The contribution of the QCD pomeron to the process is discussed. We focus on the photon-photon collision, with the quasi-real photon coming from the Weizs?cker-Williams spectrum of the nuclei. We calculate the cross section for this process considering the solution of the LLA BFKL equation at zero momentum transfer using a small t approximation for the differential cross section of the subprocess. Furthermore, the impa ct of non-leading corrections to the BFKL equation is also analyzed. In both cases the cross section is found to increase with the energy, predicting considerable values for the LHC energies. Moreover, we compare our results with the Born two-gluon approximation, which is energy independent at the photon level. Our results indicate that the experimental analyses of this process can be useful to discriminate the QCD dynamics at high energies. Total and differential cross sections for high energy and small momentum transfer elastic hadron-hadron scattering are studied in QCD using a functional integral approach. The hadronic amplitudes are governed by vacuum expectation values of lightlike Wegner-Wilson loops, for which a matrix cumulant expansion is derived. The cumulants are evaluated within the framework of the Minkowskian version of the model of the stochastic vacuum. Using the second cumulant, we calculate elastic differential cross sections for hadron-hadron scattering. The agreement with experimental data is good. We calculate the contributions of the axial current to top quark pair production in annihilation at threshold. The QCD dynamics is taken into account by solving the Lippmann-Schwinger equation for the P wave production using the QCD potential up to two loops. We demonstrate that the dependence of the total and differential cross section on the polarization of the and beams allows for an independent extraction of the axial current induced cross section. We study the double-diffractive production of various heavy systems (e.g. Higgs, dijet, and SUSY particles) at LHC and Tevatron collider energies. In each case we compute the probability that the rapidity gaps, which occur on either side of the produced system, survive the effects of soft rescattering and QCD bremsstrahlung effects. We calculate both the luminosity for different production mechanisms, and a wide variety of subprocess cross sections. The results allow numerical predictions to be readily made for the cross sections of all these processes at the LHC and the Tevatron collider. For example, we predict that the cross section for the exclusive double-diffractive production of a 120 GeV Higgs boson at the LHC is about 3 fb, and that the QCD background in the decay mode is about 4 times smaller than the Higgs signal if the experimental missing-mass resolution is 1 GeV. For completeness we also discuss production via or WW fusion. Received: 7 November 2001 / Revised version: 11 December 2001 / Published online: 25 January 2002  相似文献

We calculate the differential cross sections for proton elastic scattering on the exotic halo nuclei 6He and 8He at energies around ~0.7 GeV at the momentum transfers squared up to 0.30 (GeV/c)2 and investigate the influence of the nucleon centre-of-mass correlations on the calculated cross sections. In particular, we show that the approximate account of the centre-of-mass correlations used previously considerably overestimates the cross sections at high values of the momentum transfer.  相似文献

We calculate the nucleon and nuclear photoproduction cross sections for heavy quarks within the -factorization formalism, considering the current high energy approaches which include nuclear and saturation effects. Our results demonstrate that a future experimental analysis of this process would allow one to constrain the QCD dynamics at high energies.Received: 10 July 2003, Revised: 8 October 2003, Published online: 8 December 2003  相似文献

We perform the precision calculations for the e+e-→q_q_(q_q_=u_u_, c_c_, d_d_,s_s_) processes up to the QCD next-to-leading order (NLO) including full weak decays for the final T-odd mirror quarks in the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT) at the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC). We show the dependence of the leading order (LO) and NLO QCD corrected cross sections on the colliding energy √s, and provide the LO and QCD NLO kinematic distributions of final particles. The results show that the LO cross section can be enhanced by the NLO QCD correction and the K-factor increases obviously when the threshold of the on-shell q_q_-pair production approaches the colliding energy √s. The K-factor value varies in the range of 1.04 ~ 1.41 in our chosen parameter space. We find that a simple approximation of multiplying the LO kinematic distribution with the integrated K-factor is not appropriate for precision study of the e+e-→q_q_(q_q_=u_u_, c_c_, d_d_,s_s_) processes, since the NLO QCD corrections are phase space dependent. It is necessary to calculate the differential cross sections including full NLO QCD corrections to get reliable results.  相似文献

The electroproduction of and mesons is studied in elastic, quasi-elastic and inclusive reactions for four momentum transfers and photon-proton centre of mass energies GeV. The data were taken with the H1 detector at the electron proton collider HERA in the years 1995 to 1997. The total virtual photon-proton cross section for elastic production is measured as a function of and W. The dependence of the production rates on the square of the momentum transfer from the proton (t) is extracted. Decay angular distributions are analysed and the ratio of the longitudinal and transverse cross sections is derived. The ratio of the cross sections for quasi-elastic and meson production is measured as a function of . The results are discussed in terms of theoretical models based upon perturbative QCD. Differential cross sections for inclusive and inelastic production of mesons are determined and predictions within two theoretical frameworks are compared with the data, the non-relativistic QCD factorization approach including colour octet and colour singlet contributions, and the model of Soft Colour Interactions. We calculate the photonuclear production of heavy quarks in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions. The integrated cross section and the rapidity distribution are computed employing sound high energy QCD formalisms like the collinear and semihard approaches as well as the saturation model. In particular, the color glass condensate (CGC) formalism is also considered using a simple phenomenological parameterization for the color field correlator in the medium, which allows us to obtain more reliable estimates for charm and bottom production at LHC energies.Received: 11 August 2003, Revised: 3 September 2003, Published online: 10 October 2003  相似文献

