It has been suggested that low-level laser therapy (LLLT) can modulate inflammatory processes. The aim of this experiment was to investigate what effects red laser irradiation with two different wavelengths (660 nm and 684 nm) on carrageenan-induced rat paw edema and histology. Thirty two male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups. One group received a sterile saline injection, while inflammation was induced by a sub-plantar injection of carrageenan (1 mg/paw) in the three other groups. After 1 h, LLLT was administered to the paw in two of the carrageenan-injected groups. Continuous wave 660 nm and 684 nm red lasers respectively with mean optical outputs of 30 mW and doses of 7.5 J/cm(2) were used. The 660 nm and 684 nm laser groups developed significantly (p<0.01) less edema (0.58 ml [SE+/-0.17] ml and 0.76 ml [SE+/-0.10] respectively) than the control group (1.67 ml [SE+/-0.19]) at 4h after injections. Similarly, both laser groups showed a significantly lower number of inflammatory cells in the muscular and conjunctive sub-plantar tissues than the control group. We conclude that both 660 nm and 684 nm red wavelengths of LLLT are effective in reducing edema formation and inflammatory cell migration when a dose of 7.5 J/cm(2) is used.  相似文献

A commercial copper vapour laser has been modified to operate at wavelengths of 303.6 nm and 306.3 nm. The laser transition at 578 nm was suppressed, in order to enhance the competing U.V. transitions. The time averaged U.V. output power level is a few mW's at an electrical input power of up to 4.5 kW. The duration of the pulses is 68 ns.  相似文献

Muscle strains are among the most prevalent causes for athletes' absence from sport activities. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has recently emerged as a potential contender to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in muscle strain treatment. In this work we investigated effects of LLLT and diclofenac on functional outcomes in the acute stage after muscle strain injury in rats. Muscle strain was induced by overloading the tibialis anterior muscle of rats during anesthesia. The injured groups received either no treatment, or a single treatment with diclofenac 30 min prior to injury, or LLLT (810 nm, 100 mW) with doses of 1, 3, 6 or 9 J, at 1 h after injury. Functional outcome measures included a walking index and assessment of electrically induced muscle performance. All treatments (except 9 J LLLT) significantly improved the walking index 12 h postinjury compared with the untreated group. The 3 J group also showed a significantly better walking index than the drug group. All treatments significantly improved muscle performance at 6 and 12 h. LLLT dose of 3 J was as effective as the pharmacological agent in improving functional outcomes in the early phase after a muscle strain injury in rats.  相似文献

Laser biomodulation has been getting considerable attention when it comes to its effects on the inflammatory process. Its action upon mast cells have been already studied, but none of the previous papers related the resulting effect to the inflammatory and vascular status of the wounds. Therefore, the acute inflammatory process as well as the mast cells behavior and the vascular response were analyzed under the influence of laser treatment on cutaneous wounds. Surgical procedures were performed on 60 rats divided into sham and laser groups. Low-level laser therapy was performed following surgical procedures (670 nm, 9 mW, 4 J/cm2, 124 s). Histological specimens were analyzed for cell morphology and immunohistochemistry using anti-von Willebrand Factor and anti-Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor antibody. Laser treatment resulted in an increased acute inflammatory response in irradiated tissues; surgical wounds treated with laser therapy had increased polymorphonuclear cells, mast cells and vasodilation and lower numbers of vessels than those in control rats. Laser treatment resulted in higher expression of VEGF in irradiated tissues 6–24 h post-treatment (p = 0.002). It is possible to observe an amplification of acute inflammatory process during the first hours after surgical procedure in rats submitted to laser therapy.  相似文献

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used and can reduce musculoskeletal pain in spite of the cost of adverse reactions like gastrointestinal ulcers or cardiovascular events. The current study investigates if a safer treatment such as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) could reduce tendinitis inflammation, and whether a possible pathway could be through inhibition of either of the two-cyclooxygenase (COX) isoforms in inflammation. Wistar rats (six animals per group) were injected with saline (control) or collagenase in their Achilles tendons. Then, we treated them with three different doses of IR LLLT (810 nm; 100 mW; 10 s, 30 s and 60 s; 3.57 W cm(-2); 1 J, 3 J, 6 J) at the sites of the injections, or intramuscular diclofenac, a nonselective COX inhibitor/NSAID. We found that LLLT dose of 3 J significantly reduced inflammation through less COX-2-derived gene expression and PGE(2) production, and less edema formation compared to nonirradiated controls. Diclofenac controls exhibited significantly lower PGE(2) cytokine levels at 6 h than collagenase control, but COX isoform 1-derived gene expression and cytokine PGE(2) levels were not affected by treatments. As LLLT seems to act on inflammation through a selective inhibition of the COX-2 isoform in collagenase-induced tendinitis, LLLT may have potential to become a new and safer nondrug alternative to coxibs.  相似文献

