We construct uniformly high order accurate discontinuous Galerkin (DG) schemes which preserve positivity of density and pressure for Euler equations of compressible gas dynamics. The same framework also applies to high order accurate finite volume (e.g. essentially non-oscillatory (ENO) or weighted ENO (WENO)) schemes. Motivated by Perthame and Shu (1996) [20] and Zhang and Shu (2010) [26], a general framework, for arbitrary order of accuracy, is established to construct a positivity preserving limiter for the finite volume and DG methods with first order Euler forward time discretization solving one-dimensional compressible Euler equations. The limiter can be proven to maintain high order accuracy and is easy to implement. Strong stability preserving (SSP) high order time discretizations will keep the positivity property. Following the idea in Zhang and Shu (2010) [26], we extend this framework to higher dimensions on rectangular meshes in a straightforward way. Numerical tests for the third order DG method are reported to demonstrate the effectiveness of the methods.  相似文献

In Zhang and Shu (2010) [20], Zhang and Shu (2011) [21] and Zhang et al. (in press) [23], we constructed uniformly high order accurate discontinuous Galerkin (DG) and finite volume schemes which preserve positivity of density and pressure for the Euler equations of compressible gas dynamics. In this paper, we present an extension of this framework to construct positivity-preserving high order essentially non-oscillatory (ENO) and weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) finite difference schemes for compressible Euler equations. General equations of state and source terms are also discussed. Numerical tests of the fifth order finite difference WENO scheme are reported to demonstrate the good behavior of such schemes.  相似文献

In this paper, a family of sub-cell finite volume schemes for solving the hyperbolic conservation laws is proposed and analyzed in one-dimensional cases. The basic idea of this method is to subdivide a control volume (main cell) into several sub-cells and the finite volume discretization is applied to each of the sub-cells. The averaged values on the sub-cells of current and face neighboring main cells are used to reconstruct the polynomial distributions of the dependent variables. This method can achieve arbitrarily high order of accuracy using a compact stencil. It is similar to the spectral volume method incorporating with PNPM technique but with fundamental differences. An elaborate utilization of these differences overcomes some shortcomings of the spectral volume method and results in a family of accurate and robust schemes for solving the hyperbolic conservation laws. In this paper, the basic formulation of the proposed method is presented. The Fourier analysis is performed to study the properties of the one-dimensional schemes. A WENO limiter based on the secondary reconstruction is constructed.  相似文献

The local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) method is a spatial discretization procedure for convection–diffusion equations, which employs useful features from high resolution finite volume schemes, such as the exact or approximate Riemann solvers serving as numerical fluxes and limiters, which is termed as Runge–Kutta LDG (RKLDG) when TVD Runge–Kutta method is applied for time discretization. It has the advantage of flexibility in handling complicated geometry, h-p adaptivity, and efficiency of parallel implementation and has been used successfully in many applications. However, the limiters used to control spurious oscillations in the presence of strong shocks are less robust than the strategies of essentially non-oscillatory (ENO) and weighted ENO (WENO) finite volume and finite difference methods. In this paper, we investigated RKLDG methods with WENO and Hermite WENO (HWENO) limiters for solving convection–diffusion equations on unstructured meshes, with the goal of obtaining a robust and high order limiting procedure to simultaneously obtain uniform high order accuracy and sharp, non-oscillatory shock transition. Numerical results are provided to illustrate the behavior of these procedures.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a new class of finite volume schemes of arbitrary accuracy in space and time for systems of hyperbolic balance laws with stiff source terms. The new class of schemes is based on a three stage procedure. First a high-order WENO reconstruction procedure is applied to the cell averages at the current time level. Second, the temporal evolution of the reconstruction polynomials is computed locally inside each cell using the governing equations. In the original ENO scheme of Harten et al. and in the ADER schemes of Titarev and Toro, this time evolution is achieved via a Taylor series expansion where the time derivatives are computed by repeated differentiation of the governing PDE with respect to space and time, i.e. by applying the so-called Cauchy–Kovalewski procedure. However, this approach is not able to handle stiff source terms. Therefore, we present a new strategy that only replaces the Cauchy–Kovalewski procedure compared to the previously mentioned schemes. For the time-evolution part of the algorithm, we introduce a local space–time discontinuous Galerkin (DG) finite element scheme that is able to handle also stiff source terms. This step is the only part of the algorithm which is locally implicit. The third and last step of the proposed ADER finite volume schemes consists of the standard explicit space–time integration over each control volume, using the local space–time DG solutions at the Gaussian integration points for the intercell fluxes and for the space–time integral over the source term. We will show numerical convergence studies for nonlinear systems in one space dimension with both non-stiff and with very stiff source terms up to sixth order of accuracy in space and time. The application of the new method to a large set of different test cases is shown, in particular the stiff scalar model problem of LeVeque and Yee [R.J. LeVeque, H.C. Yee, A study of numerical methods for hyperbolic conservation laws with stiff source terms, Journal of Computational Physics 86 (1) (1990) 187–210], the relaxation system of Jin and Xin [S. Jin, Z. Xin, The relaxation schemes for systems of conservation laws in arbitrary space dimensions, Communications on Pure and Applied Mathematics 48 (1995) 235–277] and the full compressible Euler equations with stiff friction source terms.  相似文献

