Raman spectroscopy has been used to measure the fraction of tetrahedral silicate units connected at three corners into the network (Q3) in binary lithium silicate glasses and also in the more complex borosilicate glasses used for waste immobilization. Agreement within experimental error was obtained with 29Si MAS NMR measurements of the same samples. Raman provides an alternative method of structural determination for silicon-containing glasses with a high content of paramagnetic species where NMR loses resolution. Analysis was performed on borosilicate glasses containing up to 11.98 mol% Fe2O3 and the Q3 values obtained by Raman spectroscopy agree within error with the published 29Si NMR results from borosilicate glasses containing the equivalent quantity of Al2O3.  相似文献

Effects of boron addition on the glass forming characteristics, structure and properties of iron phosphate glasses with nominal compositions of xB2O3-(40−x)Fe2O3-60P2O5 (x = 2-20, mol%) and xB2O3-(100−x)[Fe2O3-60P2O5] (x = 2-20, mol%) have been investigated by DTA, XRD, IR and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Although there were some weak local surface crystallizations on especially most of the glasses in group B, all of the compositions formed glass. DTA spectra showed two exothermic peaks corresponding to crystallizations along with an endothermic glass transition peak. Tg increased with increasing B2O3 content for the glasses in the first series which indicates that the addition of B2O3 increases the thermal stability of glasses in this series while the opposite is observed in the second series. The dissolution rates of boron containing bulk glasses were found to be around 10−9 gr/cm2 min which are comparable to that of the base iron phosphate glass. When the B2O3 content was above 14%, new bands related to BO4 tetrahedral groups have been observed in the IR spectra. The Mössbauer isomer shift values of boron doped glasses were found to be a little lower than that of base glass but both iron ions had distorted octahedral coordination in all glasses. The fraction of Fe2+ ions in glasses (Fe2+/∑(Fe2+ + Fe3+)) was found to be 23% for the base glass while it was 10-22% for the boron doped glasses.  相似文献

The electrical and dielectric properties of 10ZnO-30Fe2O3-60P2O5 (mol%) glasses, melted at different temperatures were measured by impedance spectroscopy in the frequency range from 0.01 Hz to 3 MHz and over the temperature range from 303 to 473 K. It was shown that the dc conductivity strongly depends on the Fe(II)/[Fe(II) + Fe(III)] ratio. With increasing Fe(II) ion content from 17% to 37% in these glasses, the dc conductivity increases. Procedure of scaling conductivity data measured at various temperatures into a single master curve is given. The conductivity of the present glasses is made of conduction and conduction-related polarization of the polaron hopping between Fe(II) and Fe(III), both governed by the same relaxation time, τ. The high frequency dispersion in electrical conductivity arises from the distribution in τ caused by the disordered glass structure. The evolution of the complex permittivity as a function of frequency and temperature was investigated. At low frequency the dispersion was investigated in terms of dielectric loss. The thermal activated relaxation mechanism dominates the observed relaxation behavior. The relationship between relaxation parameters and electrical conductivity indicates the electronic conductivity controlled by polaron hopping between iron ions.  相似文献

The influence of Cr2O3 on glass forming characteristics and physical properties of PbO-Fe2O3-P2O5 glasses has been investigated by Raman and Mössbauer spectroscopies, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and impedance spectroscopy. Glasses of the general composition xCr2O3-(28.3-x)PbO-28.7Fe2O3-43.0P2O5, 0 ≤ × ≤ 10, (mol%) were prepared by conventional melt-quenching technique. The compositions containing up to 4 mol% Cr2O3 formed fully amorphous samples and their Raman spectra show systematic increase in the fraction of orthophosphate Q0 units with increasing Cr2O3 content and O/P ratio. On the other hand, compositions containing 8 and 10 mol% Cr2O3 partially crystallized during cooling and annealing to Fe7(PO4)6, Fe2Pb3(PO4)4 and Cr2Pb3(PO4)4. A high tendency for crystallization of these melts is related to the high O/P (> 4) and Fe2+/Fetot (≈ 0.60) ratios.Electrical conductivity of xCr2O3-(28.3-x)PbO-28.7Fe2O3-43.0P2O5, 0 ≤ × ≤ 10, (mol%) compositions is independent of Cr2O3 and controlled entirely by the polaron transfer between Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions.  相似文献

