We demonstrate the possibility of controlling the quantum to classical transition by means of the quantum Zeno and anti-Zeno effects. We consider a quantum harmonic oscillator initially prepared in a Schrödinger cat state and interacting with an engineered amplitude reservoir. We show that the environment induced decoherence transforming the cat state into a statistical mixture can be strongly inhibited by means of either appropriate sequences of measurements or shuttered reservoirs.  相似文献

In the framework of the Lindblad theory for open quantum systems, we determine the degree of quantum decoherence of a harmonic oscillator interacting with a thermal bath. It is found that the system manifests a quantum decoherence which is more and more significant in time. We also calculate the decoherence time and show that it has the same scale as the time after which thermal fluctuations become comparable with quantum fluctuations. We discuss quantum decoherence in an open system which couples with a non-linear environment with finite degrees of freedom. Even if the degrees of freedom of the environment are finite, the strong non-linearity of the environment is expected to destroy quantum coherence of the open system like a heat bath with infinite degrees of freedom. In order to demonstrate this fact, we use two-dimensional kicked rotors as the environment and investigate a master equation for a reduced density matrix which is obtained by coarse-graining the environmental degrees of freedom. Our numerical simulation shows that when the non-linearity of the environment exceeds a critical strength, quantum coherence of the open system is irreversibly destroyed. This decoherence is due to the uncorrelated response of the environment to the open system and is related to the chaotic property of the non-linear environment.  相似文献

An optical quantum channel that introduces decoherence in the polarization state by continuously controlling the output degree of polarization (DOP) is proposed, and a proof-of-principle experiment is performed. The decoherence is achieved by a depolarizing process that couples the polarization and time-of-flight degrees of freedom of the single photons in a high-birefringence medium, and is experimentally characterized via standard quantum state tomography. It is shown that the output DOP is independent of the input polarization state and the response times of the photodetectors.  相似文献

The Altshuler–Aronov–Spivak (AAS) oscillations and the Aharonov–Bohm (AB) type oscillations both at low and high magnetic fields were observed in hexagonal antidot lattices fabricated from a GaAs/AlGaAs two-dimensional electron gas sample. The periodicities in the magnetic field and in the gate bias voltage, of the high field AB oscillation furnish information on the edge states localized around the antidots. In this paper, we study single-qubit and single-user quantum repeaters based on CNOT gates under decoherence using the Kraus-operator representations of decoherence. We investigate the influence of decoherence on the information-disturbance trade-off of quantum repeaters. It is found that decoherence may lead to the appearance of three subspaces, called as the normal subspace, the anomalous subspace, and the decoherence-free subspace (DFS), respectively. It is indicated that in the normal subspace decoherence decreases the transmission and estimation fidelities, in the anomalous subspace decoherence enhances these fidelities, and in the DFS these fidelities do not change. The concept of the quality factor is introduced to evaluate the quality of the quantum repeater. It is indicated that the quality factor can be efficiently controlled and manipulated by changing the initial state of the probe qubit. It is found that under certain conditions the quantum repeater can be optimal even in the presence of decoherence.   相似文献

We investigate the quantum characteristics of a three-particle W-class state and reveal the relationship between quantum discord and quantum entanglement under decoherence.We can also identify the state for which discord takes a maximal value for a given decoherence factor,and present a strong bound on quantum entanglement–quantum discord.In contrast,a striking result will be obtained that the quantum discord is not always stronger than the entanglement of formation in the case of decoherence.Furthermore,we also theoretically study the variation trend of the monogamy of quantum correlations for the three-particle W-class state under the phase flip channel,and find that the three-particle W-class state could transform from polygamous into monogamous,owing to the decoherence.  相似文献

We have reconstructed the quantum state of optical pulses containing single photons using the method of phase-randomized pulsed optical homodyne tomography. The single-photon Fock state 1> was prepared using conditional measurements on photon pairs born in the process of parametric down-conversion. A probability distribution of the phase-averaged electric field amplitudes with a strongly non-Gaussian shape is obtained with the total detection efficiency of (55+/-1)%. The angle-averaged Wigner function reconstructed from this distribution shows a strong dip reaching classically impossible negative values around the origin of the phase space.  相似文献

The well-known increase of the decoherence rate with the temperature, for a quantum system coupled to a linear thermal bath, no longer holds for a different bath dynamics. This is shown by means of a simple classical nonlinear bath, as well as a quantum spin-boson model. The anomalous effect is due to the temperature dependence of the bath spectral profile. In the case of the second model, a link with the quantum Zeno effect is provided. The decoherence reduction via the temperature increase can be relevant for the design of quantum computers.  相似文献

We study the one hole spectral function in a model for LaMnO3 including both the effects of orbital ordering and the quantum decoherence due to the antiferromagnetic coupling between the ferromagnetic layers. We find that the classical picture of a ferromagnetic polaron does not apply and free dispersion is replaced by rigid quasiparticles on the scale of magnetic excitations, while the spectra are dominated by the incoherent spectral weight at high energies. These results have important implications on the in-plane transport and angular resolved photoemission in the manganites.  相似文献

We propose a scheme for encoding logical qubits in a subspace protected against collective rotations around the propagation axis using the polarization and transverse spatial degrees of freedom of single photons. This encoding allows for quantum key distribution without the need of a shared reference frame. We present methods to generate entangled states of two logical qubits using present day down-conversion sources and linear optics, and show that the application of these entangled logical states to quantum information schemes allows for alignment-free tests of Bell's inequalities, quantum dense coding, and quantum teleportation.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a single-photon router via the use of a four-level atom system coupled with two one-dimensional coupled-resonator waveguides. A single photon can be directed from one quantum channel into another by atomic spontaneous emission. The coherent resonance and the photonic bound states lead to the perfect reflection appearing in the incident channel. The fidelity of the atom is related to the magnitude of the coupling strength and can reach unit when the coupling strength matches g a = g b . This shows that the transfer of a single photon into another quantum channel has no influence on the fidelity at special points.  相似文献
