Barium ethyl(alkyl)phosphates, as new simple surfactants ((C2H5O)(RO)-PO 2 )2Ba2+ with various chain length ofR, were synthesized. The infrared spectra in the CH stretching region were measured for these surfactants in the solid state and in aqueous solution, and assignments were made. In particular, the ordering and environment of octyl chains in the different phases of the barium ethyl(octyl)phosphate-water system were studied by the Fourier-transform-infrared and Raman spectra. The CH stretching bands in the infrared spectra reflected the ordering and environment of octyl chains in each phase. The Raman band connected to the PO 2 symmetric stretching mode was sensitively shifted. This was caused by the change of aggregation structures with different Ba2+...PO 2 interaction. The infrared band arising from the PO 2 antisymmetric stretching mode was insensitive to the phase structures. The C–C stretching region in the infrared spectra was used to discuss the ordering of each phase.  相似文献

Conformations of poly(L-lysine) (PLL) and poly(L-ornithine) (PLO) were examined in aqueous solutions of sodium alkanesulfontates (CnSO3Na, n=9, 10, 11, 12) in the presence of 0.02 M NaCl by circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. These surfactants induce the-structure for PLL and the-helix for PLO. The binding of surfactants on the polypeptides was measured potentiometrically with a surfactant ion electrode and was found to be highly cooperative. The cooperativity increases with increasing chain length of surfactant. The behavior accompanying the surfactant binding and the conformational change indicated that the conformational change requires a certain amount of bound surfactants in the case of C9SO3Na and starts immediately on binding of surfactant in the case of C1 2SO3Na. The clustering of bound surfactants due to the cooperative binding as well as neutralization of polypeptides contributes to their conformational change. A slow conformational change of PLO was found in the time scale of hours, sometimes days, for C9- and C10SO3Na at low concentrations, but the binding process reached the equilibrium quickly. This slow mode might occur due to the slow interaction between surfactant/polypeptide complexes.  相似文献

Steric repulsion of polyoxyethylene groups for emulsion stability   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Rapid coalescence was studied on liquid paraffin emulsion stabilized with a series of poly(oxyethylene) dodecyl ethers [C12H25 (EO),n=1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8] and of poly(oxyethylene) nonylphenyl ethers [C9H19(EO) n ,n=2, 4, 5, 6, 12]. The turbidity of emulsion was measured as a function of the solution pHs at constant ionic strength of 0.1 mol dm–3.As a result, it was found that the emulsions (which were formed with C12H25(EO) n surfactants having less than four oxyethylene groups, or with C9H19 (EO) n surfactants having less than six oxyethylene groups) brought about rapid coalescence in the bulk pH between 2.03.5, which corresponded to the zero point of charges for the emulsions of the present systems. According to the Tadros treatment for emulsion flocculation, the total flocculation potennual was estimated as a function of the distance relative to the number of oxyethelene groups in the surfactants. The critical coalescence energy was obtained as –343 ×10–19 J for the C12H25(EO) n surfactants and –2.14×10–19) J for the C9H19 (EO) n surfactants. Furthermore, the formation of a hole for coalescence was estimated under the simple assumption that the coalescence was caused only by the energy dissipation.  相似文献

The solubilization behavior of oleyl alcohol by pure and mixtures of surfactants systems have been studied in terms of the maximum additive concentration (MAC), the solubilizing power, and the particle sizes of micelles with or without oleyl alcohol. The surfactants used are amphoteric (N,N-dimethyl-N-lauroyl lysine, DMLL; N,N,N-trimethyl-N-lauroyl lysine, TMLL; N,N-dimethyl-N-(carboxymethyl)-lauryl ammonium, DMCL), anionic (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) and nonionic (alkyl polyoxyethylene ethers).The maximum additive concentration of oleyl alcohol by pure surfactants is larger by nonionic surfactants than by others.For a nonionic surfactant system mixed with DMLL, the mixing effect of surfactant on the increase in the MAC is not recognized. While, for DMLL mixed with SDS, the MAC becomes larger than that by pure surfactants. This may be attributed to the fact that the large micellar size will result in increasing the maximum additive concentration.  相似文献

