It is shown that the recently proposed method of studying the long-range correlations in multiparticle production can be effectively used to verify the hydrodynamic nature of the longitudinal expansion of the partonic system created in the collision. The case of ALICE detector is explicitly considered.  相似文献

A new method to study the long-range correlations in multiparticle production is developed. It is proposed to measure the joint factorial moments or cumulants of multiplicity distribution in several (more than two) bins. It is shown that this step dramatically increases the discriminative power of data.  相似文献

The physics of the initial conditions of heavy ion collisions is dominated by the nonlinear gluonic interactions of QCD. These lead to the concepts of parton saturation and the Color Glass Condensate (CGC). We discuss recent progress in calculating multigluon correlations in this framework, prompted by the observation that these correlations are in fact easier to compute in a dense system (nucleus–nucleus) than a dilute one (proton–proton).  相似文献

Studying nucleon-nucleon (NN) correlated pairs will teach us a great deal about the high momentum part of the nuclear wave function, the short range part of the NN interaction, and the nature of cold dense nuclear matter. These correlations are similar in all nuclei, differing only in magnitude.High momentum nucleons,p 〉p fermi, all have a correlated partner with approximately equal and opposite momentum. At pair relative momenta of 300 〈prel 〈500 MeV/c,these correlated pairs are dominated by tensor correlations. This is shown by the dominance of pn over pp pairs at pair total momentum and by the parity of pn to pp pairs at large pair total momentum.  相似文献

We analysed the scaling behaviour of the two-dimensional (2-D) sequence (Δs, Δt) of the 1981–1998 southern California seismicity, where Δs is the distance between two consecutive earthquakes (jump) and Δt is their interevent interval. The 2-D seismic spatio-temporal fluctuations were investigated by means of the detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA), well-known methodology used to detect scaling behaviour in observational time series possibly affected by nonstationarities. The estimated scaling exponents αDFA, larger than 0.5, indicate the presence of persistent long-range correlations in the 2-D sequence analysed. The variation of the scaling exponent with the increase of threshold magnitude shows a two-fold behaviour: in the range between 1.5 (the completeness magnitude of the catalog) and 3.0, the scaling exponent is quite constant and denoting a flicker-noise dynamics; while for magnitudes larger than 3.0 it decreases with the increase of magnitude, indicating a tendency toward a 2-D space–time Poissonian process for large events.  相似文献

Many natural time series exhibit long range temporal correlations that may be characterized by power-law scaling exponents. However, in many cases, the time series have uneven time intervals due to, for example, missing data points, noisy data, and outliers. Here we study the effect of randomly missing data points on the power-law scaling exponents of time series that are long range temporally correlated. The Fourier transform and detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) techniques are used for scaling exponent estimation. We find that even under extreme dilution of more than 50%, the value of the scaling exponent remains almost unaffected. Random dilution is also applied on heart interbeat interval time series. It is found that dilution of 70%-80% of the data points leads to a reduction of only 8% in the scaling exponent; it is also found that it is possible to discriminate between healthy and heart failure subjects even under extreme dilution of more than 90%.  相似文献

I discuss novel QCD phenomena recently observed in p+p, p+A and A+A collisions, that result from the non-linear dynamics of small-x gluons. I focus on di-hadron correlation measurements, as opposed to single-hadron observables often too inclusive to distinguish possible new effects from established mechanisms. Specifically, I discuss angular correlations of forward di-hadrons in d+Au collisions and long-range rapidity correlations in high-multiplicity p+p and Au+Au collisions.  相似文献

Nuclear collision experiments exhibit correlations peaked in relative azimuthal angle with a long range in rapidity. Called the ridge, this peak occurs both with and without a jet trigger. We argue that the energy and projectile-mass dependence of the ridge can be described by an early Glasma stage followed by hydrodynamic flow.  相似文献

We show with simple arguments that, as a consequence of the Poisson equation, the correlations of a charged system at equilibrium decay faster than any inverse power, if they are integrable and monotonous at infinity. For all other longrange systems (with potential(x)b¦x¦s , ¦x¦ , 0v,s} 2), the decay is bounded below by an inverse power.Partially supported by the Swiss National Foundation for Scientific Research.  相似文献

We analyze long range rapidity correlations observed in the STAR experiment at RHIC. Our goal is to extract properties of the two particle correlation matrix, accounting for the analysis method of the STAR experiment. We find a surprisingly large correlation strength for central collisions of gold nuclei at highest RHIC energies. We argue that such correlations cannot be the result of impact parameter fluctuations.  相似文献

Detecting long-range correlations in time series of neuronal discharges   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

