The turbulent flow of vertical plane wall plume with concentration variation was studied with the finite analytical method. The k-epsilon model with the effect of buoyancy on turbulent kinetic energy and its dissipation rate was adopted. There were similarity solutions in the uniform environment for the system of equations including the equation of continuity, the equation of momentum along the flow direction and concentration, and equations of k, epsilon. The finite analytic method was applied to obtain the similarity solution. The calculated data of velocity, relative density difference, the kinetic energy of turbulence and its dissipation rate distribution for vertical plane plumes are in good agreement with the experimental data at the turbulent Schmidt number equal to 1.0. The variations of their maximum value along the direction of main flow were also given. It shows that the present model is good, i.e., the effect of buoyancy on turbulent kinetic energy and its dissipation rate should be taken into account, and the finite analytic method is effective.  相似文献

A higher‐order finite analytic scheme based on one‐dimensional finite analytic solutions is used to discretize three‐dimensional equations governing turbulent incompressible free surface flow. In order to preserve the accuracy of the numerical scheme, a new, finite analytic boundary condition is proposed for an accurate numerical solution of the partial differential equation. This condition has higher‐order accuracy. Thus, the same order of accuracy is used for the boundary. Boundary conditions were formulated and derived for fluid inflow, outflow, impermeable surfaces and symmetry planes. The derived boundary conditions are treated implicitly and updated with the solution of the problem. The basic idea for the derivation of boundary conditions was to use the discretized form of the governing equations for the fluid flow simplified on the boundaries and flow information. To illustrate the influence of the higher‐order effects at the boundaries, another, lower‐order finite analytic boundary condition, is suggested. The simulations are performed to demonstrate the validity of the present scheme and boundary conditions for a Wigley hull advancing in calm water. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We present a finite element (FE) formulation of Lighthill's acoustic analogy for the hybrid computation of noise generated by turbulent flows. In the present approach, the flow field is computed using large eddy simulation and scale adaptive simulation turbulence models. The acoustic propagation is obtained by solving the variational formulation of Lighthill's acoustic analogy with the FE method. In order to preserve the acoustic energy, we compute the inhomogeneous part of Lighthill's wave equation by applying the FE formulation on the fine flow grid. The resulting acoustic nodal loads are then conservatively interpolated to the coarser acoustic grid. Subsequently, the radiated acoustic field can be solved in both time and frequency domains. In the latter case, an enhanced perfectly matched layer technique is employed, allowing one to truncate the computational domain in the acoustic near field, without compromising the numerical solution. Our hybrid approach is validated by comparing the numerical results of the acoustic field induced by a corotating vortex pair with the corresponding analytical solution. To demonstrate the applicability of our scheme, we present full 3D numerical results for the computed acoustic field generated by the turbulent flow around square cylinder geometries. The sound pressure levels obtained compare well with measured values. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A semi-analytic solution of the temperature development of single-phase, turbulent viscous flows inside smooth round tubes is performed. The special feature of the theoretical analysis revolves around two single universal functions of analytic form for the accurate characterization of the turbulent diffusivity of momentum and the turbulent velocity profile in the entire cross-section of a round tube. Using this valuable information that emanates from the analytic solution of the one-dimensional momentum balance equation, the two-dimensional energy balance equation was reformulated into an adjoint system of ordinary differential equations of first–order with constant coefficients. Each equation in the system of differential equations governs the axial variation of the average temperature of a finite volume of fluid of annular shape. Exploiting the linearity of the system of differential equations, an analytic solution of it was obtained via the matrix eigenvalue method with LAPACK, a library of Fortran 77 subroutines for numerical linear algebra. Reliable series have been determined for the axial variation of the two thermal quantities of importance: (a) the time-mean bulk temperature and (b) the local Nusselt number. The semi-analytic nature of the local Nusselt number distribution is advantageous because it may be viewed as an analytic-based correlation equation. Prediction of the local Nusselt numbers for turbulent air flows compare satisfactorily with the comprehensive correlation equations and the abundant experimental data that are accessible from the literature. The air flows are regulated by a wide spectrum of turbulent Reynolds numbers. Received on 4 June 2001 RID="★" ID="★" Current address Mechanical Engineering Dept. This paper presents a numerical method for simulating turbulent flows via coupling the Boltzmann BGK equation with Spalart–Allmaras one equation turbulence model. Both the Boltzmann BGK equation and the turbulence model equation are carried out using the finite volume method on unstructured meshes, which is different from previous works on structured grid. The application of the gas‐kinetic scheme is extended to the simulation of turbulent flows with arbitrary geometries. The adaptive mesh refinement technique is also adopted to reduce the computational cost and improve the efficiency of meshes. To organize the unstructured mesh data structure efficiently, a non‐manifold hybrid mesh data structure is extended for polygonal cells. Numerical experiments are performed on incompressible flow over a smooth flat plate and compressible turbulent flows around a NACA 0012 airfoil using unstructured hybrid meshes. These numerical results are found to be in good agreement with experimental data and/or other numerical solutions, demonstrating the applicability of the proposed method to simulate both subsonic and transonic turbulent flows. Fully developed turbulent pipe flow at low Re-number is studied by means of direct numerical simulation (DNS). In contrast to many previous DNS's of turbulent flows in rectangular geometries, the present DNS code, developed for a cylindrical geometry, is based on the finite volume technique rather than being based on a spectral method. The statistical results are compared with experimental data obtained with two different experimental techniques. The agreement between numerical and experimental results is found to be good which indicates that the present DNS code is suited for this kind of numerical simulations.  相似文献

