The structure and harmonic vibrations of Be(n)O(n) (n=3-10) clusters have been investigated using density functional theory. All structures are found to be cumulenic D(nh) rings (equal bonds, alternating angles), with one intense out of plane mode and three infrared-active degenerate modes, of which the highest one is extremely intense and asymptotically increases to 1597 cm(-1) for n=10. Comparisons with C(2n) clusters and B(n)N(n) clusters, the structure and bonding type for the Be(n)O(n) clusters are consistent with those of the C(2n) (n=3, 5, 7, ...) clusters and the B(n)N(n) clusters.  相似文献

Structure and vibrations of AlnNn (n = 3-9) clusters   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The structure and harmonic vibrations of Al(n)N(n) (n = 3-9) clusters have been investigated using the B3LYP (Becke 3-parameter-Lee-Yang-Parr) density functional theory. All structures are found to be cumulenic D(nh) rings (equal bonds, alternating angles), with one intense out-of-plane mode and three infrared-active degenerate modes, of which the highest one is extremely intense and asymptotically increases to 1217 cm(-1) for n = 9. Comparisons with C2n clusters and B(n)N(n) clusters, the structure and bonding type for the Al(n)N(n) clusters are consistent with those of the C2n (n = 3, 5, 7, ...) clusters and the B(n)N(n) clusters.  相似文献

Electronic and geometrical structures of Mn(3)-Mn(10) together with their singly negatively and positively charged ions are computed using density functional theory with generalized gradient approximation. The ground-state spin multiplicities in the neutral series are 16, 21, 4, 9, 6, 5, 2, and 5, for Mn(3)-Mn(10), respectively. Thus, there is a transition from a ferromagnetic ground state to a ferrimagnetic ground state at Mn(5). The energy difference between ferrimagnetic and ferromagnetic states in Mn(n) grows rapidly with increasing n and exceeds 2 eV in Mn(10). The corresponding change from ferro- to ferrimagnetic ground state occurs at Mn(6)(-) and Mn(3)(+) in the anionic and cationic series, respectively. Beginning with Mn(6), the ion spin multiplicities differ from that of the neutral by +/-1 (i.e., they obey the empirical "+/-1 rule"). We found that the energy required to remove an Mn atom is nearly independent of the charge state of an Mn(n) cluster and the number of atoms in the cluster, except for Mn(3). The results of our calculations are in reasonable agreement with experiment, except for the experimental data on the magnetic moments per atom, where, in general, we predict smaller values than the experiment.  相似文献

The structures, binding energies, and electronic properties of one oxygen atom (O) and two oxygen atoms (2O) adsorption on silicon clusters Si(n) with n ranging from 5 to 10 are studied systematically by ab initio calculations. Twelve stable structures are obtained, two of which are in agreement with those reported in previous literature and the others are new structures that have not been proposed before. Further investigations on the fragmentations of Si(n)O and Si(n)O2 (n = 5-10) clusters indicate that the pathways Si(n)O --> Si(n-1) + SiO and Si(n)O2 --> Si(n-2) + Si2O2 are most favorable from thermodynamic viewpoint. Among the studied silicon oxide clusters, Si8O, Si9O, Si5O2 and Si8O2 correspond to large adsorption energies of silicon clusters with respect to O or 2O, while Si8O, with the smallest dissociation energy, has a tendency to separate into Si7 + SiO. Using the recently developed quasi-atomic minimal-basis-orbital method, we have also calculated the unsaturated valences of the neutral Si(n) clusters. Our calculation results show that the Si atoms which have the largest unsaturated valences are more attractive to O atom. Placing O atom right around the Si atoms with the largest unsaturated valences usually leads to stable structures of the silicon oxide clusters.  相似文献

In this paper, the second and third order polarizabilities of small Ga(n)As(m) (n + m=4-10) clusters are systematically investigated using the time dependent density functional theory (TDDFT)6-311+G* combined with the sum-over-states method (SOSTDDFT6-311+G*). For the static second order polarizabilities, the two-level term (beta(vec.2)) makes a significant contribution to the beta(vec) for all considered Ga(n)As(m) clusters except for the Ga3As4 cluster. And, for the static third order polarizabilities, the positive channel (gamma(II)) makes a larger contribution to gamma(tot) than the negative channel (gamma(I)). Similar to the cubic GaAs bulk materials, the small Ga(n)As(m) cluster assembled materials exhibit large second order (1 x 10(-6) esu) and third order susceptibilities (5 x 10(-11) esu). The dynamic behavior of beta(-2omega; omega, omega) and gamma(-3omega; omega, omega, omega) show that the small Ga(n)As(m) cluster will be a good candidate of nonlinear optical materials due to the avoidance of linear resonance photoabsorption.  相似文献