By comparing the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) and the finite volume (FV) methods, a concept of ‘static reconstruction’ and ‘dynamic reconstruction’ is introduced for high-order numerical methods. Based on the new concept, a class of hybrid DG/FV schemes is presented for one-dimensional conservation law using a ‘hybrid reconstruction’ approach. In the hybrid DG/FV schemes, the lower-order derivatives of a piecewise polynomial solution are computed locally in a cell by the DG method based on Taylor basis functions (called as ‘dynamic reconstruction’), while the higher-order derivatives are re-constructed by the ‘static reconstruction’ of the FV method, using the known lower-order derivatives in the cell itself and its adjacent neighboring cells. The hybrid DG/FV methods can greatly reduce CPU time and memory required by the traditional DG methods with the same order of accuracy on the same mesh, and they can be extended directly to unstructured and hybrid grids in two and three dimensions similar to the DG and/or FV methods. The hybrid DG/FV methods are applied to one-dimensional conservation law, including linear and non-linear scalar equation and Euler equations. In order to capture the strong shock waves without spurious oscillations, a simple shock detection approach is developed to mark ‘trouble cells’, and a moment limiter is adopted for higher-order schemes. The numerical results demonstrate the accuracy, and the super-convergence property is shown for the third-order hybrid DG/FV schemes. In addition, by analyzing the eigenvalues of the semi-discretized system in one dimension, we discuss the spectral properties of the hybrid DG/FV schemes to explain the super-convergence phenomenon.  相似文献

One of the main challenges in computational simulations of gas detonation propagation is that negative density or negative pressure may emerge during the time evolution, which will cause blow-ups. Therefore, schemes with provable positivity-preserving of density and pressure are desired. First order and second order positivity-preserving schemes were well studied, e.g., [6], [10]. For high order discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method, even though the characteristicwise TVB limiter in [1], [2] can kill oscillations, it is not sufficient to maintain the positivity. A simple solution for arbitrarily high order positivity-preserving schemes solving Euler equations was proposed recently in [22]. In this paper, we first discuss an extension of the technique in [22], [23], [24] to design arbitrarily high order positivity-preserving DG schemes for reactive Euler equations. We then present a simpler and more robust implementation of the positivity-preserving limiter than the one in [22]. Numerical tests, including very demanding examples in gaseous detonations, indicate that the third order DG scheme with the new positivity-preserving limiter produces satisfying results even without the TVB limiter.  相似文献

