A series of [2]rotaxanes containing succinamide and naphthalimide hydrogen-bonding stations for a benzylic amide macrocycle is described. Electrochemical reduction and oxidation of the naphthalimide group alters its ability to form hydrogen bonds to the macrocycle to such a degree that redox processes can be used to switch the relative macrocycle-binding affinities of the two stations in a rotaxane by over 8 orders of magnitude. The structure of the neutral [2]rotaxane in solution is established by (1)H NMR spectroscopy and shows that the macrocycle exhibits remarkable positional integrity for the succinamide station in a variety of solvents. Cyclic voltammetry experiments allow the simultaneous stimulation and observation of a redox-induced dynamic process in the rotaxane which is both reversible and cyclable. Model compounds in which various conformational and co-conformational changes are prohibited demonstrate unequivocally that the redox response is the result of shuttling of the macrocycle between the two stations. At room temperature in tetrahydrofuran the electrochemically induced movement of the macrocycle between the two stations takes approximately 50 micros.  相似文献

A bistable porphyrin-containing [2]rotaxane is synthesized with a shuttling benzylic-amide macrocycle mechanically locked onto the thread subunit by formations of H-bonds with two potential stations. This macrocycle comprises two pyridine groups, which would be easily coordinated with zinc porphyrin. The Zn(II) coordination of porphyrin moiety on the thread subunit, immediately followed by the coordination with pyridine groups on the macrocycle, leads to an intermolecular axle-macrocycle-type nanostructure. Moreover, the self-assembly way shows great difference from the two states of the rotaxane monomer: The coordination-driven self-organization of the trans-state E2 leads to a network structure, whereas the cis-state Z2 gives birth to an irregular assembly.  相似文献

Imine‐bridged rotaxanes are a new type of rotaxane in which the axle and macrocyclic ring are connected by imine bonds. We have previously reported that in imine‐bridged rotaxane 5 , the shuttling motion of the macrocycle could be controlled by changing the temperature. In this study, we investigated how the axle and macrocycle structures affect the construction of the imine‐bridged rotaxane as well as the dynamic equilibrium between imine‐bridged rotaxane 5 and [2]rotaxane 7 by using various combinations of axles ( 1 A , B ), macrocycles ( 2 a – e ), and side‐stations (XYL and TEG). In the threading process, the flexibility of the macrocycle and the substituent groups at the para position of the aniline moieties affect the preparation of the threaded imines. The size of the imine‐bridging station and the macrocyclic tether affects the hydrolysis of the imine bonds under acidic conditions.  相似文献

Molecular shuttles are an intriguing class of rotaxanes which constitute prototypes of mechanical molecular machines and motors. By using stopped-flow spectroscopic techniques in acetonitrile solution, we investigated the kinetics of the shuttling process of a dibenzo[24]crown-8 ether (DB24C8) macrocycle between two recognition sites or "stations"--a secondary ammonium (-NH2+-)/amine (-NH-) center and a 4,4'-bipyridinium (bipy2+) unit--located on the dumbbell component in a [2]rotaxane. The affinity for DB24C8 decreases in the order -NH2+- > bipy2+ > -NH-. Hence, shuttling of the DB24C8 macrocycle can be obtained by deprotonation and reprotonation of the ammonium station, reactions which are easily accomplished by addition of base and acid to the solution. The rate constants were measured as a function of temperature in the range 277-303 K, and activation parameters for the shuttling motion in both directions were determined. The effect of different counterions on the shuttling rates was examined. The shuttling from the -NH2+- to the bipy2+ station, induced by the deprotonation of the ammonium site, is considerably slower than the shuttling in the reverse direction, which is, in turn, activated by reprotonation of the amine site. The results show that the dynamics of the shuttling processes are related to the change in the intercomponent interactions and structural features of the two mutually interlocked molecular components. Our observations also indicate that the counterions of the cationic rotaxane constitute an important contribution to the activation barrier for shuttling.  相似文献