In this paper we describe fabrication and characterization of rare-earth-doped active tellurite glasses to be used as active laser media for fiber lasers emitting in the 2 μm region. The base composition is (mol%): 75TeO2-20ZnO-5Na2O with different concentrations of Tm3+, Yb3+ and Ho3+ as dopants or co-dopants. Optical properties of doped glasses were studied and pumping at 800 nm and at 980 nm were tested in order to compare the efficiency of two pumping mechanisms. Optical characterization carried out on glasses containing only Tm3+ ions indicated the optimum concentration of Tm2O3 in terms of emission efficiency as 1 wt%. The addition of 5 wt% of Yb2O3 to Tm3+-doped glasses led to the best results in terms of intensity of fluorescence emission and of lifetime values. Yb and Ho co-doped Tm-tellurite glass was measured in emission.  相似文献

The dielectric constant of barium-iron phosphate glasses with the general composition (40−x)BaO · xFe2O3 · (60−x)P2O5 has been investigated at two fixed frequencies (100 kHz and 9.0 GHz). The dielectric constant measured using microwave technique, and the ratio O/P of these glasses increase with increasing Fe2O3 content. The structure and valence states of the iron ions in these glasses were investigated using Mössbauer spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy and differential thermal analysis. Both Fe(II) and Fe(III) ions present in these glasses in octahedral coordination act as permanent dipoles, and the increase of the iron concentration increase these permanent dipoles, contributing to the dielectric constant.  相似文献

This paper describes elastic properties and spectroscopic studies on the xPbO-50B2O3-(50 - x)V2O5 (where x = 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 49 mol%) glass system. Elastic moduli and spectroscopic parameters exhibit compositional dependent trends and the existence of characteristic borovanadate groups in these glasses. The bulk modulus and shear modulus increase with the concentration of [BO4/2] and [B2V2O9]2− groups, which increases the dimensionality of the network. The scheme of modification of borate and vanadate groups has been explained by considering the Sanderson’s electronegativity principle. Analysis of infrared(IR) and magic angle spinning-nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS-NMR) spectra suggests the presence of characteristic diborovanadate groups also in these glasses. The results are examined in view of the structural groups formed due to the presence of PbO as a modifier.  相似文献

Glasses of the system: xBi2O3-(100−x)B2O3 (x = 20 to 66 mol%) were prepared and characterized by density, DSC, UV-visible absorption and 11B MAS-NMR spectroscopy. Glass molar volume increases while the glass transition temperature decreases with Bi2O3 concentration. Densities of some bismuth borate glasses are found to be greater or very close to those of single crystal phases with equal composition. B11 MAS-NMR studies determined that the fraction of tetrahedrally coordinated borons (N4) is maximum at 42 mol% of Bi2O3 and that there is a local maxima in N4 at Bi2O3 concentration of 50 mol%. Glasses containing Bi2O3 concentration of 33 mol% and higher show an unusual, intense absorption band just below the optical band gap. Two crystalline phases: Bi3B5O12 and Bi4B2O9 were prepared by devitrification of glasses and characterized by X-ray diffraction, FTIR and 11B MAS-NMR studies. Both crystalline phases contained significantly lower N4 than glasses with equal composition.  相似文献

