The method of wave function expansion is adopted to study the three dimensional scattering of a plane progressive harmonic acoustic wave incident upon an arbitrarily thick-walled helically filament-wound composite cylindrical shell submerged in and filled with compressible ideal fluids. An approximate laminate model in the context of the so-called state-space formulation is employed for the construction of T-matrix solution to solve for the unknown modal scattering coefficients. Considering the nonaxisymmetric wave propagation phenomenon in anisotropic cylindrical components and following the resonance scattering theory which determines the resonance and background scattering fields, the stimulated resonance frequencies of the shell are isolated and classified due to their fundamental mode of excitation, overtone and style of propagation along the cylindrical axis (i.e., clockwise or anticlockwise propagation around the shell) and are identified as the helically circumnavigating waves.  相似文献

The theory is developed for obtaining the propagation constants of a thin uniform cylindrical shell, periodically stiffened by uniform circular frames of general cross-section. The free wave motion is analyzed and the stop and pass bands of free wave motion in the structure are located. Hysteretic damping is included. The natural frequencies of two stiffened finite cylindrical shells are deduced. The relative effects of the frame cross section and pitch on the free vibration characteristics of the whole structure are discussed.  相似文献

The acoustic scattering from a fluid-loaded stiffened cylindrical shell is described by using elasticity theory. The cylindrical shell is reinforced by a thin internal plate which is diametrically attached along the tube. In this model, cylindrical shell displacements and constraints expressed from elasticity theory are coupled to those of the plate at the junctions, where plate vibrations are described by using plate theory. The present model is first validated at low frequency range (k1a approximately 5-40) by comparison with a previous model based on the Timoshenko-Mindlin thin shell theory and by experimental results. Theoretical and experimental resonance spectra are then analyzed in a high frequency range (k1a approximately 120-200). Only resonances due to the S0 wave are clearly observed in this frequency range, and their modes of propagation are identified. Furthermore, A0 wave propagation is detected, because of the presence of the reflection of this wave at the shell-plate junctions.  相似文献

The method of wave function expansion is adopted to study the three dimensional scattering of a time-harmonic plane progressive sound field obliquely incident upon a multi-layered hollow cylinder with interlaminar bonding imperfection. For the generality of solution, each layer is assumed to be cylindrically orthotropic. An approximate laminate model in the context of the modal state equations with variable coefficients along with the classical T-matrix solution technique is set up for each layer to solve for the unknown modal scattering and transmission coefficients. A linear spring model is used to describe the interlaminar adhesive bonding whose effects are incorporated into the global transfer matrix by introduction of proper interfacial transfer matrices. Following the classic acoustic resonance scattering theory (RST), the scattered field and response to surface waves are determined by constructing the partial waves and obtaining the non-resonance (backgrounds) and resonance components. The solution is first used to investigate the effect of interlayer imperfection of an air-filled and water submerged bilaminate aluminium cylindrical shell on the resonances associated with various modes of wave propagation (i.e., symmetric/asymmetric Lamb waves, fluid-borne A-type waves, Rayleigh and Whispering Gallery waves) appearing in the backscattered spectrum, according to their polarization and state of stress. An illustrative numerical example is also given for a multi-layered (five-layered) cylindrical shell for which the stiffness of the adhesive interlayers is artificially varied. The sensitivity of resonance frequencies associated with higher mode numbers to the stiffness coefficients is demonstrated to be a good measure of the bonding strength. Limiting cases are considered and fair agreements with solutions available in the literature are established.  相似文献

Analytical expressions are found for the wavenumbers and resonance frequencies in flexible, orthotropic shells using the asymptotic methods. These expressions are valid for arbitrary circumferential orders n. The Donnell-Mushtari shell theory is used to model the dynamics of the cylindrical shell. Initially, an in vacuo cylindrical isotropic shell is considered and expressions for all the wavenumbers (bending, near-field bending, longitudinal and torsional) are found. Subsequently, defining a suitable orthotropy parameter ?, the problem of wave propagation in an orthotropic shell is posed as a perturbation on the corresponding problem for an isotropic shell. Asymptotic expressions for the wavenumbers in the in vacuo orthotropic shell are then obtained by treating ? as an expansion parameter. In both cases (isotropy and orthotropy), a frequency-scaling parameter (η) and Poisson's ratio (ν) are used to find elegant expansions in the different frequency regimes. The asymptotic expansions are compared with numerical solutions in each of the cases and the match is found to be good. The main contribution of this work lies in the extension of the existing literature by developing closed-form expressions for wavenumbers with arbitrary circumferential orders n in the case of both, isotropic and orthotropic shells. Finally, we present natural frequency expressions in finite shells (isotropic and orthotropic) for the axisymmetric mode and compare them with numerical and ANSYS results. Here also, the comparison is found to be good.  相似文献