The stable structures, energies, and electronic properties of neutral, cationic, and anionic clusters of Al(n) (n = 2-10) are studied systematically at the B3LYP/6-311G(2d) level. We find that our optimized structures of Al5(+), Al9(+), Al9(-), Al10, Al10(+), and Al10(-) clusters are more stable than the corresponding ones proposed in previous literature reports. For the studied neutral aluminum clusters, our results show that the stability has an odd/even alternation phenomenon. We also find that the Al3, Al7, Al7(+), and Al7(-) structures are more stable than their neighbors according to their binding energies. For Al7(+) with a special stability, the nucleus-independent chemical shifts and resonance energies are calculated to evaluate its aromaticity. In addition, we present results on hardness, ionization potential, and electron detachment energy. On the basis of the stable structures of the neutral Al(n) (n = 2-10) clusters, the Al(n)O (n = 2-10) clusters are further investigated at the B3LYP/6-311G(2d), and the lowest-energy structures are searched. The structures show that oxygen tends to either be absorbed at the surface of the aluminum clusters or be inserted between Al atoms to form an Al(n-1)OAl motif, of which the Al(n-1) part retains the stable structure of pure aluminum clusters.  相似文献

IR spectra of 24 structural isomers of (HF) n (n=4–8) clusters were calculated in the framework of semiempirical theory of polyatomic molecule vibrations. Based on the results obtained and available experimental data it is proposed that (HF) n associates comprising 3–5-membered cycles with attached monomeric HF units are present in molecular beams and gas phase.Ab initio calculations performed by the SCF method show the existence of local minima corresponding to such structures on the potential energy surface of (HF) n clusters (n=4–6). The geometries, stabilities, electronic properties, and magnetism of FeB(n) clusters up to n=10 are systematically studied with density functional theory. We find that our optimized structures of FeB(2), FeB(3), FeB(4), and FeB(5) clusters are more stable than those proposed in previous literature. The results show that it is favorable for the Fe atom to locate at the surface, not at the center of the cluster, and that FeB(4) and FeB(9) clusters exhibit high stability. For all the FeB(n) clusters studied, we find the charge transfer from Fe to B site and the coexistence of ionic and covalent bonding characteristics. The computed total magnetic moments of the lowest-energy structures oscillate with the cluster size and are quenched at n=4, 6, 8, and 10.  相似文献

A recently proposed local Fukui function is used to predict the binding site of atomic hydrogen on silicon clusters. To validate the predictions, an extensive search for the more stable SinH (n=3-10) clusters has been done using a modified genetic algorithm. In all cases, the isomer predicted by the Fukui function is found by the search, but it is not always the most stable one. It is discussed that in the cases where the geometrical structure of the bare silicon cluster suffers a considerable change due to the addition of one hydrogen atom, the situation is more complicated and the relaxation effects should be considered.  相似文献

The structural and electronic properties of In(n)N(n=1-13) clusters have been investigated by density-functional theory with the generalized gradient approximation. The results indicate that the equilibrium structures of In(n)N are linear for n=1,2, planar for n=3-5, and three dimensional for n=6-13. Maximum peaks were observed for In(n)N clusters at n=3,7,9 on the size dependence for second-order energy difference. These imply that these clusters possess relatively higher stability, which is consistent with the case of binding energy per atom. Moreover, the results show that the bonding in small In(n)N clusters has a little ionic character by Mulliken population analysis. The energy gap between the highest occupied and lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals, the vertical ionization potential and electron vertical affinity (VIP and VEA) form an even-odd alternating pattern with increasing cluster size. In general, the VIP tends to lower as the cluster size increases, while the VEA tends to increase as the cluster size increases.  相似文献