Surface tension experiments were performed on severaln-alkyldimethylaminopropanesulfonate aqueous solutions at 15°, 25°, and 35°C. The critical micellar concentrations have been obtained and the surface properties calculated. The enthalpic and entropic contributions to either micellization and adsorption processes have been discussed. The observed properties have been related to the zwitterionic character of these surfactants.  相似文献

The interaction between hydrocarbon and fluorocarbon surfactants on-alumina has been studied through the dispersion behavior of-alumina. When a low concentration of anionic hydrocarbon or fluorocarbon surfactant as a first additive is added to positively charged alumina, the alumina flocculates. The flocculated alumina redisperses upon addition of different surfactant from the first one by the manner that the hydrophobic parts of hydrocarbon and fluorocarbon surfactants are in contact with hydrophobic parts of the first surfactants and the hydrophilic polar groups direct out to liquid phase, resulting in the formation of mixed bilayers on the alumina. From the measurements of mean particle size, zeta potential of the alumina, and adsorbed amount of surfactants, the mixed bilayers consisting of anionic fluorocarbon-noniomc hydrocarbon surfactants and of anionic fluorocarbon-noioic hydrocarbon ones are found to be formed more preferentially than anionic hydrocarbon-anioic fluorocarbon surfactants. The property of the mixed bilayer on the alumina is also discussed using the fluorescence spectra of pyrene.  相似文献

The interaction between the anionic and cationic surfactants with Melittin spread monolayers at the air-water interface was investigated. The addition of anionic Cl, under the films of Melittin gives rise to a change in both surface pressure and surface potential. The interference image of cold-dried transparent gelatin films containing different surfactants was determined in the conoscopic ray of monochromatic light. From the results obtained the order of the structure of gelatin in the film was characterized. Unlike the ionic surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate and hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide), which lead to a reduction of the ordered structure, the addition of nonionic and amphoteric surfactants [ethoxylized octylphenole and a technical C12/C14-dipoly(oxyethylene)ammoniopropane sulfonate] causes an increase of the ordered structure of gelatin. The results quantitatively agree with those found for the influence of surfactants on the secondary structure of gelatin in diluted gelatin solutions. The influence is independent of the gelatin/surfactant ratio and has been explained by gelatin/gelatin interaction competing with the gelatin/surfactant interaction if the gelatin concentration becomes sufficiently high.  相似文献

The aim of this research was to prepare a monodisperse polystyrene latex without surfactants adsorbed at the particle surface. Conventional polymerization formulations usually lead to large amounts of oligomers. Furthermore, they are characterized by a low reproducibility with respect to particle size. This was overcome by using a seed latex that was crosslinked in order to overcome dissolution in the monomer phase. By adjusting the seed concentration, any desired particle size in the range 0.5–1.2 m could be obtained. The monodispersity was very good.  相似文献

Brillouin scattering experiments have been performed on very dilute solutions of bovine serum albumin (BSA) in pH=4.7,I=0.1 M NaCl; insulin in pH=7.5,I = 0.1 M NaCl and polystyrene latex suspensions in aqueous medium at room temperatureT = 201 °C. The samples were first characterized by quasi-elastic light scattering (QELS) to determine the translational diffusion coefficient (D T), hydrodynamic radius (R H), and polydispersity of each of the samples at normal pressure. Subsequently, the samples were subjected to Brillouin scattering studies where the spectrum of the scattered light was analyzed by using a piezo-electric scannend five-pass Fabry-Perot interferometer. The hydrostatic pressure (P) acting on the samples was varied in the range from 1B to 825 B in steps of 100 B each. The pressure dependence of the measured sound velocityV s (P) could be least square fitted tov s (P)=A0 +A 1 P +A 2 P 2 with experimental error (± 1 %). This data has been interpreted consistent with an earlier work within the framework of modified Tait's equation of state and presumption of linear pressure dependence of the adiabatic bulk modulus in the moderate pressure regime.  相似文献

