The statistical behaviour of turbulent kinetic energy transport in turbulent premixed flames is analysed using data from three-dimensional Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) of freely propagating turbulent premixed flames under decaying turbulence. For flames within the corrugated flamelets regime, it is observed that turbulent kinetic energy is generated within the flame brush. By contrast, for flames within the thin reaction zones regime it has been found that the turbulent kinetic energy decays monotonically through the flame brush. Similar trends are observed also for the dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy. Within the corrugated flamelets regime, it is demonstrated that the effects of the mean pressure gradient and pressure dilatation within the flame are sufficient to overcome the effects of viscous dissipation and are responsible for the observed augmentation of turbulent kinetic energy in the flame brush. In the thin reaction zones regime, the effects of the mean pressure gradient and pressure dilatation terms are relatively much weaker than those of viscous dissipation, resulting in a monotonic decay of turbulent kinetic energy across the flame brush. The modelling of the various unclosed terms of the turbulent kinetic energy transport equation has been analysed in detail. The predictions of existing models are compared with corresponding quantities extracted from DNS data. Based on this a-priori DNS assessment, either appropriate models are identified or new models are proposed where necessary. It is shown that the turbulent flux of turbulent kinetic energy exhibits counter-gradient (gradient) transport wherever the turbulent scalar flux is counter-gradient (gradient) in nature. A new model has been proposed for the turbulent flux of turbulent kinetic energy, and is found to capture the qualitative and quantitative behaviour obtained from DNS data for both the corrugated flamelets and thin reaction zones regimes without the need to adjust any of the model constants.  相似文献

A new modeling strategy is developed to introduce tabulated chemistry methods in the LES of turbulent premixed combustion. The objective is to recover the correct laminar flame propagation speed of the filtered flame front when the subgrid scale turbulence vanishes. The filtered flame structure is mapped by 1D filtered laminar premixed flames. Closure of the filtered progress variable and the energy balance equations are carefully addressed. The methodology is applied to 1D and 2D filtered laminar flames. These computations show the capability of the model to recover the laminar flame speed and the correct chemical structure when the flame wrinkling is completely resolved. The model is then extended to turbulent combustion regimes by introducing subgrid scale wrinkling effects on the flame front propagation. Finite Rate Chemistry Effects in Highly Sheared Turbulent Premixed Flames   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Detailed scalar structure measurements of highly sheared turbulent premixed flames stabilized on the piloted premixed jet burner (PPJB) are reported together with corresponding numerical calculations using a particle based probability density function (PDF) method. The PPJB is capable of stabilizing highly turbulent premixed jet flames through the use of a small stoichiometric pilot that ensures initial ignition of the jet and a large shielding coflow of hot combustion products. Four lean premixed methane-air flames with a constant jet equivalence ratio are studied over a wide range of jet velocities. The scalar structure of the flames are examined through high resolution imaging of temperature and OH mole fraction, whilst the reaction rate structure is examined using simultaneous imaging of temperature and mole fractions of OH and CH2O. Measurements of temperature and mole fractions of CO and OH using the Raman–Rayleigh–LIF-crossed plane OH technique are used to examine the flame thickening and flame reaction rates. It is found that as the shear rates increase, finite-rate chemistry effects manifest through a gradual decrease in reactedness, rather than the abrupt localized extinction observed in non-premixed flames when approaching blow-off. This gradual decrease in reactedness is accompanied by a broadening in the reaction zone which is consistent with the view that turbulence structures become embedded within the instantaneous flame front. Numerical predictions using a particle-based PDF model are shown to be able to predict the measured flames with significant finite-rate chemistry effects, albeit with the use of a modified mixing frequency.  相似文献

