Reliable validation based on optical flow visualization for CFD simulations   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A reliable validation based on the optical flow visualization for numerical simulations of complex flowfields is addressed in this paper. Several test cases, including two-dimensional, axisymmetric and three-dimensional flowfields, were presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the validation and gain credibility of numerical solutions of complex flowfields. In the validation, images of these flowfields were constructed from numerical results based on the principle of the optical flow visualization, and compared directly with experimental interferograms. Because both experimental and numerical results are of identical physical representation, the agreement between them can be evaluated effectively by examining flow structures as well as checking discrepancies in density. The study shows that the reliable validation can be achieved by using the direct comparison between numerical and experiment results without any loss of accuracy in either of them.  相似文献

We present an experimental benchmark database for the transitional cavity flow. The database is obtained by planar Particle Image Velocimetry measurements at the median plane of the cavity model, for Reynolds numbers between 6300 and 19,000 based on the cavity height. A detailed uncertainty analysis of the experimental results is performed via the correlation statistics method for PIV uncertainty quantification and linear error propagation.The experimental results are compared to two-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) numerical simulations with different turbulence models. It is shown that, when the standard k-ω turbulence model is employed, the discrepancy between numerical simulations and experimental results exceeds the uncertainty of the latter. Conversely, RANS simulations with the SST k-ω turbulence model agree well with the experimental data in terms of time-averaged flow properties; however, the turbulent kinetic energy results present significant discrepancies at all considered Reynolds numbers. 针对超声速复杂流动区域精确模拟的需要,发展了基于k-ω可压缩修正形式的非线性显式代数雷诺应力模式(EASM),提高了该模式对超声速复杂流动的数值模拟精度。通过对二维超声速凹槽和三维双椭球的数值计算表明,与SA和SST常规线性涡黏性湍流模式比较,非线性的EASM模式对大分离以及剪切层流动结构的刻画能力更精细,对剪切层再附区的压力及摩擦系数分布模拟更加精确;EASM模式能够准确地模拟二次激波引起的压强和热流分布情况。  相似文献

In the current study, the unsteady flow in a centrifugal fan is carried out using Computational Fluid Dynamics calculation based on the Scale Adaptive Simulation (SAS) approach to model the turbulence phenomenon. The SAS concept is based on the introduction of the von Karman length scale into the turbulence scale equation. The information provided by the von Karman length scale allows SAS models to dynamically adjust to resolved structures in an Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes (URANS) simulation, which results in a Large Eddy Simulation-like behaviour in unsteady regions of the flow field. At the same time, the model provides standard RANS capabilities in stable flow regions. The introduction of the von Karman length scale is based on the reformulation of Rottas's equation for the integral length scale. To validate the numerical results, the overall performances of the fan and the wall pressure fluctuations computed upon the volute casing surface are compared with the unsteady measured data.  相似文献

The suitability of Wilcox's 2006 kω turbulence model for scramjet flowfield simulations is demonstrated by validation against five test cases that have flowfields representative of those to be expected in scramjets. The five test cases include a 2D flat plate, an axisymmetric cylinder, a backward‐facing step, the mixing of a pair of coaxial jets and the interaction between a shock wave and turbulent boundary layer. A generally good agreement between the numerical and experimental results is obtained for all test cases. These tests reveal that despite the turbulence model's sensitivity to freestream turbulence properties, the numerically predicted skin friction agrees with experimental data and theoretical correlations to their degree of uncertainty. The tests also confirm the importance of using a y+ value of less than 1 in getting accurate surface heat transfer distributions. In the coaxial jets case, the importance of matching the turbulence intensities at the inflow plane in improving the predictions of the turbulent mixing phenomena is also shown. A review of guidelines with regard to the setting up of grids and specification of freestream turbulence properties for turbulent Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes CFD simulations is also included in this paper. This paper presents an evaluation of the capability of turbulence models available in the commercial CFD code FLUENT 6.0 for their application to hydrofoil turbulent boundary layer separation flow at high Reynolds numbers. Four widely applied two‐equation RANS turbulence models were assessed through comparison with experimental data at Reynolds numbers of 8.284×106 and 1.657×107. They were the standard k–εmodel, the realizable k–εmodel, the standard k–ωmodel and the shear‐stress‐transport (SST) k–ωmodel. It has found that the realizable k–εturbulence model used with enhanced wall functions and near‐wall modelling techniques, consistently provides superior performance in predicting the flow characteristics around the hydrofoil. Results of a numerical study of three-dimensional supersonic jets propagating in a cocurrent flow are described. Averaged parabolized Navier-Stokes equations are solved numerically on the basis of a developed scheme, which allows calculations in supersonic and subsonic flow regions to be performed in a single manner. A jet flow with a cocurrent flow Mach number 0.05 ⩽ M ⩽ 7.00 is studied, and its effect on the structure of the mixing layer is demonstrated. Air‐breathing propulsion systems for high‐speed space travel applications are studied. Ramjets and scramjets have been identified as potential candidates. The flow inlets of such systems are modelled with a simulation that can predict all complex inlet flow features, including shock due to forebody, multiple shock reflections, normal shock, shock–boundary layer interaction and associated separation for two‐dimensional and axisymmetric inlets. The growth of two-dimensional disturbances generated in a supersonic (M = 6) boundary layer on a flat plate by a periodic perturbation of the injection/suction type is investigated on the basis of a numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations. For small initial perturbation amplitudes, the second-mode growth rate obtained from the numerical modeling coincides with the growth rate calculated using linear theory with account for the non-parallelism of the main flow. The effect of the temperature factor, that is, the ratio of the body temperature to the freestream stagnation temperature, on the structure of the separated flow formed in the presence of a concave corner in a supersonic stream is studied. The strong influence of the temperature factor on the separation zone length and the flow-generated aerodynamic characteristics is established. It is shown that for fairly large deflection angles this flow cannot be described by free interaction, or triple deck, theory.  相似文献