High‐yield, straightforward synthesis of two‐ and three‐station [2]rotaxane molecular machines based on an anilinium, a triazolium, and a mono‐ or disubstituted pyridinium amide station is reported. In the case of the pH‐sensitive two‐station molecular machines, large‐amplitude movement of the macrocycle occurred. However, the presence of an intermediate third station led, after deprotonation of the anilinium station, and depending on the substitution of the pyridinium amide, either to exclusive localization of the macrocycle around the triazolium station or to oscillatory shuttling of the macrocycle between the triazolium and monosubstituted pyridinium amide station. Variable‐temperature 1H NMR investigation of the oscillating system was performed in CD2Cl2. The exchange between the two stations proved to be fast on the NMR timescale for all considered temperatures (298–193 K). Interestingly, decreasing the temperature displaced the equilibrium between the two translational isomers until a unique location of the macrocycle around the monosubstituted pyridinium amide station was reached. Thermodynamic constants K were evaluated at each temperature: the thermodynamic parameters ΔH and ΔS were extracted from a Van′t Hoff plot, and provided the Gibbs energy ΔG. Arrhenius and Eyring plots afforded kinetic parameters, namely, energies of activation Ea, enthalpies of activation ΔH, and entropies of activation ΔS. The ΔG values deduced from kinetic parameters match very well with the ΔG values determined from thermodynamic parameters. In addition, whereas signal coalescence of pyridinium hydrogen atoms located next to the amide bond was observed at 205 K in the oscillating rotaxane and at 203 K in the two‐station rotaxane with a unique location of the macrocycle around the pyridinium amide, no separation of 1H NMR signals of the considered hydrogen atoms was seen in the corresponding nonencapsulated thread. It is suggested that the macrocycle acts as a molecular brake for the rotation of the pyridinium–amide bond when it interacts by hydrogen bonding with both the amide NH and the pyridinium hydrogen atoms at the same time.  相似文献

A bistable [2]rotaxane with a conformation-adaptive macrocycle bearing a 9,14-diphenyl-9,14-dihydrodibenzo[a,c]phenazine (DPAC) unit was synthesized, which could be utilized to optical probe the molecular shuttling motion of the functionalized rotaxane system. The UV–vis, 1H NMR and PL spectroscopic data clearly demonstrated that the DPAC ring was interlocked onto the thread and the fluorescence intensity of the DPAC unit in the macrocycle was effectively regulated by the location change of the macrocycle along the thread under acid/base stimulation, which was attributed to the modulation of the intramolecular photo-induced electron transfer between the DPAC unit and the methyltriazole (MTA) unit. This bistable rotaxane system containing a conformation-adaptive fluorophore unit in the macrocycle moiety opens an alternative way to design functional bistable mechanically interlocked molecules.  相似文献

Remote control in an eight-component network commanded both the synthesis and shuttling of a [2]rotaxane via metal-ion translocation, the latter being easily monitored by distinct colorimetric and fluorimetric signals. Addition of zinc(II) ions to the red colored copper-ion relay station rapidly liberated copper(I) ions and afforded the corresponding zinc complex that was visualized by a bright sky blue fluorescence at 460 nm. In a mixture of all eight components of the network, the liberated copper(I) ions were translocated to a macrocycle that catalyzed formation of a rotaxane by a double-click reaction of acetylenic and diazide compounds. The shuttling frequency in the copper-loaded [2]rotaxane was determined to k298=30 kHz (ΔH=62.3±0.6 kJ mol−1, ΔS=50.1±5.1 J mol−1 K−1, ΔG298=47.4 kJ mol−1). Removal of zinc(II) ions from the mixture reversed the system back generating the metal-free rotaxane. Further alternate addition and removal of Zn2+ reversibly controlled the shuttling mode of the rotaxane in this eight-component network where the ion translocation status was monitored by the naked eye.  相似文献