In the present study, Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) simulations are applied to a series of turbulent V-shaped flames. Two formulations of Conditional Source-term Estimation (CSE) are developed using singly and doubly conditioned averages for turbulent premixed and partially premixed flames, respectively. Detailed chemistry is included. Conditionally averaged chemical source terms are closed by conditional averaged scalars which are obtained by inverting an integral equation. The objectives are to study a turbulent premixed V-shaped flame using the premixed CSE approach and apply the Doubly Conditional CSE (DCSE) combustion model to a case of stratified combustion. The partially premixed implementation involves double conditioning on two variables, mixture fraction and progress variable. The present study represents the first application of DCSE for a series of turbulent stratified flames. First, CSE is analysed for fully premixed conditions. A sensitivity analysis on the number of CSE ensembles and different scalar dissipation model closures is performed. Good results are obtained in terms of velocity and progress variable profiles. Finally, the partially premixed formulation is applied to the stratified case at three different conditions, corresponding to two different turbulence grids and three different profiles of the equivalence ratio, providing promising results.  相似文献

Measurements of mean velocity components, turbulent intensity, and Reynolds shear stress are presented in a turbulent lifted H2/N2 jet flame as well as non-reacting air jet issuing into a vitiated co-flow by laser doppler velocimetry (LDV) technique. The objectives of this paper are to obtain a velocity data base missing in the previous experiment data of the Dibble burner and so provide initial and flow field data for evaluating the validity of various numerical codes describing the turbulent partially premixed flames on this burner. It is found that the potential core is shortened due to the high ratio of jet density to co-flow density in the non-reacting cases. However, the existence of flame suppressed turbulence in the upstream region of the jet dominates the length of potential core in the reacting cases. At the centreline, the normalized axial velocities in the reacting cases are higher than the non-reacting cases, and the relative turbulent intensities of the reacting flow are smaller than in the non-reacting flow, where a self-preserving behaviour for the relative turbulent intensities exists at the downstream region. The profiles of mean axial velocity in the lifted flame distribute between the non-reacting jet and non-premixed flame both in the axial and radial distributions. The radial distributions of turbulent kinetic energy in the lifted flames exhibit a change in distributions indicating the difference of stabilisation mechanisms of the two lifted flame. The experimental results presented will guide the development of an improved modelling for such flames.  相似文献

The flame curvature statistics of turbulent premixed Bunsen flames have been analysed in this paper using a Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) database of turbulent Bunsen flames at ambient and elevated pressures. In order to be able to perform a large parametric study in terms of pressure, heat release parameter, turbulence conditions and nozzle diameter, a single step Arrhenius type irreversible chemistry has been used for the purpose of computational economy, where thermo-chemical parameters are adjusted to match the behavior of stoichiometric methane-air flames. This analysis focuses on the characterization of the local flame geometry in response to turbulence and hydro-dynamic instability. The shape of the flame front is found to be consistent with existing experimental data. Although the Darrieus Landau instability promotes cusp formation, a qualitatively similar flame morphology can be observed for hydro-dynamically stable flames. A criterion has been suggested for the curvature PDF to become negatively skewed.  相似文献

Large Eddy Simulations of an unconfined turbulent lean premixed flame, which is stabilised behind a bluff body, are conducted using unstrained flamelets as the sub-grid scale combustion closure. The statistics from the simulations are compared with the corresponding data obtained from the experiment and it is demonstrated that the experimental observations are well captured. The relative positioning of the shear layers and the flame brush are analysed to understand the radial variations of the turbulent kinetic energy at various streamwise locations. These results are also compared to confined bluff body stabilised flames, to shed light on the relative role of incoming and shear driven turbulence on the behaviour of the flame brush and the turbulent kinetic energy variation across it.  相似文献

