Polyurethane/organically modified montmorillonite (PU/O‐MMT) nanocomposites were electrospun and the effect of O‐MMT on the morphology and physical properties of the PU/O‐MMT nanofiber mats were investigated for the first time. The average diameters of the PU/O‐MMT nanofibers were ranged from 150 to 410 nm. The conductivities of the PU/O‐MMT solutions were linearly increased with increasing the content of O‐MMT, which caused a decrease in the average diameters of the PU/O‐MMT nanofibers. The as‐electrospun PU and PU/O‐MMT nanofibers were not microphase separated. The exfoliated MMT layers were well distributed within the PU/O‐MMT nanofibers and oriented along the fiber axis. When the PU/O‐MMT nanofibers were annealed, the exfoliated MMT layers hindered the microphase separation of the PU. The electrospinning of PU/O‐MMT nanocomposites resulted in PU nanofiber mats with improved Young's modulus and tensile strength. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, we have aimed to mechanically characterize the nylon 6 single nanofiber and nanofiber mats. We have started by providing a critical review of the developed mechanical characterization testing methods of single nanofiber. It has been found that the tensile test method provides information about the mechanical properties of the nanofiber such as tensile strength, elastic modulus and strain at break. We have carried out a tensile test for nanofiber/composite MWCNTs nanofiber mats to further characterize the effect of the MWCNTs filling fiber architecture. In addition, we have designed and implemented a novel simple laboratory set‐up for performing tensile test of single nanofibers. As a result, we have established the stress–strain curve for single nylon 6 nanofibers allowing us to define the tensile strength, axial tensile modulus and ultimate strain of this nanofiber. The compared values of the tensile strength, axial modulus and ultimate strain for nylon 6 nanofiber with those of conventional nylon 6 microfiber have indicated that some of the nylon 6 nanofiber molecule chains have not been oriented well along the nanofiber axis during electrospinning and through the alignment mechanism. Finally, we have explained how we can improve the mechanical properties of nylon 6 nanofibers and discussed how to overcome the tensile testing challenges of single nanofibers. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(aniline‐co‐ethyl 3‐aminobenzoate) (3EABPANI) copolymer was blended with poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and co‐electrospun into nanofibers to investigate its potential in biomedical applications. The relationship between electrospinning parameters and fiber diameter has been investigated. The mechanical and electrical properties of electrospun 3EABPANI‐PLA nanofibers were also evaluated. To assess cell morphology and biocompatibility, nanofibrous mats of pure PLA and 3EABPANI‐PLA were deposited on glass substrates and the proliferation of COS‐1 fibroblast cells on the nanofibrous polymer surfaces determined. The nanofibrous 3EABPANI‐PLA blends were easily fabricated by electrospinning and gave enhanced mammalian cell growth, antioxidant and antimicrobial capabilities, and electrical conductivity. These results suggest that 3EABPANI‐PLA nanofibrous blends might provide a novel bioactive conductive material for biomedical applications. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nylon‐6,6 nanofibers were electrospun at an elongation rate of the order of 1000 s?1 and a cross‐sectional area reduction of the order of 0.33 × 105. The influence of these process peculiarities on the intrinsic structure and mechanical properties of the electrospun nanofibers is studied in the present work. Individual electrospun nanofibers with an average diameter of 550 nm were collected at take‐up velocities of 5 and 20 m/s and subsequently tested to assess their overall stress–strain characteristics; the testing included an evaluation of Young's modulus and the nanofibers' mechanical strength. The results for the as‐spun nanofibers were compared to the stress–strain characteristics of the melt‐extruded microfibers, which underwent postprocessing. For the nanofibers that were collected at 5 m/s the average elongation‐at‐break was 66%, the mechanical strength was 110 MPa, and Young's modulus was 453 MPa, for take‐up velocity of 20 m/s—61%, 150 and 950 MPa, respectively. The nanofibers displayed α‐crystalline phase (with triclinic cell structure). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 44: 1482–1489, 2006 相似文献

Mats of highly oriented poly(vinylidene fluoride) nanofibers were electrospun by means of a conventional electrospinning equipment; the orientation, however, was obtained using a disk collector rotating at a speed of 4000 rpm and a device that reduced the influence of air displacement during nanofiber orientation. Thermal transitions of the mats were determined by differential scanning calorimetry, the predominant crystalline phase by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and wide‐angle X‐ray scattering and the nanofiber orientation and morphology by scanning electron microscopy. Relative permittivity, loss index, stable remnant polarization, and coercive field of the mats were also determined and compared with those obtained for a mat electrospun at 2000 rpm and an oriented commercial film. