We investigate the convergence properties of single and multiple shooting when applied to singular boundary value problems. Particular attention is paid to the well-posedness of the process. It is shown that boundary value problems can be solved efficiently when a high order integrator for the associated singular initial value problems is available. Moreover, convergence results for a perturbed Newton iteration are discussed.

This paper is concerned with a procedure for estimating the global discretization error arising when a boundary value problem for a system of second order differential equations is solved by the simple shooting method, without transforming the original problem in an equivalent first order problem. Expressions of the global discretization error are derived for both linear and nonlinear boundary value problems, which reduce the error estimation for a boundary value problem to that for an initial value problem of same dimension. The procedure extends to second order equations a technique for global error estimation given elsewhere for first order equations. As a practical result the accuracy of the estimates for a second order problem is increased compared with the estimates for the equivalent first order problem.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to propose a computational method for the approximate solution of linear and nonlinear two-point boundary value problems. In order to approximate the solution, the expansions in terms of the Bernstein polynomial basis have been used. The properties of the Bernstein polynomial basis and the corresponding operational matrices of integration and product are utilized to reduce the given boundary value problem to a system of algebraic equations for the unknown expansion coefficients of the solution. On this approach, the problem can be solved as a system of algebraic equations. By considering a special case of the problem, an error analysis is given for the approximate solution obtained by the present method. At last, five examples are examined in order to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method.  相似文献

The shooting method is used to prove existence and uniqueness of the solution for a semilinear Sturm-Liouville boundary value problem (N). lies between two consecutive eigenvalues of the related linear problem, the shooting function turns out to be strongly monotone.  相似文献

We present an efficient shooting method for solving two point boundary value problems. The Adomian decomposition method will be utilized to obtain a series solution of the initial value problems involved. Numerical examples and comparison of the work of others will also be done.  相似文献

A class of Newton-like methods for discrete two-point boundary value problems is constructed from the sum equation formulation of the problem. Each step of the Newton-like method can be described as first solving a system of linear algebraic equations. The solution vector of this system gives boundary values to a number of discrete boundary value problems which can be solved explicitly.  相似文献

Galerkin-wavelet methods for two-point boundary value problems   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7
Summary Anti-derivatives of wavelets are used for the numerical solution of differential equations. Optimal error estimates are obtained in the applications to two-point boundary value problems of second order. The orthogonal property of the wavelets is used to construct efficient iterative methods for the solution of the resultant linear algebraic systems. Numerical examples are given. This work was supported by National Science Foundation  相似文献

A new computational method for solving the second-order nonlinear singularly perturbed boundary value problems (SPBVPs) is provided in this paper. In order to overcome a highly singular behavior very near to the boundary as being not easy to treat by numerical method, we adopt a coordinate transformation from an x-domain to a t-domain via a rescaling technique, which can reduce the singularity within the boundary layer. Then, we construct a Lie-group shooting method (LGSM) to search a missing initial condition through the finding of a suitable value of a parameter r ∈ [0, 1]. Moreover, we can derive a closed-form formula to express the initial condition in terms of r, which can be determined properly by an accurate matching to the right-boundary condition. Numerical examples are examined, showing that the present approach is highly efficient and accurate.  相似文献

In this letter, a new numerical method is proposed for solving second order linear singularly perturbed boundary value problems with left layers. Firstly a piecewise reproducing kernel method is proposed for second order linear singularly perturbed initial value problems. By combining the method and the shooting method, an effective numerical method is then proposed for solving second order linear singularly perturbed boundary value problems. Two numerical examples are used to show the effectiveness of the present method.  相似文献

Invariant imbedding has been used to solve unstable linear boundary value problems for a few years. First this method is derived using the theory of characteristics; there the boundary value problem has to be imbedded in a problem of double dimension. If the corresponding Riccati equation has a critical length, one has to repeat the algorithm. A relation between this repeated invariant imbedding and multiple shooting is shown. In examples invariant imbedding, repeated invariant imbedding, multiple shooting and the superposition principle are compared.  相似文献

Second-, fourth- and sixth-order methods are developed and analysed for the numerical solution of non-linear second order boundary value problems. The methods arise from a two-step recurrence relation involving exponential terms, these being replaced by Padé approximants. The methods are tested on two problems from the literature.  相似文献

This article considers the extension of well‐known discontinuous Galerkin (DG) finite element formulations to elliptic problems with periodic boundary conditions. Such problems routinely appear in a number of applications, particularly in homogenization of composite materials. We propose an approach in which the periodicity constraint is incorporated weakly in the variational formulation of the problem. Both H1 and L2 error estimates are presented. A numerical example confirming theoretical estimates is shown. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 2007  相似文献

In this paper we shall provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of solutions of third-order nonlinear differential equations satisfying three-point boundary conditions. For the linear case, we propose a constructive method which is a variation of the method of chasing. For the nonlinear problems sufficient conditions are provided to ensure the convergence of a general class of iterative methods. Several examples are also included.  相似文献

Summary. We present symmetric collocation methods for linear differential-algebraic boundary value problems without restrictions on the index or the structure of the differential-algebraic equation. In particular, we do not require a separation into differential and algebraic solution components. Instead, we use the splitting into differential and algebraic equations (which arises naturally by index reduction techniques) and apply Gau?-type (for the differential part) and Lobatto-type (for the algebraic part) collocation schemes to obtain a symmetric method which guarantees consistent approximations at the mesh points. Under standard assumptions, we show solvability and stability of the discrete problem and determine its order of convergence. Moreover, we show superconvergence when using the combination of Gau? and Lobatto schemes and discuss the application of interpolation to reduce the number of function evaluations. Finally, we present some numerical comparisons to show the reliability and efficiency of the new methods. Summary. We consider boundary value problems for linear differential-algebraic equations with variable coefficients with no restriction on the index. A well-known regularisation procedure yields an equivalent index one problem with d differential and a=n-d algebraic equations. Collocation methods based on the regularised BVP approximate the solution x by a continuous piecewise polynomial of degree k and deliver, in particular, consistent approximations at mesh points by using the Radau schemes. Under weak assumptions, the collocation problems are uniquely and stably solvable and, if the unique solution x is sufficiently smooth, convergence of order min {k+1,2k-1} and superconvergence at mesh points of order 2k-1 is shown. Finally, some numerical experiments illustrating these results are presented. Received October 1, 1999 / Revised version received April 25, 2000 / Published online December 19, 2000  相似文献
