We create a method which allows an arbitrary group G with an infrainvariant system ℒ(G) of subgroups to be embedded in a group G* with an infrainvariant system ℒ(G*) of subgroups, so that G α*G ∈ ℒ(G) for every subgroup G α*G ∈ ℒ(G*) and each factor B/A of a jump of subgroups in ℒ(G*) is isomorphic to a factor of a jump in ℒ(G), or to any specified group H. Using this method, we state new results on right-ordered groups. In particular, it is proved that every Conrad right-ordered group is embedded with preservation of order in a Conrad right-ordered group of Hahn type (i.e., a right-ordered group whose factors of jumps of convex subgroups are order isomorphic to the additive group ℝ); every right-ordered Smirnov group is embedded in a right-ordered Smirnov group of Hahn type; a new proof is given for the Holland–McCleary theorem on embedding every linearly ordered group in a linearly ordered group of Hahn type.  相似文献

For a continuous, increasing function ω: R → R \{0} of finite exponential type, this paper introduces the set Z(A, ω) of all x in a Banach space X for which the second order abstract differential equation (2) has a mild solution such that [ω(t)]-1u(t,x) is uniformly continues on R , and show that Z(A, ω) is a maximal Banach subspace continuously embedded in X, where A ∈ B(X) is closed. Moreover, A|z(A,ω) generates an O(ω(t))strongly continuous cosine operator function family.  相似文献

The question of which r.e. setsA possess major subsetsB which are alsor-maximal inA (Arm B) arose in attempts to extend Lachlan’s decision procedure for the αε-theory of ℰ*, the lattice of r.e. sets modulo finite sets, and Soare’s theorem thatA andB are automorphic if their lattice of supersets ℒ*(A) and ℒ*(B) are isomorphic finite Boolean algebras. We characterize the r.e. setsA with someBrm A as those with a Δ3 function that for each recursiveR i specifiesR i or as infinite on and to be preferred in the construction ofB. There are r.e.A andB with ℒ*(A) and ℒ*(B) isomorphic to the atomless Boolean algebra such thatA has anrm subset andB does not. Thus 〈ℰ*,A〉 and 〈ℰ*,B〉 are not even elementarily equivalent. In every non-zero r.e. degree there are r.e. sets with and withoutrm subsets. However the classF of degrees of simple sets with norm subsets satisfies . Let ℒ≔Δ/2+(∇φ/φ) ·∇ be a generalized Schr?dinger operator or generator of Nelsons diffusion, defined on C 0(D) where φ is a continuous and strictly positive function on an open domain D⊂ℝ d such that ∇φ∈L loc 2(D). Some results are given about the two questions below: (i) Whether does ℒ generate a unique semigroup in L 1(D, φ2 dx)? (ii) Whether the semigroup determined by ℒ is strong Feller? We consider weights of Muckenhoupt classA q, 1<q<∞. For a bounded Lipschitz domain Ω⊂ℝn we prove a compact embedding and a Poincaré inequality in weighted Sobolev spaces. These technical tools allow us to solve the weak Neumann problem for the Laplace equation in weighted spaces on ℝn, ℝn +, on bounded and on exterior domains Ω with boundary of classC 1, which will yield the Helmholtz decomposition ofL ω q(Ω)n for general ω∈A q. This is done by transferring the method of Simader and Sohr [4] to the weighted case. Our result generalizes a result of Farwig and Sohr [2] where the Helmholtz decomposition ofL ω p(Ω)n is proved for an exterior domain and weights of Muckenhoupt class without singularities or degeneracies in a neighbourhood of ϖΩ.