The synthesis of a pH‐sensitive two‐station [1]rotaxane molecular switch by self‐entanglement of a non‐interlocked hermaphrodite molecule, containing an anilinium and triazole moieties, is reported. The anilinium was chosen as the best template for the macrocycle benzometaphenylene[25]crown‐8 (BMP25C8) and allowed the self‐entanglement of the molecule. The equilibrium between the hermaphrodite molecule and the pseudo[1]rotaxane was studied by 1H NMR spectroscopy: the best conditions of self‐entanglement were found in the less polar solvent CD2Cl2 and at high dilution. The triazole moiety was then benzylated to afford a benzyltriazolium moiety, which then played a dual role. On one hand, it acts as a bulky gate to trap the BMP25C8, thus to avoid any self‐disentanglement of the molecular architecture. On another hand, it acts as a second molecular station for the macrocycle. At acidic pH, the BMP25C8 resides around the best anilinium molecular station, displaying the lasso [1]rotaxane in a loosened conformation. The deprotonation of the anilinium molecular station triggers the shuttling of the BMP25C8 around the triazolium moiety, therefore tightening the lasso.  相似文献

A heteroditopic [2]rotaxane consisting of a calix[4]diquinone–isophthalamide macrocycle and 3,5‐bis‐amide pyridinium axle components with the capability of switching between two positional isomers in response to barium cation recognition is synthesised. The anion binding properties of the rotaxane’s interlocked cavity together with Na+, K+, NH4+ and Ba2+ cation recognition capabilities are elucidated by 1H NMR and UV‐visible spectroscopic titration experiments. Upon binding of Ba2+, molecular displacement of the axle’s positively charged pyridinium group from the rotaxane’s macrocyclic cavity occurs, whereas the monovalent cations Na+, K+ and NH4+ are bound without causing significant co‐conformational change. The barium cation induced shuttling motion can be reversed on addition of tetrabutylammonium sulfate.  相似文献

Two novel multilevel switchable [2]rotaxanes containing an ammonium and a triazole station have been constructed by a CuI‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition reaction. The macrocycle of [2]rotaxane containing a C6‐chain bridge between the two hydrogen bonding stations exhibits high selectivity for the ammonium cation in the protonated form. Interestingly, the macrocycle is able to interact with the two recognition stations when the bridge between them is shortened. Upon deprotonation of both [2]rotaxanes, the macrocycle moves towards the triazole recognition site due to the hydrogen‐bond interaction between the triazole nitrogen atoms and the amide groups in the macrocycle. Upon addition of chloride anion, the conformation of [2]rotaxane is changed because of the cooperative recognition of the chloride anion by a favorable hydrogen‐bond donor from both the macrocycle isophthalamide and thread triazole CH proton.  相似文献

We report the synthesis of two [2]rotaxanes containing an interlocked three dimensional binding cavity formed from a pyridinium bis(amide) axle component containing two phenol donors, and an isophthalamide based macrocycle. In the competitive solvent mixture 1 : 1 CDCl3 : CD3OD, one of the receptors exhibits a much higher selectivity preference for chloride than an analogous rotaxane without the hydroxy groups. X-ray crystal structures reveal the chloride anion guest encapsulated within the interlocked binding cavity, though not all of the hydrogen bond donors are utilised. Computational semi-empirical simulations indicate that secondary intermolecular interactions occur between the axle hydroxy hydrogen bond donors and the [2]rotaxane macrocycle components, contributing to a more preorganised binding pocket, which may be responsible for the observed enhanced selectivity.  相似文献

A bis‐branched [3]rotaxane, with two [2]rotaxane arms separated by an oligo(para‐phenylenevinylene) (OPV) fluorophore, was designed and investigated. Each [2]rotaxane arm employed a difluoroboradiaza‐s‐indacene (BODIPY) dye‐functionalized dibenzo[24]crown‐8 macrocycle interlocked onto a dibenzylammonium in the rod part. The chemical structure of the [3]rotaxane was confirmed and characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and high‐resolution ESI mass spectrometry. The photophysical properties of [3]rotaxane and its reference systems were investigated through UV/Vis absorption, fluorescence, and time‐resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. An efficient energy‐transfer process in [3]rotaxane occurred from the OPV donor to the BODIPY acceptor because of the large overlap between the absorption spectrum of the BODIPY moiety and the emission spectrum of the OPV fluorophore; this shows the important potential of this system for designing functional molecular systems.  相似文献