Simultaneous high repetition-rate, two-point hydroxyl (OH) time-series measurements with associated PLIF/PIV measurements are employed to investigate spatio–temporal scales and flame-velocity interactions in turbulent opposed jets sustaining methane-air double flames. For a fuel-side equivalence ratio, ϕ B  = 1.2, a rich premixed flame exists on the fuel side while a diffusion flame exists on the air side of the stagnation plane. The bulk Reynolds number (Re) and strain rate (SR) can be adjusted to generate flames at ϕ B  = 1.2 with both well separated and completely merged flame fronts. Simultaneous PLIF/PIV measurements highlight distinct spatial OH structures of the premixed and diffusive fronts corresponding to variations in the flow field. The self-propagating tendency of the rich premixed front causes large-scale wrinkling, thereby enhancing the OH contour length by 15% as compared to the diffusive front. Two-point OH time-series measurements are implemented to quantify both spatial and temporal fluctuations via study of radial length and time scales. In general, these integral length and time scales follow similar trends and reach a minimum at the axial location of peak [OH]. In comparison to merged double flames having higher Re and SR, greater OH fluctuations are observed in the rich-premixed front as compared to the diffusive front for a well separated double flame. Because of the developing turbulence, the OH length scales exhibit reduced axial gradients across the reaction zone for higher Re in comparison to lower Re. A stochastic time-series simulation, using a state relationship based on a joint mixture fraction and progress variable, is utilized to extract estimated scalar time scales from those of measured OH. The simulations indicate that the hydroxyl fluctuations in double flames are only twice those of the underlying conserved scalar. “Turbulent Opposed-Jet Double Flames” is submitted for consideration as a full length article to Flow Turbulence and Combustion.  相似文献

Large-eddy simulations (LES) combined with the transported probability density function (PDF) method are carried out for two turbulent piloted premixed methane-air jet flames (flame F1 and flame F3) to assess the capability of LES/PDF for turbulent premixed combustion. The conventionally used model for the sub-filter scale mixing time-scale (or the mixing frequency) fails to capture the premixed flames correctly. This failure is expected to be caused by the lack of the sub-filter scale premixed flame propagation property in the sub-filter scale mixing process when the local flame front is under-resolved. It leads to slower turbulent premixed flame propagation and wider flame front. A new model for specifying the sub-filter scale mixing frequency is developed to account for the effect of sub-filter scale chemical reaction on mixing, based on past development of models for the sub-filter scale scalar dissipation rate in premixed combustion. The new model is assessed in the two turbulent premixed jet flames F1 and F3. Parametric studies are performed to examine the new model and its sensitivity when combined with the different mixing models. Significantly improved performance of the new mixing frequency model is observed to capture the premixed flame propagation reasonably, when compared with the conventional model. The sensitivity of the flame predictions is found be relatively weak to the different mixing models in conjunction with the new mixing frequency model.  相似文献

Despite significant advances in the understanding and modelling of turbulent combustion, no general model has been proposed for simulating flames in industrial combustion devices. Recently, the increase in computational possibilities has raised the hope of directly solving the large turbulent scales using large eddy simulation (LES) and capturing the important time-dependant phenomena. However, the chemical reactions involved in combustion occur at very small scales and the modelling of turbulent combustion processes is still required within the LES framework. In the present paper, a recently presented model for the LES of turbulent premixed flames is presented, analysed and discussed. The flamelet hypothesis is used to derive a filtered source term for the filtered progress variable equation. The model ensures proper flame propagation. The effect of subgrid scale (SGS) turbulence on the flame is modelled through the flame-wrinkling factor. The present modelling of the source term is successfully tested against filtered direct numerical simulation (DNS) data of a V-shape flame. Further, a premixed turbulent flame, stabilised behind an expansion, is simulated. The predictions agree well with the available experimental data, showing the capabilities of the model for performing accurate simulations of unsteady premixed flames.  相似文献

