Re-examination of all known xenon isotopic data for achondrites reveals that244Pu fission xenon can be resolved in about three-fourths of the meteorites of this class. The amounts of244Pu fission xenon found in these meteorites range from ca. 1–2 up to 20–40·10–12 ccSTP/g. These meteorites started to retain their xenon some 200–500 million years later than did the carbonaceous chondrites Allende, Groznaya, Mokoia, Murchison, Murray, and Renazzo, which began to retain their xenon over 4800 million years ago.  相似文献

Re-examination of all known xenon isotopic data for the carbonaceous chondrites Renazzo, Mokoia, and Groznaya reveals that these meteorites contain (26±7), (33±1), and (36±4)·10–12 (ccSTP136fXe/g) of244Pu fission xenon, respectively. A radiochemical procedure is described for the simultaneous determination of238Pu,239+240Pu,241Pu,241Am,242Cm,244Cm,89Sr, and90Sr in vegetation samples. The method was applied for the determination of these, radionuclides in grass, collected near Munich after the fallout from the reactor accident at Chernobyl, USSR. The specific activities observed were (in Bq kg–1 dry weight):238Pu, 0.077;239+240Pu, 0.15;241Pu, 3.9;241Am, 0.031;242Cm, 3.0;244Cm, 0.008;89Sr, 2000;90Sr, 99.  相似文献

Transuranium nuclides were produced by irradiating a pellet of natural uranium sulfide in the Japan Material Testing Reactor (JMTR). After irradiation, a successive separation of uranium, plutonium, americium and curium was carried out. The fractional concentrations of the nuclides238Pu,239Pu,240Pu,241Am,243Am,242Cm and244Cm were determined by α-ray spectrometry, and those of241Pu and242mAm were estimated from the build-up of α-emitting daughters,241Am and242Cm, respectively. As the yield of242Pu was too slight to be detected by α-counting, the neutron activation analysis of the plutonium fraction based on the242Pu(n, γ)243Pu reaction was carried out by γ-ray spectrometry, and it was shown that a few pg of242Pu could be determined. A burn-up of235U was also estimated by neutron activation analysis. The experimental results are compared with the calculated ones.  相似文献

The carbonaceous chondrite Allende contains (22±1)·10−12 cm3STP/g of244Pu fission xenon and two kinds of primordial xenon: Type I and Type II. The former represents the isotopic composition of a primordial xenon, which resided in the vicinity of a supernova shortly before it exploded, while the latter represents that of the xenon, which resided in the supernova. The isotopic composition of xenon found in the pink inclusion of the Allende meteorite, corrected for the presence of very large excesses of244Pu fission xenon,129Xe from the decay of129I, and of128Xe from the neutron-capture reactions on127I, resembles that of Type-I primordial xenon. The isotopic composition of xenon found in the diamond inclusions of the Allende meteorite, on the other hand, represents that of Type-II primordial xenon and it resembles that of a mixture of Type-I primordial xenon whose isotopic composition is severely altered by a combined effect of (a) mass-fractionation, (b) spallation, (c) stellar-temperature neutron-capture reactions, and (d) the presence of a large excess of244Pu fission xenon.  相似文献

A radiochemical method has been developed for the determination of238Pu,239, 240Pu,241Am,242Cm and244Cm in airborne effluents of nuclear power plants. The method involves conversion of transuranium elements to acid-soluble forms, dissolution, purification, electrodeposition and alpha spectrometric determination. Final recovery ranged from 69.0 to 75.4% for plutonium and from 26.8 to 68.3% for americium and curium.  相似文献

A procedure for the analysis of90Sr,154Eu,237Np,239Pu,241Am and242−244Cm was developed. Separation was done with the separating agent, di-2(ethyl hexyl)-phosphoric acid (HDEHP), and results in fractions containing the different elements to be analysed.90Sr analysis was done by analysing its daughter nuclide90Y, detected through the Cherenkov radiation emitted by this high energy β-emitter.154Eu was detected using γ-spectrometry with a lower Compton background as a result of the removal of other fission products.241Am could also be detected with γ-spectrometry or together with242−244Cm with α-spectrometry. The long-lived radionuclides237Np and239Pu were detected using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).  相似文献

