The analysis of singly-charmed hadrons has been extended to the case of doubly-charmed baryons, , and . Doubly-charmed baryons are described as a system containing a heavy cc diquark and a light quark, as in the case of a heavy–light meson. This leads to preasymptotic effects in semileptonic and nonleptonic decays that are essentially proportional to the meson wave function. Interplay between preasymptotic effects in semileptonic and/or nonleptonic decay rates leads to very clear predictions for semileptonic branching ratios and lifetimes of doubly-charmed baryons. A search for pair-produced sfermions, the scalar supersymmetric partners of the Standard Model fermions, under the assumption that R-parity is not conserved has been performed using data collected with the OPAL detector at LEP. The data samples analysed correspond to an integrated luminosity of about 610 pb-1 collected at centre-of-mass energies of GeV. An important consequence of R-parity violation is that the lightest supersymmetric particle is expected to be unstable. Searches for R-parity violating decays of charged sleptons, sneutrinos and squarks have been performed under the assumptions that the lightest supersymmetric particle decays promptly and that only one of the R-parity violating couplings is dominant for each of the decay modes considered. Such processes would yield final states consisting of leptons, jets, or both, with or without missing energy. No significant signal-like excess of events has been observed with respect to the Standard Model expectations. Limits on the production cross-sections of sfermions in R-parity violating scenarios are obtained. Constraints on the supersymmetric particle masses are also presented in an R-parity violating framework analogous to the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.Received: 25 June 2003, Published online: 13 February 2004  相似文献

B physics at LEP
Tariq Aziz 《Pramana》1995,45(Z1):1-31
The Z factory at LEP is like a mini B factory. About 20% of the time a Z decays to a pair of b flavoured hadrons. As a result, this has provided a major boost to B physics studies. The four sophisticated LEP detectors, with millions of Z events, have provided a variety of interesting results. Only a snapshot of the major developments can be covered in one review. We have considered the results related to coupling, in particular, the measurements of Rbbhad the forward backward charge asymmetry. The b hadron properties, like inclusive and exclusive lifetime measurements are summarised briefly. Measurements of oscillation parameter as well as the evidence for time dependent evolution have been discussed. Studies of interesting decay modes have been mentioned.  相似文献

A search for pair produced scalar fermions with couplings that violate R-parity has been performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 56 pb at a centre-of-mass energy of 183 GeV collected with the OPAL detector at LEP. An important consequence of R-parity breaking interactions is that the lightest supersymmetric particle is expected to be unstable. Searches for R-parity violating decays of charged sleptons, sneutrinos and stop quarks have been performed under the assumptions that the lightest supersymmetric particle decays promptly and that only one of the R-parity violating couplings is dominant for each of the decay modes considered. Such processes would yield multi-leptons, jets plus leptons or multi-jets, with or without missing energy, in the final state. No significant excess of such events has been observed. Limits on the production cross-sections of scalar fermions in R-parity violating scenarios are obtained. Mass exclusion regions are also presented in the framework of the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Received: 16 March 1999 / Published online: 14 October 1999  相似文献

Bose-Einstein correlations are studied in pairs of charged pions from hadronic Z decays, collected by the ALEPH detector. The correlation function, measured using either the unlike-sign or the mixed reference sample, is studied in terms of the Lorentz-invariant four-momentum difference and its transverse, Q T, and longitudinal, Q L, components with respect to the longitudinal centre-of-mass system. Values for the correlation radii, R T and R L, are obtained from the fit of the Goldhaber parametrisation. The results indicate that the correlation radii values depend on the chosen kind of reference sample and on the two-jet purity.Received: 23 April 2004, Revised: 11 May 2004, Published online: 9 July 2004  相似文献

Searches for pair-produced charginos and neutralinos with R-parity violating decays have been performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 56 pb collected with the OPAL detector at LEP at a centre-of-mass energy of 183 GeV. An important consequence of R-parity violation is that the lightest supersymmetric particle becomes unstable. The searches have been performed under the assumptions that the lightest supersymmetric particle promptly decays and that only one R-parity violating coupling is dominant for each of the decay modes considered. Such processes would yield multiple leptons, jets plus leptons, or multiple jets with or without significant missing energy in the final state. No excess of such events above Standard Model backgrounds has been observed. Limits are presented on the production cross-sections of gauginos in R-parity violating scenarios. Using the ARGUS detector at the e+e storage ring DORIS II, we have observed charmless decays of B mesons into the final states pp̄π± and pp̄π+π. The significance of the signal corresponds to more than five standard deviations. The branching ratios are (5.2±1.4±1.9)×10−4 for the three-body and (6.0±2.0±2.2)×10−4 for the four-body final state. These decays cannot proceed via the dominant b→c transitions, and we show that they are not the result of penguin-type processes. Thus, the observed decays must represent b→u quark transitions. Consequently, the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element Vub is non-zero.  相似文献