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The potential of carbonized electrospun nanofiber mats to render epoxy resin composites for aircraft applications electrically and thermally more conductive was investigated. The effect of carbon nanotube inclusion both inside the carbon nanofiber and in the epoxy resin matrix material was studied, in order to reveal any synergistic effects of multilevel presence of nanosized reinforcements on the conductivity and mechanical properties. The carbon nanotube inclusion into the carbonized nanofibers increased the electrical conductivity of the samples by 20–50% and the thermal conductivity by approximately three times leading to a higher value than that of the conventional composites. The preparation of layered composites with a conductive upper layer containing nonwoven carbon nanofabric and a load bearing lower layer with conventional unidirectional carbon fiber reinforcement can offer a cost‐effective and weight‐saving solution for the replacement of metal meshes in structural aircraft composites. The effect of the side‐chain length (short side chain and long side chain, SSC and LSC, respectively) of perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) ionomers on the properties of nanofibers obtained by electrospinning ionomer dispersions in high dielectric constant liquids has been investigated with a view to obtaining electrospun webs as components of fuel cell membranes. Ranges of experimental conditions for electrospinning LSC and SSC PFSAs have been explored, with a scoping of solvents, carrier polymer and PFSA ionomer concentrations, and carrier polymer molecular weight. Under optimal conditions, the electrospun mats derived from SSC and from LSC PFSA show distinct fiber dimensions that arise from the different chain lengths of the respective ionomers. Enhanced interchain interactions in SSC PFSA with low equivalent weight compared to LSC PFSA result in a considerably lower average fiber diameter and a markedly narrower fiber size distribution. The proton conductivity of nanofiber mats of SSC and LSC PFSA with equivalent weights of 830 and 900 g mol?1, respectively, are 102 and 58 mS cm?1 at 80°C and 95% relative humidity. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The morphology, structure, and properties of polyethylene terephthalate (PET)/Carbon Nanotubes (CNT) conductive nanoweb were studied in this article. Nanocomposite nanofibers were obtained through electrospinning of PET solutions in trifluoroacetic acid (TFA)/dichloromethane (DCM) containing different concentrations and types of CNTs. Electrical conductivity measurements on nanofiber mats showed an electrical percolation threshold around 2 wt % multi‐wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). The morphological analysis results showed smoother nanofibers with less bead structures development when using a rotating drum collector especially at high concentrations of CNTs. From crystallographic measurements, a higher degree of crystallinity was observed with increasing CNT concentrations above electrical percolation. Spectroscopy results showed that both PET and CNT orientation increased with the level of alignment of the nanofibers when the nanotube concentration was below the electrical percolation threshold; while the orientation factor was reduced for aligned nanofibers with higher content in CNT. Considerable enhancement in mechanical properties, especially tensile modulus, was found in aligned nanofibers; at least six times higher than the modulus of random nanofibers at concentrations below percolation. The effect of alignment on the mechanical properties was less important at higher concentrations of CNTs, above the percolation threshold. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, we demonstrate the fabrication of an electrochemically active nanofiber mat that is a composite of high‐performance poly(imide sulfonate) (PIS) and polyaniline (PANI). First, a nonconductive nanofiber mat comprising nanofibers having diameters of ca. 300 nm was fabricated by the electrospinning of ionomeric PIS in N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF). Then, the nanofibers were modified using PANI, which was synthesized by the oxidative polymerization of aniline, yielding an electrochemically active nanofiber mat having a diameter of ca. 350 nm. It was confirmed that PANI was successfully incorporated onto the PIS nanofiber mats by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Subsequently, we conducted electrochemical measurements of the PANI‐modified nanofiber mats using a tailor‐made attachment in which the working electrode gently comes in contact with the nanofiber mat surface. This attachment was observed to be widely useful in the cyclic voltammetry measurements related to redox‐active nanofibers. These observations are expected to contribute to the advancements in application development of the electrochemically active nanofiber mats. 相似文献

Segmented polyurethane (SPU) nanofiber mats were prepared by electrospinning technique using the combination of four different solvents viz. tetrahydrofuran, N,N′‐dimethyl formamide, N,N′‐dimethyl acetamide, and dimethyl sulfoxide. Morphology of the electrospun nanofibers was examined by field emission scanning electron microscope. Experimental results revealed that the morphologies of polyurethane nanofiber mats have been changed significantly with the solvent selection for the electrospinning. It was observed that the diameters and morphology of the SPU nanofibers were influenced greatly by the use of combination of solvents. The uniform polyurethane nanofibers without beads or curls could be prepared by electrospinning through the selection of combination of good conductive and good volatile solvent viz. 7.5 wt/v% of SPU in N,N′‐dimethyl formamide/tetrahydrofuran (30 : 70 v/v) solutions at 20 kV applied voltages and volume flow rate of 1 ml/min. On the basis of the results obtained from this investigation, it has been established that solvent selection is one of the driving factors for controlling the morphology of the polyurethane electrospun nanofiber mats. The well‐controlled morphology