In this article we develop an improved version of the classical fifth-order weighted essentially non-oscillatory finite difference scheme of [G.S. Jiang, C.W. Shu, Efficient implementation of weighted ENO schemes, J. Comput. Phys. 126 (1996) 202–228] (WENO-JS) for hyperbolic conservation laws. Through the novel use of a linear combination of the low order smoothness indicators already present in the framework of WENO-JS, a new smoothness indicator of higher order is devised and new non-oscillatory weights are built, providing a new WENO scheme (WENO-Z) with less dissipation and higher resolution than the classical WENO. This new scheme generates solutions that are sharp as the ones of the mapped WENO scheme (WENO-M) of Henrick et al. [A.K. Henrick, T.D. Aslam, J.M. Powers, Mapped weighted essentially non-oscillatory schemes: achieving optimal order near critical points, J. Comput. Phys. 207 (2005) 542–567], however with a 25% reduction in CPU costs, since no mapping is necessary. We also provide a detailed analysis of the convergence of the WENO-Z scheme at critical points of smooth solutions and show that the solution enhancements of WENO-Z and WENO-M at problems with shocks comes from their ability to assign substantially larger weights to discontinuous stencils than the WENO-JS scheme, not from their superior order of convergence at critical points. Numerical solutions of the linear advection of discontinuous functions and nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws as the one dimensional Euler equations with Riemann initial value problems, the Mach 3 shock–density wave interaction and the blastwave problems are compared with the ones generated by the WENO-JS and WENO-M schemes. The good performance of the WENO-Z scheme is also demonstrated in the simulation of two dimensional problems as the shock–vortex interaction and a Mach 4.46 Richtmyer–Meshkov Instability (RMI) modeled via the two dimensional Euler equations.  相似文献

In [16], [17], we constructed uniformly high order accurate discontinuous Galerkin (DG) schemes which preserve positivity of density and pressure for the Euler equations of compressible gas dynamics with the ideal gas equation of state. The technique also applies to high order accurate finite volume schemes. For the Euler equations with various source terms (e.g., gravity and chemical reactions), it is more difficult to design high order schemes which do not produce negative density or pressure. In this paper, we first show that our framework to construct positivity-preserving high order schemes in [16], [17] can also be applied to Euler equations with a general equation of state. Then we discuss an extension to Euler equations with source terms. Numerical tests of the third order Runge–Kutta DG (RKDG) method for Euler equations with different types of source terms are reported.  相似文献

In this paper, the multidimensional limiter for the second order finite volume schemes on the unstructured grid, namely the Weighted Biased Average procedure developed in our previous paper is extended to high order finite volume schemes solving hyperbolic conservation laws. This extension relies on two key techniques: the secondary reconstruction and the successive limiting procedure. These techniques are discussed in detail in the present paper. Numerical experiments shows that this limiting procedure is very effective in removing numerical oscillations in the vicinity of discontinuities. And furthermore this procedure is efficient, robust and accuracy preserving.  相似文献

By comparing the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods, the k-exact finite volume (FV) methods and the lift collocation penalty (LCP) methods, a concept of ‘static reconstruction’ and ‘dynamic reconstruction’ was introduced for higher-order numerical methods in our previous work. Based on this concept, a class of hybrid DG/FV methods was presented for one-dimensional conservation law using a ‘hybrid reconstruction’ approach. In the hybrid DG/FV schemes, the lower-order derivatives of the piecewise polynomial are computed locally in a cell by the traditional DG method (called as ‘dynamic reconstruction’), while the higher-order derivatives are re-constructed by the ‘static reconstruction’ of the FV method, using the known lower-order derivatives in the cell itself and in its adjacent face neighboring cells. In this follow-up paper, the hybrid DG/FV schemes are extended onto two-dimensional unstructured and hybrid grids. The two-dimensional linear and non-linear scalar conservation law and Euler equations are considered. Some typical cases are tested to demonstrate the performance of the hybrid DG/FV method, and the numerical results show that they can reduce the CPU time and memory requirement greatly than the traditional DG method with the same order of accuracy in the same mesh.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a semi-Lagrangian finite difference formulation for approximating conservative form of advection equations with general variable coefficients. Compared with the traditional semi-Lagrangian finite difference schemes [5], [25], which approximate the advective form of the equation via direct characteristics tracing, the scheme proposed in this paper approximates the conservative form of the equation. This essential difference makes the proposed scheme naturally conservative for equations with general variable coefficients. The proposed conservative semi-Lagrangian finite difference framework is coupled with high order essentially non-oscillatory (ENO) or weighted ENO (WENO) reconstructions to achieve high order accuracy in smooth parts of the solution and to capture sharp interfaces without introducing spurious oscillations. The scheme is extended to high dimensional problems by Strang splitting. The performance of the proposed schemes is demonstrated by linear advection, rigid body rotation, swirling deformation, and two dimensional incompressible flow simulation in the vorticity stream-function formulation. As the information is propagating along characteristics, the proposed scheme does not have the CFL time step restriction of the Eulerian method, allowing for a more efficient numerical realization for many application problems.  相似文献