We propose QCD inspired model to calculate ^-pp and pp elastic scatterings at high energies in this paper. A calculation for total cross section of ^-pp and pp is performed in which the contributions from gluon-gluon, quark-quark, and gluon-quark interactions are included. Our results show that the QCD inspired model gives a perfect fit to experimental data of total cross section both for ^-pp and pp elastic scatterings at the whole energy region where experimental data existed at FNAL and CERN.  相似文献

We calculate the nuclear inclusive and diffractive cross sections for heavy quark photoproduction within a phenomenological saturation approach. The nuclear cross section is obtained by the extension of the saturation model through the Glauber-Gribov formalism. The cross section for dijet photoproduction at high transverse energies is presented as a function of the transverse energies and the pseudorapidities of the jets. The measurement is performed using a sample of ep-interactions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.3 pb, recorded by the ZEUS detector. Jets are defined by applying a -clustering algorithm to the hadrons observed in the final state. The measured cross sections are compared to next-to-leading order QCD calculations. In a kinematic regime where theoretical uncertainties are expected to be small, the measured cross sections are higher than these calculations. Dijet cross sections in neutral current deep inelastic ep scattering have been measured in the range with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 38.4 pb. The cross sections, measured in the Breit frame using the jet algorithm, are compared with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations using proton parton distribution functions. The uncertainties of the QCD calculations have been studied. The predictions are in reasonable agreement with the measured cross sections over the entire kinematic range. In this paper we construct a model that satisfies the theoretical requisites of high energy soft interactions, based on two ingredients: (i) the results of N=4 SYM, which at present is a unique theory that allows one to deal with a large coupling constant; and (ii) the requirement of matching with high energy QCD. In accordance with these ideas, we assume that the soft Pomeron intercept is relatively large, and the slope of the Pomeron trajectory is equal to zero. We derive analytical formulae that sum both enhanced and semi-enhanced diagrams for elastic and diffractive amplitudes. We fit the available experimental data, and predict the value for cross sections at the energies accessible at the LHC and beyond. The main corrections to the model are studied and evaluated.  相似文献

In this paper we develop an approach to soft scattering processes at high energies which is based on two elements: the Good–Walker mechanism for low mass diffraction and multi-pomeron interactions for high mass diffraction. The principal idea, which allows us to specify the theory for pomeron interactions, is that the so called soft processes occur at rather short distances (r 2 1/〈p t 2 α≈0.01 GeV−2), where perturbative QCD is valid. The value of the pomeron slope α is obtained from a fit to the experimental data. Using this theoretical approach, we suggest a model that fits all soft data in the ISR-Tevatron energy range: total, elastic, single and double diffractive cross sections, as well as the t dependence of the differential elastic cross section, and the mass dependence of single diffraction. In this model we calculate the survival probability of diffractive Higgs production, and we obtain a value for this observable that is smaller than 1% at the LHC energy range.  相似文献

The angular distribution of neutrons emitted by elastic, inelastic and fission processes on235U were measured at the incident neutron energies of 1.5, 1.9, 2.3, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 and 5.5 MeV using nanosecond time-of-flight technique. The differential elastic scattering cross sections and their angular distributions at all the seven energies are presented. The total elastic scattering cross sections, angle and energy integrated cross sections for the inelastically scattered neutrons in energy bands of 200 keV, fission cross sections and the angular distributions of fission neutrons were extracted at 1.5, 1.9 and 2.3 MeV incident neutron energies. The energy distributions of the prompt fission neutrons and of the inelastically scattered neutrons are given at the incoming neutron energies of 1.5, 1.9 and 2.3 MeV; and the average fission neutron energies and the inelastic neutron evaporation temperatures were also evaluated at these energies.  相似文献

We explore the relationship between exclusive and inclusive electromagnetic scattering from the pion, focusing on the transition region at intermediate Q2. Combining Drell-Yan data on the leading twist quark distribution in the pion with a model for the resonance region at large x, we calculate QCD moments of the pion structure function over a range of Q2, and quantify the role of higher twist corrections. Using a parameterization of the pion elastic form factor and phenomenological models for the π↦ρ transition form factor, we further test the extent to which local duality may be valid for the pion. The method of relativistic optical potential is applied to studying elastic scattering of electrons by europium and ytterbium atoms in a wide range of collision energies up to 2 keV. The angular dependences of the scattering differential cross sections and the energy dependences of the scattering integral (total, elastic, momentum transfer, and viscosity) cross sections are calculated in both spin-polarized and spin-unpolarized approximations. It is shown that the spin-polarized approximation should be used to calculate the scattering cross sections at energies below 10 eV for a europium atom. The low-energy scattering of an electron by a europium atom is characterized by P-, D-, and F-wave shape resonances. For an ytterbium atom, the calculated cross sections are in good agreement with available experimental data and with those obtained by calculation in terms of the relativistic convergent close-coupling method.  相似文献

Based on our previous study of the QCD inspired eikonalized model for describing vector meson photoproduction, pp, and p ˉp elastic scattering at high energies, we apply the mode to high energy K±p elastic scattering. The total cross section σtot(s), differential cross section dσ/dt, the ratio of the real part to imaginary part of the forward scattering amplitude ρ(s), and nuclear slope parameter function β(s) are calculated in the model. Our results show that the theoretical prediction for σtot(s) is in a good agreement with the experimental data within error bars of the data. For the other theoretical predictions there are no data to test the predictive power of the model. We need the corresponding experimental data to examinate the validity of our QCD inspired eikonalized model. However, our calculations clearly show that the Odderon exchange in the process makes a significant contribution to the observable of ρ(s) and β(s). Therefore, we may conclude that there is a good opportunity to find the QCD Odderon in the K±p elastic scattering at high energies.  相似文献
