Uniqueness theorems for the solution of an inverse problem for a fourth-order differential operator with nonseparated boundary conditions are proved. The spectral data for the problem is specified as the spectrum of the problem itself (or its three eigenvalues) and the spectral data of a system of three problems.  相似文献

For the first time, the inverse Sturm–Liouville problem with nonseparated boundary conditions is studied on a star-shaped geometric graph with three edges. It is shown that the Sturm–Liouville problem with general boundary conditions cannot be uniquely reconstructed from four spectra. Nonseparated boundary conditions are found for which a uniqueness theorem for the solution of the inverse Sturm–Liouville problem is proved. The spectrum of the boundary value problem itself and the spectra of three auxiliary problems are used as reconstruction data. It is also shown that the Sturm–Liouville problem with these nonseparated boundary conditions can be uniquely recovered if three spectra of auxiliary problems are used as reconstruction data and only five of its eigenvalues are used instead of the entire spectrum of the problem.  相似文献

Theorems on the unique reconstruction of a Sturm–Liouville problem with spectral polynomials in nonsplitting boundary conditions are proved. Two spectra and finitely many eigenvalues (one spectrum and finitely many eigenvalues for a symmetric potential) of the problem itself are used as the spectral data. The results generalize the Levinson uniqueness theorem to the case of nonsplitting boundary conditions containing polynomials in the spectral parameter. Algorithms and examples of solving relevant inverse problems are also presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we shall address three problems arising in the computation of eigenvalues of Sturm-Liouville boundary value problems. We first consider a well-posed Sturm-Liouville problem with discrete and distinct spectrum. For this problem, we shall show that the eigenvalues can be computed by solving for the zeros of the boundary condition at the terminal point as a function of the eigenvalue. In the second problem, we shall consider the case where some coefficients and parameters in the differential equation are continuously adjustable. For this, the eigenvalues can be optimized with respect to these adjustable coefficients and parameters by reformulating the problem as a combined optimal control and optimal parameter selection problem. Subsequently, these optimized eigenvalues can be computed by using an existing optimal control software, MISER. The last problem extends the first to nonstandard boundary conditions such as periodic or interrelated boundary conditions. To illustrate the efficiency and the versatility of the proposed methods, several non-trivial numerical examples are included.  相似文献

We consider a spectral problem that is nonlinear in the spectral parameter for a self-adjoint vector differential equation of order 2n. The boundary conditions depend on the spectral parameter and are self-adjoint as well. Under some conditions of monotonicity of the input data with respect to the spectral parameter, we present a method for counting the eigenvalues of the problem in a given interval. If the boundary conditions are independent of the spectral parameter, then we define the notion of number of an eigenvalue and give a method for computing this number as well as the set of numbers of all eigenvalues in a given interval. For an equation considered on an unbounded interval, under some additional assumptions, we present a method for approximating the original singular problem by a problem on a finite interval.  相似文献

Uniqueness theorems for solutions of inverse Sturm–Liouville problems with spectral polynomials in nonseparated boundary conditions are proved. As spectral data two spectra and finitely many eigenvalues of the direct problem or, in the case of a symmetric potential, one spectrum and finitely many eigenvalues are used. The obtained results generalize the Levinson uniqueness theorem to the case of nonseparated boundary conditions containing polynomials in the spectral parameter.  相似文献

A linear hydrodynamic stability problem corresponding to an electrohydrodynamic convection between two parallel walls is considered. The problem is an eighth order eigenvalue one supplied with hinged boundary conditions for the even derivatives up to sixth order. It is first solved by a direct analytical method. By variational arguments it is shown that its smallest eigenvalue is real and positive. The problem is cast into a second order differential system supplied only with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Then, two classes of methods are used to solve this formulation of the problem, namely, analytical methods (based on series of Chandrasekar-Galerkin type and of Budiansky-DiPrima type) and spectral methods (tau, Galerkin and collocation) based on Chebyshev and Legendre polynomials. For certain values of the physical parameters the numerically computed eigenvalues from the low part of the spectrum are displayed in a table. The Galerkin and collocation results are fairly closed and confirm the analytical results.  相似文献