Phosphate glasses have been prepared by melting batch materials in electric furnaces, induction furnaces, and in microwave ovens. In the present work mixtures of (NH4)2HPO4 and Fe3O4 or Fe2O3 were exposed to microwave energy, heated to 1200 °C, and cast to produce iron phosphate glasses. Glasses were also produced in electric furnaces for comparison. The material was analyzed by X-ray diffraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy, and differential thermal analysis. For magnetite-based glasses produced in an electric furnace, the Fe2+/(Fe2+ + Fe3+) ratio is compatible with the value in the batch material. The Fe2+/(Fe2+ + Fe3+) ratio is higher for glasses produced in a microwave oven. Glasses with nominal composition 55Fe3O4–45P2O5 (mol%) produced in an electric furnace present an arranged magnetic phase with hyperfine field that could be associated to hematite (estimated to be 21%). All the glasses submitted to heat treatments for crystallization present the following crystalline phases: FePO4, Fe3(PO4)2, Fe(PO3)3, Fe(PO3)2 and Fe7(PO4)6. The amount of these phases depends on the glass composition, and glass preparation procedure. Microwave heating allows to reach melting temperatures at high heating rates, making the procedure easy and economical, but care should be taken concerning the final Fe2+/(Fe2+ + Fe3+) ratio.  相似文献

As part of ongoing studies to evaluate relationships between structure and rates of dissolution of silicate glasses in aqueous media, sodium borosilicate glasses of composition Na2O·xB2O3·(3 − x)SiO2, with x ≤ 1 (Na2O/B2O3 ratio ≥ 1), were analyzed using deep-UV Raman spectroscopy. Results were quantified in terms of the fraction of SiO4 tetrahedra with one non-bridging oxygen (Q3) and then correlated with Na2O and B2O3 content. The Q3 fraction was found to increase with increasing Na2O content, in agreement with studies on related glasses, and, as long as the value of x was not too high, this contributed to higher rates of dissolution in single pass flow-through testing. In contrast, dissolution rates were less strongly determined by the Q3 fraction when the value of x was near unity, and appeared to grow larger upon further reduction of the Q3 fraction. Results were interpreted to indicate the increasingly important role of network hydrolysis in the glass dissolution mechanism as the BO4 tetrahedron replaces the Q3 unit as the charge-compensating structure for Na+ ions. Finally, the use of deep-UV Raman spectroscopy was found to be advantageous in studying finely powdered glasses in cases where visible Raman spectroscopy suffered from weak Raman scattering and fluorescence interference.  相似文献

The electrical and dielectrical properties of Bi2O3–Fe2O3–P2O5 glasses were measured by impedance spectroscopy in the frequency range from 0.01 Hz to 4 MHz and over the temperature range from 303 to 473 K. It was shown that the dc conductivity strongly depends on the Fe2O3 content and Fe(II)/Fetot ratio. With increasing Fe(II) ion content from 17% to 34% in the bismuth-free 39.4Fe2O3–59.6P2O5 and 9.8Bi2O3–31.7Fe2O3–58.5P2O5 glasses, the dc conductivity increases. On the other hand, the decrease in dc conductivity for the glasses with 18.9 mol% Bi2O3 is attributed to the decrease in Fe2O3 content from 31.7 to 23.5 mol%, which indicates that the conductivity for these glasses depends on Fe2O3 content. The conductivity for these glasses is independent of the Bi2O3 content and arises mainly from polaron hopping between Fe(II) and Fe(III) ions suggesting an electronic conduction. The Raman spectra show that the addition of up to 18.9 mol% of Bi2O3 does not produce any changes in the glass structure which consists predominantly of pyrophosphate units.  相似文献

Room temperature electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra and temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements have been performed to investigate the effect of iron ions in 41CaO · (52 − x)SiO2 · 4P2O5 · xFe2O3 · 3Na2O (2 ? x ? 10 mol%) glasses. The ESR spectra of the glass exhibited the absorptions centered at g ≈ 2.1 and g ≈ 4.3. The variation of the intensity and linewidth of these absorption lines with composition has been interpreted in terms of variation in the concentration of the Fe2+ and Fe3+ in the glass and the interaction between the iron ions. The magnetic susceptibility data were used to obtain information on the relative concentration and interaction between the iron ions in the glass.  相似文献