The numerical solution of a single first-order conservation equation by a least-squares finite element method is considered. Isoparametric bilinear quadrilateral elements are used. The accuracy is studied numerically and it is shown that the discrete equations associated with nodal points on the boundaries should be modified in order to obtain an accurate numerical solution.  相似文献

A relatively simple, yet efficient and accurate finite difference method is developed for the solution of the unsteady boundary layer equations for both laminar and turbulent flows. The numerical procedure is subjected to rigorous validation tests in the laminar case, comparing its predictions with exact analytical solutions, asymptotic solutions, and/or experimental results. Calculations of periodic laminar boundary layers are performed from low to very high oscillation frequencies, for small and large amplitudes, for zero as well as adverse time-mean pressure gradients, and even in the presence of significant flow reversal. The numerical method is then applied to predict a relatively simple experimental periodic turbulent boundary layer, using two well-known quasi-steady closure models. The predictions are shown to be in good agreement with the measurements, thereby demonstrating the suitability of the present numerical scheme for handling periodic turbulent boundary layers. The method is thus a useful tool for the further development of turbulence models for more complex unsteady flows.  相似文献

A three‐dimensional baroclinic numerical model has been developed to compute water levels and water particle velocity distributions in coastal waters. The numerical model consists of hydrodynamic, transport and turbulence model components. In the hydrodynamic model component, the Navier–Stokes equations are solved with the hydrostatic pressure distribution assumption and the Boussinesq approximation. The transport model component consists of the pollutant transport model and the water temperature and salinity transport models. In this component, the three‐dimensional convective diffusion equations are solved for each of the three quantities. In the turbulence model, a two‐equation k–ϵ formulation is solved to calculate the kinetic energy of the turbulence and its rate of dissipation, which provides the variable vertical turbulent eddy viscosity. Horizontal eddy viscosities can be simulated by the Smagorinsky algebraic sub grid scale turbulence model. The solution method is a composite finite difference–finite element method. In the horizontal plane, finite difference approximations, and in the vertical plane, finite element shape functions are used. The governing equations are solved implicitly in the Cartesian co‐ordinate system. The horizontal mesh sizes can be variable. To increase the vertical resolution, grid clustering can be applied. In the treatment of coastal land boundaries, the flooding and drying processes can be considered. The developed numerical model predictions are compared with the analytical solutions of the steady wind driven circulatory flow in a closed basin and of the uni‐nodal standing oscillation. Furthermore, model predictions are verified by the experiments performed on the wind driven turbulent flow of an homogeneous fluid and by the hydraulic model studies conducted on the forced flushing of marinas in enclosed seas. A Hermitian–Fourier numerical method for solving the Navier–Stokes equations with one non‐homogeneous direction had been presented by Schiestel and Viazzo (Internat. J. Comput. Fluids 1995; 24 (6):739). In the present paper, an extension of the method is devised for solving problems with two non‐homogeneous directions. This extension is indeed not trivial since new algorithms will be necessary, in particular for pressure calculation. The method uses Hermitian finite differences in the non‐periodic directions whereas Fourier pseudo‐spectral developments are used in the remaining periodic direction. Pressure–velocity coupling is solved by a simplified Poisson equation for the pressure correction using direct method of solution that preserves Hermitian accuracy for pressure. The turbulent flow after a backward facing step has been used as a test case to show the capabilities of the method. The applications in view are mainly concerning the numerical simulation of turbulent and transitional flows. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

An accurate, fast, matrix-free implicit method has been developed to solve compressible turbulent How problems using the Spalart and Allmaras one equation turbulence model on unstructured meshes. The mean-flow and turbulence-model equations are decoupled in the time integration in order to facilitate the incorporation of different turbulence models and reduce memory requirements. Both mean flow and turbulent equations are integrated in time using a linearized implicit scheme. A recently developed, fast, matrix-free implicit method, GMRES+LU-SGS, is then applied to solve the resultant system of linear equations. The spatial discretization is carried out using a hybrid finite volume and finite element method, where the finite volume approximation based on a containment dual control volume rather than the more popular median-dual control volume is used to discretize the inviscid fluxes, and the finite element approximation is used to evaluate the viscous flux terms. The developed method is used to compute a variety of turbulent flow problems in both 2D and 3D. The results obtained are in good agreement with theoretical and experimental data and indicate that the present method provides an accurate, fast, and robust algorithm for computing compressible turbulent flows on unstructured meshes.  相似文献