A boundary value problem for a higher order differential operator with separated boundary conditions is considered. The asymptotics of solutions of the corresponding differential equation for large values of the spectral parameter is studied. The indicator diagram of the equation for the eigenvalues is studied. The asymptotic behavior of eigenvalues and the formula for calculation of eigenfunctions of the studied operator is obtained in different sectors of the indicator diagram.  相似文献

The Fourier method is used to find a classical solution of the mixed problem for a first-order differential equation with involution and periodic boundary conditions. The application of the Fourier method is substantiated using refined asymptotic formulas obtained for the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the corresponding spectral problem. The Fourier series representing the formal solution is transformed using certain techniques, and the possibility of its term-by-term differentiation is proved. Minimal requirements are imposed on the initial data of the problem.  相似文献

In this study, a Birkhoff-irregular boundary value problem for linear ordinary differential equations of the second order with discontinuous coefficients and the spectral parameter has been considered. Therefore, at the discontinuous point, two additional boundary conditions (called transmission conditions) have been added to the boundary conditions. The eigenvalue parameter is of the second degree in the differential equation and of the first degree in a boundary condition. The equation contains an abstract linear operator which is (usually) unbounded in the space Lq(−1, 1). Isomorphism and coerciveness with defects 1 and 2 are proved for this problem. The case of the biharmonic equation is also studied.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the spectral analysis of impulsive quadratic pencil of difference operators. We first present a boundary value problem consisting one interior impulsive point on the whole axis corresponding to the above mentioned operator. After introducing the solutions of impulsive quadratic pencil of difference equation, we obtain the asymptotic equation of the function related to the Wronskian of these solutions to be helpful for further works, then we determine resolvent operator and continuous spectrum. Finally, we provide sufficient conditions guarenteeing finiteness of eigenvalues and spectral singularities by means of uniqueness theorems of analytic functions. The main aim of this paper is demonstrating the impulsive quadratic pencil of difference operator is of finite number of eigenvalues and spectral singularities with finite multiplicities which is an uninvestigated problem proposed in the literature.  相似文献

We study the spectral properties of a multipoint boundary value problem for a fourth-order equation that describes small deformations of a chain of rigidly connected rods with elastic supports. We study the dependence of the spectrum of the boundary value problem on the rigidity coefficients of the supports. We show that the spectrum of the boundary value problem splits into two parts, one of which is movable under changes of the rigidity coefficients and the other remains fixed. As the rigidity coefficients grow, the eigenvalues corresponding to the movable part of the spectrum grow as well; moreover, the double degeneration of some eigenvalues is possible.  相似文献

We study the problem with boundary conditions of the first and second kind on the boundary of a rectangular domain for an equation with two internal perpendicular lines of change of a type. With the use of the spectral method we prove the unique solvability of the mentioned problem. The eigenvalue problem for an ordinary differential equation obtained by separation of variables is not self-adjoint, and the system of root functions is not orthogonal. We construct the corresponding biorthogonal system of functions and prove its completeness. This allows us to establish a criterion for the uniqueness of the solution to the problem under consideration. We construct the solution as the sum of the biorthogonal series.  相似文献

In a UMD Banach space E, we consider a boundary value problem for a second order elliptic differential-operator equation with a spectral parameter when one of the boundary conditions, in the principal part, contains a linear unbounded operator in E. A theorem on an isomorphism is proved and an appropriate estimate of the solution with respect to the space variable and the spectral parameter is obtained. In this way, Fredholm property of the problem is shown. Moreover, discreteness of the spectrum and completeness of a system of root functions corresponding to the homogeneous problem are established. Finally, applications of obtained abstract results to nonlocal boundary value problems for elliptic differential equations with a parameter in non-smooth domains are given.  相似文献