Three series of segmented polyurethanes based on MDI, variable chain extender, and polypropylene oxide of MW=1000, 2000, and 3000 were synthesized and their dielectric behavior examined.Dielectric relaxations in the segmented polyurethanes were investigated between –150°C and +150°C in the 100 Hz to 10 kHz range. In general, three transitions, designated as, , and were observed, and ascribed in accordance with calorimetric relaxations to glass transitions of the hard and soft segments, and Shatzki-type motions, respectively. The effect of structure variables such as soft segment size, type of chain extender (ethylene glycol, butane diol, and hexane diol) and soft segment concentration, as well as the effect of interaction of the phases on dielectric properties was discussed. It was found that a certain degree of phase mixing exists in all series, detected by the variation of theT g of the soft segment with soft segment concentration, contrary to DSC results, which was ascribed to thermal treatment prior to the dielectric measurements. It appears that interfacial polarization becomes important only above the transition temperature.  相似文献

Aqueous latex was flocculated by mixtures of poly(diallyldimethyl ammonium chloride), PDADMAC, and anionic surfactants. Sodium dodecyl sulfate, (SDS), and Aerosol OT influenced flocculation whereas nonionic Tergitol NP-10 did not. The flocculation domains were correlated with properties of the polymer-surfactant complexFlocculation was never observed above the CMC of the corresponding surfactant solution without polymer or latex. At SDS concentrations greater than 10–3.6 M the flocculation boundary corresponded to the first appearance of insoluble polymer-surfactant complex which was characterized by dynamic light scattering and microelectrophoresis. Under these conditions latex (diameter 570 nm) and dispersed polymer-surfactant complex particles (diameters between 30 and 2 000 nm) displayed simultaneous homo and heteroflocculation. The boundaries of the flocculation domains at low surfactant concentration were determined by the ratio of polymer to latex and by the net electrostatic charge of the soluble polymer-surfactant complex. On the other hand, the mechanisms controlling flocculation boundaries in the dispersed polymer-surfactant domain require further clarification.  相似文献

An isotactic polypropylene film was stretched at 120 °C in poly(ethylene glycol) and thermally shrunk at various temperatures. Proton spin-lattice,T 1, and spin-spin,T 2, relaxation times were measured using a broad line pulse spectrometer operating at 19.8 MHz in the temperature range 40 °C–100 °C. The temperature ofT 1 minimum shifts to higher temperatures and the value ofT 1 minimum increases in magnitude as the stretching ratio is increased. In contrast the temperature ofT 1 minimum shifts to lower temperatures as shrinkage is increased, whereas the value ofT 1 minimum increases in magnitude because of the increase in crystallimty during shrinkage. T2a, the longestT 1 associated with the mobile amorphous regions, increases during shrinkage, indicating that chain mobility in the amorphous regions increases substantially during shrinkage. A Langmuir trough for studying monolayers on a mercury surface was constructed usingT. Smith's design. The surfactant (long-chain alkyl-trimethylammonium compounds) in aqueous solution were spread on a clean mercury surface in an atmosphere of helium, and the surface pressure re-areaA and thickness of surface filmd-areaA curves were obtained. The-A curves were characterized by the appearance of multiple inflection points and plateaus, being explained as stepwise dense surface packing of molecules, and the formation of multilayers by film compression with long axes of molecules lying flat on the mercury surface.  相似文献