We give a criterion of invariance and symmetry of the restriction of an arbitrary unbounded self-adjoint operator in the space L 2(ℝn, dx) by using the introduced notion of support of an arbitrary vector and the notion of capacity of a subspace N ⊂ ℝn. Let M0 be the Minkowski space, let Λ2(M0) be the space of bivectors in M0, and let G1 ⊂ Λ2(M0) be the manifold of directions of the physical space, consisting of simple bivectors with square −1. A mapping F: U → Λ2(M0), U ⊂ ℝ4, satisfying the Maxwell equations is regarded as the tensor of an electromagnetic field in vacuum. The field is described on the basis of a special decomposition F = eω + h(*ω), where the mapping ω: U → G1 is called the direction of the field, and e: U → (0, +∞) and h: U → ℝ are the electric and magnetic coefficients of the field. The Maxwell equations are reformulated in terms of ω, e, and h. Electromagnetic fields whose set of directions is a point or a one-dimensional subset of G1 are considered. Let (P,≤) be a partially ordered set. The poset Boolean algebra of P, denoted F(P), is defined as follows: The set of generators of F(P) is {x p  : pP}, and the set of relations is {x p x q =x p  : pq}. We say that a Boolean algebra B is well-generated, if B has a sublattice G such that G generates B and (G,≤ B |G) is well-founded. A well-generated algebra is superatomic. THEOREM 1. Let (P,≤) be a partially ordered set. The following are equivalent. (i) P does not contain an infinite set of pairwise incomparable elements, and P does not contain a subset isomorphic to the chain of rational numbers, (ii) F(P) is superatomic, (iii) F(P) is well-generated. The equivalence (i) ⇔ (ii) is due to M. Pouzet. A partially ordered set W is well-ordered, if W does not contain a strictly decreasing infinite sequence, and W does not contain an infinite set of pairwise incomparable elements. THEOREM 2. Let F(P) be a superatomic poset algebra. Then there are a well-ordered set W and a subalgebra B of F(W), such that F(P) is a homomorphic image of B. This is similar but weaker than the fact that every interval algebra of a scattered chain is embeddable in an ordinal algebra. Remember that an interval algebra is a special case of a poset algebra. To each function ϕ˜(ω) mapping the upper complex half plane ?+ into itself such that the coefficient of ω in the Nevanlinna integral representation is one, we associate the kernel p(y, dx) of a Markov chain on ℝ by
The aim of this paper is to study this chain in terms of the measure μ appearing in the Nevanlinna representation of ϕ˜(ω). We prove in particular three results. If x 2 is integrable by μ, a law of large numbers is available. If μ is singular, i.e. if ϕ˜ is an inner function, then the operator P on L (ℝ) for the Lebesgue measure is the adjoint of T defined on L 1(ℝ) by T(f)(ω) = f(ϕ(ω)), where ϕ is the restriction of ϕ˜ to ℝ. Finally, if μ is both singular and with compact support, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for recurrence of the chain.  Suppose that f: ℝ nN →ℝ is a strictly convex energy density of linear growth, f(Z)=g(|Z|2) if N>1. If f satisfies an ellipticity condition of the form
then, following [Bi3], there exists a unique (up to a constant) solution of the variational problem
provided that the given boundary data u 0 W 1 1 (ω;ℝ N ) are additionally assumed to be of class L (ω;ℝ N ). Moreover, if μ<3, then the boundedness of u 0 yields local C 1,α-regularity (and uniqueness up to a constant) of generalized minimizers of the problem
In our paper we show that the restriction u 0L (ω;ℝ N ) is superfluous in the two dimensional case n=2, hence we may prescribe boundary values from the energy class W 1 1 (ω;ℝ N ) and still obtain the above results. We construct a totally disconnected ω*, norming subsetF of the unit ballB * of an arbitrary separable Banach space,X, and an operator fromC(F) toC(B*) that “amost” commutes with the natural embeddings ofX. This is used to give a new proof of Milutin's theorem and to prove some new results on complemented subspaces ofC[0, 1] with separable dual. In particular we show that a complemented subspace ofCω), is either isomorphic toCω) or toc u.  相似文献

We show that Hausdorff measures of different dimensions are not Borel isomorphic; that is, the measure spaces (ℝ, B, H s ) and (ℝ, B, H t ) are not isomorphic if st, s, t ∈ [0, 1], where B is the σ-algebra of Borel subsets of ℝ and H d is the d-dimensional Hausdorff measure. This answers a question of B. Weiss and D. Preiss. To prove our result, we apply a random construction and show that for every Borel function ƒ: ℝ → ℝ and for every d ∈ [0, 1] there exists a compact set C of Hausdorff dimension d such that ƒ(C) has Hausdorff dimension ≤ d. We also prove this statement in a more general form: If A ⊂ ℝn is Borel and ƒ: A → ℝm is Borel measurable, then for every d ∈ [0, 1] there exists a Borel set BA such that dim B = d·dim A and dim ƒ(B) ≤ d·dim ƒ (A). We study homotopy equivalences of p-completions of classifying spaces of finite groups. To each finite group G and each prime p, we associate a finite category ℒ p c (G) with the following properties. Two p-completed classifying spaces BG p and BG p have the same homotopy type if and only if the associated categories ℒ p c (G) and ℒ p c (G’) are equivalent. Furthermore, the topological monoid Aut(BG p ) of self equivalences is determined by the self equivalences of the associated category ℒ p c (G). Let ℋ be a separable infinite dimensional complex Hilbert space, and let ℒ(H) denote the algebra of all bounded linear operators on ℋ into itself. Let A = (A 1, A 2,..., A n), B = (B 1, B 2,..., B n) be n-tuples of operators in ℒ(H); we define the elementary operators Δ A,B : ℒ(H) ↦ ℒ(H) by
. In this paper, we characterize the class of pairs of operators A, B ∈ ℒ(H) satisfying Putnam-Fuglede’s property, i.e, the class of pairs of operators A,B ∈ ℒ(H) such that implies for all TC 1 (H) (trace class operators). The main result is the equivalence between this property and the fact that the ultraweak closure of the range of the elementary operator ΔA,B is closed under taking adjoints. This leads us to give a new characterization of the orthogonality (in the sense of Birkhoff) of the range of an elementary operator and its kernel in C 1 classes. We give a decomposition of the Hardy space Hz^1(Ω) into "div-curl" quantities for Lipschitz domains in R^n. We also prove a decomposition of Hz^1(Ω) into Jacobians det Du, u ∈ W0^1,2 (Ω,R^2) for Ω in R^2. This partially answers a well-known open problem.  相似文献

It is shown that ifX is an ℒ⫗ space with separable dual, thenX has a quotient isomorphic toC(ω)α if, and only if, there is anɛ >0, such that theɛ-Szlenk index ofX is at leastα. It was previously known, that ifX is a separable ℒ⫗ space with a non-separable dual, thenX has a quotient isomorphic toC[0, 1]. Research partially supported by NSF Grant MCS-74-07509-A03.  相似文献
