Utilizing the quadratic functional criteria and positive functionals, the author develops a comparison theorem for oscillation of partial differential equations. This result parallels a comparison of the oscillation of scalar ordinary differential equations to oscillation of vector-matrix differential equations established by LEWIS and WRIGHT . We use a recently developed theory of nonlinear functionals in the study of oscillations of second-order symmetric vector differential systems to extend a number of theorems of Sun [New Kamenev type theorems for second order linear matrix differential systems, Appl. Math. Lett., 2004, in press] under a common theme. The criteria presented here are of the form: the integral of the coefficient matrix is bounded at infinity (in a sense to be made explicit in the paper) and bounded away from a positive absolute constant implies oscillation at infinity.  相似文献

We present new generalizations of the Barbashin-Krasovskii theorem which also apply to delay equations with unbounded right-hand side. These generalizations are based on information on the localization of the limit sets of solutions, which is obtained with the use of two classes of not necessarily monotone Lyapunov functionals. We introduce linear functionals on an ordered cone that are minimal with respect to a given subcone. Using concepts developed for Choquet theory we observe that the properties of these functionals resemble those of positive Radon measures on locally compact spaces. Other applications include monotone functionals on cones of convex sets, H-integrals on H-cones in abstract potential theory, and classical Choquet theory itself.

Coerciveness results are given for conical nonsmooth functionals fulfilling an appropriate Palais-Smale condition. The class of functionals covered by our results is that of quasiorder related lower-semicontinuous functions on metric spaces. Our approach relies on the study of the asymptotic behavior of such functionals through the monotone variational principle in Turinici (An. Stiint. Univ. Al. I. This paper focuses on the stability analysis for uncertain Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with interval time-varying delay. The uncertainties of system parameter matrices are assumed to be time-varying and norm-bounded. Some new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals (LKFs) are constructed by nonuniformly dividing the whole delay interval into multiple segments and choosing different Lyapunov functionals to different segments in the LKFs. By employing these LKFs, some new delay-derivative-dependent stability criteria are established for the nominal and uncertain T-S fuzzy systems in a convex way. These stability criteria are derived that depend on both the upper and lower bounds of the time derivative of the delay. By employing the new delay partitioning approach, the obtained stability criteria are stated in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI). They are equivalent or less conservative while involving less decision variables than the existing results. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness and reduced conservatism of the proposed results.  相似文献

Using a linear transformation similar to the Kummer transformation, some new oscillation criteria for linear Hamiltonian systems are established. These results generalize and improve the oscillation criteria due to I.S. Kumari and S. Umanaheswaram [I. Sowjaya Kumari, S. Umanaheswaram, Oscillation criteria for linear matrix Hamiltonian systems, J. Differential Equations 165 (2000) 174-198], Q. Yang et al. [Q. Yang, R. Mathsen, S. Zhu, Oscillation theorems for self-adjoint matrix Hamiltonian systems, J. Differential Equations 190 (2003) 306-329], and S. Chen and Z. Zheng [Shaozhu Chen, Zhaowen Zheng, Oscillation criteria of Yan type for linear Hamiltonian systems, Comput. Math. Appl. 46 (2003) 855-862]. These criteria also unify many of known criteria in literature and simplify the proofs.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the existence and multiplicity of homoclinic orbits for a class of first-order nonperiodic Hamiltonian systems. By applying two recent critical point theorems for strongly indefinite functionals, we give some new criteria to guarantee that Hamiltonian systems with asymptotically quadratic terms and spectrum point zero have at least one and a finite number of pairs of homoclinic orbits under some adequate conditions, respectively.  相似文献

Previously formulated monotonicity criteria for explicit two-level difference schemes designed for hyperbolic equations (S.K. Godunov’s, A. Harten’s (TVD schemes), characteristic criteria) are extended to multileveled, including implicit, stencils. The characteristic monotonicity criterion is used to develop a universal algorithm for constructing high-order accurate nonlinear monotone schemes (for an arbitrary form of the desired solution) based on their analysis in the space of grid functions. Several new fourth-to-third-order accurate monotone difference schemes on a compact three-level stencil and nonexpanding (three-point) stencils are proposed for an extended system, which ensures their monotonicity for both the desired function and its derivatives. The difference schemes are tested using the characteristic monotonicity criterion and are extended to systems of hyperbolic equations.  相似文献

We consider whether the “inequality-splitting” property established in the Brøndsted–Rockafellar theorem for the subdifferential of a proper convex lower semicontinuous function on a Banach space has an analog for arbitrary maximal monotone multifunctions. We introduce the maximal monotone multifunctions of type (ED), for which an “inequality-splitting” property does hold. These multifunctions form a subclass of Gossez"s maximal monotone multifunctions of type (D); however, in every case where it has been proved that a multifunction is maximal monotone of type (D) then it is also of type (ED). Specifically, the following maximal monotone multifunctions are of type (ED): ? ultramaximal monotone multifunctions, which occur in the study of certain nonlinear elliptic functional equations; ? single-valued linear operators that are maximal monotone of type (D); ? subdifferentials of proper convex lower semicontinuous functions; ? “subdifferentials” of certain saddle-functions. We discuss the negative alignment set of a maximal monotone multifunction of type (ED) with respect to a point not in its graph – a mysterious continuous curve without end-points lying in the interior of the first quadrant of the plane. We deduce new inequality-splitting properties of subdifferentials, almost giving a substantial generalization of the original Brøndsted–Rockafellar theorem. We develop some mathematical infrastructure, some specific to multifunctions, some with possible applications to other areas of nonlinear analysis: ? the formula for the biconjugate of the pointwise maximum of a finite set of convex functions – in a situation where the “obvious” formula for the conjugate fails; ? a new topology on the bidual of a Banach space – in some respects, quite well behaved, but in other respects, quite pathological; ? an existence theorem for bounded linear functionals – unusual in that it does not assume the existence of any a priori bound; ? the 'big convexification" of a multifunction.
