We have investigated the direct fabrication of subsurface waveguide amplifiers in Er-Yb zinc polyphosphate glass by utilizing the relationship between the initial glass composition and the resulting changes to the network structure after modification by fs laser pulses. Waveguides, exhibiting internal gain of 1 dB/cm at 1.53 μm when pumped with 500 mW at 976 nm, were directly fabricated using a regenerative amplified Ti:sapphire 1 kHz, 180 fs laser system. Optical properties as well as insertion losses and internal gain are reported.  相似文献

A random distributed feedback fiber laser operating at 1115 nm has been demonstrated experimentally in standard communication optical fibers by using a LD-pumped Yb-doped fiber laser as the pump source. We have studied the effect of different fiber spans on this new type of random fiber laser output power. It is shown that the generation power is the highest up to 198 mW in a 50 km fiber span. The slope efficiency is more than 28.7%. Stable, high-power continuous-wave (CW) lasing can be generated when the pump power is 3.6 W. The threshold power has also been calculated which well proves a random fiber laser operating via Rayleigh scattering, amplified through the Raman scattering.  相似文献

Multi-wavelength Ytterbium-doped fiber laser (YDFL) is demonstrated using a longitudinal mode interference assisted by a four-wave mixing (FWM) effect in a ring laser cavity. The gain medium is a 16 m long of the fabricated (Ytterbium-doped fiber) YDF, which has a core composition of 0.8 wt % of Yb2O3, 1.8 wt % of Al2O3 and 23 wt % of GeO2, Ytterbium ion fluorescence lifetime of 1.1 ms and absorption of 9.0 dB/m at the pump wavelength of 976 nm. 20 m long photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is used to provide FWM effect so that the energy of different oscillating lines can be redistributed to improve multi-wavelength operation. The proposed laser generates 12 lines of optical comb with a line spacing of approximately 0.59 nm at 1035 nm region.  相似文献

A Q-switched ytterbium-doped fiber laser(YDFL)is proposed and demonstrated using a newly developed multi-walled carbon nanotubes polyethylene oxide(MWCNTs-PEO)film as a passive saturable absorber(SA).The saturable absorber is prepared by mixing the MWCNTs homogeneous solution into a dilute PEO polymer solution before it is left to dry at room temperature to produce thin film.Then the film is sandwiched between two FC/PC fiber connectors and integrated into the laser cavity for Q-switching pulse generation.The laser generates a stable pulse operating at wavelength of 1060.2 nm with a threshold pump power of 53.43 mW.The YDFL generates a stable pulse train with repetition rates ranging from7.92 to 24.27 kHz by varying 980-nm pump power from 53.42 to 65.72 mW.At 59.55-mW pump power,the lowest pulse width and the highest pulse energy are obtained at 12.18μs and 143.5 nJ,respectively.  相似文献

通过晶体的吸收光谱和荧光光谱研究了Yb3+:SrMoO4激光晶体的光谱性能.由吸收光谱得到晶体在976 nm有最强吸收,该处的吸收截面为1.71×10-20cm2,吸收半峰宽为71 nm.由荧光光谱得到晶体的发射峰在1 021 nm,发射谱带半峰宽为44 nm.由倒易法计算了晶体的发射截面,计算得出晶体在1 021 nm处的发射截面为1.24×10-20cm2.通过拟合荧光寿命衰减曲线得到Yb3+:SrMoO4晶体的荧光寿命为878μs.由光谱数据计算了Yb3+:SrMoO4晶体的激光参数,计算得到饱和泵浦功率密度为4.35 kW/cm2,在激光输出波长处净透过所需要激发粒子的最小分数为10.08%,最小泵浦功率密度为O.44 kW/cm2.Yb3+:SrMoO4晶体具有较大的吸收和发射半峰宽,较长的荧光寿命和较低的激光阈值,可成为一种潜在的LD泵浦激光材料,可能应用于飞秒激光及可调谐激光领域.  相似文献

A coupler is proposed to interface a hybrid dielectric-loaded plasmonic waveguide (HDLPW) with a silicon photonic slab waveguide. The HDLPW is firstly designed and optimized to attain the best tradeoff between the mode confinement and the propagation distance. The designed coupler is inspired from the taper configuration and numerically modeled through finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation. The results demonstrate that a high confinement and low loss of the energy is achieved from a silicon photonic slab waveguide into the dielectric slot of area 50×200 nm2 in the HDLPW. The transmission attained through the coupler with a compact size of 400 nm is found to be as high as 80% (1 dB). Further, the planar nature of taper configuration makes the coupler easy to fabricate using the state-of-the-art CMOS facilities. The proposed coupler is useful in enabling the integration between photonic and hybrid plasmonic waveguides and thus realizing on-chip hybrid integrated circuits.  相似文献