We report the results of a theoretical study of neutral, anionic, and cationic Ga(n)On clusters (n = 4-7), focusing on their ground-state configurations, stability, and electronic properties. The structural motif of these small gallium oxide clusters appears to be a rhombus or a hexagonal ring with alternate gallium and oxygen atoms. With the increase in the cluster size from Ga4O4 to Ga7O7, the ground-state configurations show a transition from planar to quasi-planar to three-dimensional structure that maximizes the number of ionic metal-oxygen bonds in the cluster. The ionization-induced distortions in the ground state of the respective neutral clusters are small. However, the nature of the LUMO orbital of the neutral isomers is found to be a key factor in determining the ordering of the low-lying isomers of the corresponding anionic clusters. A sequential addition of a GaO unit to the GaO monomer initially increases the binding energy, though values of the ionization potential and the electron affinity do not show any systematic variation in these clusters.  相似文献

Density-functional theory with generalized gradient approximation for the exchange-correlation potential has been used to calculate the structural and electronic structure of Si(n)C(n) (n=1-10) clusters. The geometries are found to undergo a structural change from two dimensional to three dimensional when the cluster size n equals 4. Cagelike structures are favored as the cluster size increases. A distinct segregation between the silicon and carbon atoms is observed for these clusters. It is found that the C atoms favor to form five-membered rings as the cluster size n increases. However, the growth motif for Si atoms is not observed. The Si(n)C(n) clusters at n=2, 6, and 9 are found to possess relatively higher stability. On the basis of the lowest-energy geometries obtained, the size dependence of cluster properties such as binding energy, HOMO-LUMO gap, Mulliken charge, vibrational spectrum, and ionization potential has been computed and analyzed. The bonding characteristics of the clusters are discussed.  相似文献

The dynamics of charge-transfer-to-solvent states are studied in I- (H2O)(n=3-10) clusters and their deuterated counterparts using time-resolved photoelectron imaging. The photoelectron spectra for clusters with n > or = 5 reveal multiple time scales for dynamics after their electronic excitation. An increase in the vertical detachment energy (VDE) by several hundred millielectronvolts on a time scale of approximately 1 ps is attributed to stabilization of the excess electron, primarily through rearrangement of the solvent molecules, but a contribution to this stabilization from motion of the I atom cannot be ruled out. The VDE drops by approximately 50 meV on a time scale of tens of picoseconds; this is attributed to loss of the neutral iodine atom. Finally, the pump-probe signal decays with a time constant of 60 ps-3 ns, increasing with cluster size. This decay is commensurate with the growth of very slow electrons and is attributed to autodetachment. Smaller clusters (n = 3, 4) display simpler dynamics. Anisotropy parameters are reported for clusters n = 4-9.  相似文献

The ground-state structures of neutral, cationic, and anionic phosphorus clusters P(n), P(n)(+), and P(n)(-) (n = 3-15) have been calculated using the B3LYP/6-311+G* density functional method. The P(n)(+) and P(n)(-) (n = 3-15) clusters with odd n were found to be more stable than those with even n, and we provide a satisfactory explanation for such trends based on concepts of energy difference, ionization potential, electron affinity, and incremental binding energy. The result of odd/even alternations is in good accord with the relative intensities of cationic and anionic phosphorus clusters observed in mass spectrometric studies.  相似文献

Using density functional theory (DFT) method with 6-31G* basis set, we have carried out the optimizing calculation of geometry, vibrational frequency and thermodynamical stability for(AIN)n+ and (AIN)n- (n =1-15) clusters. Moreover, their ionic potential (IP) and electron affinity(EA) were discussed. The results show that the electrical charge condition of the cluster has a relatively great impact on the structure of the cluster and with the increase of n, this kind of impactis reduced gradually. There are no AI-AI and N-N bonds in the stable structure of (AIN)n+ or (AIN)n-, and the AI-N bond is the sole bond type. The magic number regularity of (AIN)n+, and (AIN)n- is consistent with that for (AIN)n, indicating that the structure with even n such as 2, 4,6, … is more stable. In addition, (AIN)10 has the maximal ionization power (9.14 eV) and the minimal electron affinity energy (0.19 eV), which manifests that (AIN)10 is more stable than other clusters.  相似文献