We have studied the discharge dynamics of dorsal horn neurons (DHN) by applying the detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) and the wavelet transform (WT) technique. We have adopted that discharge dynamics is manifested by the random time series of the interspike intervals (ISI), that is, by intervals between two consecutive neuronal electrical activities. In all cases studied, we found two different power-law type behaviors across ISI enumeration scale, that are separated by a crossover region. Our results reveal that complex neuronal dynamics may change in the presence of external stimulation, which is manifested by changing the noise characteristics that appear before the crossover region (the noise after the crossover region is of the 1/f type).  相似文献

The study of correlations and fluctuations can provide evidence for the production of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Various theories predict that the production of a QGP phase in relativistic heavy-ion collisions could produce significant event-by-event correlations and fluctuations in transverse momentum, multiplicity, etc. Some of the recent results using STAR at RHIC will be presented along with results from other experiments at RHIC. The focus is on forward-backward multiplicity correlations, balance function, charge and transverse-momentum fluctuations, and correlations.  相似文献

Small-angle correlations of pairs of protons emitted in central collisions of Ca + Ca, Ru + Ru and Au + Au at beam energies from 400 to 1500MeV per nucleon are investigated with the FOPI detector system at SIS/GSI Darmstadt. Dependences on system size and beam energy are presented which extend the experimental data basis of pp correlations in the SIS energy range substantially. The size of the proton-emitting source is estimated by comparing the experimental data with the output of a final-state interaction model which utilizes either static Gaussian sources or the one-body phase-space distribution of protons provided by the BUU transport approach. The trends in the experimental data, i.e. system size and beam energy dependences, are well reproduced by this hybrid model. However, the pp correlation function is found rather insensitive to the stiffness of the equation of state entering the transport model calculations.  相似文献

We study the RHIC data on long range rapidity correlations, comparing their main trends with different string model simulations. Particular attention is paid to color percolation model and its similarities with color glass condensate. As both approaches corresponds, at high density, to a similar physical picture, both of them give rise to a similar behavior on the energy and the centrality of the main observables. Color percolation explains the transition from low density to high density.  相似文献

Long-ranged, or power-law, behavior of correlation functions in both space and time is discussed for classical systems and for quantum systems at finite temperature, and is compared with the corresponding behavior in quantum systems at zero temperature. The origin of the long-ranged correlations is explained in terms of soft modes. In general, correlations at zero temperature are of longer range than their finite-temperature or classical counterparts. This phenomenon is due to additional soft modes that exist at zero temperature.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss the existence of generic long-range correlations in spatially homogeneous and stable equilibrium states of closed lattice gas automata whose stochastic collision rules violate the symmetry conditions of detailed balance and in addition satisfy local conservation laws. Such correlations occur even though the collision rules are strictly local and invariant under all symmetries of the lattice. First a phenomenological (Langevin equation) approach is discussed. Next we present a theoretical analysis on the basis of an approximate microscopic (ring kinetic) theory. This theory is used to calculate the amplitude ofr tails in the spatial correlations, and the result is compared with computer simulations.  相似文献

The short-range correlation between nucleons in finite nuclei is investigated in high energy protonnucleus and α-nucleus elastic scattering in the framework of Glauber multiple scattering theory without any free parameters. The effects on the p-^4He and ^4He-^12C elastic scattering, and in particular on the proton elastic scattering off hallo-like nuclei, ^6,8He, are estimated. Our calculations show that the short-range correlations play an important role in reproducing experimental data and could be also thought of as being possible origin and nature of halo-like phenomena in the nuclear structure. More accurate calculations along this line are needed.  相似文献

Several characteristics of fission accompanied by long range alpha particles (LRA) have been studied in the thermal neutron induced fission of235U. The kinetic energies of fission fragments and the LRA were measured with a back-to-back ionization chamber and semiconductor detectors respectively. The kinetic energies of the two fragments and the LRA in LRA fission, along with the energies of pair fragments in the normal binary fissions, were recorded event by event on a magnetic tape by means of a four-parameter data acquisition system. The data were analysed to study the dependence of different quantities in LRA fission on the fragment mass ratio, LRA energy and the total kinetic energy of the fission fragments. It is seen that the most probable energy of LRA increases significantly for near symmetric mass divisions. The total kinetic energy for all mass ratios in LRA fission is found to be (2.6±0.7) MeV larger than that in binary fission. The difference in the total kinetic energies in LRA and binary fissions is seen to be dependent on mass ratio. This result may suggest that the scission configuration in LRA fission is different for different mass ratios. Correlations between the fission fragment and LRA energies have been studied for several mass ratios. It is seen that the most probable fragment kinetic energyĒ k varies nearly linearly with the LRA energyE a for various mass divisions but the variation of the most probable LRA energyĒ a with fragment kinetic energyE k is found to deviate from linearity for several mass ratios. From a least square fit to the variation ofĒ k withE a it is found that the slope ( k/dEa) increases with the increase in mass ratio. The present results are discussed to arrive at a better understanding of the scission configuration in the fission accompanied by LRA emission.  相似文献