We describe a numerical method for solving the Serre equations that can simulate flows over dry bathymetry. The method solves the Serre equations in conservation law form with a finite volume method. A finite element method is used to solve the auxiliary elliptic equation for the depth‐averaged horizontal velocity. The numerical method is validated against the lake at rest analytic solution, demonstrating that it is well‐balanced. Since there are currently no known nonstationary analytical solutions to the Serre equation that involve bathymetry, a nonstationary forced solution, involving bathymetry was developed. The method was further validated and its convergence rate established using the developed nonstationary forced solution containing the wetting and drying of bathymetry. Finally, the method is also validated against experimental results for the run‐up of a solitary wave on a sloped beach. The finite‐volume finite‐element approach to solving the Serre equation was found to be accurate and robust.  相似文献

The paper is concerned with a grid adaptation approach based on a moving mesh partial differential equation. A method is proposed for discretizing this equation with a cell-centred finite volume method so that solution-dependent relocation of a fixed number of grid points without changing their topology becomes available as an attractive add-on for many finite volume solvers. Several interpolation strategies to determine appropriate cell corners from moved cell centre points are discussed and compared to each other. For a turbulent hill flow, numerical results are presented for two-dimensional adaptation based on an equidistribution of the gradient of the streamwise velocity and the production of turbulent kinetic energy.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to present a new numerical method to compute turbulent flows in complex configurations. With this in view, a k-? model with wall functions has been introduced in a mixed finite volume/finite element method. The numerical method has been developed to deal with compressible flows but is also able to compute nearly incompressible flows. The physical model and the numerical method are first described, then validation results for an incompressible flow over a backward-facing step and for a supersonic flow over a compression ramp are presented. Comparisons are performed with experimental data and with other numerical results. These simulations show the ability of the present method to predict turbulent flows, and this method will be applied to simulate complex industrial flows (flow inside the combustion chamber of gas turbine engines). The main goal of this paper is not to test turbulence models, but to show that this numerical method is a solid base to introduce more sophisticated turbulence model.  相似文献

The partial differential equation of the boundary layer on a flat plate are simplified by using the universal variables for turbulent flow. For laminar flow this gives boundary layer having a finite thickness and a friction coefficient differing by a few percent from the Blasius value. For a turbulent flow a differential equation for the velocity distribution is obtained with a parameter which varies slowly with the streamwise coordinate. The numerical value of this parameter is determined as an eigenvalue of the differential equations giving a velocity profile which evolves as the boundary layer thickens. Numerical calculations using a simple eddy viscosity model gave results in very good agreement with experiment.  相似文献

A numerical analysis is made of incompressible transient turbulent flow heat transfer between two parallel plates when there is a step jump in space along the channel in wall heat flux or wall temperature. The variation of the fluid velocity and effective diffusivity over the channel cross section are accounted for. The fluid is assumed to have a fully-developed turbulent velocity profile throughout the length of the channel. The thermal responses of the system are obtained by solving energy equation for air by a digital computer. The results are presented in graphical forms. The stability of the finite difference solution is studied and condition for the stability of the difference solution is derived. A method is given to obtain velocity distributions from the distribution of turbulent eddy diffusivity of momentum. Variations of Nusselt numbers are obtained as a function of time and space. Steady-state values are also given and compared with the published results.  相似文献

This article develops a parallel large-eddy simulation (LES) with a one-equation subgrid-scale (SGS) model based on the Galerkin finite element method and three-dimensional (3D) brick elements. The governing filtered Navier–Stokes equations were solved by a second-order accurate fractional-step method, which decomposed the implicit velocity–pressure coupling in incompressible flow and segregated the solution to the advection and diffusion terms. The transport equation for the SGS turbulent kinetic energy was solved to calculate the SGS processes. This FEM LES model was applied to study the turbulence of the benchmark open channel flow at a Reynolds number Reτ = 180 (based on the friction velocity and channel height) using different model constants and grid resolutions. By comparing the turbulence statistics calculated by the current model with those obtained from direct numerical simulation (DNS) and experiments in literature, an optimum set of model constants for the current FEM LES model was established. The budgets of turbulent kinetic energy and vertical Reynolds stress were then analysed for the open channel flow. Finally, the flow structures were visualised to further reveal some important characteristics. It was demonstrated that the current model with the optimum model constants can predict well the organised structure near the wall and free surface, and can be further applied to other fundamental and engineering applications.  相似文献
