Total and differential cross sections for the exclusive reaction pp-->pp rho observed via the pi(+)pi(-) decay channel have been measured at p(beam)=3.67 GeV/c. The observed total meson production cross section is determined to be (23.4+/-0.8+/-8) mu b and is significantly lower than typical cross sections used in model calculations for heavy-ion collisions. The differential cross sections measured indicate a strong anisotropy (approximately cos(theta(CM)(rho)) in the rho(0) meson production.  相似文献

A nonlinear equation describing curved stationary flames with arbitrary gas expansion theta = rho(fuel)/rho(burnt) is obtained in a closed form without an assumption of weak nonlinearity. The equation respects all conservation laws and takes into account vorticity production in the flame. In the scope of the asymptotic expansion for theta -->1, the new equation solves the problem of stationary flame propagation with accuracy of the sixth order in theta - 1. Its analytical solutions give the flame velocity in tubes of arbitrary width, which agrees with available results of direct numerical modeling.  相似文献

Simulations of the Lebowitz length, xiL (T, rho), are reported for the restricted primitive model hard-core (diameter a) 1:1 electrolyte for densities rho approximately < 4rho(c) and T(c) approximately < T approximately < 40T(c). Finite-size effects are elucidated for the charge fluctuations in various subdomains that serve to evaluate xiL. On extrapolation to the bulk limit for T approximately > 10T(c) the exact low-density expansions are seen to fail badly when rho > 1/10 rho(c) (with rho(c)a3 approximately = 0.08). At higher densities xiL rises above the Debye length, xiD proportional to square root(T/rho), by 10%-30% (up to rho approximately =1.3rho(c)); the variation is portrayed fairly well by the generalized Debye-Hückel theory. On approaching criticality at fixed rho or fixed T, xiL (T, rho) remains finite with xiL(c) approximately = 0.30a approximately = 1.3xiD(c) but displays a weak entropylike singularity.  相似文献

We carry out numerical simulations to study transport behavior about the jamming transition of a model granular material in two dimensions at zero temperature. Shear viscosity eta is computed as a function of particle volume density rho and applied shear stress sigma, for diffusively moving particles with a soft core interaction. We find an excellent scaling collapse of our data as a function of the scaling variable sigma/|rho(c)-rho|(Delta), where rho(c) is the critical density at sigma=0 ("point J"), and Delta is the crossover scaling critical exponent. We define a correlation length xi from velocity correlations in the driven steady state and show that it diverges at point J. Our results support the assertion that jamming is a true second-order critical phenomenon.  相似文献

We report on a new test of Lorentz invariance performed by comparing the resonance frequencies of two orthogonal cryogenic optical resonators subject to Earth's rotation over approximately 1 yr. For a possible anisotropy of the speed of light c, we obtain Delta(theta)c/c(0)=(2.6+/-1.7)x10(-15). Within the Robertson-Mansouri-Sexl (RMS) test theory, this implies an isotropy violation parameter beta-delta-1 / 2=(-2.2+/-1.5)x10(-9), about 3 times lower than the best previous result. Within the general extension of the standard model of particle physics, we extract limits on seven parameters at accuracies down to 10(-15), improving the best previous result by about 2 orders of magnitude.  相似文献

We report the first observation of e(+)e(-) annihilation into states of positive C parity, namely, rho(0)rho(0) and phirho(0). The two states are observed in the pi(+)pi(-)pi(+)pi(-) and K(+)K(-)pi(+)pi(-) final states, respectively, in a data sample of 225 fb(-1) collected by the BABAR experiment at the Positron-Electron Project II e(+)e(-) storage rings at energies near sqrt[s]=10.58 GeV. The distributions of costheta(*), where theta(*) is the center-of-mass polar angle of the phi meson or the forward rho(0) meson, suggest production by two-virtual-photon annihilation. We measure cross sections within the range |costheta(*)|<0.8 of sigma(e(+)e(-)-->rho(0)rho(0))=20.7+/-0.7(stat)+/-2.7(syst) fb and sigma(e(+)e(-)-->phirho(0))=5.7+/-0.5(stat)+/-0.8(syst) fb.  相似文献

We explore the possibility of observing the anticharmed pentaquark state from the theta(c)npi(+) decay of B mesons produced in B-factory experiments. We first show that the observed branching ratio of the B(+) to lambda(-)(c)p pi(+), as well as its open histograms, can be remarkably well explained by assuming that the decay proceeds first through the pi(+) D(0) (or D(*0)) decay, and then through the subsequent decay of the virtual D(0) or D(*0) mesons to lambda(-)(c)p. We then note that the theta(c)can be similarly produced when the virtual D(0) or D(*0) decay into an antinucleon and a theta(c). Combining the present theoretical estimates for the ratio g(DNlambda(c))/g(DNtheta(c)) approximately 13 and g(D*Ntheta(c)) approximately 1/3g(DNtheta(c)), we find that the anticharmed pentaquark theta(c), which was predicted to be bound by several model calculations, can be produced via B(+)--> theta(c)npi(+), and be observed from the B-factory experiments through the weak decay of theta(c)--> pK(+) pi(-) pi(-).  相似文献