of electrospun polyurethane nanofiber mats could be useful for many potential industrial applications such as in biomedical, smart textiles, nanofiltration, and sensors. Electrospun thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) copolymer nanofiber mats are known to contract considerably upon heating up to ~90 °C, whereas cast TPU films expand as expected. This work examined contraction in single electrospun nanofibers. In contrast to nanofiber mats, where mat contraction appears like a critical phenomenon, no temperature threshold for contraction was measured for a single electrospun nanofiber. Unexpectedly, we demonstrate that cast TPU films can also massively contract upon heating, but only after thermomechanical programming which relies on film stretching (~100%) at a high temperature (~90 °C). This nonequilibrium stretched state is highly preserved, despite sample temperatures that significantly exceeded the glass transition temperature of the soft phase, and hard segments concentration in the TPU macromolecules is too low to form a percolated “solid” system. A possible physical explanation of the observed phenomenon is proposed. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Phys. 2015 , 53, 1254–1259 相似文献

A facile spinning‐based strategy was developed to fabricate chitosan (CS) surface nanofiber‐based affinity membranes for protein adsorption. The core–shell nanofiber mat of nylon 6–CS was prepared via coaxial solution blowing process. The nanofibers have a diameter range of 60–300 nm. The core–shell structure was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, and CS was observed as a thin layer that uniformly adhered to the core. The dye ligand of cibacron blue F3GA (CB F3GA) was further covalently immobilized on the nanofibers with a content of 425 µmol/g. The pristine and CB F3GA‐attached mats were studied in protein adsorption. High bovine serum albumin adsorption capacities of 91.9 and 219.6 mg/g were obtained for pristine and CB F3GA‐attached mats, respectively. Given its properties of high flux rate and low pressure drop, CB F3GA‐attached nylon 6–CS nanofiber mat meets the requirements of highly effective affinity membrane chromatography. Electrospun nanofiber mats are inherently weak, and hence they are often deposited on mechanically-strong substrates such
as porous woven fabrics that can provide good structural support without altering the nanofiber characteristics. One major
challenge of this approach is to ensure good adhesion of nanofiber mats onto the substrates and to achieve satisfactory durability
of nanofiber mats against flexion and abrasion during practical use. In this work, Nylon 6 nanofibers were deposited on plasma-pretreated
woven fabric substrates through a new plasma-electrospinning hybrid process with the objective of improving adhesion between
nanofibers and fabric substrates. The as-prepared Nylon 6 nanofiber-deposited woven fabrics were evaluated for adhesion strength
and durability of nanofiber mats by carrying out peel strength and flex resistance tests. The test results showed significant
improvement in the adhesion of nanofiber mats on woven fabric substrates. The nanofiber-deposited woven fabrics also exhibited
good resistance to damage under repetitive flexion. X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy and water contact angle analyses were
conducted to study the plasma effect on the nanofibers and substrate fabric, and the results suggested that both the plasma
pretreatment and plasma-electrospinning hybrid process introduced radicals, increased oxygen contents, and led to the formation
of active chemical sites on the nanofiber and substrate surfaces. These active sites helped in creating crosslinking bonds
between substrate fabric and electrospun nanofibers, which in turn increased the adhesion properties. The work demonstrates
that the plasma-electrospinning hybrid process of nanofiber mats is a promising method to prepare durable functional materials. 相似文献

This pilot study elaborates the development of novel epoxy/electrospun polylactic acid (PLA) nanofiber composites at the fiber contents of 3, 5, and 10 wt % to evaluate their mechanical and thermal properties using flexural tests and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The flexural moduli of composites increase remarkably by 50.8 and 24.0% for 5 and 10 wt % fiber contents, respectively, relative to that of neat epoxy. Furthermore, a similar trend is also shown for corresponding flexural strengths being enhanced by 31.6 and 4.8%. Fractured surface morphology with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirms a full permeation of cured epoxy matrix into nanofiber structures and existence of nondestructive fibrous networks inside large void cavities. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of composites increases up to 54–60 °C due to embedded electrospun nanofibers compared to 50 °C for that of epoxy, indicating that fibrous networks may further restrict the intermolecular mobility of matrix in thermal effects. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ZnO nanofibers were prepared from zinc acetate/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) by electrospun method. The morphological features,
crystallinity, mechanical and optical properties of the ZnO nanofibers were studied. The results show the specific surface
area of the ZnO nanofibers was influenced by the electrospun conditions. The specific surface area reached 389.7 m2g−1 as the average diameter was 232 nm. The XRD date reveals the nanofibers consist of a single phase of well-crystallized ZnO
with hexagonal structure. The elastic modulus of a single ZnO nanofiber was also characterized by nano-scale three-point bending