Local environments of ferric and ferrous irons were systematically studied with Mössbauer (at liquid helium temperature) and ultraviolet-visible-near infrared spectroscopic methods for various 18Na2O-72SiO2 glasses doped with 0.5 mol% Fe2O3. These were prepared at temperatures of 1300-1600 °C in ambient air or at 1500 °C under reducing conditions with oxygen partial pressures from 12.3 to 0.27×10−7 atmospheres. The Mössbauer spectroscopic method identified three types of local environments, which were represented by the Fe3+ sextet, the Fe3+ doublet, and the Fe2+ doublet. The Fe3+ sextet ions were assigned to ‘isolated’ octahedral ions. Under reducing conditions, the octahedral Fe3+ ions were readily converted into octahedral ferrous ions. The Fe3+ doublet exists both in octahedral and tetrahedral environment, mainly as tetrahedral sites in the reduced samples. The tetrahedral ions were found stable against reduction to ferrous ions. The Fe2+ doublet sites existed in octahedral coordination. Combining results from both spectroscopic studies, the 1120- and 2020-nm optical bands were assigned to octahedral ferrous ions with a different degree of distortion rather than different coordinations. Further, we assigned the 375-nm band to the transition of octahedral ferric ions that are sensitive to the change of oxygen partial pressure in glass melting and 415-, 435-, and 485-nm bands to the transitions of the tetrahedral ferric ions that are insensitive to oxidation states of the melt. The effect of ferric and ferrous ions with different coordination environments on the glass immiscibility was elucidated.  相似文献

Molecular dynamics simulations of a series of calcium aluminate glasses have been carried out using empirical potentials with a covalent term. The simulations closely reproduce the total neutron correlation function of glasses with 30 and 38 mol% Al2O3 and physical properties such as elastic constants. For compositions close to the eutectic 37 mol% Al2O3, aluminum is tetrahedrally coordinated by oxygen, but the proportion of five-fold and six-fold coordination and also edge-sharing tetrahedra gradually increases with increasing Al2O3 content. The coordination number for oxygen around calcium atoms is close to 6 and this involves a larger coordination at a shorter, well-defined distance, followed by a smaller coordination with a broader range of distances. When the Al2O3 content decreases, the calcium aluminate structure becomes depolymerised and the average ring size increases. Also reported is an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurement on a glass sample with 38 mol% Al2O3, which shows that 38.6 ± 0.9% of the oxygens are non-bridging, in excellent agreement with the simulations.  相似文献

Glasses having compositions 20Li2O · (80 − x)Bi2O3 · xSiO2 (x = 55, 60, 65, 70 mol%) were investigated using impedance spectroscopy in the frequency range from 20 Hz to 1 MHz and in the temperature range from 543 to 663 K. The ac and dc conductivities, activation energy of the dc conductivity and relaxation frequency are extracted from the impedance spectra. The increase in conductivity with increase in SiO2 content is attributed to the change in the structural units of bismuth. Both electric modulus and the conductivity formalism have been employed to study the relaxation dynamics of charge carriers in these glasses. A single ‘master curve’ for normalized plots of all the modulus isotherms observed for a given composition indicates the temperature independence of the dynamic processes for ions in these glasses. Similar values of activation energy for dc conduction and for conductivity relaxation time indicates that the ions overcome same energy barrier while conducting and relaxing. The observed conductivity spectra follows power law with exponent ‘s’ which increases regularly with frequency and approaches unity at higher frequencies. Near constant losses (NCL) characterize this linearly dependent region of conductivity spectra. A deviation from ‘super curve’ for various isotherms of conductivity spectra was also observed in high frequency region and at low temperatures, which supports the existence of different dynamic processes like NCL in addition to the ion hopping processes in the investigated glass system.  相似文献

In this paper, optical properties of 75TeO2-20ZnO-5Na2O host glass doped with concentration of Tm3+ up to 10 %mol were studied in order to assess the most suitable rare earth content for short cavity fiber lasers. Raman spectroscopy revealed a change in the glass structure while increasing Tm3+ content, similar to the well known addition of alkali ions in a glass. Influence of the fabrication process on the OH content was determined by FTIR measurements. Refractive index of Tm3+ doped tellurite glasses was measured at five different wavelengths ranging from 533 nm to 1533 nm. Lifetime and emission spectra measurements of the Tm3+ doped tellurite glasses are reported.  相似文献

