In general, Banach space-valued Riemann integrable functions defined on [0, 1] (equipped with the Lebesgue measure) need not be weakly continuous almost everywhere. A Banach space is said to have the weak Lebesgue property if every Riemann integrable function taking values in it is weakly continuous almost everywhere. In this paper we discuss this property for the Banach space LX^1 of all Bochner integrable functions from [0, 1] to the Banach space X. We show that LX^1 has the weak Lebesgue property whenever X has the Radon-Nikodym property and X* is separable. This generalizes the result by Chonghu Wang and Kang Wan [Rocky Mountain J. Math., 31(2), 697-703 (2001)] that L^1[0, 1] has the weak Lebesgue property.  相似文献

We study when a Banach space with absolute norm may have polynomial numerical indices equal to one. In the real case, we show that a Banach space X with absolute norm, which has the Radon-Nikodým property or is Asplund, satisfies n(2)(X)<1 unless it is one-dimensional. In the complex case, we show that the only Banach spaces X with absolute norm and the Radon-Nikodým property which satisfy n(2)(X)=1 are the spaces . Also, the only Asplund complex space X with absolute norm which satisfies n(2)(X)=1 is c0(Λ).  相似文献

Let μ be a scalar measure of bounded variation on a compact metrizable abelian group G. Suppose that μ has the property that for any measure σ whose Fourier-Stieltjes transform vanishes at ∞, the measure μ*σ has Radon-Nikodým derivative with respect to λ, the Haar measure on G. Then L. Pigno and S. Saeki showed that μ itself has Radon-Nikodým derivative. Such property is not shared by vector measures in general. We say that a Banach space X has the near differentiability property if every X-valued measure of bounded variation shares the above property. We prove that Banach spaces with the Radon-Nikodým property have the near differentiability property, while Banach spaces with the near differentiability property enjoy the near Radon-Nikodým property. We also show that the Banach spaces L1[0,1] and have the near differentiability property. Lastly, we show that Banach spaces with the near differentiability property have type II-Λ-Radon-Nikodým property, whenever Λ is a Riesz subset of type 0 of .  相似文献

We consider submartingales and uniform amarts of maps acting between a Banach lattice and a Banach lattice or a Banach space. In this measure-free setting of martingale theory, it is known that a Banach space Y has the Radon-Nikodým property if and only if every uniformly norm bounded martingale defined on the Chaney-Schaefer l-tensor product , where E is a suitable Banach lattice, is norm convergent. We present applications of this result. Firstly, an analogues characterization for Banach lattices Y with the Radon-Nikodým property is given in terms of a suitable set of submartingales (supermartingales) on . Secondly, we derive a Riesz decomposition for uniform amarts of maps acting between a Banach lattice and a Banach space. This result is used to characterize Banach spaces with the Radon-Nikodým property in terms of uniformly norm bounded uniform amarts of maps that are norm convergent. In the case 1<p<∞, our results yield Lp(μ,Y)-space analogues of some of the well-known results on uniform amarts in L1(μ,Y)-spaces.  相似文献

Istratescu's characterization of complex strict convex (csc) Banach spaces is used to show that a modulared sum of a sequence ofcsc Banach spaces is again acsc Banach space. The equivalence of the Strong Maximum Modulus Property and complex strict convexity is used to show thatL 1(,X) iscsc whenX is (real) strictly convex and thatl 1(X n) iscsc if and only if eachX n iscsc.  相似文献

Let X be a (real or complex) Banach space and 1<p,p′<∞ such that 1/p+1/p′=1. Then , the injective tensor product of Lp[0,1] and X, has the Radon-Nikodym property (resp. the analytic Radon-Nikodym property, the near Radon-Nikodym property, contains no copy of c0, is weakly sequentially complete) if and only if X has the same property and each continuous linear operator from Lp[0,1] to X is compact.  相似文献

Abstract

Using a lifting of £ (μ, X) ([5],[6]), we construct a lifting ρ x of the seminormed vector space £ (μ, X) of measurable, essentially bounded X-valued functions. We show that in a certain sense such a lifting always exists. If μ is Lebesgue measure on (0, 1) we show that ρ x exists as map from £ ((O, 1), X) → £,((0, l), X) if and only if X is reflexive. In general the lifted function takes its values in X **. Therefore we investigate the question, when f ε £ (μ, X) is strictly liftable in the sense that the lifted function is a map with values even in X.