Statistically planar turbulent premixed and partially premixed flames for different initial turbulence intensities are simulated for global equivalence ratios ??>?=?0.7 and ??>?=?1.0 using three-dimensional Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) with simplified chemistry. For the simulations of partially premixed flames, a random distribution of equivalence ratio following a bimodal distribution of equivalence ratio is introduced in the unburned reactants ahead of the flame. The simulation parameters in all of the cases were chosen such that the combustion situation belongs to the thin reaction zones regime. The DNS data has been used to analyse the behaviour of the dissipation rate transports of both active and passive scalars (i.e. the fuel mass fraction Y F and the mixture fraction ξ) in the context of Reynolds Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) simulations. The behaviours of the unclosed terms of the Favre averaged scalar dissipation rates of fuel mass fraction and mixture fraction (i.e. \(\widetilde {\varepsilon }_Y =\overline {\rho D\nabla Y_F^{\prime \prime } \cdot \nabla Y_F^{\prime \prime } } /\overline{\rho }\) and \(\widetilde {\varepsilon }_\xi =\overline {\rho D\nabla \xi ^{\prime \prime }\cdot \nabla \xi ^{\prime \prime }} /\overline {\rho })\) transport equations have been analysed in detail. In the case of the \(\widetilde {\varepsilon }_Y \) transport, it has been observed that the turbulent transport term of scalar dissipation rate remains small throughout the flame brush whereas the terms due to density variation, scalar–turbulence interaction, reaction rate and molecular dissipation remain the leading order contributors. The term arising due to density variation remains positive throughout the flame brush and the combined contribution of the reaction and molecular dissipation to the \(\widetilde {\varepsilon }_Y \) transport remains negative throughout the flame brush in all cases. However, the behaviour of scalar–turbulence interaction term of the \(\widetilde {\varepsilon }_Y \) transport equation is significantly affected by the relative strengths of turbulent straining and the straining due to chemical heat release. In the case of the \(\widetilde {\varepsilon }_\xi \) transport, the turbulent transport term remains small throughout the flame brush and the density variation term is found to be negligible in all cases, whilst the reaction rate term is exactly zero. The scalar–turbulence interaction term and molecular dissipation term remain the leading order contributors to the \(\widetilde {\varepsilon }_\xi \) transport throughout the flame brush in all cases that have been analysed in the present study. Performances of existing models for the unclosed terms of the transport equations of \(\widetilde {\varepsilon }_Y \) and \(\widetilde {\varepsilon }_\xi \) are assessed with respect to the corresponding quantities obtained from DNS data. Based on this exercise either suitable models have been identified or new models have been proposed for the accurate closure of the unclosed terms of both \(\widetilde {\varepsilon }_Y \) and \(\widetilde {\varepsilon }_\xi \) transport equations in the context of Reynolds Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) simulations.  相似文献

Three dimensional, fully compressible direct numerical simulations (DNS) of premixed turbulent flames are carried out in a V-flame configuration. The governing equations and the numerical implementation are described in detail, including modifications made to the Navier?CStokes Characteristic Boundary Conditions (NSCBC) to accommodate the steep transverse velocity and composition gradients generated when the flame crosses the boundary. Three cases, at turbulence intensities, u??/s L , of 1, 2, and 6 are considered. The influence of the flame holder on downstream flame properties is assessed through the distributions of the surface-conditioned displacement speed, curvature and tangential strain rates, and compared to data from similarly processed planar flames. The distributions are found to be indistinguishable from planar flames for distances greater than about 17?? th downstream of the flame holder, where ?? th is the laminar flame thermal thickness. Favre mean fields are constructed, and the growth of the mean flame brush is found to be well described by simple Taylor type diffusion. The turbulent flame speed, s T is evaluated from an expression describing the propagation speed of an isosurface of the mean reaction progress variable $\tilde{c}$ in terms of the imbalance between the mean reactive, diffusive, and turbulent fluxes within the flame brush. The results are compared to the consumption speed, s C , calculated from the integral of the mean reaction rate, and to the predictions of a recently developed flame speed model (Kolla et al., Combust Sci Technol 181(3):518?C535, 2009). The model predictions are improved in all cases by including the effects of mean molecular diffusion, and the overall agreement is good for the higher turbulence intensity cases once the tangential convective flux of $\tilde{c}$ is taken into account.  相似文献

