Power electronic converters for switched reluctance drives   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
A number of power electronic converter circuits exist for switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives which are generally applicable to most loads. A larger number of circuits exist which are suitable for particular niche applications, but which have the potential to be the most cost-effective within that niche. Due to the variable methods of operation of these circuits and the rapid progress in this field, comparisons of these circuits have so far been limited. This paper attempts to bring together the sum total of power converter topologies so far published for SRM drives. A novel classification methodology is presented. The power converters are compared using a straightforward total semiconductor VA per phase sum, and the relative cost of the drive system elements is considered  相似文献

A new philosophy utilizing both thyristor-controlled reactive sources (TCR) and dynamic power filters (DPF) is proposed for applications in fictitious power compensation. The necessary network parameters for the control loops are calculated from digital time-domain, cross correlation signal processing techniques implemented with the aid of a microcomputer. Multi-loop control for quasi-resonant converters   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A multiloop control scheme for quasi-resonant converters (QRCs) is described. Like current-mode control for pulse width modulation (PWM) converters, this control offers excellent transient response and replaces the voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with a simple comparator. In this method, referred to as current-sense frequency modulation (CSFM), a signal proportional to the output-inductor current is compared with an error voltage signal to modulate the switching frequency. The control can be applied to either zero-voltage-switched (ZVS) or zero-current-switched (ZCS) QRCs. Computer simulation is method applied to a ZCS buck QRC. A circuit implementation is presented that allows multiloop control to be used on circuits switching up to 10 MHz. This circuit requires few components and produces clean control waveforms. Experimental results are presented for zero-current flyback and zero-voltage buck QRCs, operating at up to 7 MHz. Good small-signal characteristics have been obtained  相似文献

This paper presents a users' perspective of simulation in power electronic and motion control systems. The rationale for simulation in research, education and in the design process, and the details of how simulation is carried out are discussed. Characteristics of a reliable simulation program are outlined and the hierarchical approach to simulation is stressed. Numerical solution issues in the simulation of “stiff” systems such as power electronics and motion control are discussed in general terms. A brief overview of the widely used simulation programs is provided along with the challenges in modeling the semiconductor devices. In conclusion, observations are made with respect to the future role and nature of computer simulations  相似文献

A synthesis method for generating switched electronic converters from some given specifications is presented. This method is based on a general state-space model for switched converters previously proposed. A synthesis procedure is outlined including the selection of the converter type, the selection of converter configurations, and the insertion of proper switches. Although the treatment presented here requires some experience and intuition, it is not restricted to a specific class of converters. The method is a generic computer-aided tool to search for topologies with given attributes. As an illustrative example, by specifying a resonant sine-wave inverter, a new family of converters is derived and one of its members is implemented and tested  相似文献

This paper deals with modern control systems technology that is frequently applied to power conversion systems. The discussion goes far beyond the basic level of switch control in switching regulators. System-level control issues are important in expanding the market base of power electronics. Improvement in system performance involves not only the use of advanced control techniques, but also the integration of several converters or converter systems into a larger system. A fully controlled rectifier and an induction motor drive system are presented as typical applications to illustrate the use of many techniques for controlling power converters. The paper then points out how a wide variety of control techniques can be applied to enhance the controller performance and bandwidth in power electronics. These techniques include observers and adaptive control, nonlinear control, sliding and dead-beat control, and intelligent control. Finally, the paper points out how power electronic system performance can be enhanced through the use of condition monitoring and diagnostics  相似文献

Electromagnetic effects have an important influence on all aspects of power electronic design. The effects of stray magnetic and electric fields on circuit performance, and the necessity to control the resulting stray inductance and capacitance by good circuit design practices are introduced. Inductors are key components and the pressure to design to meet high-frequency specifications is relentless. Four types of inductors are discussed briefly and their electromagnetic properties are compared and contrasted. High-frequency transformers are discussed in terms of their impact on circuit behavior and their major design issues. The limitations of conventional topologies at multimegahertz frequencies are explored. A circuit example of a half-bridge series-parallel resonant converter working between 1-2 MHz and implemented using hybrid technologies is used to demonstrate how circuit, component and layout design are electromagnetically interdependent  相似文献

This article reviews analytical results and practical experience with randomized modulation in power electronic converters. After providing a brief overview of power electronics and of relevant switching patterns, the authors present performance specifications for converters (in terms of electromagnetic interference, vibrations and acoustic noise), and classify various randomized switching schemes. They review the most directly related references next, and introduce the mathematical objects of primary interest-averaged autocorrelation and power spectrum. They then list some results for the (simpler) case of stationary modulation and consider in detail the more general case of randomized switching based on Markov chains. Their aim is twofold-to present results important for practice and to establish connections with several areas of applied probability. Finally, they consider the synthesis task for the two cases of randomized modulation, followed by brief conclusions  相似文献

