Flow and heat transfer of an elastico-viscous liquid between two parallel uniformly porous disks rotating about a common axis,
are studied by perturbation technique. It is seen that for such a fluid, drag increases with suction and decreases with injection,
while the rate of heat transfer increases in the presence of either suction or injection. 相似文献

In this paper, we present a consistent approach to reduce the fully nonlinear equations of a rotating disk to the classical linear equation derived by Lamb and Southwell and the nonlinear equations derived by Nowinski. The approach recognizes the fact that the out-of-plane deflection and the in-plane deflections are of different orders of magnitude. By using the ratio between the plate thickness and the outer radius as a measurement and carefully examining the reasonable magnitudes of all the variables involved, the fully nonlinear equations can be non-dimensionalized with all the terms being sorted according to their orders of magnitude. It is found that the classical linear equation derived by Lamb and Southwell can be recovered if all the terms of the lowest order of magnitude in the fully nonlinear equations are retained. If all the terms of the lowest two orders of magnitude are retained, Nowinski’s equations can then be recovered. Furthermore, the terms arising from in-plane deformation and rotary inertia are of the highest order and can be ignored in most of the applications. 相似文献

The theoretical formulation for bending analysis of functionally graded (FG) rotating disks based on first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is presented. The material properties of the disk are assumed to be graded in the radial direction by a power law distribution of volume fractions of the constituents. New set of equilibrium equations with small deflections are developed. A semi-analytical solution for displacement field is given under three types of boundary conditions applied for solid and annular disks. Results are verified with known results reported in the literature. Also, mechanical responses are compared between homogeneous and FG disks. It is found that the stress couple resultants in a FG solid disk are less than the stress resultants in full-ceramic and full-metal disk. It is observed that the vertical displacements for FG mounted disk with free condition at the outer surface do not occur between the vertical displacements of the full-metal and full-ceramic disk. More specifically, the vertical displacement in a FG mounted disk with free condition at the outer surface can even be greater than vertical displacement in a full-metal disk. It can be concluded from this work that the gradation of the constitutive components is a significant parameter that can influence the mechanical responses of FG disks. 相似文献

In the present paper, a power series solution is developed for free vibration and damping analyses of viscoelastic functionally graded plates with variable thickness on elastic foundations. It is assumed that the material properties of the functionally graded material (FGM) vary in the transverse and radial directions, simultaneously. Therefore, the presented solution can be employed for the transversely-graded and radially-graded viscoelastic circular plates, as special cases. In addition to the edge conditions, the plate may be resting on a two-parameter elastic foundation. The complex modulus approach in combination with the elastic–viscoelastic correspondence principle is employed to obtain the solution for various edge conditions. A sensitivity analysis including effects of various edge conditions, geometric parameters, coefficients of the elastic foundation, parameters of the functionally graded material, and material loss factor is carried out. In the present paper, concept of the complex modal stresses of the viscoelastic plates is discussed in detail. 相似文献

Some dynamical and statistical properties of a time-dependent rotating oval billiard are studied. We considered cases with (i) positive and (ii) negative curvature for the boundary. For (i) we show the system does not present unlimited energy growth. For case (ii) however the average velocity for an ensemble of noninteracting particles grows as a power law with acceleration exponent well defined. Finally, we show for both cases that after introducing time-dependent perturbation, the mixed structure of the phase space observed for static case is recovered by making a suitable transformation in the angular position of the particle. 相似文献

This work is focused on the study of unsteady magnetohydrodynamics boundary-layer flow and heat transfer for a viscous laminar incompressible electrically conducting and rotating fluid due to a stretching surface embedded in a saturated porous medium with a temperature-dependent viscosity in the presence of a magnetic field and thermal radiation effects. The fluid viscosity is assumed to vary as an inverse linear function of temperature. The Rosseland diffusion approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. With appropriate transformations, the unsteady MHD boundary layer equations are reduced to local nonsimilarity equations. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained by using the Runge–Kutta integration scheme as well as the local nonsimilarity method with second order truncation. Comparisons with previously published work have been conducted and the results are found to be in excellent agreement. A parametric study of the physical parameters is conducted and a representative set of numerical results for the velocity in primary and secondary flows as well as the local skin-friction coefficients and the local Nusselt number are illustrated graphically to show interesting features of Darcy number, viscosity-variation, magnetic field, rotation of the fluid, and conduction radiation parameters. 相似文献

