The present paper framed to study the impact of heterogeneity on propagation of Love wave in a heterogeneous micropolar layer over an elastic inhomogeneous stratum, when both rigidity and density are assumed to vary linearly with depth. The equations of motion have been formulated separately for layer and half-space under suitable boundary conditions. Analytical solution for the dispersion equation has been obtained using method of separation of variables by means of the Airy function and Whittaker function. Some particular cases have also been investigated. Further, as a special case the velocity equation for isotropic layer over a homogeneous half-space coincides with the standard result of Love wave. Numerical calculations of frequency relation have been performed and depicted by means of graphs to exhibit the substantial impact of heterogeneity, micropolar parameters and wave number on the phase velocity of Love wave. The wave velocity is strongly influenced by these parameters.  相似文献

The present paper is concerned with the propagation of torsional surface waves in a heterogeneous anisotropic half-space under the initial compressive stress. The heterogeneity in the half-space is caused by the linear variation in rigidity, initial compressive stress and density. The solution part of the problem involves the use of Whittaker function. The dispersion equation has been obtained in a closed form, which shows the variation of phase velocity with corresponding wave number. Effects of anisotropy and initial stress have been shown by the means of graphs for different anisotropic materials. It has found that the phase velocity of torsional waves decreases with increment in initial stress and inhomogeneity. Obtained phase velocity of torsional surface wave is found to be less than the shear wave velocity, which agrees with the standard result.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the propagation of shear waves in a magnetoelastic self-reinforced medium using finite difference technique. Dispersion equation has been deduced for the case when (n ? 1) layers lie over a half space. It is observed that the obtained dispersion equation is in assertion with the classical Love wave equation for both the cases when a single and double layer lies over a half space. The stability condition for the used finite difference scheme and the expression for the phase and group velocity have been derived. The dispersion curve for different values of magnetoelastic coupling parameter, phase and group velocity variation for different values of stability ratio has been depicted by means of graphs.  相似文献

The paper investigates the existence of Love wave propagation in an initially stressed homogeneous layer over a porous half-space with irregular boundary surfaces. The method of separation of variables has been adopted to get an analytical solution for the dispersion equation and thus dispersion equations have been obtained in several particular cases. Propagation of Love wave is influenced by initial stress parameters, corrugation parameter and porosity of half-space. Velocity of Love waves have been plotted in several figures to study the effect of various parameters and found that the velocity of wave decreases with increases of non-dimensional wave number. It has been observed that the phase velocity decreases with increase of initial stress parameters and porosity of half-space.  相似文献

The present work deals with the possibility of propagation of torsional surface wave in fluid saturated poroelastic layer lying over nonhomogeneous elastic half space. Both the media are assumed to be under compressive initial stress. The half space has two types of inhomogeneity, viz; hyperbolic and quadratic. The dispersion equation for torsional wave in porous layer has been derived and observed that the presence of fluid in pores increases the velocity of the torsional surface wave but the phase velocity diminishes due to the presence of compressive initial stress in the porous layer. It is also observed that the velocity of the torsional surface wave increases due to the increase of initial stress in inhomogeneous half space. The inhomogeneity factor due to quadratic and hyperbolic variations in rigidity, density and initial stress of the medium decreases the phase velocity as it increases.  相似文献

The present work deals with the possibility of propagation of torsional surface wave in an inhomogeneous crustal layer over an inhomogeneous half space. The layer has inhomogeneity which varies linearly with depth whereas the inhomogeneous half space exhibits inhomogeneity of three types, namely, exponential, quadratic, and hyperbolic discussed separately. The dispersion equation is deduced for each case in a closed form. For a layer over a homogeneous half space, the dispersion equation agrees with the equation of the classical case. It is observed that the inhomogeneity factor due to linear variation in density in the inhomogeneous crustal layer decreases as the phase velocity increases, while the inhomogeneity factor in rigidity has the reverse effect on the phase velocity.  相似文献

