On Inhomogeneous GBBM Equations

In this paper we consider the Cauchy problem and the initial boundary value (IBV) problem for the inhomogeneous GBBM equations. For any bounded or unbounded smooth domain, the existence and uniqueness of global strong solution for the Cauchy problem and IBV problem for the inhomogeneous GBBM equations in W^{2,p}(Ω) are established by using Banach fixed point theorem and some a priori estimates. These results have improved the known results even in the case of GBBM equation. Meanwhile, we also discuss the regularity of the Strong solution and the system of inhomogeneous GBBM equations.

Remarks on perfectly absorbing boundary conditions

A mixed problem imitating the Cauchy problem is considered. This problem is also a mixed problem with perfectly absorbing boundary conditions. A theorem about the form of the problem imitating the Cauchy problem for a scalar operator was given in [3]. Some theorems concerning perfectly absorbing boundary condition can be found in [1], [2].

Determining surface heat flux in the steady state for the Cauchy problem for the Laplace equation

In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for the Laplace equation, in a strip where the Cauchy data is given at x = 0 and the flux is sought in the interval 0<x?1. This problem is typical ill-posed: the solution (if it exists) does not depend continuously on the data. We study a modification of the equation, where a fourth-order mixed derivative term is added. Some error stability estimates for the flux are given, which show that the solution of the modified equation is approximate to the solution of the Cauchy problem for the Laplace equation. Furthermore, numerical examples show that the modified method works effectively.

On Quasilinear Generalized Canonical Hyperbolic Systems of First-Order Partial Differential Equations

By using the method of characteristics, we prove theorems on continuous solvability and on properties of solutions of the mixed Cauchy boundary-value problem for the generalized canonical hyperbolic system of quasilinear partial differential equations of the first order in a general connected domain in (m+ 1)-dimensions.     

Gas dynamics applications of a characteristic Cauchy problem

Some initial-boundary-value problems for a system of quasilinear partial differential equations of gas dynamics with the initial data prescribed on the characteristic surface (characteristic Cauchy problem) are considered. The following three-dimensional flow problems are investigated: the flow produced by a motion of an impermeable piston; the flow produced by a permeable piston with a given pressure; and the flow produced by the moving free boundary. In the first two problems, the piston motion is prescribed; in the last problem, the free boundary motion cannot be prescribed in advance and must be determined as a part of the problem. It is shown that those problems can be reduced to a characteristic Cauchy problem of a certain standard type that satisfies the analog of Cauchy-Kowalewski's existence theorem in the class of analytical functions (Differential Equations 12 (1977) 1438-1444). Thus, it is proved that, in the case of the analyticity of the input data, the considered problems have unique piecewise analytic solutions which may be expressed by infinite power series (the procedure of constructing the power series solution is described in Differential Equations 12 (1977) 1438-1444 as a part of the proof of the theorem).     

Existence,compactness, and connectedness of solution sets to nonlocal and impulsive Cauchy problems

In this paper, by using some well-known inequalities and Schaefer fixed point theorem, we show existence results for impulsive Cauchy problems with nonlocal conditions. The compactness of solution sets can be shown in some certain conditions. Moreover, connectedness of solution sets to impulsive Cauchy problems is shown.     

Unique solvability of pseudohyperbolic equations with singular right-hand sides

In this paper, we consider the solvability of the Cauchy problem for pseudohyperbolic equations (partial differential equations of third order). For the case in which the right-hand side is a generalized function (distribution) of finite order, we establish a theorem on the unique solvability for a sufficiently general pseudohyperbolic operator. The method of proof is based on a specially constructed “scale” of a priori inequalities for the direct and adjoint operators.

本文讨论了确定Ｌａｐｌｉｔｃｅ双曲型方程u_xy(x,y)+a(x,y)u_x(x,y)+b(x,y)+u_y(x,y)+q(x)u(x,y)=f(x,y)的广义Ｃａｕｃｈｙ问题中系数ｑ（ｘ）的反问题。文中利用特征法线及不动点理论，导出了与反问题等价的非线性积分方程组，证明了反问题局部解的存在唯一性，最后给出了反问题整体用的唯一性定理。     

The cauchy problem for a nonlinear integro-differential transport equation

In the present paper, we study the Cauchy problem for a nonlinear time-dependent kinetic neutrino transport equation. We prove the existence and uniqueness theorem for the solution of the Cauchy problem, establish uniform bounds int for the solution of this problem, and prove the existence and uniqueness of a stationary trajectory and the stabilization ast→∞ of the solution of the time-dependent problem for arbitrary initial data. Differential variational–hemivariational inequalities with application to contact mechanics

In this paper we study a dynamical system which consists of the Cauchy problem for a nonlinear evolution equation of first order coupled with a nonlinear time-dependent variational–hemivariational inequality with constraint in Banach spaces. The evolution equation is considered in the framework of evolution triple of spaces, and the inequality which involves both the convex and nonconvex potentials. We prove existence of solution by the Kakutani–Ky Fan fixed point theorem combined with the Minty formulation and the theory of hemivariational inequalities. We illustrate our findings by examining a nonlinear quasistatic elastic frictional contact problem for which we provide a result on existence of weak solution.
