By making use of the path integral duality transformation, we derive the string representation for the partition function of an extended Dual Abelian Higgs Model containing gauge fields of external currents of electrically charged particles. By the same method, we obtain the corresponding representations for the generating functionals of gauge field and monopole current correlators. In the case of bilocal correlators, the obtained results are found to be in agreement with the dual Meissner scenario of confinement and the Stochastic Model of the QCD vacuum. Higgs boson production at the LHC within the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension is reviewed. The predictions for decay rates and production cross sections are updated by choosing the present value of the top quark mass and recent parton density sets. Moreover, all relevant higher order corrections, some of which have been obtained only recently, are included in a consistent way.  相似文献

A ø - ø superconducting field theory for the soliton pairing mechanism ie studied. Using the variational method the dynamics of fields shows that the mechanism is understood in terms of the dual coupling: vortex field and string field. Important experimental implications are discussed.  相似文献

It is shown that a previously found instability for the SU(2) Yang-Mills field equation can be removed by a (1 + 1) dimensional Higgs mechanism. The SU(2) results are generalized to SU(N), with special emphasis on SU(3).  相似文献

The low-energy dynamics of the vortices of the Abelian Chern–Simons–Higgs system is investigated from the adiabatic approach. The difficulties involved in treating the field evolution as motion on the vortex moduli space in this system are shown. Another two generalized Abelian Higgs systems are discussed with respect to their vortex dynamics at the adiabatic limit. The method works well, and we find bound states in the first model and scattering at right angles in the second system. Charged vortex solutions are found iri a (2+1)-dimensional Abelian Higgs model with Chern- Simons term at finite temperature. It is shown that there exists a finite critical temperature at which vortices disappear and it implies that the system changes fiom superconducting state to normal state at this critical temperature.  相似文献

In calculations of the elementary scalar spectra of spontaneously broken gauge theories there are a number of subtleties which, though it is often unnecessary to deal with them in the order-of-magnitude type of calculations, have to be taken into account if fully consistent results are sought for. Within the “canonical” effective-potential approach these are, for instance: the need to handle infinite series of nested commutators of derivatives of field-dependent mass matrices, the need to cope with spurious IR divergences emerging in the consistent leading-order approximation and, in particular, the need to account for the fine interplay between the renormalization effects in the one- and two-point Green functions which, indeed, is essential for the proper stable vacuum identification and, thus, for the correct interpretation of the results. In this note we illustrate some of these issues in the realm of the minimal Abelian Higgs model and two of its simplest extensions including extra heavy scalars in the spectrum in attempt to exemplify the key aspects of the usual “hierarchy problem” lore in a very specific and simple setting. We emphasize that, regardless of the omnipresent polynomial cut-off dependence in the one-loop corrections to the scalar two-point function, the physical Higgs boson mass is always governed by the associated symmetry-breaking VEV and, as such, it is generally as UV-robust as all other VEV-driven masses in the theory.  相似文献

We measure the expectation values of the Wilson loops for the radially active Abelian Higgs Model in three dimensions with Higgs chargeq=1 andq=2. We observe a drastic fall-off of the area term as we pass to the Higgs phase, as well as a peak of the perimetric term at the phase transition. Implications of our results for other Higgs models are also discussed.  相似文献

We generate and identify multi-vortices of the 2D Abelian Higgs model on a finite lattice by relaxation of Monte Carlo equilibrium configurations. The lattice vortices have action and a uniquely defined topological charge corresponding to the continuum ones. They exhibit the expected exponential decay behaviour and satisfy approximately the classical equations of motion. Vortex-antivortex superpositions are seen as well, supporting the dilute gas picture. Single vortices finally relax into “dislocations” and disappear. A background charge construction turns out nearly insensitive with respect to dislocations.  相似文献

In this work there are proposed several new 6D brane worlds based on exact topological solutions to the vortex equations for the Abelian Higgs model, with suitable boundary conditions and symmetry breaking potentials similar to the mexican hat. Just as happens for RS domain wall brane worlds, it is shown that the massless mode of linearized gravity is localized in the neighborhood of the string–vortex solution while there are not massive bounded states. The correction to the newtonian limit of the effective 4D gravity is calculated.  相似文献

The Hamiltonian and BRST formulations of an Abelian Higgs model involvingthe electromagnetic vector gauge field are investigated in one-space, one-timedimension in the broken symmetry phase, where the phase (x, t) of the complexmatter field (x, t) carries the charge degree of freedom of the complex matterfield and is, in fact, akin to the Goldstone boson.  相似文献

Taking as a starting point a Lorentz non-invariant abelian Higgs model defined in 1 + 3 dimensions, we carry out its dimensional reduction to D = 1 + 2, obtaining a new planar model composed by a Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Proca gauge sector, a massive scalar sector, and a mixing term (involving the fixed background ) that imposes the Lorentz violation to the reduced model. The propagators of the scalar and massive gauge field are evaluated and the corresponding dispersion relations determined. Based on the poles of the propagators, a causality and unitarity analysis is carried out at tree level. We then show that the model is totally causal, stable and unitary.Received: 2 July 2004, Revised: 21 September 2004, Published online: 1 December 2004  相似文献