The present paper studies the propagation of shear waves (SH-type waves) in an homogeneous isotropic medium sandwiched between two semi infinite media. The upper half-space is considered as orthotropic medium under initial stress and lower half-space considered as heterogeneous medium. We have obtained the dispersion equation of phase velocity for SH-type waves. The propagation of SH-type waves are influenced by inhomogeneity parameters and initial stress parameter. The velocity of SH-type wave has been computed for different cases. We have also obtained the dispersion equation of phase velocity in homogeneous media in the absence of initial stress. The velocities of SH-type waves are calculated numerically as a function of kH (non-dimensional wave number) and presented in a number of graphs. To study the effect of inhomogeneity parameters and initial stress parameter we have plotted the velocity of SH-type wave in several figure. We have observed that the velocity of wave increases with the increase inhomogeneity parameters. We found that in both homogeneous and inhomogeneous media the velocity of SH-type wave increases with the increase of initial stress parameter. The results may be useful for the study of seismic waves propagation during any earthquake and artificial explosions.  相似文献

This paper investigates the possibility of shear wave propagation along the plane surface in the interface of two different types of fibre reinforced media. The upper layer is fibre reinforced and the lower half-space is taken inhomogeneous fibre reinforced. Dispersion equation and condition for maximum energy flow near the surface are obtained in compact form. The dispersion equation coincides with that of Love wave for uniform media. Effect of reinforcement and inhomogeneity on phase and group velocity has been depicted by means of graphs. It is observed that inhomogeneity and reinforcement decreases the phase velocity and presence of reinforcement deviate the group velocity.  相似文献

Scattering of SH-waves on triangular hill joined by semi-cylindrical canyon   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Scattering of SH-waves on the triangular hill joined by semi-cylindrical canyon in half-space is studied using the method of complex function and moving coordinates. The model being studied is divided into two domains. The wave functions satisfying the required condition at each wedge are constructed in each equation. The equations are solved with Fourier expansion. Numerical results are provided to discuss the influence of scattering of SH-waves.  相似文献

The complex function method is used to solve problems of scattering of plane SH-waves on cylindrical canyon topography of arbitrary shape in anisotropic media. This paper gives the complete function series and general expressions with boundary condition to approach the solution of steady state scattering of plane SH-waves on two-dimensional canyon topography in anisotropic media. The problem to be solved can be reduced to a solution of infinite algebraic equation series by using Hermite function and it's orthogonal conditions. The solution can be obtained directly by using computers. Finally, as an example, computational results of scattering of plane SH-waves on a semi-cylindrical canyon topography are presented. This paper describes a theory of surface Love waves propagating in a layered elastic waveguide loaded on its surface by a viscous (Newtonian) liquid. An analytical expression for the complex dispersion equation of Love waves has been established. The real and imaginary parts of the complex dispersion equation were separated and resulting system of nonlinear algebraic equations was solved numerically. The influence of the viscosity of liquid on the dispersion curves of phase velocity, the wave attenuation and the distribution of the Love wave amplitude is analyzed numerically. The propagation loss is produced only by the viscosity of liquids. Elastic layered waveguide is assumed to be loss-less. The numerical solutions show the dependence of the phase velocity change, the wave attenuation and the wave amplitude distribution in terms of the liquid viscosity and the wave frequency. The results of the investigations are fundamental and can be applied in the design and development of liquid viscosity sensors and biosensors, in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) of materials, in geophysics and seismology.  相似文献

The effects of thermal dispersion and thermal radiation on the non-Darcy natural convection over a vertical flat plate in a fluid saturated porous medium are studied. Forchheimer extension is considered in the flow equations. The coefficient of thermal diffusivity has been assumed to be the sum of molecular diffusivity and the dispersion thermal diffusivity due to mechanical dispersion. Rosseland approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. Similarity solution for the transformed governing equations is obtained. Numerical results for the details of the velocity and temperature profiles which are shown on graphs have been presented. The combined effect of thermal dispersion and thermal radiation, for the two cases Darcy and non-Darcy porous medium, on the heat transfer rate which are entered in tables is discussed.  相似文献

The theory of torsional vibrations of a circular cylinder, with a periodic variation of elastic constants and density normal to the axis of the cylinder, is developed in terms of Floquet waves. Floquet waves are quasi-periodic waves, whose amplitude profile has the same periodicity as that of the material and repeats with the periodicity of the cell. Using Floquet's theory, the dispersion spectrum is obtained for time-harmonic waves propagating in a laminated cylinder with periodic structure. It is shown that the dispersion spectrum has a band structure, consisting of passing bands and stopping bands. Motion in the case of grazing incidence, and motion at the end of the zones is discussed. It is also shown that as the radius of the cylinder tends to infinity, the torsional waves in a circular cylinder degenerate to SH-waves in laminated plates.  相似文献