Using 449x10(6) BB[over ] pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider, we observe clear signals for B(+)-->K[over ](0)K(+) and B(0)-->K[over ](0)K(0) decays with 5.3sigma and 6.0sigma significance, respectively. We measure the branching fractions B(B(+)-->K[over ](0)K(+))=(1.22(-0.28-0.16)(+0.32+0.13))x10(-6) and B(B(0)-->K[over ](0)K(0))=(0.87(-0.20)(+0.25)+/-0.09)x10(-6), and partial-rate asymmetries A(CP)(B(+)-->K[over ](0)K(+))=0.13(-0.24)(+0.23)+/-0.02 and A(CP)(B(0)-->K[over ](0)K(0))=-0.58(-0.66)(+0.73)+/-0.04. From a simultaneous fit, we also obtain B(B(+)-->K(0)pi(+))=(22.8(-0.7)(+0.8)+/-1.3)x10(-6) and A(CP)(B(+)-->K(0)pi(+))=0.03+/-0.03+/-0.01. The first and second error in the branching fractions and the partial-rate asymmetries are statistical and systematic, respectively. No signal is observed for B(0)-->K(+)K(-) decays, and for this branching fraction, we set an upper limit of 4.1x10(-7) at the 90% confidence level.  相似文献

We report observations of the Cabibbo suppressed decays B-->D((*))K- using a 10.4 fb(-1) data sample accumulated at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) storage ring. We find that the ratios of Cabibbo suppressed to Cabibbo favored branching fractions are B(B--->D0K-)/B(B--->D0pi(-)) = 0.079+/-0.009+/-0.006, B(B(0)-->D+K-)/B(B(0)-->D+pi(-)) = 0.068+/-0.015+/-0.007, B(B--->D(*0)K-)/B(B--->D(*0)pi(-)) = 0.078+/-0.019+/-0.009, and B(B(0)-->D(*+)K-)/B(B(0)-->D(*+)pi(-)) = 0.074+/-0.015+/-0.006. These are the first observations of the B-->D+K-, D(*0)K-, and D(*+)K- decay processes.  相似文献

A study of quark hadronisation is presented using inclusively reconstructed B hadrons in about four million hadronic Z decays recorded in 1992-2000 with the OPAL detector at LEP. The data are compared to different theoretical models, and fragmentation function parameters of these models are fitted. The average scaled energy of weakly decaying B hadrons is determined to be

Muon bremsstrahlung photons converted in front of the DELPHI main tracker (TPC) in dimuon events at LEP1 were studied in two photon kinematic ranges: 0.2<E γ ≤1 GeV and transverse momentum with respect to the parent muon p T <40 MeV/c, and 1<E γ ≤10 GeV and p T <80 MeV/c. A good agreement of the observed photon rate with predictions from QED for the muon inner bremsstrahlung was found, contrary to the anomalous soft photon excess that has been observed recently in hadronic Z 0 decays. The obtained ratios of the observed signal to the predicted level of the muon bremsstrahlung are 1.06±0.12±0.07 in the photon energy range 0.2<E γ ≤1 GeV and 1.04±0.09±0.12 in the photon energy range 1<E γ ≤10 GeV. The bremsstrahlung dead cone is observed for the first time in the direct photon production at LEP. Deceased.  相似文献

We study the decays of Higgs bosons to a lighter Higgs boson and a virtual gauge boson in the context of the non-supersymmetric two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM). We consider the phenomenological impact at LEP2 and find that such decays, when open, may be dominant in regions of parameter space and thus affect current Higgs boson search techniques. Three-body decays would be a way of producing light neutral Higgs bosons which have so far escaped detection at LEP due to suppressed couplings to the Z, and are of particular importance in the 2HDM (Model I) which allows both a light fermiophobic Higgs and a light charged scalar.  相似文献

