For any torsion theory in a homological category, one can define a categorical Galois structure and try to describe the corresponding Galois coverings. In this article we provide several characterizations of these coverings for a special class of torsion theories, which we call quasi-hereditary. We describe a new reflective factorization system that is induced by any quasi-hereditary torsion theory. These results are then applied to study various examples of torsion theories in the category of topological groups.  相似文献

We prove that the exactness of direct limits in an abelian category with products and an injective cogenerator J is equivalent to a condition on J which is well-known to characterize pure-injectivity in module categories, and we describe an application of this result to the tilting theory. We derive our result as a consequence of a more general characterization of when inverse limits in the Eilenberg–Moore category of a monad on the category of sets preserve regular epimorphisms.  相似文献

The existence of arbitrary cohomological localizations on the homotopy category of spaces has remained unproved since Bousfield settled the same problem for homology theories in the decade of 1970. This is related with another open question, namely whether or not every homotopy idempotent functor on spaces is an f-localization for some map f. We prove that both questions have an affirmative answer assuming the validity of a suitable large-cardinal axiom from set theory (Vopěnka's principle). We also show that it is impossible to prove that all homotopy idempotent functors are f-localizations using the ordinary ZFC axioms of set theory (Zermelo-Fraenkel axioms with the axiom of choice), since a counterexample can be displayed under the assumption that all cardinals are nonmeasurable, which is consistent with ZFC.  相似文献

Motivated by constructions in the representation theory of finite dimensional algebras we generalize the notion of Artin-Schelter regular algebras of dimension n to algebras and categories to include Auslander algebras and a graded analogue for infinite representation type. A generalized Artin-Schelter regular algebra or a category of dimension n is shown to have common properties with the classical Artin-Schelter regular algebras. In particular, when they admit a duality, then they satisfy Serre duality formulas and the -category of nice sets of simple objects of maximal projective dimension n is a finite length Frobenius category.  相似文献

In this paper, we study some aspects of the category L-ZTop of zero-dimensional L-topological spaces. After noting that it is a topological category, we identify a ‘Sierpinski object’ LZ in it. We further show that two epireflective hulls of LZ respectively turn out to be the categories of zero-dimensional T0-L-topological spaces and of zero-dimensional sober L-topological spaces. We also determine the coreflective hull of LZ in the category of L-topological spaces.  相似文献

We study connections between recollements of the derived category D(Mod R) of a ring R and tilting theory. We first provide constructions of tilting objects from given recollements, recovering several different results from the literature. Secondly, we show how to construct a recollement from a tilting module of projective dimension one. By Nicolás and Saorín (2009) [31], every recollement of D(Mod R) is associated to a differential graded homological epimorphism λ:RS. We will focus on the case where λ is a homological ring epimorphism or even a universal localization. Our results will be employed in a forthcoming paper in order to investigate stratifications of D(Mod R).  相似文献

Abstract

We present a new admissibility theorem for Galois structures in the sense of G. Janelidze. It applies to relative exact categories satisfying a suitable relative modularity condition, and extends the known admissibility theorem in the theory of generalized central extensions. A nearness frame is Cauchy complete if every regular Cauchy filter on the nearness frame is convergent and we show that the categoryCCNFrm of Cauchy complete nearness frames is coreflective in the categoryNFrmC of nearness frames and Cauchy homomorphisms and that the coreflection of a nearness frame is given by the strict extension associated with regular Cauchy filters on the nearness frame. Simple and semisimple additive categories are studied. We prove, for example, that an artinian additive category is (semi)simple iff it is Morita equivalent to a division ring(oid). Let X be an (E, M)-category for sinks. A notion of disconnectedness with respect to a closure operator C on X and to a class of X-monomorphisms N is introduced. This gives rise to the notion of N-disconnectedness class, a characterization of which is presented in a category with a terminal object. Some examples are provided.  相似文献

We investigate the relationship between the synthetic approach to topology, in which every set is equipped with an intrinsic topology, and constructive theory of metric spaces. We relate the synthetic notion of compactness of Cantor space to Brouwer’s Fan Principle. We show that the intrinsic and metric topologies of complete separable metric spaces coincide if they do so for Baire space. In Russian Constructivism the match between synthetic and metric topology breaks down, as even a very simple complete totally bounded space fails to be compact, and its topology is strictly finer than the metric topology. In contrast, in Brouwer’s intuitionism synthetic and metric notions of topology and compactness agree.  相似文献