Experiments are carried out on partially premixed turbulent flames stabilized in a conical burner. The investigated gaseous fuels are methane, methane diluted with nitrogen, and mixtures of CH4, CO, CO2, H2 and N2, simulating typical products from gasification of biomass, and co-firing of gasification gas with methane. The fuel and air are partially premixed in concentric tubes. Flame stabilization behavior is investigated and significantly different stabilization characteristics are observed in flames with and without the cone. Planar laser induced fluorescence (LIF) imaging of a fuel-tracer species, acetone, and OH radicals is carried out to characterize the flame structures. Large eddy simulations of the conical flames are carried out to gain further understanding of the flame/flow interaction in the cone. The data show that the flames with the cone are more stable than those without the cone. Without the cone (i.e. jet burner) the critical jet velocities for blowoff and liftoff of biomass derived gases are higher than that for methane/nitrogen mixture with the same heating values, indicating the enhanced flame stabilization by hydrogen in the mixture. With the cone the stability of flames is not sensitive to the compositions of the fuels, owing to the different flame stabilization mechanism in the conical flames than that in the jet flames. From the PLIF images it is shown that in the conical burner, the flame is stabilized by the cone at nearly the same position for different fuels. From large eddy simulations, the flames are shown to be controlled by the recirculation flows inside cone, which depends on the cone angle, but less sensitive to the fuel compositions and flow speed. The flames tend to be hold in the recirculation zones even at very high flow speed. Flame blowoff occurs when significant local extinction in the main body of the flame appears at high turbulence intensities.  相似文献

The flame displacement speeds in turbulent premixed flames have been measured directly by the CH double-pulsed planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF). The CH double-pulsed PLIF systems consist of two independent conventional CH PLIF measurement systems and laser beams from each laser system are led to same optical pass using the difference of polarization. The highly time-resolved measurements are conducted in relatively high Reynolds number turbulent premixed flames on a swirl-stabilized combustor. Since the time interval of the successive CH PLIF can be selected to any optimum value for the purpose intended, both of the large scale dynamics and local displacement of the flame front can be discussed. By selecting an appropriate time interval (100–200 μs), deformations of the flame front are captured clearly. Successive CH fluorescence images reveal the burning/generating process of the unburned mixtures or the handgrip structures in burnt gas, which have been predicted by three-dimensional direct numerical simulations of turbulent premixed flames. To evaluate the local flame displacement speed directly from the successive CH images, a flame front identification scheme and a displacement vector evaluation scheme are developed. Direct measurements of flame displacement speed are conducted by selecting a minute time interval (≈30 μs) for different Reynolds number (Re λ = 63.1–115.0). Local flame displacement speeds coincide well for different Reynolds number cases. Furthermore, comparisons of the mean flame displacement speed and the mean fluid velocity show that the convection in the turbulent flames will affect the flame displacement speed for high Reynolds number flames.  相似文献

A new turbulent flow system is proposed for the study of premixed turbulent combustion processes. This cruciform burner consists of two cylindrical vessels. The long vertical vessel can provide a stable downward propagating premixed-flame at one atmosphere. The horizontal vessel was equipped with a pair of motor-driven fans and perforated plates at each end. The fans can generate two intense counter-rotating large vortical streams with controllable fan frequency up to 7620 rpm. It was found that an approximately isotropic stationary turbulence with large turbulent intensities (greater than 450 cm/s) located in the core region between two perforated plates can be generated, as verified by extensive LDV measurements. In that mean velocities are nearly zero, turbulent intensities in all three directions are roughly equal, and the energy spectrum has a −5/3 slope, indicating that the turbulence has some properties of isotropic turbulence. Other parameters of interest, such as the autocorrelation, the integral length scale, and the experimental uncertainties are also reported for the first time. The present turbulence generator can be conveniently adopted for many experimental studies, such as gaseous premixed flames propagation and particle settling in nearly isotropic turbulence.  相似文献

