We show that each first countable paratopological vector space X has a compatible translation invariant quasi-metric such that the open balls are convex whenever X is a pseudoconvex vector space. We introduce the notions of a right-bounded subset and of a right-precompact subset of a paratopological vector space X and prove that X is quasi-normable if and only if the origin has a convex and right-bounded neighborhood. Duality in this context is also discussed. Furthermore, it is shown that the bicompletion of any paratopological vector space (respectively, of any quasi-metric vector space) admits the structure of a paratopological vector space (respectively, of a quasi-metric vector space). Finally, paratopological vector spaces of finite dimension are considered. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We present a fuzzy quasi-metric version of the Banach contraction principle, which constitutes an extension of the famous Grabiec fixed point theorem. By using this result we show the existence of fixed point for contraction mappings on the domain of words when it is endowed with certain fuzzy quasi-metrics of Baire type. We apply this approach to deduce the existence of solution for some recurrence equations associated to the analysis of Quicksort algorithms and Divide & Conquer algorithms, respectively.  相似文献

We study domain theoretic properties of complexity spaces. Although the so-called complexity space is not a domain for the usual pointwise order, we show that, however, each pointed complexity space is an ω-continuous domain for which the complexity quasi-metric induces the Scott topology, and the supremum metric induces the Lawson topology. Hence, each pointed complexity space is both a quantifiable domain in the sense of M. Schellekens and a quantitative domain in the sense of P. Waszkiewicz, via the partial metric induced by the complexity quasi-metric.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate some notions of completion of partial metric spaces, including the bicompletion, the Smyth completion, and a new “spherical completion”. Given an auxiliary relation, we show that it arises from a totally bounded partial metric space, and the spherical completion of such a space is its round ideal completion. We also give an example of a totally bounded partial metric space whose bicompletion and Smyth completion are not continuous posets. Finally, we present an example of a totally bounded partial metric giving rise to the Scott and lower topologies of a continuous poset, but whose spherical completion is not a continuous poset.  相似文献

In this paper we prove a quasi-metric version of Ekeland Variational Principle and study its connections with the completeness properties of the underlying quasi-metric space. The equivalence with Caristi-Kirk?s fixed point theorem and a proof of Clarke?s fixed point theorem for directional contractions within this framework are also considered.  相似文献

V. Gregori and S. Romaguera [17] obtained an example of a fuzzy metric space (in the sense of A. George and P. Veeramani) that is not completable, i.e. it is not isometric to a dense subspace of any complete fuzzy metric space; therefore, and contrary to the classical case, there exist quiet fuzzy quasi-metric spaces that are not bicompletable neither D-completable, via (quasi-)isometries. In this paper we show that, nevertheless, it is possible to obtain solutions to the problem of completion of fuzzy quasi-metric spaces by using quasi-uniform isomorphisms instead of (quasi-)isometries. Such solutions are deduced from a general method, given here, to obtain extension properties of fuzzy quasi-metric spaces from the corresponding ones of the classical theory of quasi-uniform and quasi-metric spaces.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study which quasi-metrizable spaces are monotonically normal. In particular, we provide a sufficient condition for a quasi-metrizable space to be monotonically normal. This enables us to prove the monotone normality of a certain amount of interesting examples of quasi-metric spaces; for instance, we show that the continuous poset of formal balls of a metric space, endowed with the Scott topology, is a monotonically normal quasi-metrizable space.  相似文献

In 1999, Romaguera and Schellekens introduced the theory of dual complexity spaces as a part of the development of a mathematical (topological) foundation for the complexity analysis of programs and algorithms [S. Romaguera, M.P. Schellekens, Quasi-metric properties of complexity spaces, Topology Appl. 98 (1999) 311-322]. In this work we extend the theory of dual complexity spaces to the case that the complexity functions are valued on an ordered normed monoid. We show that the complexity space of an ordered normed monoid inherits the ordered normed structure. Moreover, the order structure allows us to prove some topological and quasi-metric properties of the new dual complexity spaces. In particular, we show that these complexity spaces are, under certain conditions, Hausdorff and satisfy a kind of completeness. Finally, we develop a connection of our new approach with Interval Analysis.  相似文献

We investigate some generalized metric space properties on paratopological (semitopological) groups and prove that a paratopological group that is quasi-metrizable by a left continuous, left-invariant quasi-metric is a topological group and give a negative answer to Ravsky?s question (Ravsky, 2001 [18, Question 3.1]). It is also shown that an uncountable paratopological group that is a closed image of a separable, locally compact metric space is a topological group. Finally, we discuss Hausdorff compactification of paratopological (semitopological) groups, give an affirmative answer to Lin and Shen?s question (Lin and Shen, 2011 [14, Question 6.9]) and improve an Arhangel?skii and Choban?s theorem. Some questions are posed.  相似文献

In directed algebraic topology, directed irreversible (d)-paths and spaces consisting of d-paths are studied from a topological and from a categorical point of view. Motivated by models for concurrent computation, we study in this paper spaces of d-paths in a pre-cubical complex. Such paths are equipped with a natural arc length which moreover is shown to be invariant under directed homotopies. D-paths up to reparametrization (called traces) can thus be represented by arc length parametrized d-paths. Under weak additional conditions, it is shown that trace spaces in a pre-cubical complex are separable metric spaces which are locally contractible and locally compact. Moreover, they have the homotopy type of a CW-complex.  相似文献

