Let be a real -algebra of -real bounded operators containing no central summand of type in a complex Hilbert space with conjugation . Denote by the quantum logic of all -orthogonal projections in the von Neumann algebra . Let be a probability measure. It is shown that contains a finite central summand and there exists a normal finite trace on such that , .

     

A twistor correspondence and Penrose transform for odd-dimensional hyperbolic space

For odd-dimensional hyperbolic space , we construct transforms between the cohomology of certain line bundles on (a twistor space for ) and eigenspaces of the Laplacian and of the Dirac operator on . The transforms are isomorphisms. As a corollary we obtain that every eigenfunction of or on extends as a holomorphic eigenfunction of the corresponding holomorphic operator on a certain region of the complexification of . We also obtain vanishing theorems for the cohomology of a class of line bundles on .

     

Common operator properties of the linear operators

Let and be bounded linear operators defined on Banach spaces, , . When , then the operators and have many basic operator properties in common. This situation is studied in this paper.

Some results on finite Drinfeld modules

Let be a global function field, a degree one prime divisor of and let be the Dedekind domain of functions in regular outside . Let be the Hilbert class field of , the integral closure of in . Let be a rank one normalized Drinfeld -module and let be a prime ideal in . We explicitly determine the finite -module structure of . In particular, if , is an odd prime number and is the Carlitz -module, then the finite -module is always cyclic.

     

A weak-type inequality of subharmonic functions

We prove the weak-type inequality , , between a non-negative subharmonic function and an -valued smooth function , defined on an open set containing the closure of a bounded domain in a Euclidean space , satisfying , and , where is a constant. Here is the harmonic measure on with respect to 0. This inequality extends Burkholder's inequality in which and , a Euclidean space.

     

Finitistic dimension and Ziegler spectrum

Given a two-sided artinian ring , it is shown that the Ziegler spectrum of forms a test class for certain homological properties of . We discuss the finitistic dimension of , Nunke's condition, and also the relation between the big and the little finitistic dimension.

     

Products of similar matrices

Let and be matrices of determinant over a field , with or . We show that if is not a scalar matrix, then is a product of matrices similar to . Analogously, we conjecture that if and are elements of a semisimple algebraic group over a field of characteristic zero, and if there is no normal subgroup of containing but not , then is a product of conjugates of . The conjecture is verified for orthogonal groups and symplectic groups, and for all semisimple groups over local fields. Thus, in a connected, semisimple Lie group with finite center, the only conjugation-invariant subsemigroups are the normal subgroups.

     

Eigenvalues of the form valued Laplacian for Riemannian submersions

Let be a Riemannian submersion of closed manifolds. Let be an eigen -form of the Laplacian on with eigenvalue which pulls back to an eigen -form of the Laplacian on with eigenvalue . We are interested in when the eigenvalue can change. We show that , so the eigenvalue can only increase; and we give some examples where , so the eigenvalue changes. If the horizontal distribution is integrable and if is simply connected, then , so the eigenvalue does not change.

In this note we aim to complete the results by Koskela concerning the radial uniqueness for Sobolev functions.

Extendibility of homogeneous polynomials on Banach spaces

We study the -homogeneous polynomials on a Banach space that can be extended to any space containing . We show that there is an upper bound on the norm of the extension. We construct a predual for the space of all extendible -homogeneous polynomials on and we characterize the extendible 2-homogeneous polynomials on when is a Hilbert space, an -space or an -space.

     

The property and the reals

The property may be generalized by using filters on in a very natural way. We analyze the necessary requirements for a space to have property for a filter . We construct special filters for which has the property, in particular a P-point and a Q-point.

Let be a locally compact abelian group. A function is said to be a weight if it is locally bounded, Borel measurable and submultiplicative. We call a weight on semi-bounded if there exist a constant and a subsemigroup with such that

A characterization for spaces of sections

The space of smooth sections of a bundle over a compact smooth manifold can be equipped with a manifold structure, called an -manifold, where represents the Fréchet algebra of real valued smooth functions on . We prove that the -manifold structure characterizes the spaces of sections of bundles over and its open subspaces. We also describe the -maps between -manifolds.

     

Certain invariant subspace structure of

In this note, we study certain structure of an invariant subspace of . Considering the largest -invariant (resp. -invariant) subspace in the wandering subspace of with respect to the shift operator , we give an alternative characterization of Beurling-type invariant subspaces. Let be open and be a bounded set which is closed relative to . We characterize those pairs such that, for each harmonic function on which is uniformly continuous on , there is a sequence of harmonic polynomials which converges to uniformly on . As an immediate corollary we obtain a characterization of Mergelyan pairs for harmonic functions.
