The theoretical and experimental investigations of photonic band gaps in one-dimensional photonic crystals created by micromatchining silicon, which have been performed by the author as part of his doctoral dissertation, are presented. The most important result of the work is the development of a method of modeling photonic crystals based on photonic band gap maps plotted in structure–property coordinates, which can be used with any optical materials and in any region of electromagnetic radiation, and also for nonperiodic structures. This method made it possible to realize the targeted control of the optical contrast of photonic crystals and to predict the optical properties of optical heterostructures and three-component and composite photonic crystals. The theoretical findings were experimentally implemented using methods of micromatchining silicon, which can be incorporated into modern technological lines for the production of microchips. In the IR spectra of a designed and a fabricated optical heterostructure (a composite photonic crystal), extended bands with high reflectivities were obtained. In a Si-based three-component photonic crystal, broad transmission bands and photonic band gaps in the middle IR region have been predicted and experimentally demonstrated for the first time. Si–liquid crystal periodic structures with electric-field tunable photonic band-gap edges have been investigated. The one-dimensional photonic crystals developed based on micromatchining silicon can serve as a basis for creating components of optical processors, as well as highly sensitive chemical and biological sensors in a wide region of the IR spectrum (from 1 to 20 μm) for lab-on-a-chip applications.  相似文献

光子晶体是由两种或两种以上不同介电常数材料所构成的周期性光学纳米结构.光子晶体结构可分为一维、二维和三维,其中二维光子晶体已成为研究的热点.可调带隙的二维光子晶体可以设计出新型的光学器件,因此,对它的研究具有重要的理论意义和应用价值.本文提出的二维新型函数光子晶体可以实现光子晶体带隙的可调性.所谓二维函数光子晶体,即组成它的介质柱的介电常数是空间坐标的函数,它不同于介电常数为常数的二维常规光子晶体.二维函数光子晶体是通过光折变非线性光学效应或电光效应使介质柱的介电常数成为空间坐标的函数.运用平面波展开法给出了TE和TM波的本征方程,由傅里叶变换得到二维函数光子晶体介电常数ε(r)的傅里叶变换ε(G),其傅里叶变换比常规二维光子晶体的复杂.计算发现当介质柱介电常数为常数时,其傅里叶变换与常规二维光子晶体的相同,因此二维常规光子晶体是二维函数光子晶体的特例.在此基础上具体研究了二维函数光子晶体TE波和TM波的带隙结构,其介质柱介电常数函数形式取为ε(r)=k·r+b,其中k,b为可调的参数.并与二维常规光子晶体TE波和TM波的带隙结构进行了比较,发现二维函数光子晶体与二维常规光子晶体TE波和TM波的带隙结构有明显的区别,二维函数光子晶体的带隙数目、位置以及宽度随参数k的变化而发生改变.从而实现了二维函数光子晶体带隙结构的可调性,为基于二维光子晶体的光学器件的设计提供了新的设计方法和重要的理论依据.  相似文献

利用传输矩阵法研究了镜像异质三周期一维光子晶体中的光子局域态随单轴应力发生变化的特性. 对于镜像异质三周期光子晶体, 由于其镜像结构, 破坏了光子晶体的有序性, 产生了一个缺陷态, 使其在较宽的光子禁带中心有一个光子局域态透射峰. 研究表明: 当对镜像异质三周期光子晶体施加单轴应力时, 其中的光子局域态透射峰会随着应力的改变而发生剧烈的变化. 当外部微弱的机械应力施加到光子晶体上时, 对光子晶体形成一个拉伸应变, 拉伸应变引起光子晶体结构的变化, 进而大幅度影响光子局域态透射峰的透射率.结果表明: 透射峰的透射率明显受单轴应力的影响. 这些特性可为用此结构的光子晶体设计超高灵敏度压力传感器提供理论参考. 关键词: 光子晶体 单轴应力 光子局域态 传输矩阵  相似文献

Abstract

The fabrication process of photonic crystal fibers based on a stack-and-draw method is presented in full detail in this article. In addition, improved techniques of photonic crystal fiber preform preparation and fabrication are highlighted. A new method of connecting a handle to a preform using only a fiber drawing tower is demonstrated, which eliminates the need for a high-temperature glass working lathe. Also, a new technique of modifying the photonic crystal fiber structural pattern by sealing air holes of the photonic crystal fiber cane is presented. Using the proposed methods, several types of photonic crystal fibers are fabricated, which suggests potential for rapid photonic crystal fibers fabrication in laboratories equipped with and limited to only a fiber drawing tower.  相似文献

