Light scattering and luminescence under resonant optical excitation are shown to correspond to an interference fringe and broad background, respectively, in an optical interference experiment, if suitable definitions for the above two processes are adopted. It is proposed to discriminate between these two by a polarization measurement which is analogous to an interference experiment. The results of such an experiment in ZnSe and ZnTe are also reported. 相似文献

Recently it was suggested that an experiment by Mikhailov should be reproduced to confirm the existence of magnetic charge on ferromagnetic aerosols. At the present time, there is controversy about the results of Mikhailov's experiment in regard to a reanalysis by Akers. In this paper, a new formalism of a combined tracer and interdiffusion experiment for a binary interdiffusion couple is developed. The analysis requires an interdiffusion couple that initially contains a thin layer of tracers of one or both of the constituent elements at the original interface of the couple (sandwich interdiffusion experiment). This type of interdiffusion experiment was first performed in 1958 by J.R. Manning. The theoretical analysis presented in this paper is based on a newly developed phenomenological theory of isotopic interdiffusion combined with the Boltzmann–Matano formalism. This new analysis now provides the means to obtain the composition dependent interdiffusion coefficient and tracer diffusion coefficients simultaneously from analysis of the interdiffusion and tracer profiles in a single sandwich interdiffusion experiment. The new analysis is successfully applied to the results of Manning’s original ‘sandwich interdiffusion’ experiment in the Ag–Cd system (six couples in total) and is validated with an independent determination of the Ag and Cd tracer diffusion coefficients by Schoen using the conventional thin film technique. Suggestions for further development of the sandwich interdiffusion experiment and analysis to the case of multicomponent alloys are provided. 相似文献

Empty-wave theories have been with us for almost a century as part of the effort to find a causal interpretation of quantum mechanics. Several experiments were proposed with the aim of detecting these waves or their effect. It may be that the most known experiment concerning this issue is that of Wang, Zou, and Mandel. The experiment achieved negative results. In the following we wish to emphasize that the latter experiment has not confronted the full range of possible empty-wave models. In fact, to our mind, it made use of an auxiliary assumption that is far from warranted. If such an assumption is not made, this experiment, and all other experiments of its kind, are not able to detect the effects of the conjectured empty waves. We wish to put an emphasis on this assumption as a pointer indicating the direction in which new models should be searched for. 相似文献

The paper contains a discussion on two kinds of coincidence experiments. First, a standard two-photon coincidence experiment is considered and it is shown that its outcomes are incompatible with any classical radiation theory because of the role of the state vector reduction phenomenon in such an experiment. In the second part of the paper a proposed new kind of photon coincidence experiment is discussed. The classical and quantum predictions for the outcomes of this experiment differ dramatically and therefore the experiment should constitute a new limitation to the classical radiation theories. The structure of an isolated, Ga terminated, 30 degree partial dislocation in GaAs:Be is determined by high resolution transmission electron microscopes and focal series reconstruction. The positions of atomic columns in the core region are measured to an accuracy of better than 10 pm. A quantitative comparison of the structure predicted by an ab initio electronic structure total energy calculation to the experiment indicates that theory and experiment agree to within 20 pm. Further analysis shows the deviations between theory and experiment appear to be systematic. Electron energy loss spectroscopy establishes that defects segregate to the core region, thus accounting for the systematic deviations. 相似文献

A thought experiment is reviewed which shows two things. First, in a region of a rotating frame that is not simply connected, the inertial forces can be canceled without completely canceling the inertial vector potential (whose curl determines the Coriolis force); second, the presence of this uncanceled potential can be detected in a quantum interference experiment. It is then argued that the thought experiment was realized in an earlier experiment involving a rotating superconductor, and that the experimental results confirm the theoretical prediction. In this way, the first experimental verification of a physical effect due to a nonelectromagnetic potential in a force-free region is established. An analogous experiment for the gravitational vector potential is also discussed. Finally, it is pointed out that the close connection between electromagnetic and inertial vector potentials provides an intuitive way to make predictions about rotating superconductors. 相似文献

We have recently introduced double-quantum homonuclear correlation NMR experiment for half-integer quadrupolar nuclei in solids, which was based on rotary resonance recoupling [J. Chem. Phys. 120 (2004) 2835]. In this contribution we show on two 23Na (I=3/2) containing samples, Na2SO4 and Na2HPO4, that the efficiency of the experiment can be substantially enhanced by adding rotor assisted population transfer (RAPT) and Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) sequences to it. We also present an upgraded two-dimensional experiment, in which double- and six-quantum coherences are correlated during t1 evolution period, yielding a high-resolution isotropic spectrum along an indirectly detected dimension. The sensitivity of the upgraded experiment is, however, greatly reduced compared to the sensitivity of the original experiment, so that its application is feasible only when RAPT and CPMG can be used as well. 相似文献