Abstract

Consider a commuting square of functors TV = GU where G is an algebraic functor over sets (in the sense of Herrlich), and T and U are (regular epi, monosource)—topological and fibre small. Such a square is called a Topological Algebraic Situation (TAS) when the following two conditions are satisfied:

  1. if h: UA → UB and g: VA → VB are morphisms with Gh = Tg, there exists a morphism f: A → B such that Uf = h and Vf = g;

  2. V carries U-initial monosources into T-initial mono-sources.

The functor V has many nice properties which shed light on the blending of the “topology” and “algebra”; e.g., V is a topologically algebraic functor in the sense of Y.H. Hong. An ([Etilde],[Mtilde]) version of O. Wyler's “Taut Lift Theorem” is used to show that the existence of a left adjoint to V is related to Condition (ii). It is also shown that certain topological algebraic reflections arise as Topological Algebraic Situations from algebraic and topological surjective reflections.  相似文献

In non-symmetric Convenient Topology the notion of pre-Cauchy filter is introduced and the construction of a precompletion of a preuniform convergence space is given from which Wyler's completion of a separated uniform limit space [O. Wyler, Ein Komplettierungsfunktor für uniforme Limesräume, Math. Nachr. 46 (1970) 1-12] as well as Weil's Hausdorff completion of a separated uniform space [A. Weil, Sur les Espaces à Structures Uniformes et sur la Topologie Générale, Hermann, Paris, 1937] can be derived (up to isomorphism). By the way, the construct PFil of prefilter spaces, i.e. of those preuniform convergence space which are ‘generated’ by their pre-Cauchy filters, is a strong topological universe filling in a gap in the theory of preuniform convergence spaces.  相似文献

We prove that in the category of Archimedean lattice-ordered groups with weak unit there is no homomorphism-closed monoreflection strictly between the strongest essential monoreflection (the so-called “closure under countable composition”) and the strongest monoreflection (the epicompletion). It follows that in the category of regular σ-frames, the only non-trivial monoreflective subcategory that is hereditary with respect to closed quotients consists of the boolean σ-algebras. Also, in the category of regular Lindelöf locales, there is only one non-trivial closed-hereditary epi-coreflection. The proof hinges on an elementary lemma about the kinds of discontinuities that are exhibited by the elements of a composition-closed l-group of real-valued functions on R.  相似文献

We construct a functor F:GraphsGroups which is faithful and “almost” full, in the sense that every nontrivial group homomorphism FXFY is a composition of an inner automorphism of FY and a homomorphism of the form Ff, for a unique map of graphs f:XY. When F is composed with the Eilenberg-Mac Lane space construction K(FX,1) we obtain an embedding of the category of graphs into the unpointed homotopy category which is full up to null-homotopic maps.We provide several applications of this construction to localizations (i.e. idempotent functors); we show that the questions:

Is every orthogonality class reflective?

Is every orthogonality class a small-orthogonality class?
have the same answers in the category of groups as in the category of graphs. In other words they depend on set theory: (1) is equivalent to weak Vopěnka's principle and (2) to Vopěnka's principle. A pseudogroup is a complete infinitely distributive inverse monoid. Such inverse monoids bear the same relationship to classical pseudogroups of transformations as frames do to topological spaces. The goal of this paper is to develop the theory of pseudogroups motivated by applications to group theory, CC-algebras and aperiodic tilings. Our starting point is an adjunction between a category of pseudogroups and a category of étale groupoids from which we are able to set up a duality between spatial pseudogroups and sober étale groupoids. As a corollary to this duality, we deduce a non-commutative version of Stone duality involving what we call boolean inverse semigroups and boolean étale groupoids, as well as a generalization of this duality to distributive inverse semigroups. Non-commutative Stone duality has important applications in the theory of CC-algebras: it is the basis for the construction of Cuntz and Cuntz–Krieger algebras and in the case of the Cuntz algebras it can also be used to construct the Thompson groups. We then define coverages on inverse semigroups and the resulting presentations of pseudogroups. As applications, we show that Paterson’s universal groupoid is an example of a booleanization, and reconcile Exel’s recent work on the theory of tight maps with the work of the second author.  相似文献

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to describe some “topological” subclasses of the class of all semi-topological functors. This is done by considering intersections of certain classes: on the one hand, the classes of all semi-topological functors, all topologically-algebraic functors and all regular functors; and on the other hand, the class of all discrete functors (see [6]). The relations between these and other classes of functors are given along with the necessary examples. Finally, the resulting intersections are described by giving representations of the functors that belong to them.  相似文献