Precipitation of perfluorocarboxylic acids (n-C3H7OOH, n-C7H15COOH, and n-C9F19COOH) in aqueous solutions of different metal nitrates (K+, Ag+, Ca2+, Ba2+, Zn2+, Al3+, La3+) was studied by solubility and calorimetric measurements. The free energy of precipitation per single surfactant chain was found to depend on the chain length but not on the charge of the reacting cation. It was shown that the precipitation of perfluorocarboxylates of multivalent cations was governed by positive entropy change and a low enthalpic contribution, whereas the soaps of monovalent cations exhibited the opposite behavior. The entropy of precipitation was not affected by the chain length of the surfactants in the presence of monovalent cations, but it increased for cations of higher charge.Supported by the NSF Grant CHE-8619509.This paper is dedicated to Professor Armin Weiss on the occasion of his 60th birthday. The desorption rate of surfactant ions from nylon particles was investigated at the concentrations below the critical micelle concentration by applying the stopped-flow method. A mixing cell of stopped-flow spectrophotometer was modified with platinum electrodes for electric conductivity detection. The change in electric conductivity with time in the desorption process was monitored by a memory-recorder system. The surfactants used were sodium decyl, sodium dodecyl, sodium tetradecyl, and sodium hexadecyl sulfates. The desorption rate was independent of the surfactant concentration and the rate constants were obtained by applying the first-order reaction scheme. The adsorption rate constants were estimated from the experimental desorption rate constants and equilibrium constants assuming the second-order kinetics. The desorption rate constants were determined to be 1–6 sec–1 and the adsorption rate constants to be 2–8×104 mol–1 dm3 sec–1; the former decreased and the latter increased with increasing number of carbon atoms in alkyl chain of the surfactants.  相似文献

The effects of particle size on polyacrylamide (PAAm,M w =59×104, 500×104) adsorption were investigated using a series of well-characterized hematite (-Fe2O3) dispersions. The -Fe2O3 particles with highly monodisperse and nearly spherical shape ranged in radius from 23 nm to 300 nm. the maximum amount of PAAm adsorption (M m ) in each system, showed a steady increase with decreasing particle radius and was influenced strongly by particle concentrations in the medium. Furthermore, it was realized that the diameter of -Fe2O3 particles after treatment with PAAm under different particle concentrations decreased with increasing particle concentration. The relation between particle concentration in the medium and particle size after treatment was also influenced by the medium pH, i.e., at the medium pH close to the isoelectric point of -Fe2O3 particles (pHo=9.2), the particle size after treatment increased with increasing particle concentration. All these results suggest that in the system of ultra-fine particles, the mixing process between particle-particle and polymerparticle will play an important role on the conformation of adsorbed polymer layer.  相似文献

Interactions of the mixed surfactant solution of dodecylamido propyl dimethyl aminoacetate and sodium dodecyl sulfate with the liposomal membrane were studied. Lytic activities of the surfactants were measured as a function of the concentrations of surfactant and phospholipid and the composition of mixed surfactants. The solubilization limits of phospholipid by surfactants were determined from the change of their aggregation behavior in suspensions at equilibrium by means of quasi-elastic light scattering. The mixed surfactant solutions showed lower lytic activity than single component surfactant solution in spite of the strong adsorption onto the liposome surface. This was attributed to low solubilization power of binary mixture for phospholipid.  相似文献

It was shown that, in the case of adsorbing ions, the Boltzmann equation cannot be applied in its classical form, but has to be modified by considering the flux of adsorbing ions. From the comparison with the adsorption of nonionic surfactants a ratio results which is the measure of deceleration of adsorption kinetics due to the electric double layerr=K(y s)/(t). The stress relaxation and creep behavior of unfilled high density polyethylene (HDPE) and HDPE filled with untreated and surface-treated glass spheres were measured at room temperature. A silane-based coupling agent capable of providing a covalent bond between HDPE and the glass spheres was used for the surface-treatment. Two different amounts of the coupling agent were employed giving silane layers on the fillers with different thicknesses. The effect of ageing time at room temperature on the viscoelastic properties after quenching from 100 °C to room temperature in ice water was also investigated. The effects of the surface treatment of the fillers and the ageing time was characterized by means of the internal stress ( i ) concept. The i -value increased with the degree of interaction of the filler/matrix interface and the ageing time. It was here not possible to superimpose the different flow curves with regard to the ageing time with sufficient accuracy. This is due to the variation of i with ageing time. The surface-treatment of the filler had a marked effect on the creep behavior at high applied stress levels and on the ageing behavior of the composites, presumably due to the formation of an interphase region close to the filler surface with different properties and different ageing characteristics than that of the bulk of the matrix.  相似文献