Kinetically stable metallocycle-based molecular shuttles of [2]rotaxanes 4a and 4b, along with [3]rotaxanes 5a and 5b, have been prepared using the rhenium(I)-bridged metallocycle 2 and the dumbbell components containing two stations, 3a and 3b. The rotaxanes were self-assembled by hydrogen bonding interactions upon heating a Cl(2)CHCHCl(2) solution containing their components at 70 degrees C. Each rotaxane was isolated in pure form by silica gel chromatography under ordinary laboratory conditions and fully characterized by elemental analysis and various spectroscopic methods. The (1)H NMR signals for the amide NH and the methylene -(CH(2))(4)- of the station were considerably changed when occupied by the metallocycle. In [2]rotaxane 4b, which has a larger naphthyl spacer, the occupied and unoccupied stations gave widely separated signals in the (1)H NMR spectroscopy at room temperature, but averaged signals of two stations were observed in [2]rotaxane 4a, which has a smaller phenyl spacer. This is attributed to the shuttling of the metallocycle between two stations. The coalescence temperature experiment gave a shuttling rate of approximately 670 s(-)(1) at 19 degrees C in CDCl(3), corresponding to an activation free energy (DeltaG()) of 13.3 kcal/mol. With respect to the relative position of the chloride in the rhenium(I) center, two diastereomers are possible in the [2]rotaxane and three diastereomers are possible in the [3]rotaxane. In fact, the rotaxanes exist as diastereomeric mixtures in nearly equal amounts of all possible diastereomers on the basis of the amide NH signals of the station in the (1)H NMR spectroscopy.  相似文献

[reaction: see text] A novel [2]rotaxane, containing pyrene and perylene bisimide as both stoppers and photoactive units, has been prepared. The shuttling of the protonated macrocycle switched the energy transfer (EN) from a pyrene moiety to a perylene moiety, which resulted in changes of fluorescence of the perylene moiety.  相似文献

A new [2]rotaxane molecular shuttle linker based on the binding of a 24-crown-8 ether macrocycle at a benzimidazole recognition site was synthesised. The shuttling dynamics of the linker were studied in solution and the structure confirmed by X-ray crystallography. A multivariate Zr(iv) MOF, UWDM-11, containing the new MIM linker and primary linker tetramethylterphenyldicarboxylate was synthesised and the translational motion of the molecular shuttle studied in the solid state. The use of a 13C enriched MIM linker allowed the dynamics of both activated and mesitylene-solvated UWDM-11 to be elucidated by VT 13C CPMAS SSNMR. The incorporation of mesitylene into the pores of UWDM-11 resulted in a significant increase in the barrier for thermally driven translation of the macrocycle.

An unsymmetrical molecular shuttle was incorporated into the octahedral cavities of a Zr(iv) MOF. 13C SSNMR showed that the presence of mesitylene in the pores results in an increase in the barriers for the thermally driven motion of the macrocycle.  相似文献

A [3]rotaxane molecular shuttle containing two alpha-cyclodextrin (alpha-CD) macrocycles, an azobenzene unit, a stilbene unit, and two different fluorescent naphthalimide units has been investigated. The azobenzene unit and the stilbene unit can be E/Z-photoisomerized separately by light excited at different wavelengths. Irradiation at 380 nm resulted in the photoisomerization of the azobenzene unit, leading to the formation of one stable state of the [3]rotaxane (Z1-NNAS-2CD); irradiation at 313 nm resulted in the photoisomerization of the stilbene unit, leading to the formation of another stable state of the [3]rotaxane (Z2-NNAS-2CD). The reversible conversion of the Z1 and Z2 isomers back to the E isomer by irradiation at 450 nm and 280 nm, respectively, is accompanied by recovery of the absorption and fluorescence spectra of the [3]rotaxane. The E isomer and the two Z isomers have been characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and by two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy. The light stimuli can induce shuttling motions of the two alpha-CD macrocycles on the molecular thread; concomitantly, the absorption and fluorescence spectra of the [3]rotaxane change in a regular way. When the alpha-CD macrocycle stays close to the fluorescent moiety, the fluorescence of the moiety become stronger due to the rigidity of the alpha-CD ring. As the photoisomerization processes are fully reversible, the photo-induced shuttling motions of the alpha-CD rings can be repeated, accompanied by dual reversible fluorescence signal outputs. The potential application of such light-induced mechanical motions at the molecular level could provide some insight into the workings of a molecular machine with entirely optical signals, and could provide a cheap, convenient interface for communication between micro- and macroworlds.  相似文献

