We experimentally demonstrate a flexibly switchable multi-wavelength fiber optical parametric oscillator (MW-FOPO) by employing a highly nonlinear dispersion-shifted fiber (HNL-DSF) as the gain medium and a Lyot-Sagnac fiber ring as the comb filter. The wavelength spacing and the number of channels in the switchable MW-FOPO are adjustable by controlling the effective length of polarization maintaining fiber (PMF) segments in the intracavity Lyot-Sagnac filter. We achieve 36 lasing channels with 0.5 nm-spacing and 22 lasing channels with 0.8 nm-spacing in a wavelength range from 1541 to 1559 nm at room temperature. A comparison of the output spectra between the dual-pump MW-FOPO and single-pump MW-FOPO is presented as well.  相似文献

We propose a wavelength-spacing tunable multi-wavelength fiber optical parametric oscillator (MW-FOPO) with a simple line cavity and one pump source based on multiple four-wave mixing (MFWM). Stable multi-wavelength lasing at room temperature is achieved due to the four-wave mixing effect and the broadband gain of the fiber optical parametric amplifier based on a highly nonlinear fiber. The wavelength spacing of the proposed MW-FOPO can be tuned by adjusting the wavelength of the pump light or the central wavelength of the fiber Bragg grating. Seventeen lasing lines with a wavelength spacing of 2.89 nm and an extinction ratio larger than 10 dB, which covers the wavelength region from 1540 to 1568 nm is demonstrated.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrated a new structure of a multiwavelength semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) ring laser based on a fiber Sagnac loop filter that can generate up to 25 stable output lasing wavelengths at room temperature. By varying the length of a polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber within the Sagnac loop filter, the wavelength spacing between the output lasing wavelengths can be changed to a desired value. By tuning a polarization controller (PC) within the Sagnac loop filter, stable multiwavelength 1550-nm operation with up to 17 lasing lines within 3 dB power level variation and with a wavelength spacing of ∼0.8 nm was achieved. The optical signal-to-noise ratios (OSNRs) of all the lasing wavelengths are greater than 40 dB.  相似文献

We propose a simple dual-wavelength Er-doped fiber laser configuration based on a dual-wavelength fiber Bragg grating written on the splice joint between two different fibers for wavelength-selective filter in the Sagnac loop interferometer. The wavelength separation between the adjacent lasing wavelengths is 1.12 nm and the side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) is over 55 dB. The output power variation is less than 0.8 dB over a two-minute period. Moreover, the lasing wavelength can be effectively tuned using the thermal heating method.  相似文献

A stable and tunable linear polarization single longitudinal mode fiber ring laser is proposed and demonstrated. A high extinction ratio spatial mode interference filter utilizing two-mode graded-index fiber supresses irregular side modes effectively, the combination of fiber polarizer and polarization maintaining fiber act as a polarization dependent comb filter, and tunable bandpass filter is adopted to select proper lasing wavelength. The power fluctuation and wavelength fluctuation at 1549.88 nm are less than 0.05 dB and 0.02 nm in 1 h, respectively. Only one longitudinal mode appears within a free spectral range of 7.5 GHz, and the degree of polarization in percentage is approximately as high as 99.07%.  相似文献

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a stable dual-wavelength erbium-doped polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber laser with tunable wavelength spacing using an all-PM linear cavity that makes use of two reflection peaks from the PM fiber Bragg grating (PM-FBG). Experimental results show stable dual lasing lines with a wavelength separation of ∼0.22 nm and a large optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of over 40 dB under room temperature. By applying axial strain to the PM-FBG, the center wavelengths of the two lasing lines can be tuned over several nanometers and the wavelength separation between the lasing lines can also be tuned to as small as 0.05 nm, which, to our knowledge, is the smallest wavelength spacing ever obtained from a stable room-temperature dual-wavelength fiber laser. The proposed laser configuration has the advantages of simple structure, low loss, stable dual-wavelength operation and a very small lasing linewidth of ∼5 kHz . We demonstrate a multiwavelength fiber laser with ultradense wavelength spacing and ultrabroad bandwidth based on inhomogeneous loss mechanism with assistance of nonlinear polarization rotation. The inhomogeneous loss, implemented by incorporating a section of highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) and a Sagnac filter in the laser cavity, can balance mode competition in erbium-doped fiber and result in ultradense multiwavelength generation. The bandwidth of the multiwavelength spectrum is greatly broadened owing to the intensity-dependent loss induced by nonlinear polarization rotation. Stable multiwavelength lasing with wavelength spacing of 0.08 nm and wavelength number up to 254 is achieved at room temperature. Moreover, multiwavelength tuning is realized through modifying polarization-dependent cavity loss.  相似文献

A novel single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) erbium-doped fiber laser with a simple linear cavity based on a fiber Bragg grating Fabry-Perot filter (FBG-FPF) and a narrowband (~0.06 nm) FBG is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. Two uniform FBGs form the FBG-FPF, which has two ultranarrow transmission bands with a bandwidth of 0.12 pm and a wavelength spacing of 0.095 nm. By slightly tuning the central wavelength of the narrowband FBG, SLM lasing at 1549.658 or 1549.563 nm (corresponding to the two transmission peaks of the FBG-FPF) is achieved with a laser output power of ~4 mW, when the pump power is ~75 mW.  相似文献

