Within the general framework ofC*-algebra approach to mathematical foundation of statistical mechanics, we prove a theorem which gives a natural explanation for the appearance of the chemical potential (as a thermodynamical parameter labelling equilibrium states) in the presence of a symmetry (under gauge transformations of the first kind). As a symmetry, we consider a compact abelian groupG acting as *-automorphisms of aC*-algebra (quasi-local field algebra) and commuting (elementwise) with the time translation automorphisms t of . Under a technical assumption which is satisfied by examples of physical interest, we prove that the set of all extremal t -KMS states (pure phases) ofG-fixed-point subalgebra (quasi-local observable algebra) of satisfying a certain faithfulness condition is in one-to-one correspondence with the set of all extremalG-invariant t · t -KMS states of with varying over one-parameter subgroups ofG (the specification of being the specification of the chemical potential), where the correspondence is that the restriction of to is .  相似文献

Metallic cluster growth within a reactive polymer matrix is modeled by augmenting coagulation equations to include the influence of side reactions of metal atoms with the polymer matrix: where > 0 and where c k denotes the concentration of the kth cluster and p denotes the concentration of reactive sites available within the polymer matrix for reaction with metallic atoms. The initial conditions are required to be non-negative and satisfy and p(0) = p 0. We assume that for 01, which encompasses both bond linking kernels (R jk = j k ) and surface reaction kernels (R jk = j + k ). Our analytical and numerical results indicate that the side reactions delay gelation in some cases and inhibit gelation in others. We provide numerical evidence that gelation occurs for the classical coagulation equations ( = 0) with the bond linking kernel (d ) for 1/2<1. We examine the relative fraction of metal atoms, which coagulate compared to those which interact with the polymer matrix, and demonstrate in particular a linear dependence on –1 in the limiting case R = jk , p 0=1.  相似文献

For automorphism groups of operator algebras we show how properties of the difference t – ' t are reflected in relations between the generators , . Indeed for a von Neumann algebraM with separable predual we show that if t – 't 0.28 for smallt, then = 0(+)°-1 where is an inner automorphism ofM and is a bounded derivation ofM. If the difference t – ' t =O(t) ast ; 0, then = + and if t – ' t 0.28 for allt then =. We prove analogous results for unitary groups on a Hilbert space andC 0,C 0 * groups on a Banach space. This paper subsumes an earlier work of the same title which appeared as a report from Z.I.F. der Universität BielefeldWith partial support of the U.S. National Science Foundation  相似文献

Nuclear emulsions were used to study the energy spectrum and forward-backward asymmetry of neutrons from the Co59(p,n) reaction forE p 6·5 MeV. It was found that the decay of the compound nucleus makes a maximum contribution of 50% to the reaction yield. Energies of some excited states of the Ni59 nucleus were also determined.

We rigorously derive a linear kinetic equation of Fokker–Planck type for a 2-D Lorentz gas in which the obstacles are randomly distributed. Each obstacle of the Lorentz gas generates a potential V( ), where V is a smooth radially symmetric function with compact support, and >0. The density of obstacles diverges as , where >0. We prove that when 0< <1/8 and =2+1, the probability density of a test particle converges as 0 to a solution of our kinetic equation.  相似文献

C denotes either the conformal group in 3+1 dimensions, PSO(4, 2), or in one chiral dimension, PSL(2, ). Let U be a unitary, strongly continuous representation of C satisfying the spectrum condition and inducing, by its adjoint action, automorphisms of a von Neumann algebra . We construct the unique inner representation of the universal covering group of C implementing these automorphisms. satisfies the spectrum condition and acts trivially on any U-invariant vector. This means in particular: Conformal transformations of a field theory having positive energy are weak limit points of local observables. Some immediate implications for chiral subnets are given. We propose the name Borchers–Sugawara construction.  相似文献

A new method is proposed for calculating the energy in certain special points of the Brillouin zone. The wave functions of valence and conduction electrons are given in the form of the linear combination of plane waves and the orthogonality condition of these functions to the wave functions of lower states is replaced by the repulsive potential. The practical application of this very simple method is illustrated on the energy spectrum of silicon in the centre of the Brillouin zone. It is proved that the results are comparable with some other methods, e. g. the orthogonalized plane-wave method.

The stability of the homogeneously broadened and degenerate two-photon running wave laser is analysed by using the full set of matter-field equations. The stability depends on the relative size of the relaxation constants. For 2k>1+r(k=/,r=/; is the cavity loss of the field and , are the longitudinal and transversal decay constants, respectively) no stable lasing state exists. Forr<k<(1+r)/2 an instability occurs. With the decrease in pumping the stable lasing state loses its stability due to Hopf-bifurcation.  相似文献

Let (x) be the Dirac's delta,q(x)L 1 (R)L 2 (R) be a real valued function, and , R; we will consider the following class of one-dimensional formal Schrödinger operators on . It is known that to the formal operator may be associated a selfadjoint operatorH(,) onL 2(R). Ifq is of finite range, for >0 and || is small enough, we prove thatH(,) has an antibound state; that is the resolvent ofH(,) has a pole on the negative real axis on the second Riemann sheet.Work done while the author was supported by an undergraduate fellowship of the (Italian) National Research Council (CNR).  相似文献