Bistable [2]rotaxanes have been attached through a bulky tripodal linker to the surface of titanium dioxide nanoparticles and studied by cyclic voltammetry and spectroelectrochemical methods. The axle component in the [2]rotaxane contains two viologen sites, V1 and V2, interconnected by a rigid terphenylene bridge. In their parent dication states, V12+ and V22+ can both accommodate a crown ether ring, C, but are not equivalent in terms of their affinity towards C and have different electrochemical reduction potentials. The geometry and size of the tripodal linker help to maintain a perpendicular [2]rotaxane orientation at the surface and to avoid unwanted side‐to‐side interactions. When the rigid [2]rotaxane or its corresponding axle are adsorbed on a TiO2 nanoparticle, viologen V22+ is reduced at significantly more negative potentials (?0.3 V) than in flexible analogues that contain aliphatic bridges between V1 and V2. These overpotentials are analysed in terms of electron‐transfer rates and a donor–bridge–acceptor (D–B–A) formalism, in which D is the doubly reduced viologen, V10, adjacent to the TiO2 surface (TiO2–V10), B is the terphenylene bridge and A is viologen V22+. We have also found that, in contrast with earlier findings in solution, no molecular shuttling occurs in rigid [2]rotaxane adsorbed at the surface. The observations were explained by the relative position of the viologen stations within the electrical double layer, screening of V22+ by the counterions and high capacity of the medium, which reduces the mobility of the crown ether. The results are useful in transposing of solution‐based molecular switches to the interface or in the design and understanding of the properties of systems comprising electroactive and/or interlocked molecules adsorbed at the nanostructured TiO2 surface.  相似文献

Dibenzo[24]crown‐8 (DB24C8) forms rotaxanes with a linear molecule having a dialkylammonium group and a triazole group as well as with the acetylation product of a cationic axle molecule. The former cationic rotaxane is stabilized by multiple intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the NH2+ and oxyethylene groups. The neutral rotaxane contains the macrocycle in the vicinity of the terminal aryl group. The co‐conformation of both the cationic and neutral rotaxanes can be fixed by coordination of the triazole group of the axle molecule to PtCl2(dmso)2. A 1H NMR spectroscopic study on the thermodynamics of the Pt coordination revealed a larger association constant for the rotaxanes than for the corresponding axle molecules and a larger value for the neutral rotaxane than for the cationic rotaxane.  相似文献

This paper reports the synthesis and study of new pH-sensitive DB24C8-based [2]rotaxane molecular shuttles that contain within their axle four potential sites of interaction for the DB24C8: ammonium, amine, Weinreb amide, and ketone. In the protonated state, the DB24C8 lay around the best ammonium site. After either deprotonation or deprotonation-then-carbamoylation of the ammonium, different localizations of the DB24C8 were seen, depending on both the number and nature of the secondary stations and steric restriction. Unexpectedly, the results indicated that the Weinreb amide was not a proper secondary molecular station for the DB24C8. Nevertheless, through its methoxy side chain, it slowed down the shuttling of the macrocycle along the threaded axle, thereby partitioning the [2]rotaxane into two translational isomers on the NMR timescale. The ketone was successfully used as a secondary molecular station, and its weak affinity for the DB24C8 was similar to that of a secondary amine.  相似文献

The shuttling motion of the ferrocene-functionalized macrocycle between the dibenzylammonium and the N-methyltriazolium recognition sites in a bistable [2]rotaxane, as well as the photoinduced electron transfer process occurring between ferrocene units and the morpholin-naphthalimide fluorescent stopper, can be adjusted not only by acid-base stimuli but also addition-removal of the fluoride anion, along with remarkable, high-contrast fluorescent intensity changes.  相似文献