Numerical simulation of a two‐dimensional mixed compression supersonic inlet is carried out by solving unsteady compressible Euler equations via a stabilized finite element method. The geometry of the inlet is similar to the one used by Anderson and Wong for experimental investigation for Mach 3 flow. The computations are capable of simulating the start‐up problems associated with the inlet. The critical back pressure for the successful operation of the inlet is computed. The effect of inlet back pressure on the total pressure recovery and the flow distortion level is analysed. Contrary to the popular belief, it is found that in addition to the throat to inlet capture area ratio, the ramp geometry close to the throat plays an important role in the start‐up dynamics. It is demonstrated via simulations that, everything else being same, the geometries of ramp upstream of the throat that are associated with a curvature higher than a certain threshold, result in unstarting the intake. In transonic flow conditions, the shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction and flow separations on wing upper surface induce flow instabilities, ‘buffet’, and then the buffeting (structure vibrations). This phenomenon can greatly influence the aerodynamic performance. These flow excitations are self‐sustained and lead to a surface effort due to pressure fluctuations. They can produce enough energy to excite the structure. The objective of the present work is to predict this unsteady phenomenon correctly by using unsteady Navier–Stokes‐averaged equations with a time‐dependent turbulence model based on the suitable (kε) turbulent eddy viscosity model. The model used is based on the turbulent viscosity concept where the turbulent viscosity coefficient () is related to local deformation and rotation rates. To validate this model, flow over a flat plate at Mach number of 0.6 is first computed, then the flow around a NACA0012 airfoil. The comparison with the analytical and experimental results shows a good agreement. The ONERA OAT15A transonic airfoil was chosen to describe buffeting phenomena. Numerical simulations are done by using a Navier–Stokes SUPG (streamline upwind Petrov–Galerkin) finite‐element solver. Computational results show the ability of the present model to predict physical phenomena of the flow oscillations. The unsteady shock wave/boundary layer interaction is described. The receptivity of a supersonic (M = 6) boundary layer on a flat plate to acoustic disturbances is investigated on the basis of a numerical solution of the 2D Navier-Stokes equations. Numerical results obtained for fast and slow acoustic waves impinging on the plate at zero angle agree qualitatively with asymptotic theory. Calculations carried out for other angles of incidence of the acoustic waves reveal new features of the perturbation field in the neighborhood of the leading edge of the plate. It is shown that, due to visco-inviscid interaction, the shock formed near the leading edge may significantly affect the acoustic field and the receptivity.  相似文献

Stability of a supersonic (M = 5.373) boundary layer with local separation in a compression corner with a passive porous coating partly absorbing flow perturbations is considered by solving two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations numerically. The second mode of disturbances of a supersonic boundary layer is demonstrated to be the most important one behind the boundary-layer reattachment point. The gap effect is a key factor in the design of the heat sealing in supersonic vehicles subjected to an aerodynamic heat load. Built on S-A turbulence model and Roe discrete format, the aerodynamic environment around a gap on the surface of a supersonic aircraft was simulated by the finite volume method. As the presented results indicate, the gap effect depends not only on the attack angle, but also on the Mach number.  相似文献

The developing weakly turbulent regime of mixed convection in a uniformly heated horizontal pipe was first studied experimentally, by means of heat transfer measurements in the following ranges of dimensionless numbers: 3.19 < Re × 10? 3 < 6.39, 1.80 < Gr h  × 10? 8 < 4.20. The working fluid was FC-72?, with Pr = 12.4.

In order to gain a better insight into the thermo-fluid dynamics involved in the phenomenon and obtain the velocity and temperature fields at every point of the fluid domain, numerical simulations were performed by means of commercial software. Turbulence was modelled by using the Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes equations (RANS) approach. Two closures of the governing equations were evaluated: realizable κ–? (RKE) model and renormalization-group κ–? (RNG) model.

Both models were capable of reproducing the observed physical trends. However, deviations from the experimental data lower than 20% were obtained only in the entry-zone with the RKE model, while the RNG model gave fair predictions only in developed or quasi-developed flow.  相似文献