Determination of239Pu/233U,241Am/233U and244Cm/233U alpha activity ratios is required when using233U as a tracer for the determination of plutonium, americium and curium by alpha spectrometry. Precision and accuracy in the determination of these alpha activity ratios was evaluated by preparing synthetic mixtures from solutions of enriched isotopes of239Pu,241Am,244Cm and233U. Separate synthetic mixtures were prepared for each of the three alpha activity ratios. The sources from the synthetic mixtures were prepared by direct evaporation method using tetra ethylene glycol /TEG/ as a spreading agent, alpha spectra were recorded by employing solid state silicon surface barrier detectors coupled to a 4 K analyzer and the alpha spectra were evaluated by a method based on the geometric progression decrease for the far tail of the spectrum. Large area detector /i.e. 450 mm2/ was observed to reduce the effect of nonhomogeneous distribution, if any, of the two elements present in the source. Precision and accuracy of about 1% is demonstrated for the determination of239Pu/233U,241Am/233U and244Cm/233U alpha activity ratios using large area silicon surface barrier detector.  相似文献

A method based on the geometric progression decrease of the counts in the far tail of the alpha spectrum is described for the simultaneous determination of plutonium, americium and curium by alpha spectrometry. For evaluating the precision and accuracy, synthetic mixtures were prepared from solutions of enriched isotopes and sources were prepared by direct evaporation method using tetraethylene glycol /TEG/ as a spreading agent and electropolished stainless steel discs as the backing material. Precision and accuracy of about 1% is demonstrated in the determination of244Cm/239Pu,241Am/239Pu,244Cm/233U,241Am/233U and239Pu/233U alpha activity ratios using a 450 mm2 silicon surface barrier detector.  相似文献

Re-examination of a vast amount of xenon isotope data which have been accumulated since the 1960s reveals that the so-called CCF (carbonaceous chondrite fission) xenon is a mixture of244Pu fission xenon and a severely mass-fractionated primordial xenon, whose isotopic composition has been further altered by neutron-capture and spallation reactions, which occurred in the vicinity of a supernova that most likely exploded sometime more than 4.8 billion years ago. The integrated flux of 10 KeV (stellar temperature) neutrons to which the xenon was exposed appears to have been in excess of 1023 n/cm2.  相似文献

The deposition of transuranium elements in Sweden following the Chernobyl accident was investigated through the analysis of carpets of lichen-and moss-samples and also air-filters and precipitation. The impact of transuranium elements was small compared to that of radiocesium. The deposition of239+240Pu was, as for other actinides, inhomogeneously distributed and ranged from 0.1% to 100% of the inventory in 1986 from nuclear detonation tests. The activity ratio of239+240Pu/137Cs was between 10–3 and 10–6 in comparison to 10–2 for nuclear test fallout. The activity ratios of241Pu,242Cm,238Pu,243+244Am and239+240Pu were about 86, 14, 0.47, 0.14, and 0.13 respectively, but large variations were observed. The results from Sweden were compared with those found in South Finland, Denmark and Southern Europe. The deposition over Scandinavia originated from the initial explosion at Chernobyl, which contained relatively higher amounts of actinide elements than the second emission, which occurred a few days later and was a result of actions taken to bring the fire under control.  相似文献

An accurate and reliable method has been developed and routinely carried out for the sequential determination of239,240Pu and241Am in environmental samples. After suitable pretreatment.239,240Pu and241Am are separated from other elements by means of the anion exchange resin method. Americium-241 is purified by coprecipitation with calcium oxalate and then ion exchanged in mixed media of the mineral acid-methanol. In the analysis,242Pu (or236Pu) and244Cm are used as chemical yield monitors. The recoveries of the yield monitors in the analyses of some kinds of environmental samples were 7080% for plutonium and 7686% for curium. The concentration of239,240Pu in the coastal sea water were 7.022 Bq/l and that of241Am was 1.26.3 Bq/l. The mean concentrations of239,240Pu in the edible parts of the marine products ranged from 0.22 to 7.4 mBq/kg · fresh and those of241Am ranged from 0.11 to 2.6 mBq/kg · fresh.  相似文献