From the analysis of a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.63 pb–1 taken during the 1990 run of LEP at centre of mass energies between 88.2 GeV an 94.2 GeV, the tau decays and their charge conjugates have been studied. The following branching ratios have been measured; , , Br( (K)v)=11.9±0.7±0.7%, BR ( v)= 22.4±0.8±1.3%, in good agreement with world averages. The measured electronic and muonic branching ratios lead to a measurement of the strong coupling constant, s (m) = 0.26 –0.12 +0.09 . Extrapolating the s value fromm tom Z yields s (mZ) = 0.109 –0.028 +0.012 .The average polarizationP of taus produced in Z s s decays has also been measured using the above decay modes. The weighted mean of the polarizations obtained from the four decay modes isP =–0.24±0.07. This value ofP gives, in the improved Born approximation, a ratio between the axial and vector coupling constants of the tau of /a = 0.12 ± 0.04, and hence a value of the effective electroweak mixing parameter sin2 W(m Z 2 ).  相似文献

A search for neutral Higgs bosons has been performed using the full sample of Z0 decays collected by the OPAL detector at LEP up to 1995. The data were taken at centre-of-mass energies between 88 GeV and 95 GeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of approximately 160 pb?1. The present search addresses the processes Z0→H0Z* and h0Z*, where H0 is the Higgs boson predicted by the Standard Model and h0 the lightest neutral scalar Higgs boson predicted in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. For the virtual Z0 boson, Z*, the following decay channels are considered: Z*→vv?, e+e? and μ+μ?. Two candidate events have been found in the vv?H0 channel and one in the μ+μ?H0 channel. Combined with earlier searches, the present search excludes the SM Higgs boson, at the 95% confidence level (CL), from the mass range below 59.6 GeV. In the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, allowing a wide range of variation for most relevant model parameters, a 95% CL lower limit of 44.3 GeV is obtained for the mass of the h0 boson. Combined with earlier direct searches for the Higgs boson pair production process Z0→h0A0 and with measurements of the Z0 line shape, a 95% CL lower limit of 23.5 GeV is obtained for the mass of the pseudoscalar Higgs boson A0, assuming tan β≥ 1.  相似文献

The branching ratio of beauty hadrons to final states containing two charm hadrons, Br(b , has been measured using an inclusive method in hadronic Z0 decays with the OPAL detector at LEP. The impact parameter significance of tracks opposite tagged b-jets is used to differentiate b decays from other decays. The result is where det. is the systematic uncertainty due to the modelling of the detector, and is the systematic uncertainty due to the modelling of the underlying physics. Using this result, the average number of charm plus anti-charm quarks produced in a beauty quark decay, nc, is found to be 1.12 + 0.11-0.10.Received: 11 July 2003, Published online: 18 May 2004  相似文献

We report on our search for decays proceeding via a tree-level b-->c quark transition in which a gluon radiates into an ss[over ] pair. We present observations of the decays B;{-}-->D_{s};{+}K;{-}pi;{-} and B[over ];{0}-->D_{s};{+}K_{S};{0}pi;{-} and evidence for B;{-}-->D_{s};{+}K;{-}K;{-} and set upper limits on the branching fractions for B[over ];{0}-->D_{s};{+}K_{S};{0}pi;{-} and B;{-}-->D_{s};{+}K;{-}K;{-} using 383x10;{6} Upsilon(4S)-->BB[over ] events collected by the BABAR detector at SLAC. We present evidence that the invariant mass distributions of D_{s};{+}K;{-} pairs from B;{-}-->D_{s};{+}K;{-}pi;{-} decays are inconsistent with the phase-space model, suggesting the presence of charm resonances lying below the D_{s};{+}K;{-} threshold.  相似文献

We present measurements of the time-dependent CP-violation parameters S and C in B(0) --> eta(')K(0) decays. The data sample corresponds to 384 x 10(6) BB pairs produced by e(+)e(-) annihilation at the Upsilon(4S). The results are S=0.58+/-0.10+/-0.03 and C=-0.16+/-0.07+/-0.03. We observe mixing-induced CP violation with a significance of 5.5 standard deviations in this b --> s penguin dominated mode.  相似文献

Experimental results of investigation of two-photon interactions at LEP (CERN) are presented. Experimental conditions provided a possibility of investigation of the whole set of two-photon interactions from the production of lepton pairs in collisions of quasi-real photons to interactions of high-virtual photons.  相似文献