As an application we introduce the space £ strong (μ, L (X, Y**)), a subspace of the space of strongly measurable, essentially bounded L (X, Y, **)-valued functions, and the associated quotient space £ strong (μ, L (X,Y**)). We show that this space is a Banach space because there is a kind of a Dunford-Pettis Theorem for a subspace of L (X, £(μ Y**)). Finally we investigate the measurability property of functions in £(μ Y**)) und see that there exists a connection to the Radon-Nikodym property of the space L (X, Y).  相似文献

In this paper we study a geometric property for Banach spaces called condition (*), introduced by de Reynaet al in [3], A Banach space has this property if for any weakly null sequencex n of unit vectors inX, ifx * n is any sequence of unit vectors inX * that attain their norm at xn’s, then . We show that a Banach space satisfies condition (*) for all equivalent norms iff the space has the Schur property. We also study two related geometric conditions, one of which is useful in calculating the essential norm of an operator.  相似文献

Let X be a separable Banach space and u:XR locally upper bounded. We show that there are a Banach space Z and a holomorphic function h:XZ with u(x)<‖h(x)‖ for xX. As a consequence we find that the sheaf cohomology group Hq(X,O) vanishes if X has the bounded approximation property (i.e., X is a direct summand of a Banach space with a Schauder basis), O is the sheaf of germs of holomorphic functions on X, and q?1. As another consequence we prove that if f is a C1-smooth -closed (0,1)-form on the space X=L1[0,1] of summable functions, then there is a C1-smooth function u on X with on X.  相似文献

Let X be a Banach function space, L [0, 1] ⊂ XL1[0, 1]. It is proved that if dual space of X has singularity property in closed set E ⊂ [0, 1] then: 1) there exists no orthonormal basis in C[0, 1], which forms an unconditional basis in X in metric of L1[0, 1] space, 2) for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator M we have   相似文献

Let X be a Banach space. Let Hw*(X*) the Fréchet space whose elements are the holomorphic functions defined on X* whose restrictions to each multiple mB(X*), m = 1,2, …, of the closed unit ball B(X*) of X* are continuous for the weak-star topology. A fundamental system of norms for this space is the supremum of the absolute value of each element of Hw*(X*) in mB(X*), m = 1,2,…. In this paper we construct the bidual of l1 when this space contains no copy of l1. We also show that if X is an Asplund space, then Hw*(X*) can be represented as the projective limit of a sequence of Banach spaces that are Asplund.  相似文献

We investigate the geometry of the Banach spaces failing Schroeder-Bernstein Property (SBP). Initially we prove that every complex hereditarily indecomposable Banach space H is isomorphic to a complemented subspace of a Banach space S(H) that fails SBP in such a way that the only complemented hereditarily indecomposable subspaces of S(H) are those which are nearly isomorphic to H. Then we show that every Banach space having Mazur property is isomorphic to some complemented subspace of a Banach space which is not isomorphic to its square but isomorphic to its cube. Finally, we prove that if a Banach space X fails SBP then either it is not primary or the Grothendieck group K0(L(X)) of the algebra of operators on X is not trivial.  相似文献

We prove that every 2-summing operator from a Banach space X into an L 1-space is nuclear if and only if X is isomorphic to a Hilbert space. Then we study the class of Banach spaces X for which Π2(l 2, X) = N 1(l 2, X).  相似文献

A pair of linear bounded commuting operators T1, T2 in a Banach space is said to possess a decomposition property (DePr) if Ker (I-T1)(I-T2) = Ker (I-T1) + Ker (I-T2). A Banach space X is said to possess a 2-decomposition property (2-DePr) if every pair of linear power bounded commuting operators in X possesses the DePr. It is known from papers of M. Laczkovich and Sz. Révész that every reflexive Banach space X has the 2-DePr. In this paper we prove that every quasi-reflexive Banach space of order 1 has the 2-DePr but not all quasi-reflexive spaces of order 2. We prove that a Banach space has no 2-DePr if it contains a direct sum of two non-reflexive Banach spaces. Also we prove that if a bounded pointwise norm continuous operator group acts on X then every pair of operators belonging to it has a DePr. A list of open problems is also included. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

In this paper, we study composition operators on a Banach space of analytic functions, denoted byX, which includes the Bloch space. This space arises naturally as the dual space of analytic functions in the Bergman spaceL α 1 (D) which admit an atomic decomposition. We characterize the functions which induce compact composition operators and those which induce Fredholm operatorson this space. We also investigate when a composition operator has a closed range. LetX be a rearrangement-invariant Banach function space onR n and letV 1 X be the Sobolev space of functions whose gradient belongs toX. We give necessary and sufficient conditions onX under whichV 1 X is continuously embedded into BMO or intoL . In particular, we show thatL n, ∞ is the largest rearrangement-invariant spaceX such thatV 1 X is continuously embedded into BMO and, similarly,L n, 1 is the largest rearrangement-invariant spaceX such thatV 1 X is continuously embedded intoL . We further show thatV 1 X is a subset of VMO if and only if every function fromX has an absolutely continuous norm inL n, ∞ . A compact inclusion ofV 1 X intoC 0 is characterized as well.  相似文献
