This paper discusses the transverse runaway effect in the electron-temperature approximation. The combinations of scattering mechanisms and the corresponding threshold electric fields for which transverse runaway develops are determined. Abstract

In a recent paper we developed a formalism that fully accommodates the mutual interactions among scatterers separable by parallel planes. The total fields propagating away from these planes are the unknowns of a system of difference equations. Each scatterer is characterized by a scattering function that expresses the scattered wave amplitude as a function of the incident and scattered wavevectors for a unit-amplitude plane wave scattered from the object in isolation. This function can be derived completely from the scattered far field with the help of analytic continuation. For a two-scatterer system the mutual-interaction equations reduce to a single Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. It turns out that analytic solutions are tractable for those scattering functions that are Dirac deltas or a sum of products of separable functions of the incident and scattered wavevectors. Scattering functions for planes and isotropic scatterers, as well as electric and magnetic dipoles all possess this property and are considered. The exact scattering functions agree with results obtained by analytic continuation. This paper consists of two parts. Part I derives analytic solutions for two discrete scatterers (isotropic scatterers. electric dipoles, magnetic dipoles). Part II is devoted to scattering from an object (isotropic or dipole scatterer) near an interface separating two semi-infinite uniforn-media. Because the results in this paper are exact, the effects of near-field interactions can be assessed. The forms of the scattering solutions can be adapted to objects that are both radiating and scattering.  相似文献

The behavior of lead zinc niobate, a relaxor ferroelectric, in electric fields has been studied by dielectric, optical transmittance, and small-angle light scattering techniques. A field-induced transition from an averaged cubic to macrodomain ferroelectric phase has been found. The polarization of radiation by scattering on an atom embedded in combined external quadrupole electric and uniform magnetic fields is studied theoretically. Limiting cases of scattering under Zeeman effect, and Hanle effect in weak magnetic fields are discussed. The theory is general enough to handle scattering in intermediate magnetic fields (Hanle-Zeeman effect) and for arbitrary orientation of magnetic field. The quadrupolar electric field produces asymmetric line shifts, and causes interesting level-crossing phenomena either in the absence of an ambient magnetic field, or in its presence. It is shown that the quadrupolar electric field produces an additional depolarization in the Q/I profiles and rotation of the plane of polarization in the U/I profile over and above that arising from magnetic field itself. This characteristic may have a diagnostic potential to detect steady-state and time-varying electric fields that surround radiating atoms in solar atmospheric layers.  相似文献

A transport equation is derived for the distribution function of heavy fermions in electric and magnetic fields that allows for potential and spin-spin interactions between the heavy fermions. The spectrum of the spin waves in the paramagnetic heavy-fermion state is calculated. Abstract

The scattered fields from a spherical body eccentrically located within an otherwise homogeneous host sphere are derived by satisfying the boundary conditions at both interfaces simultaneously. The source, which may be composed of any linear combination of S and P waves, is also located arbitrarily within the host sphere. The scattering system may have applications in seismic scattering, by cavities or dense bodies located near the Earth surface or to the Slichter mode.  相似文献

Various aspects of the influence of an external magnetic field on turbulent flow of a conducting fluid are investigated. The distributions of electric variables are determined for weak magnetic fields (both the electric field and the current have nonzero values in this case). For very strong magnetic fields it is shown that turbulent motion acquires a two-dimensional character. The emergence of an electric current component perpendicular to the flow and to the magnetic field is described in the case of a temperature-stratified medium in the presence of turbulent heat flux. The temperature dependence of the intensity of the Bragg and the transverse component of quasi-elastic neutron scattering from the single-crystal model relaxor PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3 (PMN) has been studied for various applied electric fields. It is shown that application of a field E>E th ≈1.6 kV/cm increases the elastic scattering intensity and reduces the intensity of the transverse diffuse-scattering component and that, below 230 K and for E>6 kV/cm, the elastic-scattering intensity saturates while the temperature-dependent part of the transverse diffuse-scattering component becomes practically suppressed. The measured temperature and field dependences of the intensity of type (h00) and (hh0) Bragg reflections provide supportive evidence both for the presence of considerable lead-ion displacements relative to the ideal perovskite sites and for the existence in strong electric fields of an induced transition to the ferroelectric phase below 250 K. Close-coupling scattering calculations have been carried out to predict the magnitude of electric fields required to dissociate specific vibration—rotation levels in H+ 2. Results for electric fields up to 40 kV cm?1, which may dissociate levels up to 25 cm?1 below the dissociation limit, are presented. The results are used to simulate spectra which are compared with experimental spectra. A method for extracting the eigenphase sum from a coupled channel scattering calculation is described in the appendix and used in the calculations.  相似文献