A circular cylindrical cavity enclosed by a thin elastic shell is found in many practical devices such as expansion volume mufflers, hermetic compressors and aircraft cabins. Analytical and experimental studies are conducted in this work to understand the characteristics of sound transmission through the cylindrical wall of such a system. Using an infinitely long circular cylindrical shell subjected to a plane incident wave, an exact solution is obtained by solving the classical shell vibration equations and the acoustic wave equations simultaneously. Transmission losses obtained from the solution are compared to the transmission losses that are measured for a cylindrical shell of finite length and the same cross-sectional dimensions. The comparison suggests that the theoretical model can be used as an effective design tool despite considerable simplifications involved.  相似文献

The forced vibration of an infinite elastic circular cylindrical shell filled with fluid is studied. Three methods are employed to analyze the forced vibration problem of this shell-fluid coupled system, that is, wave propagation approach (wave mode superposition), theorem of residues and a numerical integral method. In order to explain these methods more explicitly, before being used to investigate the vibration of an infinite fluid-filled elastic circular cylindrical shell, all these three methods are employed firstly to analyze the forced vibration problem of an infinite beam and an infinite elastic circular cylindrical shell in vacuo. Advantage and disadvantage of these three methods are discussed and their interesting relationship is revealed. That is, to any circumferential wavenumber and frequency of the external force, there is an unchangeable relationship between the general coordinates of various waves in the wave propagation approach and the residuals in the theorem of residues.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis for the free vibration of simply supported buried pipes has been investigated using the wave propagation approach. The pipe modeled as a thin cylindrical shell of linear homogeneous isotropic elastic material buried in a linear isotropic homogeneous elastic medium of infinite extent. The vibrations of the pipe are examined by using Flüggle shell equation. The natural frequencies are obtained for the pipes surrounded by vacuo or elastic medium. The results are compared with those available in the literature and agreement is found with them. It is found that the free vibration frequency of the pipe does not appear for some of the axial or circular vibration modes and the real natural frequencies of the pipe are significantly dependent on the rigidity of the surrounding medium.  相似文献

Properties of helical waves of a cylindrical shell described by Kirchhoff-Love equations are considered. The problem is reduced to the case of the propagation of plane waves in an equivalent plate. On the basis of the corresponding dispersion equation and its solution, a conclusion is made about the anisotropy of the shell properties. Dispersion curves are plotted for different angles of propagation of helical waves with respect to the shell axis. Displacements of the shell along and across the direction of wave propagation are calculated.  相似文献

Measurements of the vibrational response of a spherical aluminum shell subject to changes in the interior pressure clearly demonstrate that resonance frequencies shift higher as the pressure is increased. The frequency shift appears to be smaller for longitudinal modes than for bending wave modes. The magnitude of frequency shift is comparable to analytical predictions made for thin cylindrical shells. Changes in the amplitudes of resonance peaks are also observed. A possible application of this result is a method for noninvasively monitoring pressure changes inside sealed containers, including intracranial pressure in humans.  相似文献

The initial-boundary-value problem for the equations describing motion of a thin, medium-length, non-circular cylindrical shell is examined. The shell edges are not necessarily plane curves, with the conditions of a joint support, a rigid clamp or a free edge being considered as the boundary conditions. The shell is supposed to experience normal internal (or external) dynamic pressure which may be non-uniform in the circumferential direction. It is assumed that the initial displacements and velocities of the points at the shell middle surface are functions decreasing rapidly away from some generatrix. Using the complex WKB method the asymptotic solution of the governing equations is constructed by superimposing localized families (wave packets) of bending waves running in the circumferential direction. The dependence of frequencies, group velocities, amplitudes and other dynamic characteristics upon variable pressure and geometrical parameters of the shell are studied. As an example, the wave forms of motion of a circular cylindrical shell with sloping edges under growing dynamic pressure are considered. The effect of localization of bending vibrations near the longest generator as well as the effects of reflection, focusing and increasing amplitude in the running wave packets are revealed.  相似文献

Generation of electromagnetic waves by an annular shell of plasma rotating in crossed radial electrostatic and axial magnetic fields in a cylindrical resonator is investigated theoretically. Dispersion relations are obtained describing the interaction of the waves with the plasma. It is shown that generation of waves by a narrow plasma shell is possible due to a cyclotron resonance, Čerenkov resonance, or plasma resonance. Here we consider a Čerenkov resonance, where the velocities of the plasma components and the phase velocities of the waves are perpendicular to the constant magnetic field. The frequencies and growth rates of the waves are found under conditions of the above-mentioned resonances in a uniform and in a nonuniform plasma shell. Advantages and disadvantages of wave generation under various conditions are noted. Zh. Tekh. Fiz. 69, 16–21 (February 1999)  相似文献

