Summary A bounded law of the iterated logarithm for martingales with values in a separable Hilbert space H is proved. It is then applied to prove invariance principles for U-statistics for independent identically distributed (-valued) random variables {X j , j1} and a kernel h: m H, m2, which is degenerate for the common distribution function of X j , j1. This extends to general m results of an earlier paper on this subject and even gives new results in the case H=.  相似文献

The superstring action in AdS 5×S 5 depends on two parameters: the inverse string tension and the radius R. The standard AdS/CFT correspondence requires that the string action depend on only the combination . After reviewing previous work on the light-cone superstring, we derive the explicit form of the action at =0. Its zero-mode part coincides with the superparticle action in AdS 5×S 5, and the =0 string spectrum, as expected, must therefore include the protected type-IIB supergravity states. Following recent suggestions, we conjecture that such a tensionless string spectrum must also contain higher-spin massless states in AdS 5. We also discuss the case of another parameterization of the string action that admits the straightforward flat-space limit R, but the limits R0 and are not equivalent in this case. The limit R0 then corresponds to shrinking S 5 to the size zero, simultaneously freezing the fluctuations of the radial coordinate of AdS 5. This case results in a nonstandard AdS/CFT correspondence picture.  相似文献

Summary Using the Isaacs-Zimmermann's theory of iterative roots of functions, we prove a theorem concerning the problemP 250 posed by J. Tabor:Letf: E E be a given mapping. Denote byF the set of all iterative roots off. InF we define the following relation: if and only if is an iterative root of. The relation is obviously reflexive and transitive. The question is: Is it also antisymmetric? If we consider iterative roots of a monotonic function the answer is yes. But in general the question is open.Here we prove that there exists a three-element decomposition { i ;i = 1, 2, 3} of the setE E with blocks i of the same cardinality 2cardE such that the functions from 1 do not possess any proper iterative root, the quasi-ordering is not antisymmetric onF(f) for anyf 2, and is an ordering onF(f) for anyf 3. We prove two central limit theorems for real identically distribution random variables where the distribution is a complex-valued Borel measure . The results involve the weak convergence of the suitably scaledn-fold convolution of certain complex atomic or absolutely continuous measures of spectral radius 1 to ahypergaussian measure whose Fourier-Stieltjes transform is exp(–2 for a positive integer . The proof uses a generalization of the method of characteristic functions. Counter-examples are given to rather more general statements that had appeared previously in the literature. This research arose in connection with problems related to general tauberian theorems on the line for complexvalued summability methods which are discussed at the end of the paper. Some interesting examples are given generalizing well-known theorems related to Euler and Borel summability.  相似文献

Posets A, BX×X, with X finite, are said to be universally correlated (AB) if, for all posets R over X, (i.e., all posets RY×Y with XY), we have P(RA) P(RB)P(RAB) P(R). Here P(RA), for instance, is the probability that a randomly chosen bijection from Y to the totally ordered set with |Y| elements is a linear extension of RA. We show that AB iff, for all posets R over X, P(RA) P(RB)P(RAB) P(R(AB)).Winkler proved a theorem giving a necessary and sufficient condition for AB. We suggest an alteration to his proof, and give another condition equivalent to AB.Daykin defined the pair (A, B) to be universally negatively correlated (A B) if, for all posets R over X, P(RA) P(RB)P(RAB) P(R(AB)). He suggested a condition for AB. We give a counterexample to that conjecture, and establish the correct condition. We write AB if, for all posets R over X, P(RA) P(RB)P(RAB) P(R). We give a necessary and sufficient condition for AB.We also give constructive techniques for listing all pairs (A, B) satisfying each of the relations AB, AB, and AB.  相似文献

Summary In the course of the numerical solution of Eigenvalue-problems connected with linear differential equations, the so-called encompassing theorems are of great importantce. We generalize in this paper the most important results of the theory, especially the encompassing-theorems, to the case of systems of differential equations. We expound further a method of perturbation which can be well applied also in the practice for the solution of Eigenvalue-problems connected with the systems. The problem acrose in connection with the fixation of the number of critical self-oscillation of turbine shovels.

The extremal functionEx(u, n) (introduced in the theory of Davenport-Schinzel sequences in other notation) denotes for a fixed finite alternating sequenceu=ababa... the maximum length of a finite sequencev overn symbols with no immediate repetition which does not containu. Here (following the idea of J. Neetil) we generalize this concept for arbitrary sequenceu. We summarize the already known properties ofEx(u, n) and we present also two new theorems which give good upper bounds onEx(u i ,n). We use these theorems to describe a wide class of sequencesu (linear sequences) for whichEx(u, n)=O(n). Both theorems are used for obtaining new superlinear upper bounds as well.