The nanosecond optical Kerr constants of a series of alkanoic acids from formic acid to nonanoic acid have been measured at the two inducing wavelengths of 532 and 1064 nm. Results indicate that the values are of similar magnitude to a previous study of the 1-alkyne series and exhibit a similar behaviour of relatively invariant values amongst the higher members of the series. This effect is attributed to the dominant contribution of the carbonyl group to the observed optical Kerr constant.  相似文献

Absorption cross sections for the A1A2-X1A1 electronic transition of formaldehyde have been measured by ultraviolet (UV) laser absorption spectroscopy in the tropospherically significant wavelength range 300-340 nm, over which HCHO is photochemically active. Absorption cross sections are reported at two temperatures, 294 and 245 K and at a spectral resolution of 0.0035 nm (0.35 cm-1). At this resolution, greater peak absorption cross sections are obtained for many of the sharp spectral features than were previously reported. To simulate atmospheric conditions in the troposphere, the effects of adding a pressure of nitrogen of up to 500 Torr and of reduced sample temperature were investigated. The overall magnitudes of peak absorption cross sections are largely unaffected by the added pressure of nitrogen, but a modest degree of pressure broadening (0.2-0.3 cm-1 atm-1) is evident in the line shapes. Computer simulations of spectra have been optimized by comparison with wavelength-dependent formaldehyde absorption cross sections for each major vibronic band in the chosen wavelength range. Experimental and computer simulated spectra at 294 and 245 K are compared to test the reliability of the computer simulations for quantification of the effects of temperature on absorption cross sections. Laser therapy is used in many biomedical sciences to promote tissue regeneration. Many studies involving low-level laser therapy have shown that the healing process is enhanced by such therapy. In this work, we evaluated mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes II and IV and succinate dehydrogenase activities in wounds after irradiation with low-level laser. The animals were divided into two groups: group 1, the animals had no local nor systemic treatment and were considered as control wounds; group 2, the wounds were treated immediately after they were made and every day after with a low-level laser (AsGa, wavelength of 904 nm) for 10 days. The results showed that low-level laser therapy improved wound healing. Besides, our results showed that low-level laser therapy significantly increased the activities of complexes II and IV but did not affect succinate dehydrogenase activity. These findings are in accordance to other works, where cytochrome c oxidase (complex IV) seems to be activated by low-level laser therapy. Besides, we showed, for the first time, that complex II activity was also activated. More studies are being carried out in order to evaluate other mitochondrial enzymes activities after different doses and irradiation time of low-level laser.  相似文献

Magnetic field induced resonance Raman circular intensity differential spectra are reported for the two argon ion laser wavelengths (514.5 and 501.7 nm) that fall within the β electronic absorption band of ferrocytochrome c. The signs and magnitudes of the effects are completely different in the two sets of spectra, and might be related to the slope of the corresponding magnetic circular dichroism band envelope at the excitation wavelength.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of a study on the effects of low-level helium-neon laser therapy (LL He-Ne LT) on the healing of burns. Seventy-eight adult male rats, having been subjected to third-degree burns, were randomly divided into four groups: two laser treated groups (n=20, each), one control group (n=19) and one nitrofurazone treated group (n=19). In the two laser treated groups, the burns were treated on a daily basis with LL He-Ne LT with an energy density of 1.2 and 2.4 J/cm(2), respectively. The response to treatment was assessed histologically at 7, 16 and 30 days after burning, and microbiologically at day 15. Analysis of variance showed that the mean of blood vessel sections in the 1.2J/cm(2) laser group was significantly higher than those in the other groups and the mean of the depth of new epidermis in the 2.4 J/cm(2) laser group on day 16 was significantly lower than in the nitrofurazone treated group (P=0.025, P=0.047, respectively). When Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa grew in more than 50% of samples obtained from control group, there were no S. aureus and P. aeruginosa in the samples of 2.4 J/cm(2) laser group. It is concluded that LL He-Ne LT induced the destruction of S. aureus and P. aeruginosa in third-degree burns of rats, yet at the same time our histological findings showed that LL He-Ne LT caused a significant increase in the mean of blood vessel sections on day 7 after third degree burns and a decrease in the mean of the depth of new epidermis on day 16 after the same burns in rats.  相似文献