In this paper, a quantum transport theory for describing photonic dissipative transport dynamics in nanophotonics is developed. The nanophotonic devices concerned in this paper consist of on-chip all-optical integrated circuits incorporating photonic bandgap waveguides and driven resonators embedded in nanostructured photonic crystals. The photonic transport through waveguides is entirely determined from the exact master equation of the driven resonators, which is obtained by explicitly eliminating all the degrees of freedom of the waveguides (treated as reservoirs). Back-reactions from the reservoirs are fully taken into account. The relation between the driven photonic dynamics and photocurrents is obtained explicitly. The non-Markovian memory structure and quantum decoherence dynamics in photonic transport can then be fully addressed. As an illustration, the theory is utilized to study the transport dynamics of a photonic transistor consisting of a nanocavity coupled to two waveguides in photonic crystals. The controllability of photonic transport through the external driven field is demonstrated.  相似文献

The tunable two-dimensional photonic crystals band gap, absolute photonic band gap and semi-Dirac point are beneficial to designing the novel optical devices. In this paper, tunable photonic band gaps structure was realized by a new type two-dimensional function photonic crystals, which dielectric constants of medium columns are functions of space coordinates. However for the two-dimensional conventional photonic crystals the dielectric constant does not change with space coordinates. As the parameter adjustment, we found that the photonic band gaps structures are dielectric constant function coefficient, medium columns radius, dielectric constant function form period number and pump light intensity dependent, namely, the photonic band gaps position and width can be tuned. we also obtained absolute photonic band gaps and semi-Dirac point in the photonic band gaps structures of two-dimensional function photonic crystals. These results provide an important theoretical foundation for design novel optical devices.  相似文献

Surface polaritons are surface electromagnetic waves propagating along the surface of a medium, which play an important role in enhancing the photonic spin Hall effect (SHE). Among them, the successful excitation of surface exciton polaritons (SEPs) often requires cryogenic temperature, which limits their practical applications. In this contribution, a promising mechanism is presented for enhancing the photonic SHE by taking advantage of room-temperature SEPs in a prism-glass-TDBC-air configuration. By depositing the TDBC layer on plasmon active metal, the hybrid polariton, namely, surface plasmon exciton polariton (SPEP) can be observed, which gives rise to the further enhancement of photonic SHE. Furthermore, a refractive index sensor based on SEP (or SPEP) enhanced photonic SHE is proposed with the superior sensing performance. The results pave the way for the realization of giant photonic SHE in this simple and promising method, and offer the opportunity for developing highly sensitive optical sensors.  相似文献

We present an alternative definition of impedance to describe the reflection at the interfaces of photonic crystals. We show that this effective impedance can be defined only by the properties of the photonic crystal modes and is independent of the properties of the incident region. This approximate model successfully explains the main features in the reflection spectrum and of various interface terminations of photonic crystals. In particular, we show an impedance matching condition at which reflectionless transmission of power to a low-group-velocity photonic crystal mode is possible, a property that is attractive for various dispersion-based applications of photonic crystals.  相似文献

The effect of resonant fluorescent enhancement from a photonic crystal surface upon the fluorescent photobleaching rate of Cyanine-5 labeled protein has been investigated. We show that the enhanced excitation mechanism for photonic crystal enhanced fluorescence, in which the device surface resonantly couples light from an excitation laser, accelerates photobleaching in proportion to the coupling efficiency of the laser to the photonic crystal. We also show that the enhanced extraction mechanism, in which the photonic crystal directs emitted photons approximately normal to the surface, does not play a role in the rate of photobleaching. We show that the photobleaching rate of dye molecules on the photonic crystal surface is accelerated by 30x compared to an ordinary glass surface, but substantial signal gain is still evident, even after extended periods of continuous illumination at the resonant condition.  相似文献

A 3D silicon micromachining method based on proton beam writing combined with electrochemical anodization of p-type silicon enables fabrication of mid-infrared photonic crystals made of silicon and porous silicon. Here, example structures of silicon 1D and 2D photonic crystals are demonstrated. Progress and problems of fabricating 3D photonic crystals made of silicon are discussed. The strategy of fabricating photonic crystals purely made of porous silicon, and the characterization method of all these mid-infrared structures, are discussed. Due to the flexibility of this fabrication method, photonic devices and integrated photonic circuits may be built on a single chip, for which two 2D silicon photonic crystals with one on top of the other are demonstrated.  相似文献

In this paper, using the plane-wave expansion and finite difference time-domain methods, the photons behavior in the photonic crystal is investigated. Theoretically, when a polarized wave is incident from the background medium to the photonic crystal, the beam propagation directions in the photonic crystal determined by two methods are approximately same. But in this paper, the results exhibit that there is an additional direction obtained by the finite difference time-domain method compared with the plane-wave expansion. Considering basic physical mechanism of the photon behavior, the present work circumvents the electromagnetic field distribution in the photonic crystal at a degenerate state, which can reasonably explain the phenomenon. Finally, it shows that a photonic crystal can be properly designed to achieve double refraction simultaneously at one frequency, which can also offer new thoughts and foundation for the novel beam splitter that applied to many optical systems.  相似文献