Let be an action of a compact abelian groupG on aC*-algebraA, and assume that the fixed-point subalgebraA is an AF-algebra. We show that if is a closed *-derivation onA commuting with , and the restriction of toA generates a one-parameter group of *-automorphisms, then itself is a generator. In particular, the result applies if is an infinite product action ofG on a UHF algebra. Furthermore, if in this situation 1 and 2 are two derivations both satisfying the hypotheses on , and 1 and 2 have the same restriction toA , then there exists a one-parameter subgroup of the action with generator 0 such thatD(1)D(2)D(0) is a joint core for the three derivations, and 2=1+0 on this core.  相似文献

In ordinary quantum mechanics for finite systems, the time evolution induced by Hamiltonians of the form is studied from the point of view of *-automorphisms of the CCRC*-algebra (see Ref. [1, 2]). It is proved that those Hamiltonians do not induce *-automorphisms of this algebra in the cases: a) and b)V L (,dx) L 1 (,dx), except when the potential is trivial.  相似文献

The gyroscope in an orbiting satellite will be acted on by additional gravitational fields due to the rotation of the earth and due to the orbital velocity of the satellite. According to special relativistic gravitational theory, we deduce L (S) —the gyroscope's precession rate due to the orbital velocity—and S (S) —the gyroscope's precession rate due to the earth's rotation in the polar orbit case. The results are L (S) = (2/3) L (G) , S (S) = (3/2) cos (1 - sin2 cos2)1/2 S (G) , where and are the gyroscope's polar angles, and L (G) and S (G) are the geodetic and frame-dragging precession rates predicted by general relativity, respectively.  相似文献

In a Riemannian space-time, the difference between the third-order tensor potentialH of the Riemann tensor (presented in a precedent paper) and the Lanczos generating function of the Weyl tensor is here shown to be characterized by a vectorV , obtained by contractionH . The significant role of such a vector, in the context of general relativity, is then discussed. Particular attention is paid to the scalar potential which characterizes the irrotational part ofV : such a scalar field satisfies a space-time wave equation of the Poisson type. Weak fields are also considered: in the particular case of a static metric, the scalar is found to be proportional to the classic Newtonian potential. This work was done in the sphere of activity of the C.N.R. Using wave functions determined from ground-state local-density calculations, we have calculated the wave-dispersed free response of the optical nonlinear polarizability (3)(–3;,,), for the C60 molecule and (3)(–3;,,) i.e. Third-Harmonic Generation (THG) for films using a sum-over-states approach. The influence of screening was determined by applying an external static electric field in separate selfconsistent calculations to evaluate induced dipole moments which was used to determine the static linear and nonlinear polarizabilities. The polarizabilities calculated in the static limit were used to determine an effective screening parameter which was, in turn, used together with an RPA approach to calculate screened wave-dispersed, third-order nonlinear optical properties such as (3)(–3;,,) and (3)(–3;,,). Comparing evaluated polarizabilities with experimental values we found that the non-resonant free polarizability compares well in absolute magnitude with experimental results. Inclusion of screening results in a polarizability about two orders of magnitude below the experimental values.Paper presented at the 129th WE-Heraeus-Seminar on Surface Studies by Nonlinear Laser Spectroscopies, Kassel, Germany, May 30 to June 1, 1994  相似文献

We study the Boltzmann-Grad limit in various versions of the two-dimensional HPP cellular automaton. In the completely deterministic case we prove convergence to an evolution that is not of kinetic type, a well-known phenomenon after Uchyiama's paper on the Broadwell gas, whereas the limiting equation becomes of kinetic type in the model with random collisions. The main part of the paper concerns the case where the collisions are deterministic and the randomness comes from inserting, between any two successive HPP updatings, - stirring updatings, <1 being any fixed positive number and a parameter which tends to 0. The initial measure is a product measure with average occupation numbers of the order of (low-density limit) and varying on distances of the order of –1. The limit as 0 of the system evolved for times of the order of -1- corresponds to the Boltzmann-Grad limit. We prove propagation of chaos and that the renormalized average occupation numbers (i.e., divided by) converge to the solution of the Broadwell equation. Convergence is proven at all times for which the solution of the Broadwell equation is bounded.  相似文献

Electromagnetic equilibrium fluctuations in finite cavities filled with a dissipative medium (dielectric function ()=+i) and bounded by walls of infinite conductivity are considered. Expanding the fields in terms of a complete and orthonormal set of functions and solving the Maxwell equations the response of the EM field to external forces (polarization and magnetization) is obtained. With the aid of the fluctuation dissipation theorem and the linear response functions the 2nd order correlation tensors of the EM field are derived. For rectangular cavities explicit considerations are made. In the case of transparent media (=0) the spectral energy density of the EM radiation is calculated.  相似文献