The addition of polyvalent transition metal ions to the usually insulating traditional soda-lime-silica glasses can lead to semiconducting properties. We report on synthesis of glasses and glass-ceramics in a soda-lime-silicate based system containing Fe2O3 in the concentration range from 5 to 30 mol%. Two sub-systems were considered, in one of them the ratio [Na2O]/[Fe2O3] was varied while in the other one, the ratio [SiO2]/[Fe2O3] was changed. The phase composition of the synthesized products was characterized by X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray analysis, while the electrical properties were studied by impedance spectroscopy. Partially crystallized non-reduced samples are semiconducting even at room temperature while the glassy samples (both reduced and non-reduced) exhibit semiconducting properties at temperatures equal or larger than 100 °C. An attempt is done to predict the physical approximation explaining the conduction process in the glasses.  相似文献

Fourier transformation infrared spectra, density and DC electrical conductivity of 30Li2O · xCeO2⋅(70 − x)B2O3 glasses, where x ranged between 0 and 15 mol%, have been investigated. The results suggested that CeO2 plays the role of network modifier up to 7.5 mol%. At higher concentrations it plays a dual role; where most of ceria plays the role of network former. The density was observed to increase with increasing CeO2 content. The effect on density of the oxides in the glasses investigated is in the succession: B2O3 < Li2O < CeO2. Most of CeO2 content was found to be associated with B2O3 network to convert BO3 into B O4 units. The contribution of Li+ ions in the conduction process is much more than that due to small polarons. The conductivity of the glasses is mostly controlled by the Li+ ions concentration rather than the activation energy for CeO2 > 5 mol%. Lower than 5 mol% CeO2 the conductivity is controlled by both factors. The dependence of W on BO4 content supports the idea of ionic conduction in these glasses.  相似文献

The electrical properties of (40−x)ZnO–xFe2O3–60P2O5 (x = 10, 20, 30 mol%) glasses were measured by impedance spectroscopy in the frequency from 0.01 Hz to 4 MHz and the temperature range from 303 to 473 K. It was shown that the dc conductivity strongly depends on the Fe2O3 content and Fe(II)/Fetot ratio. The increase in dc conductivity for these glasses is attributed to the increase in Fe2O3 content from 10 to 30 mol%. With increasing Fe(II) ion content from 6% to 17% the dc conductivity increases. This indicated that the conductivity arises mainly from polaron hopping between Fe(II) and Fe(III) ions suggesting an electron conduction in these glasses. By applying scaling on conductivity data measured at different temperatures, single master curve was obtained for each glass. On the other hand, deviation from the master curve at high frequencies was observed for glasses with different compositions. This deviation originates from a various mobility of charge carriers in different glass structures. Raman spectra showed the change of structure, from metaphosphate to pyrophosphate, with increasing Fe2O3 content from 10 to 30 mol%.  相似文献

Oxy-chalcogenide glasses with compositions of xGeO2-(100 − x)GeS2, where 0 ? x ? 100 mol%, have been prepared and studied in terms of their structures and optical properties. X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy shows that Ge:S ratio can deviate from GeS2 by ∼10 at.%, depending critically upon the preparation conditions. Raman scattering spectroscopy suggests that stoichiometric GeO2-GeS2 glasses have a heterogeneous structure in the scale of 1-100 nm. The optical gaps are nearly constant at 3.0-3.5 eV for glasses with 0 ? x ? 80 mol% and abruptly increase to ∼6 eV in GeO2. This dependence suggests that the optical gap is governed by GeS2 clusters, which are isolated and/or percolated. Composition-deviated glasses appear as orange and brown, and these glasses seem to have more inhomogeneous structures.  相似文献