This paper describes the development and validation of analytical procedures for the separation and determination of90Sr,90Y,238Pu,239/240Pu,241Am,241Cm and243/244Cm in liquid effluents and environmental samples. The procedures use supported reagents for extraction chromatography (reversed phase partition chromatography) that enable the separation of the analytes from a large number of other radionuclides present.  相似文献

Studies of finer details in mass and charge distribution fission leads to a better understanding of the fission process. Experimental determination of independent and cumulative yields using radiochemical techniques as well as mass spectrometers and fission product recoil separators form the basis of such studies. It has been established that closed shells as well as an even number of nucleons influence both mass and charge distributions. The magnitudes of these effects may be estimated from existing experimental yield data and various fission models. Using our measurements of several fission yields and those existing in the literature we have calculated even-odd proton and neutron effects for various low energy fissioning systems. Where enough data existed, direct calculations were made, whereas for other cases the Zp-model of WAHL has been used. It is found that the even-odd proton effect is well established and pronounced in thermal neutron fission of235U and233U. Lesser effects were found for reactor neutron induced fission of232Th, thermal neutron fission of239Pu and spontaneous fission of245Cm and249Cf. No effect seems to exist in the thermal neutron fission of241Pu and the spontaneous fission of252Cf. The even-odd neutron effect is found to be much lower than the corresponding proton effect in235U and233U fissions and is nonexistent in the rest of the fissioning systems.  相似文献

A radiochemical procedure is given for the simultaneous determination of low levels of129I, actinides (Pu, Am, Cm) and90Sr in vegetation samples. It is shown that grass samples up to 5 kg fresh weight can be wet ashed conveniently by hydrogen peroxide under alkaline conditions, subsequent to an initial enzymatic disintegration. After purification of the iodine fraction,129I is determined by neutron activation analysis. Using alpha spectrometry,238Pu and239,240Pu are determined in the plutonium fraction, and241Am,242Cm, and244Cm in the americium/curium fraction. The90Sr is determined after separation by beta counting its decay product90Y.  相似文献

Depth distribution of239,240Pu and137Cs in the soils of South Korea have been studied. The average accumulated depositions were estimated roughly to be 54.8±32.1 Bq·m–2 for239,240Pu, 1.6±1.0 Bq· ·m–2 for238Pu and 1982.8±929.1 Bq·m–2 for137Cs. The activity ratios of239,240Pu/137Cs in soils were found to be in the narrow range of 0.0153 to 0.0364 with a mean value of 0.0230±0.006. The concentrations of239,240Pu and137Cs in soils decrease exponentially with increasing the soil depth. A significant correlation was found between the concentration of239,240Pu and that of137Cs. The activity ratios of239,240Pu/137Cs tend to increase slightly with increasing soil depth.  相似文献

A new system for simultaneous electrodeposition of U, Np, Pu, Am and Cm has been developed. The system consists of (NH4)2C2O4–H2SO4–HCl. The effects on recovery of pH, current density, interfering ions and the amount of added HCl have been studied. The optimum condition for simultaneous electrodeposition of actinides has been recommended. Under the recommended condition recoveries of U, Np, Pu, Am and Cm have been obtained by using232U,237Np,241Am,242Pu and244Cm. The counting sources prepared are uniform, adherent and suitable for -spectrometry.  相似文献

Elemental and isotopic determination of americium and curium in spent nuclear fuels is necessary to validate neutronic calculation codes and for nuclear waste disposal purposes. Prior to mass spectrometric analysis, it is mandatory to perform separations in order to eliminate isobaric interferences between U, Pu, Am and Cm. In the spent fuels samples analyzed, a separation of U and Pu has been first realized with an anion-exchange resin. Then a rapid Am/Cm separation has been developed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with an on-line detection using the Am and Cm α-emission. The influence of the different parameters on the chromatographic separation are described and discussed. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and thermal-ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) have been used to measure the isotopic composition of U, Am and Cm and to determine the 241Am/238U and 244Cm/238U ratios with the double spike isotope dilution method. The measurement procedures and the accuracy and precision of the results obtained with a quadrupole ICP-MS on different spent fuels samples are discussed and compared with those obtained by TIMS, used as a reference technique.