IR spectra in the 'Finger Print' spectral range has great importance in qualitative and quantitative analysis of explosives like trinitrotoluene (TNT) and cyclotrimethyltrinitramine (RDX). Highly resolved IR bands of these compounds have been recorded in the 9.6 and 10.6 microm regions of CO2 laser. TNT and RDX are large molecules each having 21 atoms and it is very difficult to assign the modes of vibrations by comparison with those in other molecules making the vibrational assignments of observed bands a difficult task. The ab initio quantum chemical calculation is used for determining the molecular geometries and modes of vibration of these molecules with a view to assign their normal modes in the high resolution vibrational photoacoustic spectra. These assignments are very reliable in view of the good agreement between the observed and calculated frequencies of deuterated TNT.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the comparative effects of red (660‐nm) and near‐infrared (780‐nm) low‐level laser therapy (LLLT) on viability, mitochondrial activity, morphology and gene expression of growth factors on Schwann cells (SC). ST88‐14 cells were grown in RPMI 1640 with 10 mM of HEPES, 2 mM of glutamine, 10% fetal bovine serum and 1% antibiotic‐antimycotic solution at 37°C in humidified atmosphere of 5% CO2. Cells were detached with trypsin and centrifugated at 231 g for 5 min at 10°C, and the pellet (8 × 104 cells/tube) was irradiated at the bottom of 50 ml polypropylene tube with a Twin‐Laser system (660 and 780 nm, 40 mW, 1 mW cm?2, 3.2 and 6.4 J, 80 and 160 J cm?2 with 80 and 160 s). After 1, 3 and 7 days, the analysis was performed. After irradiation, the SC increase mitochondrial activity, gene expression of the neural growth factors NGF and BDNF, and cell migration and increase the G2/M cells. SC showed neuronal morphology, normal F‐actin cytoskeleton organization and positive labeling for S100. PBM increased metabolic activity, mitosis and gene expression when irradiated with red and infrared LLLT. An increase in cell migration was obtained when irradiated with infrared LLLT.  相似文献

The present study investigates whether low-level helium-neon laser therapy can increase histological parameters of immobilized articular cartilage in rabbits or not. Twenty five rabbits were divided into three groups: the experiment group, which received low-level helium-neon laser therapy with 13J/cm(2) three times a week after immobilization of their right knees; the control group which did not receive laser therapy after immobilization of their knees; and the normal group which received neither immobilization nor laser therapy. Histological and electron microscopic examinations were performed at 4 and 7 weeks after immobilization. Depth of the chondrocyte filopodia in four-week immobilized experiment group, and depth of articular cartilage in seven-week immobilized experiment group were significantly higher than those of relevant control groups (exact Fisher test, p=0.001; student's t-test, p=0.031, respectively). The surfaces of articular cartilages of the experiment group were relatively smooth, while those of the control group were unsmooth. It is therefore concluded that low-level helium-neon laser therapy had significantly increased the depth of the chondrocyte filopodia in four-week immobilized femoral articular cartilage and the depth of articular cartilage in seven-week immobilized knee in comparison with control immobilized articular cartilage.  相似文献

The primary steps in one-electron oxidation of NADH (the reduced form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) were studied by means of nanosecond laser photolysis combined with kinetic spectrophotometry. High-intensity excitation at 353 nm of NADH in aqueous solution (pH 10.0) was found to produce two-photon ionization at the nicotinamide group. The absorption spectrum of the -NADH+ radical cation formed in this reaction was determined. This species disappeared by deprotonation at a rate of 3.6 × 106 s?1 at pH 10 forming -NAD.  相似文献

