We study a class of M -channel subband coding schemes with perfect reconstruction. Along the lines of [8] and [10], we construct compactly supported biorthogonal wavelet bases of L 2 (R) , with dilation factor M , associated to these schemes. In particular, we study the case of splines, and obtain explicitly simple expressions for all the relevant filters. The resulting wavelets have arbitrarily large regularity and we also obtain asymptotic estimates for the regularity exponent. September 17, 1998. Date revised: June 14, 1999. The main purpose of this paper is to give a procedure to “mollify” the low-pass filters of a large number ofMinimally Supported Frequency (MSF) wavelets so that the smoother functions obtained in this way are also low-pass filters for an MRA. Hence, we are able to approximate (in the L 2 -norm) MSF wavelets by wavelets with any desired degree of smoothness on the Fourier transform side. Although the MSF wavelets we consider are bandlimited, this may not be true for their smooth approximations. This phenomena is related to the invariant cycles under the transformation x ↦2x (mod2π). We also give a characterization of all low-pass filters for MSF wavelets. Throughout the paper new and interesting examples of wavelets are described.  相似文献

In this paper we study some basic properties of multiresolution analysis of multiplicityd in several variables and discuss some examples related to the spaces of cardinal splines with respect to the unidiagonal or the crisscross partition of the plane. Furthermore, in analogy with [8], we show that if the scaling functions are compactly supported, then it is possible to find compactly supported mother wavelets l ,l=1,...,2 n dd, in such a way that the family {2 jn/2 l (2 j xv)} is a semiorthogonal basis ofL 2 ( n ).  相似文献

Factoring wavelet transforms into lifting steps   总被引:236,自引:0,他引:236
This article is essentially tutorial in nature. We show how any discrete wavelet transform or two band subband filtering with finite filters can be decomposed into a finite sequence of simple filtering steps, which we call lifting steps but that are also known as ladder structures. This decomposition corresponds to a factorization of the polyphase matrix of the wavelet or subband filters into elementary matrices. That such a factorization is possible is well-known to algebraists (and expressed by the formulaSL(n;R[z, z−1])=E(n;R[z, z−1])); it is also used in linear systems theory in the electrical engineering community. We present here a self-contained derivation, building the decomposition from basic principles such as the Euclidean algorithm, with a focus on applying it to wavelet filtering. This factorization provides an alternative for the lattice factorization, with the advantage that it can also be used in the biorthogonal, i.e., non-unitary case. Like the lattice factorization, the decomposition presented here asymptotically reduces the computational complexity of the transform by a factor two. It has other applications, such as the possibility of defining a wavelet-like transform that maps integers to integers. Research Tutorial Acknowledgements and Notes. Page 264.  相似文献

In this paper we study symmetric orthogonal filters with linear-phase moments, which are of interest in wavelet analysis and its applications. We investigate relations and connections among the linear-phase moments, sum rules, and symmetry of an orthogonal filter. As one of the results, we show that if a real-valued orthogonal filter a is symmetric about a point, then a has sum rules of order m if and only if it has linear-phase moments of order 2m. These connections among the linear-phase moments, sum rules, and symmetry help us to reduce the computational complexity of constructing symmetric real-valued orthogonal filters, and to understand better symmetric complex-valued orthogonal filters with linear-phase moments. To illustrate the results in the paper, we provide many examples of univariate symmetric orthogonal filters with linear-phase moments. In particular, we obtain an example of symmetric real-valued 4-orthogonal filters whose associated orthogonal 4-refinable function lies in C2(R).  相似文献

Under the appropriate definition of sampling density Dϕ, a function f that belongs to a shift invariant space can be reconstructed in a stable way from its non-uniform samples only if Dϕ≥1. This result is similar to Landau's result for the Paley-Wiener space B 1/2 . If the shift invariant space consists of polynomial splines, then we show that Dϕ<1 is sufficient for the stable reconstruction of a function f from its samples, a result similar to Beurling's special case B 1/2 .  相似文献

In this paper, a new method is presented for designing M-band biorthogonal symmetric wavelets. The design problem of biorthogonal linear-phase scaling filters and wavelet filters as a quadratic programming problem with the linear constraints is formulated. The closed-form solution is given and a design example is presented.  相似文献

This paper is on the angle–frequency localization of periodic scaling functions and wavelets. It is shown that the uncertainty products of uniformly local, uniformly regular and uniformly stable scaling functions and wavelets are uniformly bounded from above by a constant. Results for the construction of such scaling functions and wavelets are also obtained. As an illustration, scaling functions and wavelets associated with a family of generalized periodic splines are studied. This family is generated by periodic weighted convolutions, and it includes the well‐known periodic B‐splines and trigonometric B‐splines. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider complete hypersurfaces in R n+1 with constant mean curvature H and prove that M n is a hyperplane if the L 2 norm curvature of M n satisfies some growth condition and M n is stable. It is an improvement of a theorem proved by H. Alencar and M. do Carmo in 1994. In addition, we obtain that M n is a hyperplane (or a round sphere) under the condition that M n is strongly stable (or weakly stable) and has some finite L p norm curvature. Let M^n be a closed spacelike submanifold isometrically immersed in de Sitter space Sp^(n p)(c), Denote by R,H and S the normalized scalar curvature, the mean curvature and the square of the length of the second fundamental form of M^n ,respectively. Suppose R is constant and R≤c. The pinching problem on S is studied and a rigidity theorem for M^n immersed in Sp^(n p)(c) with parallel normalized mean curvature vector field is proved. When n≥3, the pinching constant is the best. Thus, the mistake of the paper “Space-like hypersurfaces in de Sitter space with constant scalar curvature”(see Manus Math, 1998,95 :499-505) is corrected. Moreover, the reduction of the codimension when M^n is a complete submanifold in Sp^(n p)(c) with parallel normalized mean curvature vector field is investigated.  相似文献