The cooperative luminescence and absorption properties of Yb3+ doped aluminosilicate glass optical fibres and preforms are investigated in detail. In accordance with previous investigations, both the visible cooperative luminescence and the infrared luminescence decay measurements have been resolved into a single exponential decay component. We show that for a glass with similar Yb3+ dopant concentration but more Al3+, the glass emits less visible luminescence. Absorption loss measurements completed on fibre samples revealed a broad absorption in the 350-500 nm range, which we propose is due to a combination of Yb2+ absorption and cooperative absorption from Yb3+ ion pairs.  相似文献

We demonstrate the 3% mol ytterbium doped phosphate glass air-clad photonic crystal fibre (PCF) laser of 43-cm length in single-mode operation. The fabrication and testing of the laser is introduced. The laser has the diameter of the core of 12 μm created in photonic microstructure and generates at wavelength of 1030 nm. Near 4-W output power and 14.6% slope efficiency against the launched pump power is demonstrated in preliminary characterization. The difference of refractive indices achieved in doped and undoped glass is Δn = 0.0004. We used the doped glass with the negative core-cladding Δn to assure the photonic crystal fibre way of single-mode propagation.  相似文献

The design and performance of radio frequency (RF) excited partial Z-fold waveguide CO2 laser with two channels are exposed. The length of the partial Z-fold channel is 3×460 mm and that of the single channel is 460 mm. The electrodes for the two channels are common and excited by a same RF source. According to our analysis, this kind of structure can greatly improve the laser offset frequency stability. In the experiments, we studied the variation of laser output power with gas pressure for two different channels.The maximum laser output power is about 23 W for the partial Z-fold channel and about 6 W for the single channel.  相似文献

An all-solid-state longitudinally diode-pumped Nd:glass chirped-pulse-amplification laser system producing pulses of 50-MW peak power has been developed. The diode-pumped Nd:glass regenerative amplifier produces pulses with energies as great as 56microJ at a 1-kHz repetition rate and pulse durations as short as 450 fs after compression in a compact single holographic-transmission-grating stretcher-compressor arrangement. Further, spectral gain shaping was shown to extend the bandwidth that was supported in the low-gain amplifier. To the best of our knowledge, this system provides the highest peak and average power obtained from a directly diode-pumped femtosecond laser.  相似文献

We investigated the femtosecond laser writing of optical waveguides inside Foturan glass at various pulse energies and focusing depths. An optimal waveguide fabricated solely by femtosecond laser irradiation showed a refractive index modulation of ∼1.7×10-3 and a minimum transmission loss of ∼0.80 dB/cm. This type of waveguide had lower transmission loss than those fabricated by a hybrid process of femtosecond laser exposure and following thermal treatment. Ultralow jitter pulse trains are produced from a passively mode-locked, erbium/ytterbium co-doped, planar waveguide laser by use of high-bandwidth feedback control acting on the physical cavity length and optical pump power. Synchronization of a 750-MHz, fundamentally mode-locked laser to an external clock signal yields an ultralow, root-mean-square relative timing jitter of 14.4 fs integrated from 10 Hz to the Nyquist frequency of 375 MHz.  相似文献

A 64 W fiber laser at 1.9 microm with a slope efficiency of 68% with respect to the launching pump power at 800 nm was demonstrated in a one-end pump configuration using a piece of 20 cm long newly developed thulium-doped germanate glass double-cladding single-mode fiber. A quantum efficiency of 1.8 was achieved. An output laser power of 104 W at 1.9 microm was demonstrated from a piece of 40 cm long fiber with a dual-end pump configuration.  相似文献

For the first time,it is experiementally verified that the index profile of K~ —Na~ ion-exchanged waveguide in CdS_xSe_(1-x)doped glass follows a second-order polynomial dis-tribution.Mode-dispersion curves have been obtained by computing simplified mode equationin WKB approximation and verified by experiment.Diffusion constant has been measured ac-curately.Technical basis is provided for the design and fabrication of all-optical switching de-vices in this kind of nonlinear waveguide.  相似文献

We report a ytterbium fiber laser mode locked at its 281st harmonic, which corresponds to a repetition rate greater than 10 GHz. The laser produces linearly polarized, 2-ps pulses with up to 38-mW of average output power. The mode-locked pulses are tunable over a 58-nm window centered on 1053 nm.  相似文献

The first distributed feedback (DFB) dye laser on the basis of microporous quartz glass (MQG) is reported. MQG consists of a specially processed quartz sample doped with a dye. As a pumping source a second harmonic YAG: Nd3+ laser with 12.5 pps repetition rate was used. Stable generation of the narrow line tuned within a spectral range of 562–584 nm and 633–663 nm with a linewidth of 0.04 nm was obtained. A high photochemical stability of the dye in the quartz matrix and reliability of MQG as an active medium for the tunable DFB laser were experimentally demonstrated.  相似文献