AIN and AI2N2 have been observed in the record of time-of-flight mass-spectra as positive ions. Associating with density functional theory(DFT) B3LYP method with 6-31G* basis set, we have carried out the optimizing calculations of the geometry, electronic state and vibrational frequency for (AIN)n (n = 1—15) clusters, moreover, discussed the character of the chemical bond and thermodynamical stability and explained the experimental mass spectra. The results show that there do not exist AI-AI and N-N bonds and only exists Al-N bond in the ground state structures of (AIN)n clusters; and the “magical number” regularity of (AIN)n is those whose atom number is 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, etc, all of which are times of four.  相似文献

Infrared spectra of Li(NH3)(n) clusters as a function of size are reported for the first time. Spectra have been recorded in the N-H stretching region for n=4-->7 using a mass-selective photodissociation technique. For the n=4 cluster, three distinct IR absorption bands are seen over a relatively narrow region, whereas the larger clusters yield additional features at higher frequencies. Ab initio calculations have been carried out in support of these experiments for the specific cases of n=4 and 5 for various isomers of these clusters. The bands observed in the spectrum for Li(NH3)(4) can all be attributed to N-H stretching vibrations from solvent molecules in the first solvation shell. The appearance of higher frequency N-H stretching bands for n > or =5 is assigned to the presence of ammonia molecules located in a second solvent shell. These data provide strong support for previous suggestions, based on gas phase photoionization measurements, that the first solvation shell for Li(NH3)(n) is complete at n=4. They are also consistent with neutron diffraction studies of concentrated lithium/liquid ammonia solutions, where Li(NH3)(4) is found to be the basic structural motif.  相似文献

The electronic and geometrical structures of the lowest triplet states of (GaAs) n clusters ( n = 2-16) are studied using density functional theory with generalized gradient approximation (DFT-GGA). It is found that the triplet-state geometries are different from the corresponding singlet-state geometries; for n = 2-8, 10, and 11, the triplets and singlets have different topologies, while the (GaAs) 9, (GaAs) 12, (GaAs) 15, and (GaAs) 16 triplets possess a reduced symmetry, due to Jahn-Teller distortions. Except for GaAs, the singlet states are the ground states. Excitation energies and oscillator strengths are computed for excitations from the ground state to ten singlet states of all (GaAs) n clusters using time-dependent density functional theory. The adiabatic singlet-triplet gap is compared to the vertical gap, and the difference in the eigenvalues of the highest-occupied and lowest-unoccupied molecular orbitals (the HOMO-LUMO gap). While these three values show large oscillations for small n, they approach each other as the cluster size grows. Thus, the HOMO-LUMO gap computed using the DFT-GGA approach presents a rather reliable estimate of the adiabatic singlet-triplet gap.  相似文献

The structures of neutral and cationic Cr3On0,+ (n = 0-3) clusters are calculated with density functional theory employing the BLYP and BP86 functionals. Gas-phase CrnOm clusters are produced by laser vaporization and characterized with time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The ionization energies of Cr3On (n = 0-2) are determined with threshold photoionization spectroscopy using tunable laser light in the 4.5-5.60 eV range. On the basis of a comparison between experimental and calculated ionization energies, ground-state structures were assigned. The influence of sequential addition of oxygen on the exchange coupling between the chromium atoms is investigated providing evidence for enhanced ferromagnetic coupling of chromium atoms in both the neutral and cationic Cr3On0,+ clusters. This evidence of superexchange interaction through oxygen extends earlier ideas to control the magnetic interactions in the chromium dimer via chemical reactions with oxygen toward larger chromium clusters.  相似文献

We carry out a systematic search for the atomic structures of silicon cluster cations and anions in the size range n=31-50 using density functional theory in the generalized-gradient approximation. The obtained lowest-energy candidates feature cagelike structures. We find that the computed binding energies and the dissociation pathways as well as the mobilities of our lowest-energy isomers of the cations are all in good agreement with the measured data from experiments. Furthermore, based on these isomers, we reveal that the steplike feature appearing in the measured high-resolution mobilities can be correlated with the corresponding fullerenes explicitly, which strongly support the notion that endohedral silicon fullerenelike structures are the most favored growth pattern for silicon clusters in the range n=31-50. Our calculation and analysis suggest that the proposed isomers are probably very close to the major-abundance isomers observed in experiments.  相似文献