Tyre noise is generated by several mechanisms. With a modern tyre, wall vibration, air pumping and air resonant radiation are all considered to be important. But tyre noise generating mechanisms are still not clear due to the complication of tyre vibration behaviour. Vibrations of the tyre shell are the combination of several different wave types which appear at different frequencies. In a low frequency range, where the tyre behaves like an elastically supported beam, the circular ring model is used to analyze the dispersion relations. Above 300 Hz, which is the transition point from one-dimensional to two-dimensional waveguide properties of the passenger car tyre, a cylindrical shell model is used to analyze flexural waves propagation. Two important features on the wave propagation, wave-guide behaviour and the curvature effect of the tyre wall are analyzed. In consideration of noise radiation from tyre waves, most of the tyre waves observed in this study are inefficient sound radiators since their wavenumbers are larger than the acoustic wave number. As a result, It is observed that one of the most important features in sound radiation of a tyre shell is acoustically excited wave motion of the tyre wall.  相似文献

Narrow-band backscattering experiments are used to characterize a meridional ray enhancement on a tilted, finite empty cylindrical shell having a blunt truncation. The meridional ray of the lowest order flexural leaky Lamb wave is examined, which has previously been shown to lead to large backscattering enhancements for excitation frequencies near and above the shell's coincidence frequency. The measurements are used to validate a convolution formulation ray theory describing the far-field backscattered amplitudes. Comparisons are also made with an approximate partial wave series solution for the finite cylindrical shell. The amplitude of the meridional ray enhancement is dependent on the nature of the reflection of the leaky wave from the shell truncation. While the peak measured amplitude agrees with predictions at low frequencies, experiments indicate the enhancement is degraded at high frequencies and exhibits an abrupt drop near the frequency of the mode threshold (cutoff) for the next-highest flexural mode. The nature of the leaky wave end reflection is examined using an approximate calculation of the energy reflection coefficient for leaky waves on a semi-infinite free plate. Results suggest the observed degradation is the result of mode conversion effects.  相似文献

This work presents the free vibration characteristics of a thin walled cylindrical shell at the zeroth axial mode number. The cylindrical shell has shear-diaphragm boundary conditions at each end. The thin shell equations by Flügge are used as these equations of motion lead to more accurate results at low frequencies. The zeroth axial mode number is found to occur at the cut-on of the second class of waves. The mode shapes at these natural frequencies result in a purely axial displacement of the middle surface of the shell. High modal density for the first class of waves occurs before the cutting-on of the second class of waves. Beyond this frequency, the dynamic response is dominated by the latter modes.  相似文献

The problem of the diffraction of a zero-order convergent cylindrical wave by a cylindrical shell with a longitudinal fixation along one of its generatrices is considered. The problem is solved on the basis of using the so-called helical waves, which are aperiodic eigensolutions to the equations of the shell motion. The diffraction field is represented in the form of a convergent series in cylindrical harmonics. The method of the solution allows for a generalization to several cases of longitudinal fixation with conditions of different forms. The calculation of the scattering amplitude of the diffraction field is carried out for various frequencies and shell parameters.  相似文献

This paper presents the free vibrational characteristics of isotropic coupled conical-cylindrical shells. The equations of motion for the cylindrical and conical shells are solved using two different methods. A wave solution is used to describe the displacements of the cylindrical shell, while the displacements of the conical sections are solved using a power series solution. Both Donnell-Mushtari and Flügge equations of motion are used and the limitations associated with each thin shell theory are discussed. Natural frequencies are presented for different boundary conditions. The effect of the boundary conditions and the influence of the semi-vertex cone angle are described. The results from the theoretical model presented here are compared with those obtained by previous researchers and from a finite element model.  相似文献

Scattering of obliquely incident plane acoustic wave by an air-filled, transversely isotropic cylindrical shell immersed in water is investigated theoretically and experimentally. The normal mode expansion technique is employed for analyzing the scattering field, and then resonance modes of the shell appearing in modal scattering form functions are identified performing the resonance scattering analysis. Dispersion curves for Sholte-Stoneley, SH and Lamb waves are obtained and their characteristics are interpreted. Calculated backscattering and resonance spectra as well as dispersion curves are compared with those from ultrasonic experiments for two composite samples having the same nominal composition but fabricated under different conditions. Sensitive change of the dispersion curves is observed for both normal and oblique incidences, which demonstrates the feasibility of systematic inverse evaluation of damage or elastic constants of the composite shell using data from the acoustic scattering measurements.  相似文献

This work presents the parametric study on the far-field sound pressure radiated from an infinite fluid-filled/semi-submerged cylindrical shell excited by a radial point load. Here, the exterior fluid is non-viscous, isotropic and irrotational coaxial flow. The formula of the radial velocity of the shell in wave-number domain is developed by using the wave-number domain approach (WDA). Then, the analytic expressions are derived for the far-field sound pressure radiating from the shell by using the same method presented in Salaün [Journal of the Acoustical Society of America 90 (1991) 2173]. The influences of parameters such as fluid velocity, structural damping, position of the force, and structural thickness on the far-field sound pressure are investigated. The sound pressure is shown to be very different from the one in the case of a fluid-filled/full-submerged cylindrical shell. Furthermore, it is shown that the pressure and the resonance frequency would increase with the fluid velocity increasing for downstream propagation. The reverse is true for upstream propagation. Moreover, the far-field sound pressure is related to the position and frequency of the excited force. In addition, the influences of structural damping and thickness are shown to be very important.