The theoretical strength limit in compression (TSLC) of composite material with two alternating isotropic homogeneous elastic and viscoelastic layers is studied. The investigation is made within the piecewise-homogeneous body model with the use of the Three-Dimensional Linearized Theory of Stability for elastic and viscoelastic materials. It is assumed that there is an initial imperfection in the local curving form of the reinforcing layers along the direction which is inclined to the layers. As the criterion for determination of the TSLC, the case is taken for which the aforementioned imperfections start to increase indefinitely. The numerical results for the TSLC are presented and discussed. According to these numerical results, in particular, the direction (or the surface) along which the fracture in compression takes place, is determined. 相似文献

Chaotic and bifurcation dynamics of a simply-supported thermo-elastic circular plate with variable thickness in large deflection 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper presents the conditions that can possibly lead to chaotic motion and bifurcation behavior for a simply-supported large deflection thermo-elastic circular plate with variable thickness by utilizing the criteria of fractal dimensions, maximum Lyapunov exponents and bifurcation diagrams. The governing partial differential equation of the simply supported thermo-elastic circular plate with variable thickness is first derived by means of Galerkin method. Several different features including Fourier spectra, phase plot, Poincar’e map and bifurcation diagrams are numerically computed. These features are used to characterize the dynamic behavior of the plate subjected to various excitations of lateral loads and thermal loads. Numerical examples are presented to verify the conditions that lead to chaotic motion and the effectiveness of the proposed modeling approach. Numerical modeling results indicate that large deflection motion of a thermo-elastic circular plate with variable thickness possesses chaotic motions and bifurcation motion under different lateral loads and thermal loads. The simulation results also indicate that the periodic motion of a circular plate can be obtained for the convex or the concave circular plate. The dynamic motion of the circular plate is periodic for the cases including (1) the lateral loading frequency is within a specific range, (2) thermal and lateral loadings are operated in a specific range and (3) the thickness parameter is less than a specific critical value for the convex circular plate or greater than a specific critical value for the concave circular plate. The modeling results show that the proposed method can be employed to predict the non-linear dynamics of any large deflection circular plate with variable thickness. 相似文献

Gas turbine propulsion and aircraft engines involve a great number of rotating shrink-fit assemblies. In presence of high-speed rotations and thermal effects, the reliability of such components with respect to contact separation and failure occurrences needs to be analyzed in the very early design of those structures. In particular, engineers and designers are to prescribe an adequate shrink interference to ensure a structural safe life for a given range of operating conditions. This paper is devoted to the determination of those critical contact and plastic states. To that end, a thermo-elastic–plastic analytical model of a rotating shrink-fit assembly is studied. The stress distributions and contact/plasticity/failure conditions are then derived analytically. In the last part, the determination of the safe operating domain and optimum shrink interference is illustrated through a numerical example. 相似文献

An incompressible third grade fluid occupies the porous space between two rigid infinite plates. The steady rotating flow of this fluid due to a suddenly moved lower plate with partial slip of the fluid on the plate is analysed. The fluid filling the porous space between the two plates is electrically conducting. The flow modeling is developed by employing a modified Darcy’s law. A numerical solution of the governing problem consisting of a non-linear ordinary differential equation and non-linear boundary conditions is obtained and discussed. Several limiting cases of the arising problem can be obtained by choosing suitable parameters. 相似文献