We introduce a multi-domain Fourier-continuation/WENO hybrid method (FC–WENO) that enables high-order and non-oscillatory solution of systems of nonlinear conservation laws, and which enjoys essentially dispersionless, spectral character away from discontinuities, as well as mild CFL constraints (comparable to those of finite difference methods). The hybrid scheme employs the expensive, shock-capturing WENO method in small regions containing discontinuities and the efficient FC method in the rest of the computational domain, yielding a highly effective overall scheme for applications with a mix of discontinuities and complex smooth structures. The smooth and discontinuous solution regions are distinguished using the multi-resolution procedure of Harten [J. Comput. Phys. 115 (1994) 319–338]. We consider WENO schemes of formal orders five and nine and a FC method of order five. The accuracy, stability and efficiency of the new hybrid method for conservation laws is investigated for problems with both smooth and non-smooth solutions. In the latter case, we solve the Euler equations for gas dynamics for the standard test case of a Mach three shock wave interacting with an entropy wave, as well as a shock wave (with Mach 1.25, three or six) interacting with a very small entropy wave and evaluate the efficiency of the hybrid FC–WENO method as compared to a purely WENO-based approach as well as alternative hybrid based techniques. We demonstrate considerable computational advantages of the new FC-based method, suggesting a potential of an order of magnitude acceleration over alternatives when extended to fully three-dimensional problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a method for obtaining sharp interfaces in two-phase incompressible flows by an anti-diffusion correction, that is applicable in a straight-forward fashion for the improvement of two-phase flow solution schemes typically employed in practical applications. The underlying discretization is based on the volume-of-fluid (VOF) interface-capturing method on unstructured meshes. The key idea is to steepen the interface, independently of the underlying volume-fraction transport equation, by solving a diffusion equation with reverse time, i.e. an anti-diffusion equation, after each advection time step of the volume fraction. As the solution of the anti-diffusion equation requires regularization, a limiter based on the directional derivative is developed for calculating the gradient of the volume fraction. This limiter ensures the boundedness of the volume fraction. In order to control the amount of anti-diffusion introduced by the correction algorithm we propose a suitable stopping criterion for interface steepening. The formulation of the limiter and the algorithm for solving the anti-diffusion equation are applicable to 3-dimensional unstructured meshes. Validation computations are performed for passive advection of an interface, for 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional rising-bubbles, and for a rising drop in a periodically constricted channel. The results demonstrate that sharp interfaces can be recovered reliably. They show that the accuracy is similar to or even better than that of level-set methods using comparable discretizations for the flow and the level-set evolution. Also, we observe a good agreement with experimental results for the rising drop where proper interface evolution requires accurate mass conservation.  相似文献

Wave propagation in idealized stellar atmospheres is modeled by the equations of ideal MHD, together with the gravity source term. The waves are modeled as small perturbations of isothermal steady states of the system. We consider a formulation of ideal MHD based on the Godunov–Powell form, with an embedded potential magnetic field appearing as a parameter. The equations are discretized by finite volume schemes based on approximate Riemann solvers of the HLL type and upwind discretizations of the Godunov–Powell source terms. Local hydrostatic reconstructions and suitable discretization of the gravity source term lead to a well-balanced scheme, i.e., a scheme which exactly preserves a discrete version of the relevant steady states. Higher order of accuracy is obtained by employing suitable minmod, ENO and WENO reconstructions, based on the equilibrium variables, to construct a well-balanced scheme. The resulting high order well-balanced schemes are validated on a suite of numerical experiments involving complex magnetic fields. The schemes are observed to be robust and resolve the complex physics well.  相似文献

A numerical method in which the Rankine–Hugoniot condition is enforced at the discrete level is developed. The simple format of central discretization in a finite volume method is used together with the jump condition to develop a simple and yet accurate numerical method free of Riemann solvers and complicated flux splittings. The steady discontinuities are captured accurately by this numerical method. The basic idea is to fix the coefficient of numerical dissipation based on the Rankine–Hugoniot (jump) condition. Several numerical examples for scalar and vector hyperbolic conservation laws representing the inviscid Burgers equation, the Euler equations of gas dynamics, shallow water equations and ideal MHD equations in one and two dimensions are presented which demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of this numerical method in capturing the flow features.  相似文献