The focus of this work is the preparation of aramid nanofibers via electrospinning technology and the study of their adsorption properties. In this article, aramid nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning aramid fibers solution with the addition of lithium chloride (LiCl). It showed a good adsorption capacity when methylene blue (MB) was used as the model target. There were much larger adsorption amounts and faster kinetics of uptaking target species of electrospun aramid nanofibers to MB than that of electrospun polyethersulfone (PES) nanofibers. Compared with activated carbon, aramid nanofibers also have a much faster adsorption rate to MB. Aramid nanofibers were subsequently used to effectively remove endocrine disruptors such as bisphenol A (BPA), phenol (Phe), and p‐hydroquinone (BPhe) from their aqueous solutions. Additionally, molecule imprinted technology enhances aramid nanofibers with much higher adsorption amounts and special adsorption property for endocrine disruptors. These results showed that aramid nanofibers have the potential to be used in environmental applications. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys, 2012 相似文献

Electrospinning is a powerful technique to produce nanofibers of tunable diameter and morphology for medicine and biotechnological applications. By doping electrospun nanofibers with inorganic and organic compounds, new functionalities can be provided for technological applications. Herein, we report a study on the morphology and optical properties of electrospun nanofibers based on the conjugated polymer poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(2‐ethylhexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] (MEH‐PPV) and poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA). Initially, we investigate the influence of the solvent, surfactant, and the polymer concentration on electrospinning of PMMA. After determining the best conditions, 0.1% MEH‐PPV was added to obtain fluorescent nanofibers. The optical characterizations display the successful impregnation of MEH‐PPV into the PMMA fibers without phase separation and the preservation of fluorescent property after fiber electrospinning. The obtained results show the ability of the electrospinning approach to obtain fluorescent PMMA/MEH‐PPV nanofibers with potential for optical devices applications. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. We proposed a thought of active capture of particles by improving the interaction force between fibers and particles. Nanoparticle‐enhanced tubular nanofibers (Ag‐SPNTs) were prepared by template‐free cationic polymerization followed by surface modification. Ag‐SPNTs have coarse surface and bamboo‐like tubular structure with a diameter of approximately 80‐150 nm. Ag nanoparticles were embedded on the nanofibers surface, and the content of Ag nanoparticles in the nanofibers could be tuned by changing the concentration of [Ag(NH3)2]+ in the preparation process. f‐d curve measured by AFM showed that increasing the content of Ag nanoparticles in the nanofibers resulted in the enhanced interaction force between the nanofiber surface and particles. Particle matter capture test showed that the number of captured microscaled/naonoscaled particles on the fiber surface increased obviously for the nanoparticle‐enhanced tubular nanofibers (Ag‐SPNTs) compared to the nanofibers without nanoparticle (SPNTs), probably due to the increased interaction force and adhesion energy between fiber surface and particles. Filtration property test showed that the Ag‐SPNTs fiber films had a better filtration performance with a higher filter efficiency and QF value than that of SPNTs. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), Nylon 6, and Nylon 6,6 have been electrospun successfully. The nanofibers have been characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), confirming the presence of bead free and fiber‐bead free morphologies. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) indicated differences between the thermal stability of PMMA nanofibers and PMMA powder. However, no significant differences were observed between the starting physical form (powder or pellet) of PVC, Nylon 6 and Nylon 6,6, and their corresponding electrospun nanofibers. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) demonstrated a lower glass transition temperature (Tg) and water absorption for PMMA electrospun nanofibers. Furthermore, electrospun Nylon 6 and Nylon 6,6 had a slight decrease in crystallinity. Tensile testing was performed on the electrospun nanofibers to obtain the Young modulus, peak stress, strain at break, and energy to break, revealing that the non‐woven mats obtained had modest mechanical properties that need to be enhanced. This study addresses the inherent issues surrounding surface modification methods of nanofibers and proposes an environmentally friendly and less toxic strategy for the surface modification of hydrophilic nanofiber. From the continuation of our previous work, which discussed the easy production of nanofiber (average size: 127 nm) from oil palm mesocarp fiber (OPMF), in this work, the surface of nanofibers (M‐IL‐OPMF) were modified through vapor‐phase‐assisted surface polymerization (VASP) to improve the affinity of interface between the polymer grafted M‐IL‐OPMF and non‐polar matrix. VASP of ε‐caprolactone was successfully proceeded from the [M‐IL‐OPMF] at 70 °C for 24 h and 72 h, and compositions were estimated to be 35.7% fiber/64.3% polymer and 27.8% fiber/72.2% polymer. To confirm the grafting of PCL, size‐exclusion chromatography (SEC) and Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetry (TG), and dispersibility test in hydrophobic solvent were carried out. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