For any weightable quasi-metric space (X, d) having a maximum with respect to the associated order ≤ d , the notion of the quasi-metric of complexity convergence on the the function space (equivalently, the space of sequences) Xω , is introduced and studied. We observe that its induced quasi-uniformity is finer than the quasi-uniformity of pointwise convergence and weaker than the quasi-uniformity of uniform convergence. We show that it coincides with the quasi-uniformity of pointwise convergence if and only if the quasi-metric space (X, d) is bounded and it coincides with the quasi-uniformity of uniform convergence if and only if X is a singleton. We also investigate completeness of the quasi-metric of complexity convergence. Finally, we obtain versions of the celebrated Grothendieck theorem in this context.  相似文献

We develop a bicompletion theory for the category Ap0 of T0 approach spaces in the sense of Lowen [R. Lowen, Approach Spaces: The Missing Link in the Topology-Uniformity-Metric Triad, Oxford University Press, Oxford, 1997], which extends the completion theory obtained in [R. Lowen, K. Robeys., Completions of products of metric spaces, Quart. J. Math. Oxford 43 (1991) 319-338] for the subcategory of Hausdorff uniform approach spaces. Moreover, we prove it to be firmly epireflective (in the sense of [G.C.L. Brümmer, E. Giuli, A categorical concept of completion of objects, Comment. Math. Univ. Carolin. 33 (1992) 131-147]) with respect to a certain morphism class of dense embeddings.  相似文献

In this note, some problems concerning existence of maximal elements in a topological as well as in a generalized metric space, equipped with an ordering, are studied. The results presented here may be considered as a partial refinement of those established in [2] for uniform structures.  相似文献

LetC(X,Y) be the space of continuous functions from a metric space (X,d) to a metric space (Y, e).C(X, Y) can be thought as subset of the hyperspaceCL(X×Y) of closed and nonempty subsets ofX×Y by identifying each element ofC(X,Y) with its graph. We considerC(X,Y) with the topology inherited from the Wijsman topology induced onCL(X×Y) by the box metric ofd ande. We study the relationships between the Wijsman topology and the compact-open topology onC(X,Y) and also conditions under which the Wijsman topology coincide with the Fell topology. Sufficient conditions under which the compactopen topology onC(X,Y) is weaker than the Wijsman topology are given (IfY is totally bounded, then for every metric spaceX the compactopen topology onC(X,Y) is weaker than the Wijsman topology and the same is true forX locally connected andY rim-totally bounded). We prove that a metric spaceX is boundedly compact iff the Wijsman topology onC(X, ℝ) is weaker than the compact-open topology. We show that ifX is a σ-compact complete metric space andY a compact metric space, then the Wijsman topology onC(X,Y) is Polish.  相似文献

In this paper one obtains a sequential procedure for determining the global extremum of a semi-Lipschitz real-valued function defined on a quasi-metric (asymmetric metric) space. A metric space is indivisible if for any partition of it into finitely many pieces one piece contains an isometric copy of the whole space. Continuing our investigation of indivisible metric spaces [C. Delhommé, C. Laflamme, M. Pouzet, N. Sauer, Divisibility of countable metric spaces, European J. Combin. 28 (2007) 1746-1769], we show that a countable ultrametric space is isometrically embeddable into an indivisible ultrametric space if and only if it does not contain a strictly increasing sequence of balls.  相似文献

A Bing space is a compact Hausdorff space whose every component is a hereditarily indecomposable continuum. We investigate spaces which are quotients of a Bing space by means of a map which is injective on components. We show that the class of such spaces does not include every compact space, but does properly include the class of compact metric spaces.  相似文献

A quasi-metric space (X,d) is called sup-separable if (X,ds) is a separable metric space, where ds(x,y)=max{d(x,y),d(y,x)} for all x,yX. We characterize those preferences, defined on a sup-separable quasi-metric space, for which there is a semi-Lipschitz utility function. We deduce from our results that several interesting examples of quasi-metric spaces which appear in different fields of theoretical computer science admit semi-Lipschitz utility functions. We also apply our methods to the study of certain kinds of dynamical systems defined on quasi-metric spaces.  相似文献

With each metric space (X,d) we can associate a bornological space (X,Bd) where Bd is the set of all subsets of X with finite diameter. Equivalently, Bd is the set of all subsets of X that are contained in a ball with finite radius. If the metric d can attain the value infinite, then the set of all subsets with finite diameter is no longer a bornology. Moreover, if d is no longer symmetric, then the set of subsets with finite diameter does not coincide with the set of subsets that are contained in a ball with finite radius. In this text we will introduce two structures that capture the concept of boundedness in both symmetric and non-symmetric extended metric spaces.  相似文献

We obtain two fixed point theorems for complete partial metric space that, by one hand, clarify and improve some results that have been recently published in Topology and its Applications, and, on the other hand, generalize in several directions the celebrated Boyd and Wong fixed point theorem and Matkowski fixed point theorem, respectively.  相似文献
