We present a systematic investigation of the effect of spin-orbit interaction on optical conductivity in monolayer graphene. Our key findings are: (i) level splitting at various crystal symmetry points caused by true spin as well as pseudospin of the electrons gives rise to a resonant current response; (ii) under heavy doping, the spin-orbit interaction leads to a re-entrance of finite conductivity at very low frequency which was strictly forbidden in the absence of spin-orbit coupling; (iii) deformation of band structure and the topological properties of trigonal warping are analytically identified in a low-energy conical-like approximation.  相似文献

We have studied a quantum dot with Rashba spin-orbit interaction in noncommutative phase space. The energy eigenvalues are analogous to Landau energy levels. It is shown that this system is related with a physically realizable model of a quantum dot with Rashba spin-orbit interaction in a magnetic field whereby a relation is derived among the noncommutative parameters, spin-orbit coupling strength and magnetic field.  相似文献

We show that the spin-Hall conductivity in insulators is related to a magnetic susceptibility representing the strength of the spin-orbit coupling. We use this relationship as a guiding principle to search real materials showing quantum spin-Hall effect. As a result, we theoretically predict that two-dimensional bismuth will show the quantum spin-Hall effect, both by calculating the helical edge states, and by showing the nontriviality of the Z2 topological number, and propose possible experiments.  相似文献

An expression for the induced spin-orbit potential in a heavy-ion collision is derived by making and adiabatic approximation to the effective interaction in second-order perturbation theory. An explicit form for the induced spin-orbit interaction for the case of a projectile of arbitrary ground state spin S is given and is shown to be equivalent to the result obtained using the methods of geometrical magnetism.  相似文献

We present results on the effects of spin-orbit coupling on the electronic structure of few-electron interacting quantum dots. The ground-state properties as a function of the number of electrons in the dot N are calculated by means of spin-density functional theory. We find a suppression of Hund's rule due to the competition of the Rashba effect and exchange interaction. Introducing an in-plane Zeeman field leads to a paramagnetic behavior of the dot in a closed-shell configuration and to spin texture in space.  相似文献

Two frequency stabilized dye lasers and a sodium atomic beam are used to study the Autler-Townes effect in the aligned 3S12, F = 2, MF = 2 → 3P32, F = 3, MF = 3, → 4D52, F = 4, MF = 4 states. This system is to a very good approximation an isolated three-level atom. The Autler-Townes doublet splittings are measured as a function of the intensities of the two lasers and their detunings from resonance. The experimental results are in good agreement with theory.  相似文献

Motivated by recent experiments carried out by Spielman's group at NIST, we study a general scheme for generating families of gauge fields, spanning the scalar, spin-orbit, and non-Abelian regimes. The NIST experiments, which impart momentum to bosons while changing their spin state, can in principle realize all these. In the spin-orbit regime, we show that a Bose gas is a spinor condensate made up of two non-orthogonal dressed spin states carrying different momenta. As a result, its density shows a stripe structure with a contrast proportional to the overlap of the dressed states, which can be made very pronounced by adjusting the experimental parameters.  相似文献

A spin-dependent interaction in hadrons is considered in the approach of the QCD string. The string moment of inertia, which ensures the correct (inverse) Regge slope 2πσ, is found to suppress the spin-orbit interaction. For light quarks and moderate angular momenta, the suppression constitutes around 25%, whereas for large angular momenta the spin-orbit interaction is suppressed by the factor L −2/5. For heavy quarks, the effect manifests itself as a string correction for the spin-dependent potential. The text was submitted by the authors in English.  相似文献

The spin-orbit splittings in the spectra of nuclei with A = 5, 15, and 17 have been restudied, with a new set of matrix elements, within the framework of the shell model with core excitations. Investigated are the dependences of these splittings on core-excitation and on some of the different components of the nucleon- nucleon interaction. Our work confirms that the two-body spin-orbit interaction has a major effect whose magnitude depends on the size of the model space that is used. The effect of the tensor interaction is again seen to be considerably less important.  相似文献

The effect of the spin-orbit interaction of graphene electrons placed on a Ni (111) surface on the dynamics ultimately short pulses is considered. The dispersion law of electrons in graphene is calculated on the basis of the Rashba Hamiltonian. We study graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with armchair edges in the presence of Rashba spin- orbit interactions (RSOI). We impose the boundary conditions on the tight binding Hamiltonians for bulk graphene with RSOI by means of a sine transform and study the influence of RSOI on the spectra and the spin polarization in detail. We derive the low energy approximation of the RSOI Hamiltonian for the zeroth and first order in momentum and test their ranges of validity. The choice of a basis appropriate for armchair boundaries is important in the case of mode-coupling effects and leads to results that are easy to work with.  相似文献

The baryon-baryon spin-orbit interactions are studied within the framework of a nonrelativistic quark-cluster model. The origin of the spin-orbit interactions is taken to be the Galilei-invariant part of the spin-orbit term in the one-gluon-exchange potential between quarks. It gives, for example, the NN spin-orbit interaction which is qualitatively similar to the empirical ones. The baryon-nucleus spin-orbit interactions are also considered along this line. The N- and Σ-nucleus spin-orbit interactions are of comparable strength, while the Λ-nucleus spin-orbit interaction is weak. The main origin of the difference between the Λ -nucleus and Σ-nucleus spin-orbit interactions is the presence of the comparatively strong antisymmetric LS (ALS) terms for both NΛ and NΣ interactions but with opposite signs. Other sources of the spin-orbit interactions are briefly discussed in connection with the problem of the spin-orbit effect in the excited baryon spectra.  相似文献

A new type of spin waves that appear in cold paramagnetic gases owing to the spin-orbit interaction has been predicted. The Boltzmann gases of heavy atoms with a nonzero orbital angular momentum are considered. The Hall conductance of a two-dimensional electronic system with Rashba spin-orbit coupling in the presence of an external periodic potential of a superlattice and a perpendicular magnetic field has been calculated. The calculations were performed for an electron gas with parameters typical both of a system with weak spin-orbit coupling (AlGaAs/GaAs) and a system with relatively strong Rashba coupling (InGaAs/InAs).  相似文献
