Amine‐terminated monodisperse hard segments (MDHSs) containing two to four 4,4′‐methylenebis (phenyl isocyanate) extended by 1,4‐butanediol have been synthesized using carboxybenzyl protecting‐deprotecting strategy. Pure MDHSs in large scale were obtained in good yield and their structures were confirmed by 1H‐, 13C‐NMR spectroscopy and GPC‐MALLS. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed that as the hard segment (HS) size increased, the melting and glass transition temperature and the change of heat capacity at glass transition of ethyl capped MDHSs increased. Model thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) were synthesized using the reaction of bischloroformate of poly (tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO) diol or polyisobutylene (PIB) diol with amine‐terminated MDHSs. X‐ray diffraction results indicated the amorphous structure of model TPUs. DSC revealed HS related endotherms, regardless of SS, which were attributed to the local ordering of the HSs. Additional endotherms in PTMO based model TPUs might arise from the dissociation of hydrogen bonding between PTMO and HSs. The lower Tg in model TPUs compared to the polydisperse analogues observed by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) indicated higher microphase separation of monodisperse HSs. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Morphology and tensile properties of model thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) containing polyisobutylene (PIB) or poly(tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO) based soft segment and 4,4‐methylene bis(phenyl isocyanate) (MDI) and 1,4‐butanediol (BDO) based monodisperse hard segments (HSs), consisting of exactly two to four MDI units extended by BDO, were investigated. Using FT‐IR spectroscopy, increased hydrogen bonded C?O fraction was observed in model TPUs as the HS size increased. The hydrogen bonded C?O fraction was higher in PIB based TPUs compared with PTMO based TPUs, indicating higher phase separation in PIB based TPUs. The morphology of TPUs was investigated using AFM phase imaging, which showed ribbon‐like or interconnected hard domains in PTMO based model TPUs and randomly dispersed hard domains in PIB based model TPUs. SAXS revealed that the degree of phase separation in the model TPUs was higher than in their polydisperse analogues. Domain spacing as well as interfacial thickness increased with the increasing HS size, and both values were higher in PTMO based TPUs. The tensile analysis indicated that model TPUs exhibited higher modulus and slightly higher elongation compared with their polydisperse analogues. Only in PTMO based model TPUs, strain induced crystallization was observed above 300% elongation. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Phys. 2016 , 54, 2485–2493  相似文献

New thermoplastic polyurethaneureas (TPUU) based on polyisobutylene (PIB) and poly(tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO) segments have been synthesized possessing tensile properties comparable to conventional PTMO based TPUs. PIB based TPUU containing 35 weight (wt)% hard segment was synthesized by chain extension of H2N-Allyl-PIB-Allyl-NH2 with 4,4′ -methylene bis(phenylisocyanate) (MDI) and 1,4-butanediol (BDO) in toluene. The ultimate tensile strength (UTS) = 12 MPa and ultimate elongation = 70% were inferior to PTMO based polyurethane (UTS = 35 MPa, elongation at break = 600%). H2N-Allyl-PIB-Allyl-NH2 and HO-PTMO-OH in different proportions were chain extended in presence of MDI and BDO to obtain TPUUs containing 35 wt% hard segment. The polymers exhibited M ns = 84000–138000 with polydispersity indices (PDIs) = 1.7–3.7. The UTS = 23–32 MPa and elongation at break = 250–675% was comparable to that of PTMO based polyurethane and significantly higher than the PIB based TPUU with the same Shore hardness. The Young's modulus of the polymers was strongly dependent and directly proportional to the PIB wt% in the SS of the TPUUs.  相似文献

Thermomechanical properties of polyurethanes (PUs) strongly depend on the molecular interactions and microphase structure. In this work, two chain extenders with different ratios, flexile 1,4-butanediol (BDO) and branched trimethylolpropane mono allyl ether (TMPAE),are used to tune the molecular interactions and microphase structures of a series of biodegradable thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs).In TPUs,the biodegradable polycaprolactone (PCL,Mn of 2000) is used as soft segment while 1,6-diisocyanatohexane (HDI) and chain extenders are used as hard segment.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR),proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscppy (1H-NMR),gel permeation chromatography (GPC),differential scanning calorimetry (DSC),dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and mechanical tests were performed to characterize the bulk structure and properties of TPUs.Compared with BDO,the steric bulk of TMPAE is larger. The increment of TMPAE can help to increase the hydrogen bond content, microphase separation, and the elastic modulus ratio (R),which would strongly affect the thermomechanical property of the TPUs.The results of this work verify the importance of the structure of chain extender on the properties of TPUs.It provides valuable information for further understanding the structure-property relationships of these polyurethanes.  相似文献

A series of non-isocyanate linear high molecular weight poly(ester urethane)s(PETUs)were prepared through an environmentallyfriendly route based on dimethyl carbonate,1,6-hexanediol and 1,6-hexanediamine.In this route, the polyurethane diol was first prepared by the reaction between bis-1,6-hexamethylencarbamate(BHC)and 1,6-hexanediol.A series of polyester soft segments of polyurethane have been synthesized from the polycondensation of adipic acid and different diols, including butanediol, hexanediol, octanediol and decanediol. The subsequent polycondensation of polyurethane diol and polyester diol led to linear PETUs.The resultant polymers were characterized by GPC,FTIR,1H-NMR,13C-NMR,DSC,WAXD,TGA and tensile test. The results indicated that PETUs possess weight-average molecular weights higher than 1×105 and the tensile strength as high as 10 MPa.The thermal properties, crystallization behavior, microphase separation behavior and morphology were studied by DSC and AFM,and the results indicated that the degree of phase separation was affected by two factors, the crystallization and hydrogen bonding interaction between soft segment and hard segment.  相似文献