A dual-pass Mach–Zehnder interferometer filter using a section of twin-core fiber (TCF) loop mirror is proposed. The filter is theoretically and experimentally studied for various interferometer arm difference when TCF length is constant. Theoretical results are validated by the experimental demonstration and in good agreement with the experimental results. And then, by using the filter in a ring fiber laser, a stable and switchable dual-wavelength lasing is obtained experimentally. The 3-dB bandwidth and the SMSR of the output laser are 0.015 nm and higher than 62.4 dB, respectively. The peak power fluctuation and wavelength shift are also monitored to be less than 0.04 dB and 0.02 nm over an hour at room temperature. Furthermore, the output laser can be switched between single and dual wavelength by carefully adjusting the PCs. The experimental results show that the filter can suppress mode competition effectively, improve the SMSR availably, and enhance the stability of the output lasing.  相似文献

An all-optical widely tunable Raman fiber laser has been realized by incorporating a highly nonlinear fiber in a ring cavity. By feedback a portion of Raman Stokes wave back into the highly nonlinear gain medium, a Raman fiber laser is generated. We found that the lasing wavelength of Raman fiber laser can be tuned from 1537 to 1568 nm with peak power fluctuation within 1 dB, giving a total wavelength tunability of 31 nm. The optical signal-to-noise ratio is found to be wavelength dependent, and the highest optical signal-to-noise ratio of about 59 dB is recorded. The lasing threshold of the Raman fiber laser with this configuration is found to be as low as 300 mW.  相似文献

A stable and narrow wavelength spacing multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser is proposed and demonstrated. The laser can produce simultaneous dual- and triple-wavelength lasing oscillations with a narrow wavelength spacing of less than 0.1 nm via using a single fiber Bragg gratings written in polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber. By adjusting polarization controller, the wavelength spacing of dual-wavelength lasing oscillations can be tuned to as small as 0.032 nm. The maximum amplitude variation for every lasing wavelength is less than 0.5 dB. The room-temperature operation principle is based on the polarization hole burning and deeply saturated effect in an ordinary erbium-doped fiber ring laser (EDFRL). The laser has the advantages of simple all-fiber configuration, low cost, high stability and operating at room temperature.  相似文献

In this demonstration, we propose and experimentally investigate a wavelength-selection erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser in single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) by using simple fiber ring scheme design. We use a tunable bandpass filter (TBF) inside the gain cavity to restrict the lasing frequency. The proposed ring cavities can also serve as the mode filters for side mode suppression. Based on the simple ring cavity design, the mode hopping can be avoided to achieve SLM output. The TBF inside the laser scheme also obtains the wavelength tuning in the range of 1520.02 to 1562.02 nm. In addition, the output performance of the proposed fiber laser has also been discussed.  相似文献

A wavelength spacing tunable dual-wavelength single-longitudinal-mode fiber ring laser is presented by employing separated fiber Bragg gratings. By using a saturable-absorption-induced grating filter and a hybrid gain medium formed by a semiconductor optical amplifier and an erbium-doped fiber amplifier, stable single-longitudinal-mode lasing is achieved at room temperature. Wavelength spacing of the proposed fiber laser can be tuned in a range from 0.1 to 1.3 nm.  相似文献

A tunable single-longitudinal-mode(SLM) semiconductor optical amplifier(SOA)-based fiber laser based on a dispersion-shifted fiber(DSF) is proposed and successfully demonstrated. SLM operation is obtained due to the spectral narrowing effect resulting from inverse four-wave mixing in a DSF. A tunable optical filter performs wavelength selection function. By inserting a length of DSF in the laser cavity, SLM lasing can possibly be obtained when laser oscillation is stably established after traveling through the DSF many roundtrips. Stable tunable SLM oscillation with a signal-to-noise ratio as high as 65 dB over a wavelength range of about 35 nm is achieved experimentally, and each spectral linewidth is less than 6.5 kHz.  相似文献

A multiwavelength fiber ring laser obtained by use of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) with a simple laser cavity configuration is reported. A Fabry-Perot filter was used in the fiber laser ring cavity to achieve more than 50 simultaneous wavelength lasing oscillations with a frequency separation of 50 GHz. The resulting stable broadband multiwavelength lasing operation was attributed to broadband and flat gain of the SOA, which has a gain flatness of 0.8 dB for more than 20 nm. The laser has a total output power of -3 dBm and a signal-to-spontaneous-noise ratio of 30 dB.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate a simple-structure but efficient multiwavelength erbium-doped fiber laser based on nonlinear polarization rotation assisted by four-wave-mixing (FWM). Based on the combination of these two nonlinear mechanisms contributing to intensity-dependent loss to alleviate mode competition, the stable multiwavelength operation at room temperature can be realized in a length of dispersion-shifted fiber. We achieved up to 38-wavelength generation with a spacing of ∼0.4 nm in the laser. In addition, through tuning the birefringence fiber filter, the lasing wavelength can be accurately tuned in the free spectrum range.  相似文献

Eight-wavelength Er-doped fiber lasers with lasing wavelength separations of ~1.6 and ~0.8 nm , respectively, have been achieved by use of overlap-written fiber Bragg gratings (OWFBG's) in the fiber lasers and by cooling of the Er-doped fiber with liquid N(2) . Our experiment shows that by utilizing the OWFBG's to select the lasing wavelengths one can achieve fiber lasers with lasing wavelengths and lasing wavelength separations that match the International Telecommunication Union channel-allocation grid well.  相似文献
