The Lie algebra of the Euclidean group is an abelian extension of the orthogonal Lie algebra. We compute its Leibniz (co)homology. It is computed via the identification of certain orthogonal invariants and shown to be an algebra generated by a n−1-fold tensor and an n-fold tensor.  相似文献

In this paper, generalizing an earlier result by Payne–Rayner, we prove an isoperimetric lower bound for the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian in the fixed membrane problem on a compact minimal surface in a Euclidean space R n with weakly connected boundary. We also prove an isoperimetric upper bound for the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian of an embedded closed hypersurface in R n .  相似文献

Let g be a complex simple Lie algebra and b a Borel subalgebra. The algebra Y of polynomial semi-invariants on the dual b? of b is a polynomial algebra on rank g generators (Grothendieck and Dieudonné (1965–1967)) [16]. The analogy with the semisimple case suggests there exists an algebraic slice to coadjoint action, that is an affine translate y+V of a vector subspace of b? such that the restriction map induces an isomorphism of Y onto the algebra R[y+V] of regular functions on y+V. This holds in type A and even extends to all biparabolic subalgebras (Joseph (2007)) [20]; but the construction fails in general even with respect to the Borel. Moreover already in type C(2) no algebraic slice exists.Very surprisingly the exception of type C(2) is itself an exception. Indeed an algebraic slice for the coadjoint action of the Borel subalgebra is constructed for all simple Lie algebras except those of types B(2m), C(n) and F(4).Outside type A, the slice obtained meets an open dense subset of regular orbits, even though the special point y of the slice is not itself regular. An inverse problem for the wave equation outside an obstacle with a dissipative boundary condition is considered. The observed data are given by a single solution of the wave equation generated by an initial data supported on an open ball. An explicit analytical formula for the computation of the coefficient at a point on the surface of the obstacle, which is nearest to the center of the support of the initial data, is given. The generalized Lagrange algorithm is a number geometric generalization of Lagrange's continued fraction method for computing fundamental unit and class number of real quadratic number fields. This algorithm yields a system of fundamental units and the class number of an arbitrary algebraic number field by means of computing cycles of reduced ideals. In this paper we prove that the cardinality of a cycle of reduced ideals in an ideal class of an order of an algebraic number field is O(R), where R is the regulator of this order, and where the O-constant only depends on the degree of the field. Employing the affine normal flow, we prove a stability version of the p-affine isoperimetric inequality for p≥1 in ?2 in the class of origin-symmetric convex bodies. That is, if K is an origin-symmetric convex body in ?2 such that it has area π and its p-affine perimeter is close enough to the one of an ellipse with the same area, then, after applying a special linear transformation, K is close to an ellipse in the Hausdorff distance.  相似文献

The Artin conjecture on the finiteness of the Brauer group is shown to hold for an arithmetic model of a K3 surface over a number field k. The Brauer group of an arithmetic model of an Enriques surface over a sufficiently large number field is shown to be a 2-group. For almost all prime numbers l, the triviality of the l-primary component of the Brauer group of an arithmetic model of a smooth projective simply connected Calabi-Yau variety V over a number field k under the assumption that V (k) ≠ Ø is proved.  相似文献

For a given positive integer m and an algebraic number field K necessary and sufficient conditions for the mth cyclotomic polynomial to have K-integral solutions modulo a given integer of K are given. Among applications thereof are: that the solvability of the cyclotomic polynomial mod an integer yields information about the class number of related number fields; and about representation of integers by binary quadratic forms. The latter extends previous work of the author. Moreover some information is obtained pertaining to when an integer of K is the norm of an integer in a given quadratic extension of K. Finally an explicit determination of the pqth cyclotomic polynomial for distinct primes p and q is provided, and known results in the literature as well as generalizations thereof are obtained.  相似文献

The ratio of the largest eigenvalue divided by the trace of a p×p random Wishart matrix with n degrees of freedom and an identity covariance matrix plays an important role in various hypothesis testing problems, both in statistics and in signal processing. In this paper we derive an approximate explicit expression for the distribution of this ratio, by considering the joint limit as both p,n with p/nc. Our analysis reveals that even though asymptotically in this limit the ratio follows a Tracy-Widom (TW) distribution, one of the leading error terms depends on the second derivative of the TW distribution, and is non-negligible for practical values of p, in particular for determining tail probabilities. We thus propose to explicitly include this term in the approximate distribution for the ratio. We illustrate empirically using simulations that adding this term to the TW distribution yields a quite accurate expression to the empirical distribution of the ratio, even for small values of p,n.  相似文献

The peeling of a d-dimensional set of points is usually performed with successive calls to a convex hull algorithm; the optimal worst-case convex hull algorithm, known to have an O(n˙ Log (n)) execution time, may give an O(n˙n˙ Log (n)) to peel all the set; an O(n˙n) convex hull algorithm, m being the number of extremal points, is shown to peel every set with an O(n-n) time, and proved to be optimal; an implementation of this algorithm is given for planar sets and spatial sets, but the latter give only an approximate O(n˙n) performance.  相似文献

In the first part, we obtain two easily calculable lower bounds for ‖A-1‖, where ‖·‖ is an arbitrary matrix norm, in the case when A is an M-matrix, using first row sums and then column sums. Using those results, we obtain the characterization of M-matrices whose inverses are stochastic matrices. With different approach, we give another easily calculable lower bounds for ‖A-1 and ‖A-11 in the case when A is an M-matrix. In the second part, using the results from the first part, we obtain our main result, an easily calculable upper bound for ‖A-11 in the case when A is an SDD matrix, thus improving the known bound. All mentioned norm bounds can be used for bounding the smallest singular value of a matrix.  相似文献

We study relations between the quantity characterizing the distortion of families of curves under a given mapping and the structure of the branch point set of this mapping. For n ⩽ 3 we establish that the image of the branch point set of an open discrete mapping with an isolated essential singularity is an unbounded set in Rn provided that the mapping satisfies certain geometric conditions controlling the distortion of concentric annuli centered at this point.  相似文献

A theorem that is of aid in computing the domain of the adjoint operator is provided. It may serve e.g. as a criterion for selfadjointness of a symmetric operator, for normality of a formally normal operator or for H-selfadjointness of an H-symmetric operator.