We consider the quantum mechanics on the noncommutative plane with the generalized uncertainty relations \({\Delta } x_{1} {\Delta } x_{2} \ge \frac {\theta }{2}, {\Delta } p_{1} {\Delta } p_{2} \ge \frac {\bar {\theta }}{2}, {\Delta } x_{i} {\Delta } p_{i} \ge \frac {\hbar }{2}, {\Delta } x_{1} {\Delta } p_{2} \ge \frac {\eta }{2}\). We show that the model has two essentially different phases which is determined by \(\kappa = 1 + \frac {1}{\hbar ^{2} } (\eta ^{2} - \theta \bar {\theta })\). We construct a operator \(\hat {\pi }_{i}\) commuting with \(\hat {x}_{j} \) and discuss the harmonic oscillator model in two dimensional non-commutative space for three case κ > 0, κ = 0, κ < 0. Finally, we discuss the thermodynamics of a particle whose hamiltonian is related to the harmonic oscillator model in two dimensional non-commutative space.  相似文献

Liquid-vapor coexistence curves and critical parameters for hard-core 1:1 electrolyte models with diameter ratios lambda = sigma(-)/sigma(+) = 1 to 5.7 have been studied by fine-discretization Monte Carlo methods. Normalizing via the length scale sigma(+/-) = 1 / 2(sigma(+)+sigma(-)), relevant for the low densities in question, both T(*)(c) ( = k(B)T(c)sigma(+/-)/q(2)) and rho(*)(c) ( = rho(c)sigma(3)(+/-)) decrease rapidly (from approximately 0.05 to 0.03 and 0.08 to 0.04, respectively) as lambda increases. These trends, which unequivocally contradict current theories, are closely mirrored by results for tightly tethered dipolar dimers (with T(*)(c) lower by approximately 0%-11% and rho(*)(c) greater by 37%-12%).  相似文献

The multifractal (MF) distribution of the electrostatic potential near any conformally invariant fractal boundary, like a critical O(N) loop or a Q-state Potts cluster, is solved in two dimensions. The dimension &fcirc;(straight theta) of the boundary set with local wedge angle straight theta is &fcirc;(straight theta) = pi / straight theta-25-c / 12 (pi-straight theta)(2) / straight theta(2pi-straight theta), with c the central charge of the model. As a corollary, the dimensions D(EP) of the external perimeter and D(H) of the hull of a Potts cluster obey the duality equation (D(EP)-1) (D(H)-1) = 1 / 4. A related covariant MF spectrum is obtained for self-avoiding walks anchored at cluster boundaries.  相似文献

The 1:1 equisized hard-sphere electrolyte or restricted primitive model has been simulated via grand-canonical fine-discretization Monte Carlo. Newly devised unbiased finite-size extrapolation methods using loci in the temperature-density or (T,rho) plane of isothermal rho(2-k) vs pressure inflections, of Q identical with(2)/ maxima, and of canonical and C(V) criticality, yield estimates of (T(c),rho(c)) to +/-(0.04,3)%. Extrapolated exponents and Q ratio are (gamma,nu,Q(c)) = [1.24(3), 0.63(3); 0.624(2)], which support Ising (n = 1) behavior with (1.23(9), 0.630(3); 0.623(6)), but exclude classical, XY (n = 2), self-avoiding walk (n = 0), and n = 1 criticality with potentials varphi(r)>Phi/r(4.9) when r-->infinity.  相似文献

A spin lock comprised of radiofrequency pulses with alternating phase, (x) (-x)(x) (-x) , is proposed as a new technique to probe microsecond time-scale dynamics. A series of R1rho measurements using different pulse duration tp allows one to determine exchange rate, kex, the product p(a)p(b)(Delta omega(ab))2 involving populations of the exchanging species, p(a) and p(b), together with chemical shift difference, (Delta omega(ab)), and the strength of the spin-lock field, B1. The interpretation is based on simple analytical expression for R1rho derived on the basis of Redfield theory. The application of the method is demonstrated for partially deuterated molecule of cyclohexane undergoing chair-to-chair interconversion at -9 degrees C.  相似文献