Propagation of a torsional wave in a doubly-layered half-space structure of an initially stressed heterogeneous viscoelastic layer sandwiched between a layer and a half-space of heterogeneous dry sandy media is studied. A closed form complex expression for the velocity profile is obtained under effective boundary conditions. The real part of the complex expression provides a dispersion equation, and the imaginary part yields a damping equation. The derived dispersion and damped equations are in well agreement with the classical Love wave condition. In addition, to study the effect of the dissipation factor, the attenuation coefficient, the sandy parameters, the initial stress, the heterogeneity parameters, and the thickness ratio parameter, some noteworthy contemplations are made by numerical calculations and graphical visuals. The results of this paper may present a deeper insight into the behaviour of propagation phenomena in heterogeneous viscoelastic and heterogeneous dry sandy materials that can provide a theoretical guide for the design and optimization in the field of earthquake engineering. The study also reveals that the presence of a damping part due to viscoelasticity affects the torsional wave propagation significantly.  相似文献

The longitudinal dispersion of a chemical species released in an oscillatory flow through an annular tube has been studied in presence of two kinds of first order reactions between the species and tube-wall. The species is supposed to undergo kinetic reversible phase exchange with the outer-wall material and irreversible absorption into the wall. Due to the variation of velocity across the tube section, the chemical species may spread out axially along the tube at a much faster rate than that produced by the molecular diffusion. A finite-difference implicit scheme has been adopted to solve the unsteady convection-diffusion equation for all time period based on the Aris method of moments. Axial distributions of mean concentration are determined from the first four central moments using Hermite polynomial representation for the periodic flow with and without non-zero mean flow. The study brings forward the coupled effects of reversible phase exchange and irreversible absorption on dispersion coefficient. Both the reversible and irreversible reactions are found to inhabit the dispersion process at early times, but at developed stage dispersion may be enhanced by the reversible phase exchange, provided the velocity comprises time invariant component. The decrease of peak of the mean concentration distribution with the increase of reaction rate is found irrespective of the nature of reaction.  相似文献

Propagation of SH waves in an irregular monoclinic crustal layer   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The present paper discusses the dispersion equation for SH waves in a monoclinic layer over a semi-infinite elastic medium with an irregularity. In the absence of the irregularity, the dispersion equation reduces to standard dispersion equation for SH waves in a monoclinic layer over an isotropic semi-infinite medium. The dispersion curves for different size of the irregularity are computed and compared for the half-space without any irregularity. It can be seen that the phase velocity is strongly influenced by the wave number and the depth of the irregularity.  相似文献

The propagation and properties of Rayleigh waves on curved surfaces are investigated theoretically. The Rayleigh wave dispersion equation for propagation on a curved surface is derived as a parabolic equation, and its penetration depth is analyzed using the curved surface boundary. Reciprocity is introduced to model the diffracted Rayleigh wave beams. Simulations of Rayleigh waves on some canonical curved surfaces are carried out, and the results are used to quantify the influence of curvature. It is found that the velocity of the surface wave increases with greater concave surface curvature, and a Rayleigh wave no longer exists once the surface wave velocity exceeds the bulk shear wave velocity. Moreover, the predicted wave penetration depth indicates that the energy in the Rayleigh wave is transferred to other modes and cannot propagate on convex surfaces with large curvature. A strong directional dependence is observed for the propagation of Rayleigh waves in different directions on surfaces with complex curvatures. Thus, it is important to include dispersion effects when considering Rayleigh wave propagation on curved surfaces.  相似文献

Laboratory experiments and numerical simulations investigate conservative contaminant transport in a heterogeneous porous medium. The laboratory experiments were performed in cylindrical columns 1m long and 3.5cm inside diameter filled with spherical glass beads. Concentration breakthrough curves are measured at a scale much finer than the size of the heterogeneity. Numerical simulations are based on a random walk in a known constant velocity field. The heterogeneity is a distinct, discontinuous change in the local permeability field. Fluid flow is miscible, flowing in a saturated porous medium. Previous work has shown this to be a very poorly understood phenomenon. The measurements reported here help to better understand how dispersion evolves through and past a heterogeneity.  相似文献