The steady flow of an incompressible viscous non-Newtonian fluid above an infinite rotating porous disk in a porous medium is studied with heat transfer. A uniform injection or suction is applied through the surface of the disk. Numerical solutions of the non-linear differential equations which govern the hydrodynamics and energy transfer are obtained. The effect of the porosity of the medium, the characteristics of the non-Newtonian fluid and the suction or injection velocity on the velocity and temperature distributions is considered. The inclusion of the three effects, the porosity, the non-Newtonian characteristics, and the suction or injection velocity together has shown some interesting effects. 相似文献

Heat and mass transfer investigation of rotating hydrocarbons droplet which behaves as a hard sphere
The steady state boundary layer equations around rotating pure hydrocarbon droplet are solved numerically. The droplet is simulated to behave as a hard sphere. The transfer equations are discretized using an implicit finite difference method where Thomas algorithm solves the system of algebraic equations. Moreover, dimensionless parameters of heat and mass transfer phenomena around a rotating hexane droplet concluded. The thickness of the boundary layer is unknown for this model and therefore, it is determined. Further, this work proposes correlations of Nusselt and Sherwood numbers for monocomponent hydrocarbon droplets in evaporation. These correlations consider the rotation phenomena and further, the variation of the thermophysical and transport properties in the vapour phase. 相似文献

Large eddy simulations of the flow between a rotating
and a stationary disk have been performed using a dynamic and a
mixed dynamic subgrid-scale model. The simulations were compared
to direct numerical simulation results. The mixed dynamic model
gave better overall predictions than the dynamic model.
Modifications of the near-wall structures caused by the mean flow
three-dimensionality were also investigated. Conditional
averages near strong stress-producing events led to the same
conclusions regarding these modifications as studies of the flow
generated by direct numerical simulation, namely a distinct
asymmetry of the vortices producing sweeps and ejections. 相似文献

In this paper, we consider a nonlinear system of two coupled viscoelastic equations which describes the interaction between two different fields arising in viscoelasticity. We prove the well-posedness and, for a wider class of relaxation functions, establish a generalized stability result for this system. 相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to study the momentum and heat transfer characteristics in an incompressible electrically conducting non-Newtonian boundary layer flow of a viscoelastic fluid over a stretching sheet. The partial differential equations governing the flow and heat transfer characteristics are converted into highly non-linear coupled ordinary differential equations by similarity transformations. The effect of variable fluid viscosity, Magnetic parameter, Prandtl number, variable thermal conductivity, heat source/sink parameter and thermal radiation parameter are analyzed for velocity, temperature fields, and wall temperature gradient. The resultant coupled highly non-linear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically by employing a shooting technique with fourth order Runge–Kutta integration scheme. The fluid viscosity and thermal conductivity, respectively, assumed to vary as an inverse and linear function of temperature. The analysis reveals that the wall temperature profile decreases significantly due to increase in magnetic field parameter. Further, it is noticed that the skin friction of the sheet decreases due to increase in the Magnetic parameter of the flow characteristics. 相似文献

The effects of Hall current and heat transfer on the rotating flow of a second grade fluid past a porous plate with variable suction are examined. The medium considered is porous and suction and external flow velocities vary periodically. The plate is assumed to be at a higher temperature than the fluid. The influences of the Hall parameter and porosity of the medium have been seen and discussed on the velocity and temperature profiles. Moreover, these influences have also been seen on the drag and lateral stress. Finally, the obtained solutions are also compared with the previous studies in the literature and found quite agreement. 相似文献

The effect of Hall current and heat transfer on the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) flow of an electrically conducting, incompressible Burgers’ fluid between two infinite disks rotating about non-coaxial axes perpendicular to the disks is studied. The flow is due to a pull with constant velocities of eccentric rotating infinite disks and an external uniform magnetic field normal to the disks is applied. Exact solutions are obtained for the governing momentum and energy equations. The effects of Hartmann number M, Prandtl number Pr, Eckert number Ec and Hall parameter η are studied. 相似文献