We have observed for the first time reflection spectra of an electric quadrupole transition for the cesium atom (6 (2)S(1/2)-5 (2)D(5/2)) line at an angle of incidence from theta(c)-11.9 to theta(c)+107.5 mrad, where theta(c) is the critical angle for total reflection. From a comparison with the calculated absorption in the attenuated total reflection, the oscillator strengths for s and p polarizations were found to increase with an increase in the angle of incidence by a factor up to 1.5 at theta(c)+83.8 mrad and 2.4 at theta(c)+107.5 mrad, respectively, in the experiment. The dependences of the observed enhancement on the angle of incidence were in good agreement with the calculated ones for the oscillator strength of the quadrupole transition in the evanescent light.  相似文献

We present a novel method to derive liquid-gas coexisting densities, rho(+/-)(T), from grand canonical simulations (without knowledge of T(c) or criticality class). The minima of Q(L) identical with (2)(L)/(L) in an LxLxL box with m=rho-(L) are used to generate recursively an unbiased universal finite-size scaling function. Monte Carlo data for a hard-core square-well fluid and for the restricted primitive model electrolyte yield rho(+/-) to +/-1%-2% of rho(c) down to 1 part in 10(4)-10(3) of T(c) (and confirm well Ising character). Pressure mixing in the scaling fields is unequivocally revealed and indicates Yang-Yang ratios R(mu)=-0.04(4) and 0.2(6) for the two models, respectively.  相似文献

It is believed that a disordered one-dimensional (1D) wire with coherent electronic conduction is an insulator with the mean resistance approximately equal e(2L/xi) and resistance dispersion Delta(rho) approximately equal e(L/xi), where L is the wire length and xi is the electron localization length. Here we show that this 1D insulator undergoes at full coherence the crossover to a 1D "metal," caused by thermal smearing and resonant tunneling. As a result, Delta(rho) is smaller than unity and tends to be L/xi independent, while grows with L/xi first nearly linearly and then polynomially, manifesting the so-called medium localization.  相似文献

In this paper the non-commutative quantum mechanics (NCQM) with the generalized uncertainty relations \({\Delta } x_{1} {\Delta } x_{2} \ge \frac {\theta }{2}, {\Delta } p_{1} {\Delta } p_{2} \ge \frac {\bar {\theta }}{2}, {\Delta } x_{i} {\Delta } p_{i} \ge \frac {\hbar _{eff}}{2}\) is discussed. Four each uncertainty relation, wave functions saturating each uncertainty relation are explicitly constructed. The unitary operators relating the non-commutative position and momentum operators to the commutative position and momentum operators are also investigated. We also discuss the uncertainty relation related to the harmonic oscillator.  相似文献

We consider a spin-1/2 ladder with a ferromagnetic rung coupling J perpendicular and inequivalent chains. This model is obtained by a twist (theta) deformation of the ladder and interpolates between the isotropic ladder (theta=0) and the SU(2) ferromagnetic Kondo necklace model (theta = pi). We show that the ground state in the (theta, J perpendicular) plane has a finite string order parameter characterizing the Haldane phase. Twisting the chain introduces a new energy scale, which we interpret in terms of a Suhl-Nakamura interaction. As a consequence we observe a crossover in the scaling of the spin gap at weak coupling from delta/J parallel proportional, variant J perpendicular/J parallel for theta < theta c approximately 8 pi/9 to delta/J parallel proportional, variant (J perpendicular/J parallel)2 for theta > theta c. Those results are obtained on the basis of large scale quantum Monte Carlo calculations.  相似文献

We consider five-dimensional gauge theories where all fields propagate in the bulk and the fifth direction is compactified on the orbifold S1/Z2, and where the fifth components of the gauge bosons play the role of the standard model Higgs boson (gauge-Higgs unification). The gauge symmetry breaking is realized through the appropriate orbifold boundary conditions and through the Hosotani mechanism. We show that for any such theory (with neither brane gauge kinetic terms nor anomalous gauge-group factors) the assumption that the low-energy vector-boson spectrum consists of the W(+/-), Z, and gamma only, is inconsistent with the experimental requirements sin2thetaW approximately 1/4 and rho identical with mW2/(mZ2 cos2theta w) = 1.  相似文献

We report results on rho(770)(0)-->pi(+)pi(-) production at midrapidity in p+p and peripheral Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s(NN)]=200 GeV. This is the first direct measurement of rho(770)(0)-->pi(+)pi(-) in heavy-ion collisions. The measured rho(0) peak in the invariant mass distribution is shifted by approximately 40 MeV/c(2) in minimum bias p+p interactions and approximately 70 MeV/c(2) in peripheral Au+Au collisions. The rho(0) mass shift is dependent on transverse momentum and multiplicity. The modification of the rho(0) meson mass, width, and shape due to phase space and dynamical effects are discussed.  相似文献