In order to provide a suitable technique for 3D observation of high speed turbulent flames, non-scanning 3D-CT(Computer Tomography) technique using a multi-directional quantitative schlieren system with flash light source, is proposed for instantaneous density distribution of unsteady premixed flames. This “schlieren 3D-CT” is based on (i)simultaneous acquisition of flash-light schlieren images taken from numerous directions, and (ii) 3D-CT reconstruction of the images by an appropriate CT algorithm. In this paper, first, as a preliminary research, 3D-CT reconstruction of non-axisymmetric steady flame is made with a single-directional quantitative schlieren system. Next, with custom-made 20 directional schlieren camera, instantaneous density distributions of a high-speed turbulent flames of nozzle exit velocities of 8.0 and 10.0 m/s has been CT-reconstructed. The 3D-views of the reconstructed flame front shape clearly give the information of the flame structure with fine scale corrugations. Based on the distributions, area-enlargement rates of the flame front area are derived, and investigated.  相似文献

A high‐order accurate upwind compact difference scheme with an optimal control coefficient is developed to track the flame front of a premixed V‐flame. In multi‐dimensional problems, dispersion effect appears in the form of anisotropy. By means of Fourier analysis of the operators, anisotropic effects of the upwind compact difference schemes are analysed. Based on a level set algorithm with the effect of exothermicity and baroclinicity, the flame front is tracked. The high‐order accurate upwind compact scheme is employed to approximate the level set equation. In order to suppress numerical oscillations, the group velocity control technique is used and the upwind compact difference scheme is combined with the random vortex method to simulate the turbulent premixed V‐flame. Distributions of velocities and flame brush thickness are obtained by this technique and found to be comparable with experimental measurement. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

利用高速纹影摄像等技术探讨了密闭管道内不同当量比的甲烷/空气预混气体火焰的传播特征。结果表明,当甲烷含量接近当量值时,预混气体火焰传播中会发生火焰阵面由向未燃区弯曲到向已燃区弯曲的转折过程,逐渐由层流燃烧转变成湍流燃烧,并形成Tulip火焰结构;当甲烷含量偏离当量值一定程度时,预混火焰呈现出典型的层流燃烧特征,不会发生火焰阵面由向未燃区弯曲到向已燃区弯曲的转折过程。Tulip火焰结构形成于火焰传播速度迅速降低的区间里,且只有当减速阶段的最大加速度的绝对值大于某一数值时才能形成;Tulip火焰结构是预混火焰由层流燃烧向湍流燃烧转变的一个中间过程。  相似文献

In this study, we report on the direct measurement of the density-weighted subgrid scale (SGS) stress tensor in turbulent premixed flames. In large-eddy simulations (LES), this unresolved tensor is typically modelled using eddy viscosity approaches. Additionally to the direct measurement, we provide a pure experimentally based a-priori test of the commonly used eddy viscosity model suggested by Smagorinsky. For two turbulent premixed V-shaped methane–air flames, a statistical analysis is presented where the correlation between the directly measured SGS stress tensor and the eddy viscosity model following Smagorinsky is tested. The measurement strategy is based on the application of a dual-plane stereo-PIV technique which enables the measurement of the 3D flow field in two parallel planes. This allows the determination of velocities as well as velocity gradients in all three directions. Here, a vector resolution of 118 μm was achieved. For a priori testing, the data are subjected to a spatial filtering procedure that reproduces the application of the filter function in LES. The calculation of velocity gradients is performed after the application of this spatial averaging. Additionally to the velocity field, the flame front position is deduced from the clearly observable step in the tracer particle number density between burnt and unburnt regions of the flame. This facilitates the direct single-shot-based evaluation of all components of the density-weighted SGS stress tensor. Additionally, the model expressions related to these terms can be determined, which is done in this first study for the static Smagorinsky model. With that, the instantaneous local comparison between directly measured stress terms and modelled terms is possible, based on the instantaneous local evaluation procedure. The measurement procedure is described, and first results are presented and discussed. They show a rather poor performance of the static form of the Smagorinsky model (with fixed Smagorinsky constant). Our future aims are to use the directly measured SGS data for the a-priori comparison with more advanced models.  相似文献