The bremsstrahlung is considered from a neutral Fermi particle with anomalous magnetic and electric moments in the field of a screened Coulomb center and in the presence of a plane electromagnetic wave. The effect of the wave polarization on the scattering cross section and the behavior of the particle spin during the scattering process are considered. Cross sections are given for scattering of a particle at a Coulomb center in the presence of constant, crossed electric and magnetic fields which are equal in magnitude and also for a free particle. It is shown that the effect of the anomalous electric moment is often decisive.  相似文献

A phenomenological model is developed for the giant magnetoresistance of granular media comprising ferromagnetic granules in a nonmagnetic metal matrix. Both volume and surface spin-dependent scattering by the ferromagnetic granules are taken into account. The internal electric fields are inhomogeneous because of the different conductivities of the granules and the matrix. The dependence of the effective conductivity of the medium on the average magnetization is calculated and used to explain the giant magnetoresistance effect. The magnetoresistance is plotted as a function of the volume concentration of ferromagnetic granules and the granule radius. Experiments on Co-Cu and Co-Ag granular films are discussed. Fiz. Tverd. Terahertz emission accompanying heating of two-dimensional electrons by a strong electric field applied along size-quantized GaAs/AlGaAs layers is observed and investigated. The emission is due to indirect optical transitions of hot electrons in the bottom size-quantization band. The experimentally obtained emission spectra are compared with the spectra calculated taking into account scattering of electrons by optical phonons, impurities, and interfacial roughness and electron-electron scattering. ABSTRACT

In this study, we analyzed the influence of isotropic plasma on far field scattering radiation of perfect electromagnetic conductor (PEMC) cylinder in the presence of directive electromagnetic radiation excited from an electric line source. Two cases regarding electric line source have been considered to gain more graphical variation corresponding to plasma parameters. In the first case, electric line source is placed outside the coating layer while in second case electric line source placed inside the coating. It has been demonstrated that the far field scattering patterns of PEMC, PEC, and PMC are strongly dependent on plasma parameters; however, their importance to control scattering pattern slightly changed/reversed corresponding to electric line source placement (inside the coating and outside the coating).  相似文献

基于Su-Schrieffer-Heeger(SSH)模型,考虑电子-电子相互作用,以及在哈密顿量中引入Brazovskii-Kivova对称破缺项,采用动力学演化的方法研究了在外电场作用下共轭高聚物分子链中大极化子与小极化子之间的弹性散射过程.研究发现,载流子的载荷性质不但决定大小极化子之间的相互作用性质,也深刻地影响了其发生散射后的载流子输运性质.在较低电场的作用下,当两载流子电性相同时,发生碰撞后,小极化子将推动着大极化子一起运动;而当两者电性相反时,碰撞后,大极化子将拖曳着小极化子一起运动.当电场强度超过临界值时,将产生量子隧穿效应,即,大小极化子相互迅速穿透,且不受载流子的载荷影响.  相似文献

We study the photoemission process of graded-doping GaN photocathode and find that the built-in electric fields can increase the escape probability and the effective diffusion length of photo-generated electrons,which results in the enhancement of quantum efficiency.The intervalley scattering mechanism and the lattice scattering mechanism in high electric fields are also investigated.To prevent negative differential mobility from appearing,the surface doping concentration needs to be optimized,and it is calculated to be 3.19×10 17 cm 3.The graded-doping GaN photocathode with higher performance can be realized by further optimizing the doping profile.  相似文献

An investigation is made of electric fields induced in natural dielectrics by mechanical loading and electrical polarization. It is shown that the relaxation of the polarization is identical in nature for both cases and is basically a thermally activated process. The temperature dependence is obtained for the relaxation time of the electric fields. Also estimated is the activation energy for motion of charge carriers leading to the relaxation of these fields. The dispersion of magnetoplasma excitations of two-dimensional electrons in oblique and parallel magnetic fields is investigated by the method of Raman scattering of light. The inclination of the field is used to distinguish the signals due to volume hot luminescence from the signals due to Raman scattering by two-dimensional electrons. Abstract

It is known that the angular correlation function of scattered fields from a randomly rough surface has a conspicuous enhancement on the memory line, and becomes much smaller away from the line. The finite-element method is employed to solve the problem of scattering from a scatter target situated over a randomly rough surface. Numerical results show that the width of the angular correlation function becomes broadened owing to the presence of the target. It can be used to detect the presence of a target placed over the rough surface.  相似文献
