We consider the general theory of the modifications of quasi-definite linear functionals by adding discrete measures. We analyze the existence of the corresponding orthogonal polynomial sequences with respect to such linear functionals. The three-term recurrence relation, lowering and raising operators as well as the second order linear differential equation that the sequences of monic orthogonal polynomials satisfy when the linear functional is semiclassical are also established. In this work, semiclassical orthogonal polynomials in two variables are defined as the orthogonal polynomials associated with a quasi definite linear functional satisfying a matrix Pearson-type differential equation. Semiclassical functionals are characterized by means of the analogue of the structure relation in one variable. We give some characterization theorems for the D w -Laguerre-Hahn linear functionals and we extend the concept of the class of the usual Laguerre-Hahn functionals to the D w -Laguerre-Hahn functionals, recovering the classic results when w tends to zero. Moreover, we show that some transformations carried out on the D w -Laguerre-Hahn linear functionals lead to new D w -Laguerre-Hahn linear functionals. Finally, we analyze the class of the resulting functionals and we give some applications relative to the first associated Charlier, Meixner, Krawtchouk and Hahn orthogonal polynomials.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study of direct and inverse (Laurent) polynomial modifications of moment functionals on the unit circle, i.e., associated with hermitian Toeplitz matrices. We present a new approach which allows us to study polynomial modifications of arbitrary degree.The main objective is the characterization of the quasi-definiteness of the functionals involved in the problem in terms of a difference equation relating the corresponding Schur parameters. The results are presented in the general framework of (non-necessarily quasi-definite) hermitian functionals, so that the maximum number of orthogonal polynomials is characterized by the number of consistent steps of an algorithm based on the referred recurrence for the Schur parameters.The non-uniqueness of the inverse problem makes it more interesting than the direct one. Due to this reason, special attention is paid to the inverse modification, showing that different approaches are possible depending on the data about the polynomial modification at hand. These different approaches are translated as different kinds of initial conditions for the related inverse algorithm.Some concrete applications to the study of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle show the effectiveness of this new approach: an exhaustive and instructive analysis of the functionals coming from a general inverse polynomial perturbation of degree one for the Lebesgue measure; the classification of those pairs of orthogonal polynomials connected by a certain type of linear relation with constant polynomial coefficients; and the determination of those orthogonal polynomials whose associated ones are related to a degree one polynomial modification of the original orthogonality functional.  相似文献

In this paper we prove some characterizations of the matrix orthogonal polynomials whose derivatives are also orthogonal, which generalize other known ones in the scalar case. In particular, we prove that the corresponding orthogonality matrix functional is characterized by a Pearson-type equation with two matrix polynomials of degree not greater than 2 and 1. The proofs are given for a general sequence of matrix orthogonal polynomials, not necessarily associated with a hermitian functional. We give several examples of non-diagonalizable positive definite weight matrices satisfying a Pearson-type equation, which show that the previous results are non-trivial even in the positive definite case.A detailed analysis is made for the class of matrix functionals which satisfy a Pearson-type equation whose polynomial of degree not greater than 2 is scalar. We characterize the Pearson-type equations of this kind that yield a sequence of matrix orthogonal polynomials, and we prove that these matrix orthogonal polynomials satisfy a second order differential equation even in the non-hermitian case. Finally, we prove and improve a conjecture of Durán and Grünbaum concerning the triviality of this class in the positive definite case, while some examples show the non-triviality for hermitian functionals which are not positive definite.  相似文献

In this paper, we give new families of polynomials orthogonal with respect to a d-dimensional vector of linear functionals, d being a positive integer number, and generalizing the standard symmetric classical polynomials: Hermite and Gegenbauer. We state the inversion formula which is used to express the corresponding moments by means of integral representations involving the Meijer G-function. Moreover, we determine some characteristic properties for these polynomials: generating functions, explicit representations and component sets.  相似文献

In this paper a general theory of semi‐classical d‐orthogonal polynomials is developed. We define the semi‐classical linear functionals by means of a distributional equation , where Φ and Ψ are matrix polynomials. Several characterizations for these semi‐classical functionals are given in terms of the corresponding d‐orthogonal polynomials sequence. They involve a quasi‐orthogonality property for their derivatives and some finite‐type relations.  相似文献

In this contribution, we analyze the regularity conditions of a perturbation on a quasi-definite linear functional by the addition of Dirac delta functionals supported on N points of the unit circle or on its complement. We also deal with a new example of linear spectral transformation. We introduce a perturbation of a quasi-definite linear functional by the addition of the first derivative of the Dirac linear functional when its support is a point on the unit circle or two points symmetric with respect to the unit circle. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the quasi-definiteness of the new linear functional are obtained. Outer relative asymptotics for the new sequence of monic orthogonal polynomials in terms of the original ones are obtained. Finally, we prove that this linear spectral transform can be decomposed as an iteration of Christoffel and Geronimus linear transformations.  相似文献