In this article we consider the question when one can generate a Weyl- Heisenberg frame for l 2 (ℤ) with shift parameters N, M −1 (integer N, M) by sampling a Weyl-Heisenberg frame for L 2 (ℝ) with the same shift parameters at the integers. It is shown that this is possible when the window g ε L 2 (ℝ) generating the Weyl-Heisenberg frame satisfies an appropriate regularity condition at the integers. When, in addition, the Tolimieri-Orr condition A is satisfied, the minimum energy dual window o γ ε L 2 (ℝ) can be sampled as well, and the two sampled windows continue to be related by duality and minimality. The results of this article also provide a rigorous basis for the engineering practice of computing dual functions by writing the Wexler-Raz biorthogonality condition in the time-domain as a collection of decoupled linear systems involving samples of g and o γ as knowns and unknowns, respectively. We briefly indicate when and how one can generate a Weyl-Heisenberg frame for the space of K-periodic sequences, where K=LCM (N, M), by periodization of a Weyl-Heisenberg frame for ℓ 2 ℤ with shift parameters N, M −1 .  相似文献

Let X be a Banach function space, L [0, 1] ⊂ XL1[0, 1]. It is proved that if dual space of X has singularity property in closed set E ⊂ [0, 1] then: 1) there exists no orthonormal basis in C[0, 1], which forms an unconditional basis in X in metric of L1[0, 1] space, 2) for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator M we have   相似文献

For an invertible n×n matrix B and Φ a finite or countable subset of L2(Rn), consider the collection X={?(·-Bk):?∈Φ,kZn} generating the closed subspace M of L2(Rn). Our main objects of interest in this paper are the kernel of the associated Gramian G(.) and dual Gramian operator-valued functions. We show in particular that the orthogonal complement of M in L2(Rn) can be generated by a Parseval frame obtained from a shift-invariant system having m generators where . Furthermore, this Parseval frame can be taken to be an orthonormal basis exactly when almost everywhere. Analogous results in terms of dim(Ker(G(.))) are also obtained concerning the existence of a collection of m sequences in the orthogonal complement of the range of analysis operator associated with the frame X whose shifts either form a Parseval frame or an orthonormal basis for that orthogonal complement.  相似文献

A refinable spline in ℝ d is a compactly supported refinable function whose support can be decomposed into simplices such that the function is a polynomial on each simplex. The best-known refinable splines in ℝ d are the box splines. Refinable splines play a key role in many applications, such as numerical computation, approximation theory and computer-aided geometric design. Such functions have been classified in one dimension in Dai et al. (Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 22(3), 374–381, 2007), Lawton et al. (Comput. Math. 3, 137–145, 1995). In higher dimensions Sun (J. Approx. Theory 86, 240–252, 1996) characterized those splines when the dilation matrices are of the form A=mI, where m∈ℤ and I is the identity matrix. For more general dilation matrices the problem becomes more complex. In this paper we give a complete classification of refinable splines in ℝ d for arbitrary dilation matrices AM d (ℤ).  相似文献

Univariate cubic L 1 smoothing splines are capable of providing shape-preserving C 1-smooth approximation of multi-scale data. The minimization principle for univariate cubic L 1 smoothing splines results in a nondifferentiable convex optimization problem that, for theoretical treatment and algorithm design, can be formulated as a generalized geometric program. In this framework, a geometric dual with a linear objective function over a convex feasible domain is derived, and a linear system for dual to primal conversion is established. Numerical examples are given to illustrate this approach. Sensitivity analysis for data with uncertainty is presented. Let Mn be a complete Riemannian manifold immersed isometrically in the unity Euclidean sphere In [9], B. Smyth proved that if Mn, n ≧ 3, has sectional curvature K and Ricci curvature Ric, with inf K > −∞, then sup Ric ≧ (n − 2) unless the universal covering of Mn is homeomorphic to Rn or homeomorphic to an odd-dimensional sphere. In this paper, we improve the result of Smyth. Moreover, we obtain the classification of complete hypersurfaces of with nonnegative sectional curvature.Received: 11 November 2003  相似文献

Dedicated to Professor M. J. D. Powell on the occasion of his sixty-fifth birthday and his retirement. In this paper, we design differentiable, two-dimensional, piecewise polynomial cubic prewavelets of particularly small compact support. They are given in closed form, and provide stable, orthogonal decompositions of L 2 (R 2 ) . In particular, the splines we use in our prewavelet constructions give rise to stable bases of spline spaces that contain all cubic polynomials, whereas the more familiar box spline constructions cannot reproduce all cubic polynomials, unless resorting to a box spline of higher polynomial degree.  相似文献

In this note we prove that any smooth (C1 resp.) statistical manifold can be embedded into the space of probability measures on a finite set. As a result, we get positive answers to Lauritzen’s question and Amari’s question on a realization of smooth (C1 resp.) statistical manifolds as finite dimensional statistical models.  相似文献

This paper introduces the idea of cardinal interpolation on submodules of Zd by translates of box splines if the condition of global linear independence fails to hold. In particular, the special case of the 4-direction box splines is discussed, where the pertinent submodule is given by the pairs (k, l) of integersk, l withk+l even. For this case, one obtains results that parallel the known results for the 3-direction box splines.  相似文献
