The production of electrons by bottom and charm hadrons has been studied in e+e? annihilation at 34.6 GeV center of mass energy. It is observed that the b quark fragmentation function is peaked at large values of the scaling variable z with 〈zb〉 = 0.84+0.15 + 0.15?0.10 ? 0.11. For c quarks 〈zc〉 = 0.57+0.10 + 0.05?0.09 ? 0.06 is observed. A forward-backward charge asymmetry of A = ?0.25 ± 0.22 was measured in b production.  相似文献

We have computed the first non-trivial QCD corrections to the quark-quark scattering process which contributes to the production of hadrons at large pT in hadron-hadron collisions. Using quark distribution functions defined in deep inelastic scattering and fragmentation functions defined in one particle inclusive e+e? annihilation, we find that the corrections are large. This implies that QCD perturbation theory may not be reliable for large-pT haron physics.  相似文献

Opposite side correlations in hadron jets produced in e+e? annihilation provide a possibility to measure directly the on-shell QCD quark form factor. Comparing recent PLUTO data with the leading log prediction yields 0.54 ± 0.1 GeV for the QCD parameter Λ.  相似文献

Results on the fragmentation of heavy quarks from analyses of inclusive lepton production ine + e ? annihilation are studied. The use of various fragmentation variables is closely examined and their differences resolved, providing a common basis for comparison of experimental results. The mean value of the fraction of available energy-momentum carried by the primary heavy hadron, defined as $$z = \frac{{(E + p_\parallel )_{hadron} }}{{(E + p)_{quark} }},$$ is determined to be 〈z〉=0.67±0.02±0.02 and 〈zb=0.83±0.01±0.02 for an unknown mixture of charmed and bottom flavoured hadrons respectively. The corresponding values of the parameter? Q of the Peterson fragmentation function are $$\varepsilon _c = 0.06_{ + 0.02 + 0.02}^{ - 0.01 - 0.01} and \varepsilon _b = 0.06_{ + 0.001 + 0.02}^{ - 0.001 - 0.02} .$$ The ratio? c /? b can be approximately related toM b 2 /M c 2 giving a value of 10 ?2?4 +4+5 , in agreement with an expectation of ~10. Measurements of the charged multiplicity of hadronic events containing heavy quark jets are investigated in terms of the mean value ofz.  相似文献

Three-jet thrust and angular distributions in e+e? annihilation are calculated in the integer-charge quark model. The complete contributions of gluons and Higgs scalars are presented. Deviations from QCD results are in general less than or comparable to the experimental errors, except for mg ? 2 GeV and mH ? 30 GeV.  相似文献

In heavy quark jets the quark mass acts as a regulator of collinear singularities, making the quark momentum an infra-red safe variable in perturbative QCD. This allows a direct comparison of measured heavy hadron momentum spectra with perturbative calculations. We exploit the factorisation of heavy quark fragmentation to derive QCD predictions for momentum correlations between heavy hadrons produced ine + e ? annihilations. We study the practical feasibility and model sensitivity of our approach using Monte Carlo simulations. Higher order perturbative corrections and contributions from non-perturbative effects are found to be at the level of 10%.  相似文献

We have analyzed 1113 events of the reaction e+e? → hadrons at CM energies of 12 and 30 GeV in order to make a detailed comparison with QCD. Perturbative effects can be well separated from effects depending on the quark and gluon fragmentation parameters to yield a reliable measurement of the coupling constant αS. At 30 GeV, the result is αS = 0.17 ± 0.02 (statistical) ± 0.03 (systematic). QCD model predictions, using the fragmentation parameters determined along with αS, agree with both gross properties of the final states and with detailed features of the three-jet states.  相似文献

Predictions of the QCD cluster model for charm production in high energy e+e? annihilation are presented. Details of the model relevant for heavy flavor production are discussed. The model is shown to describe well the shape of the recently measured z-distribution for charged D1 production at Q = 29 GeV. Reported rates for D1 production at CESR, PEP, and PETRA are found to be inexplicably high. Substantial Λc production is predicted, with the ratio N(Λc)/N(D1) found to be roughly flat in z for z ? 0.5 at high energies. It is argued that the results presented here are rather general predictions of models in which color is locally screened before hadrons actually form.  相似文献

Heavy quark production at future Compton colliders is investigated. The impact of polarization has been studied. Perturbative QCD corrections to the effective cross section are calculated and found to be at the level of 40% for ae + e ? collider of 500 GeV and a top quark mass of 150 GeV. The η t resonance structure is incorporated.  相似文献