We investigate a problem for the Dirac differential operators in the case where an eigenparameter not only appears in the differential equation but is also linearly contained in a boundary condition. We prove uniqueness theorems for the inverse spectral problem with known collection of eigenvalues and normalizing constants or two spectra.  相似文献

We consider a large class of self-adjoint elliptic problems associated with the second derivative acting on a space of vector-valued functions. We present and survey several results that can be obtained by means of two different approaches to the study of the associated eigenvalues problems. The first, more general one allows to replace a secular equation (which is well known in some special cases) by an abstract rank condition. The second one, though available in general, seems to apply particularly well to a specific boundary condition, the sometimes dubbed anti-Kirchhoff condition in the literature, that arises in the theory of differential operators on graphs; it also permits to discuss interesting and more direct connections between the spectrum of the differential operator and some graph theoretical quantities, in particular some results on the symmetry of the spectrum in either case.  相似文献

We consider an inverse boundary problem for a general second order self-adjoint elliptic differential operator on a compact differential manifold with boundary. The inverse problem is that of the reconstruction of the manifold and operator via all but finite number of eigenvalues and traces on the boundary of the corresponding eigenfunctions of the operator. We prove that the data determine the manifold and the operator to within the group of the generalized gauge transformations. The proof is based upon a procedure of the reconstruction of a canonical object in the orbit of the group. This object, the canonical Schrödinger operator, is uniquely determined via its incomplete boundary spectral data.  相似文献

We consider a nonlinear spectral problem for a system of ordinary differential equations defined on an unbounded half-line and supplemented with a nonlocal condition specified by a Stieltjes integral. We suggest a numerically stable method for finding the number of eigenvalues lying in a given bounded domain of the complex plane and for the computation of these eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions. Our approach uses a simpler (with uncoupled boundary conditions) auxiliary boundary value problem for the same equation.  相似文献

This paper is the third in a series of several works devoted to the asymptotic and spectral analysis of a model of an aircraft wing in a subsonic air flow. This model has been developed in the Flight Systems Research Center of UCLA and is presented in the works by Balakrishnan. The model is governed by a system of two coupled integro‐differential equations and a two‐parameter family of boundary conditions modeling the action of the self‐straining actuators. The differential parts of the above equations form a coupled linear hyperbolic system; the integral parts are of the convolution type. The system of equations of motion is equivalent to a single operator evolution–convolution equation in the energy space. The Laplace transform of the solution of this equation can be represented in terms of the so‐called generalized resolvent operator, which is an operator‐valued function of the spectral parameter. This generalized resolvent operator is a finite‐meromorphic function on the complex plane having the branch cut along the negative real semi‐axis. Its poles are precisely the aeroelastic modes and the residues at these poles are the projectors on the generalized eigenspaces. In the first two papers (see [33, 34]) and in the present one, our main object of interest is the dynamics generator of the differential parts of the system. This generator is a non‐self‐adjoint operator in the energy space with a purely discrete spectrum. In the first paper, we have shown that the spectrum consists of two branches, and have derived their precise spectral asymptotics with respect to the eigenvalue number. In the second paper, we have derived the asymptotical approximations for the mode shapes. Based on the asymptotical results of the first two papers, in the present paper, we (a) prove that the set of the generalized eigenvectors of the aforementioned differential operator is complete in the energy space; (b) construct the set of vectors which is biorthogonal to the set of the generalized eigenvectors in the case when there might be not only eigenvectors but associate vectors as well; and (c) prove that the set of the generalized eigenvectors forms a Riesz basis in the energy space. To prove the main result of the paper, we made use of the Nagy–Foias functional model for non‐self‐adjoint operators. The results of all three papers will be important for the reconstruction of the solution of the original initial‐boundary‐value problem from its Laplace transform in the forthcoming papers.