These polynomials are described in terms of Hilbert–Schmidt kernels on the space of square-integrable linear functionals. We study the properties of functionals of this sort. This paper deals with symmetric and non-symmetric polynomial perturbations of symmetric quasi-definite bilinear functionals. We establish a relation between the Hessenberg matrices associated with the initial and the perturbed functionals using LU and QR factorizations. We consider the problem of evaluating discriminants of general orthogonal polynomials. It is shown that for a general class of weight functions, the functions of the second kind and the orthogonal polynomials are linear independent solutions of the same second order differential equation. We derive a linear fourth-order differential equation satisfied by the numerator polynomials and give two additional linear independent solutions.  相似文献

In this work we characterize a high-order Toda lattice in terms of a family of matrix polynomials orthogonal with respect to a complex matrix measure. In order to study the solution of this dynamical system, we give explicit expressions for the Weyl function, generalized Markov function, and we also obtain, under some conditions, a representation of the vector of linear functionals associated with this system. We show that the orthogonality is embedded in these structure and governs the high-order Toda lattice. We also present a Lax-type theorem for the point spectrum of the Jacobi operator associated with a Toda-type lattice.  相似文献

We consider Koornwinder’s method for constructing orthogonal polynomials in two variables from orthogonal polynomials in one variable. If semiclassical orthogonal polynomials in one variable are used, then Koornwinder’s construction generates semiclassical orthogonal polynomials in two variables. We consider two methods for deducing matrix Pearson equations for weight functions associated with these polynomials, and consequently, we deduce the second order linear partial differential operators for classical Koornwinder polynomials.  相似文献

This is a brief account on some results and methods of the asymptotic theory dealing with the entropy of orthogonal polynomials for large degree. This study is motivated primarily by quantum mechanics, where the wave functions and the densities of the states of solvable quantum-mechanical systems are expressed by means of orthogonal polynomials. Moreover, the uncertainty principle, lying in the ground of quantum mechanics, is best formulated by means of position and momentum entropies. In this sense, the behavior for large values of the degree is intimately connected with the information characteristics of high energy states. But the entropy functionals and their behavior have an independent interest for the theory of orthogonal polynomials. We describe some results obtained in the last 15 years, as well as sketch the ideas behind their proofs.  相似文献

In this work we give an interpretation of a (s (d + 1 ) + 1)-term recurrence relation in terms of type II multiple orthogonal polynomials. We rewrite this recurrence relation in matrix form and we obtain a three-term recurrence relation for vector polynomials with matrix coefficients. We present a matrix interpretation of the type II multi-orthogonality conditions. We state a Favard type theorem and the expression for the resolvent function associated to the vector of linear functionals. Finally a reinterpretation of the type II Hermite-Padé approximation in matrix form is given.  相似文献

Sobolev orthogonal polynomials in two variables are defined via inner products involving gradients. Such a kind of inner product appears in connection with several physical and technical problems. Matrix second-order partial differential equations satisfied by Sobolev orthogonal polynomials are studied. In particular, we explore the connection between the coefficients of the second-order partial differential operator and the moment functionals defining the Sobolev inner product. The sequences of quasi-orthogonal polynomials of order r are defined for non-quasi-definite moment functionals. Properties concerning the existence of such sequences, and relations between a quasi-orthogonal polynomial of order r and a set of orthogonal polynomials are proved. Two determinantal expressions of quasi-orthogonal polynomials of order r are given. We introduce a new map from polynomials orthogonal on the unit circle to polynomials orthogonal on the real axis. This map is closely related to the theory of CMV matrices. It contains an arbitrary parameter ?? which leads to a linear operator pencil. We show that the little and big ?1?Jacobi polynomials are naturally obtained under this map from the Jacobi polynomials on the unit circle.  相似文献

Laurent polynomials related to the Hahn-Extonq-Bessel function, which areq-analogues of the Lommel polynomials, have been introduced by Koelink and Swarttouw. The explicit strong moment functional with respect to which the Laurentq-Lommel polynomials are orthogonal is given. The strong moment functional gives rise to two positive definite moment functionals. For the corresponding sets of orthogonal polynomials, the orthogonality measure is determined using the three-term recurrence relation as a starting point. The relation between Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind and the Laurentq-Lommel polynomials and related functions is used to obtain estimates for the latter.  相似文献