New data on inclusive energy distribution of hadrons from quark jets ine + e ? annihilation are shown to agree with the quantitative predictions of perturbative QCD, supporting the hypothesis of local parton-hadron duality.  相似文献

We analyze the impact of usingb-tagged samples in studying non-Abelian effects due to QCD ine + e ? → 4jet events at √s=M z 0, using angular variable analyses and comparisons withe + e ? → 3jetγ events. We find that QCD effects are largely enhanced inb-quark samples with respect to ‘unflavoured’ ones, where energy-ordering is used to distinguish between gluon and quark jets. We show that theb-quark mass influences the angular distributions significantly and should not be neglected.  相似文献

The cross sections for the production of charmonia and doubly charmed baryons in e + e ? annihilation at an interaction energy of \(\sqrt s \) = 10.6 GeV are predicted under the assumption of quark—hadron duality. The method used is shown to remove some contradictions between experimental data and perturbative QCD.  相似文献

The finite corrections of order α s in perturbative QCD to the cross-sections for semi-inclusive hadron production from deep inelastic leptonhadron scattering and electron-positron annihilation are calculated. We define the effective quark fragmentation functions viae + e ? → hadron +X including the finite terms in order to estimate these corrections for the reactions lepton + hadron → lepton + hadron + anything. Contrary to the leading term the next-to-leading order term does not factorize into parts depending on the target and the fragment, respectively. For the processese +pe + π± +X andv +pμ ? + π± +X the finite corrections of order α s turn out to be at most 20% in the range of momenta covered by present experiments.  相似文献

An explicit form for the charmed quark fragmentation function DCc(z) into hadrons has been obtained with the help of the “reciprocity relation” and the c-quark distribution function in charmed mesons (the function calculated in terms of the Kuti-Weisskopf model). DCc(z) turns out to peak mainly at z close to 1. The analysis of new data on muon pair production in neutrino reactions points to such a behaviour of the DCc(z) function. The obtained fragmentation function, contrary to those, used earlier, leads to a charmed particle (average) multiplicity in e+e?-annihilation independent of energy.  相似文献

The interplay between QED and QCD corrections to the longitudinal polarization asymmetry,A LR, ine + e ?, annihilation is studied. It is found that measurements with hadronic final states will be well suited for precision tests of the standard model. QCD corrections to the asymmetry are particularly small on top of theZ 0, with the leading terms induced by quark mass effects. The influence of initial state radiation inA LR is essentially accounted for by a slight shift in beam energy. Initial/final state QED bremsstrahlung interference (QED boxes) is studied in detail and its influence onA LR is found to be negligibly small, especially close to the top of theZ 0 peak. A comment on the importance of helicity nonconservation for polarized beams in the presence of photon emission is also included.  相似文献

The planar features of hadronic final states in K?p interactions at 4.5, 5.6 and 14.3 GeV c.m. energy are compared with data from e+e? annihilation and deep inelastic μp scattering. A strong energy variation of the distributions (1/σ)dσ/dpt2, 〈pt2in and Σp2t in is observed over this energy range. Striking agreement is found between the K?p data at 14.3 c.m. energy and the leptonic data at similar hadronic c.m. energies. The behaviour of these distributions from K?p data is not well described by the simple quark fragmentation model, but shows deviations similar to those attributed to hard gluon effects in leptonic interactions.  相似文献

On the basis of perturbative QCD and relativistic quark model we calculate relativistic and bound state corrections in the production processes of a pair of \(\mathcal{P}\) -wave charmonium states. Relativistic factors in the production amplitude are taken into account connected with the relative motion of heavy quarks and the transformation law of the bound-state wave function to the reference frame of the moving \(\mathcal{P}\) -wave mesons. Relativistic corrections to the quark bound-state wave functions in the rest frame are considered by means of the Breit-like potential. It turns out that the examined effects change essentially nonrelativistic results of the cross section for the reaction e + + e ?h c + χ c J at the center-of-mass energy √s = 10.6 GeV.  相似文献

We claim that double moments of twoparticle distributions are very sensitive quantities for testing the opposite side quantum number correlations ine + e ?-annihilation predicted by the quark parton model. In particular it is found that kaon correlations are extremely transparent in these quantities. This feature survives when the QCD predictedQ 2-dependence is taken into account. We also stress the importance of establishing the higher meson resonance content in quark jets in order to make a sensible QCD-analyses of the fragmentation functions.  相似文献