Beginning with fundamental properties such as passivity or incremental passivity of the network elements comprised by a switched power converter, the nominal open-loop operation of a broad class of such converters is shown to be stable in the large via a Lyapunov argument. The obtained Lyapunov function is then shown to be useful for designing globally stabilizing controls that include adaptive schemes for handling uncertain nominal parameters. Until now, direct control methods have been mainly investigated and used in conjunction with voltage source converters. In this paper, the authors develop a direct current control method for matrix converters. There are two objectives for the direct current control: the desired current has to be impressed into the load, and the current, drawn from the mains, should be in phase with the voltage and should be (nearly) sinusoidal. This paper analyzes some aspects of integrating the matrix converter (MC) bidirectional switches into a power module. The analysis produces two optimal topologies for a power module: one for low-power and another for medium/high-power MCs. A new power module topology for a low-power three-phase-to-three- phase MC is proposed. By using bootstrap circuits to feed the gate-drivers, the proposed configuration requires only three insulated power supplies for a complete MC. This proposal constitutes a solution recommended in the low-power range, where low cost and low volume are the main objectives. Furthermore, a configuration of a power electronic building block for MCs is proposed. This includes the commutation control logic and the overcurrent protection, provides safe operation, and eliminates the specific problem of operating the bidirectional switches  相似文献

This paper presents a quadratic state-space modeling technique for analysis of power electronic converters. The methodology is based on using a least-square-error fitting to derive a quadratic state-space representation for each topology, together with automatic determination of switching topology. The algorithm integrates the advantages of calculating topology responses at the circuit level and determining switching instants at the device level. Several key features of the new model that lead to significant improvements in computational efficiency include: (1) its simple quadratic polynomial representation for the state-transition matrix in solving the differential equations describing each topology; (2) its direct and single-step calculation of the switching instants; and (3) its generality in determining valid topology without a prior understanding of the switching relationships. Several examples illustrating the generality and simulation speed of the proposed approach are presented. The computational efficiency of the new approach is demonstrated by comparing its simulation time with commercial software using the stepwise integration algorithm. An additional independent control needed to eliminate the undesirable variable switching frequency of quasi-resonant (QR) converters is obtained by replacing the output rectifier by an active switch. The concept is applicable to all classes of converters. Compared to QR converters with conventional switch realization, constant-frequency quasi-resonant (CF-QR) converters exhibit the same type of switching transitions and similar switch voltage and current stresses. Advantages of CF-QR converters are not restricted to the constant-frequency control. In all classes, operation at zero load is possible, so that the available load range is unlimited. The range of attainable, conversion ratios is significantly extended in the classes of zero-voltage quasi-square-wave (CF-ZV-QSW) and zero-voltage multiresonant (CF-ZV-MR) topologies. A practical design example of a 25 W CF-ZV-MR buck converter is constructed and evaluated. The converter operates at 2 MHz from zero load to full load, with a full-load efficiency of 83%. Simple duty ratio control is used to maintain the output voltage constant for all loads. The circuit is inherently immune to the short-circuit condition at the output. Disadvantages of CF-QR converters are the increased gate-drive losses and increased complexity of the power stage and the control circuitry  相似文献

A new large-signal nonlinear control technique is proposed to control the duty-ratio d of a switch such that in each cycle the average value of a switched variable of the switching converter is exactly equal to or proportional to the control reference in the steady-state or in a transient. One-cycle control rejects power source perturbations in one switching cycle; the average value of the switched variable follows the dynamic reference in one switching cycle; and the controller corrects switching errors in one switching cycle. There is no steady-state error nor dynamic error between the control reference and the average value of the switched variable. Experiments with a constant frequency buck converter have demonstrated the robustness of the control method and verified the theoretical predictions. This new control method is very general and applicable to all types of pulse-width-modulated, resonant-based, or soft-switched switching converters for either voltage or current control in continuous or discontinuous conduction mode. Furthermore, it can be used to control any physical variable or abstract signal that is in the form of a switched variable or can be converted to the form of a switched variable  相似文献

An improved design for a switched-capacitor pulsewidth modulated (PWM) DC-DC converter with adjustable conversion ratios is presented. The converter provides a nominal power of 40 W and nominal voltage conversion ratio of 12/5. The same structure can provide other conversion ratios, as required. In this paper, nonlinear-carrier (NLC) control is proposed for high-power-factor rectifiers based on flyback, Cuk, Sepic, and other up-down power converters operated in the continuous conduction mode (CCM). In the NLC controller, the switch duty ratio is determined by comparing a signal proportional to the integral of the switch current with a periodic nonlinear-carrier waveform. The shape of the NLC waveform is determined so that the resulting input-line current follows the input-line voltage, as required for unity power factor rectification. A simple exponential carrier waveform generator is described. Using the NLC controller, input-line voltage sensing, error amplifier in the current-shaping loop, and multiplier/divider circuitry in the voltage feedback loop are eliminated.