In the actual manufacturing process of photonic crystal structure, unavoidable error can generate slight disorder which may influence the performance of photonic crystal based device. In this work, randomly distributional disorders are applied to the air holes in the photonic crystal structure. Based on this, we investigate the influence of the slight disorder on the photonic crystal band structure and the performance of photonic crystal based devices (waveguide and slab cavity). The studies indicate that the slight disorder provides small influence on the band structure of the photonic crystal. But, the random disorder in photonic crystal waveguide may increase transmission loss obviously when the wavelength of the light and the distribution of disorder break the balance of multiple interferences. Also, the slight disorder can reduce the Q factor of the photonic crystal cavity at a certain degree. The studies may provide some useful guides for further photonic crystal device research.  相似文献

A metallodielectric photonic crystal with photonic band gaps in near infrared regime has been constructed using layer-by-layer stacking of two-dimensional micro-size metal-coated dielectric spheres array. In transmission spectra two photonic band gaps are observed at 1.38 μm and 2.46 μm, which are in agreement with theoretical calculations. Experimental results show that the photonic band gaps can be realized with about ten layers. The structure with metallic microspheres provides us a novel way for fabrication of near infrared metallic photonic crystals.  相似文献

Properties of an electromagnetic field localized in the defect modes of two-dimensional photonic crystals are studied. The defect-mode spectrum of these structures is calculated, electromagnetic field localization and channeling effects are analyzed, and the properties of the field inside and beyond a photonic crystal with a lattice defect are also studied. The calculations show that the electromagnetic field is localized in the defect mode of a photonic crystal in a region smaller than the wavelength. The dependence of the defect-mode spectrum on the parameters of the photonic crystal is investigated and possibilities for controlling the spectrum of defect modes are indicated. It is shown that the optical field leaving a photonic crystal possesses the properties of a evanescent wave, which means that spatial resolution substantially greater than the wavelength of the radiation can be achieved in the near field and opens up possibilities for using photonic crystals with a lattice defect in near-field optical microscopy. The possibility of externally controlling an optical field localized in the defect modes of a photonic crystals is demonstrated.  相似文献

将石墨烯中赝磁场的产生机理运用于光子石墨烯,通过在光子石墨烯中引入晶格有规律单轴形变的方式,理论分析得到了谷依赖的均匀赝磁场,并通过数值模拟的方法观察到明显的谷霍尔效应.这种谷霍尔效应的显著程度随晶格形变度的增加而加强.在具有一定损耗的电介质材料构成的形变光子石墨烯中仍可观察到明显的谷霍尔效应.随着电介质材料损耗的增加,谷霍尔效应导致的波束转弯效果依然能够保持,只是强度逐渐变弱.类似于自旋电子学中的自旋霍尔效应,这种光子石墨烯中等效赝磁场作用下的谷霍尔效应在未来谷极化器件的设计和应用中具有重要意义.  相似文献

研究了具有高双折射的光子晶体光纤(HB PCF)中均匀布拉格光栅(FBG)的光谱特性。利用紧凑的超格子模型,对光子晶体光纤的传输特性进行分析,研究正向传输和反向传输的模式之间的耦合规律,从而研究写入光子晶体光纤中的均匀布拉格光栅的特性。首先给出具有C6v对称性的零双折射光子晶体光纤中光纤布拉格光栅的布拉格波长λB随光纤结构参量的变化规律;然后分析一种高双折射光子晶体光纤中的光纤布拉格光栅的光谱特性,高双折射使两个不同偏振态的反射峰分开较大;最后分析了一种常用的双模双折射光子晶体光纤中光纤布拉格光栅的光谱特性,LP01模和LPe11模的两个偏振态对应的反射谱都由于高双折射而分开。  相似文献

In this paper, a novel chiral photonic crystal structure is presented. The formula of reflection coefficient of multi-layer chiral media is applied to dielectric-chiral photonic crystal structure, which is composed of thin chiral layers sandwiched by conventional media. To compare with previous literature, we consider the dielectric structure with alternate glass and GaAs layers. The power reflectance as a function of wavelength for this photonic crystal structure has been calculated. The results are in good agreement with that of Reference. However, our method is simpler. From these graphs, it is found that 100% reflectance is only in finite wavelength ranges, and reflection bandwidth is also small for conventional photonic crystal structure. For chiral photonic crystal, the results show that the chiral photonic band gap (PBG) structure gives nearly 100% reflections in the near-infrared region in addition to some parts of the visible region of the wavelengths. Therefore, it can be used as a broadband reflector and filter.  相似文献