On excitation at 193 nm, tetrahydrofuran (THF) generates OH as one of the photodissociation products. The nascent energy state distribution of the OH radical was measured employing laser induced fluorescence technique. It is observed that the OH radical is formed mostly in the ground vibrational level, with low rotational excitation (approximately 3%). The rotational distribution of OH (v"=0,J) is characterized by rotational temperature of 1250+/-140 K. Two spin-orbit states, 2Pi3/2 and 2Pi1/2 of OH are populated statistically. But, there is a preferential population in Lambda doublet levels. For all rotational numbers, the 2Pi+(A') levels are preferred to the 2Pi-(A") levels. The relative translational energy associated with the photoproducts in the OH channel is calculated to be 17.4+/-2.2 kcal mol-1, giving an fT value of approximately 36%, and the remaining 61% of the available energy is distributed in the internal modes of the other photofragment, i.e., C4H7. The observed distribution of the available energy agrees well with a hybrid model of energy partitioning, predicting an exit barrier of approximately 16 kcal mol-1. Based on both ab initio molecular orbital calculations and experimental results, a plausible mechanism for OH formation is proposed. The mechanism involves three steps, the C-O bond cleavage of the ring, H atom migration to the O atom, and the C-OH bond scission, in sequence, to generate OH from the ground electronic state of THF. Besides this high energy reaction channel, other photodissociation channels of THF have been identified by detecting the stable products, using Fourier transform infrared and gas chromatography.  相似文献

The capability of LA-ICP-MS for determination of trace impurities in transparent quartz glasses was investigated. Due to low or completely lacking absorption of laser radiation, laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) proves difficult on transparent solids, and in particular the quantification of measurement results is problematic in these circumstances. Quartz glass reference materials of various compositions were studied by using a Nd:YAG laser system with focused laser radiation of wavelengths of 1064 nm, 532 nm and 266 nm, and an ICP-QMS (Elan 6000, Perkin Elmer). The influence of ICP and laser ablation conditions in the analysis of quartz glasses of different compositions was investigated, with the laser power density in the region of interaction between laser radiation and solid surface determining the ablation process. The trace element concentration was determined via calibration curves recorded with the aid of quartz glass reference materials. Under optimized measuring conditions the correlation coefficients of the calibration curves are in the range of 0.9–1. The relative sensitivity factors of the trace elements determined in the quartz glass matrix are 0.1–10 for most of the trace elements studied by LA-ICP-MS. The detection limits of the trace elements in quartz glass are in the low ng/g to pg/g range.  相似文献

Visible-light irradiation (VLI) at 660 nm and 11.5 J/cm2 inhibits proliferation of cells of the U937 promonocytic cell line, as monitored by autoradiographical analysis. The S-phase cell population is reduced at 6 h post-radiation treatment. Flow cytometric analysis confirms this, and also shows that light irradiation of cells induces a statistically significant increase in G2/M cells at 6 h post-radiation treatment. It has been postulated that VLI at 660 nm can alter cell-cycle progression by affecting intracellular concentrations of ions, in particular pH and calcium. However, no significant effects of light irradiation on these intracellular ions have been observed. These effects of VLI are not a consequence of radiation-induced DNA strand breaks, therefore events other than direct DNA damage are involved. These findings demonstrate a direct photobiological effect of VLI at 660 nm on the cell cycle, and indicate a previously unsuspected mechanism for the induction of cell-cycle delay that is neither a result of changes in the concentration of intracellular ions nor initiated by DNA strand breaks.  相似文献

Delayed ionization is found to be absent for sub-picosecond laser excitation of free C60 and C70 at 248 nm. The autocorrelation trace obtained for C 60 + in a laser time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometer using two time-delayed and collinear 248 nm ultrashort laser pulses has a width of 1.1 ps (715 fs for sech2 pulses), in agreement with the laser pulse duration measurement in NO gas. Both above observations can be explained by direct ionization of C60 via coherent two-photon absorption by the high intensity sub-picosecond 248 nm laser excitation avoiding the channel leading to delayed ionization.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of a study on the effects of two different doses of low-level laser therapy on healing of deep second-degree burns. Sixty rats were randomly allocated to one of four groups. A deep second-degree burn was inflicted in each rat. In the control group burns remained untreated; in two laser treated groups the burns were irradiated daily with low-level helium-neon laser with energy densities of 1.2 and 2.4 J/cm2, respectively. In the fourth group the burns were treated topically with 0.2% nitrofurazone cream every day. The response to treatments was assessed histologically at 7, 16 and 30 days after burning, and microbiologically at Day 15. The number of macrophages at day 16, and the depth of new epidermis at day 30, was significantly less in the laser treated groups in comparison with control and nitrofurazone treated groups (P=0.000). Staphylococcus epidermidis was found in the 70% of rat wounds in the laser treated groups in comparison with 100% of rats in the control group. S. aureus was found in the 40% rat wounds in the nitrofurazone treated group, but there was not found in the wounds of laser treated, and control groups. It is concluded that low-level laser therapy of deep second-degree burn caused significant decrease in the number of macrophage and depth of new epidermis. In addition, it decreased incidence of S. epidermidis and S. aureus.  相似文献