A series of polyurea urethane block polymers based on either aminopropyl-terminated polycyanoethylmethylsiloxane (PCEMS) soft segments or soft segment blends of PCEMS and polytetramethylene oxide (PTMO) were synthesized. The hard segments consisted of 4,4′-methylenediphenylene diisocyanate (MDI) chain-extended with 1,4-butanediol. The hard segment content varied from 11 to 36%, whereas the PTMO weight fraction in the soft segment blends varied from 0.1 to 0.9. The cyanoethyl side group concentration was also varied during the synthesis of the PCEMS oligomer. The morphology and properties of these polymers were studied by differential scanning calorimetry, infrared spectroscopy, dynamic mechanical and tensile testing, and small-angle x-ray scattering. These materials exhibited microphase separation of the hard and soft segments; however, attaching polar cyanoethyl side groups along the apolar siloxane chains promoted phase mixing in comparison with polydimethylsiloxane-based polyurethanes. The increased phase mixing is postulated to lead to improved interfacial adhesion and thus can account for the observed improvement in ultimate tensile properties compared with polydimethylsiloxane-based polyurethanes. Both hard segment content and cyanoethyl concentration are important factors governing the morphological and tensile properties of these polymers.  相似文献

The synthesis, characterization, and structure–property behavior of polyurethanes containing polyisobutylene (PIB)/poly(tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO) soft co‐segments and bis(4‐isocyanatocyclohexyl)methane (HMDI)/hexanediol (HDO) hard segments is presented. The mechanical (stress/strain, hardness, and hysteresis) properties of these novel polyurethanes were investigated over a broad composition range. PIB‐based polyurethanes with HMDI/HDO hard segments showed better mechanical properties than earlier polyurethanes containing highly crystalline hard segments. The addition of moderate amounts (20% by weight) of PTMO significantly increased both tensile strengths and elongation. In the presence of larger amounts of PIB, these polyurethanes are expected to possess oxidative/hydrolytic/enzymatic stabilities superior to commercially available polyurethanes. These polyurethanes are softer and exhibit hysteresis superior to or comparable with conventional polyurethanes. According to initial thermal studies, these materials show good melt processibility. Overall, the mechanical properties of PIB based hybrid polyurethanes are similar to commercially important polyurethane type biomaterials. Our results show that the incorporation of PTMO segments to PIB‐based polyurethanes significantly improves elastomeric properties. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The surface properties and biocompatibility of a class of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) with applications in blood-contacting medical devices have been studied. Thin films of commercial TPUs and novel polyisobutylene (PIB)-poly(tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO) TPUs were characterized by contact angle measurements, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging. PIB-PTMO TPU surfaces have significantly higher C/N ratios and lower amounts of oxygen than the theoretical bulk composition, which is attributed to surface enrichment of PIB. Greater differences in the C/N ratios were observed with the softer compositions due to their higher relative amounts of PIB. The contact angles were higher on PIB-PTMO TPUs than on commercial polyether TPUs, indicating lower surface energy. AFM imaging showed phase separation and increasing domain sizes with increasing hard segment content. The biocompatibility was investigated by quantifying the adsorption of fouling and passivating proteins, fibrinogen (Fg) and human serum albumin (HSA) respectively, onto thin TPU films spin coated onto the electrode of a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D). Competitive adsorption experiments were performed with a mixture of Fg and albumin in physiological ratio followed by binding of GPIIb-IIIa, the platelet receptor ligand that selectively binds to Fg. The QCM-D results indicate similar adsorbed amounts of both Fg and HSA on PIB-PTMO TPUs and commercial TPUs. The strength of the protein interactions with the various TPU surfaces measured with AFM (colloidal probe) was similar among the various TPUs. These results suggest excellent biocompatibility of these novel PIB-PTMO TPUs, similar to that of polyether TPUs.  相似文献

A novel macrodiol based on mixed silicone and carbonate chemistries was synthesized and used as a soft segment precursor in the synthesis of two series of segmented polyurethane (PU) copolymers varying in hard segment content and soft segment molecular weight. The hard segments in these copolymers were derived from 4,4‐methylene diphenyl diisocyanate and 1,4‐butane diol. The phase transitions, microphase separation behavior, and mechanical properties of the copolymers were investigated using a variety of experimental methods. When compared with segmented PU copolymers having predominately poly(dimethyl siloxane) soft segments, these siloxane–carbonate soft segment copolymers exhibit enhanced intersegment mixing, and consequently relatively low mechanical modulus. With relatively low modulus and siloxane units in the soft phase, the siloxane–carbonate PUs have potential for use in cardiac and orthopedic biomedical applications. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel segmented polyurea elastomers containing soft polyisobutylene (PIB) segments were synthesized and characterized. The key ingredient, primary amine‐telechelic PIB oligomers (NH2‐PIB‐NH2) with number average molecular weights of 2500 and 6200 g/mol were synthesized. PIB‐based polyureas were prepared by using various aliphatic diisocyanates and diamine chain extenders with hard segment contents between 9.5 and 46.5% by weight. All copolymers displayed microphase morphologies as determined by dynamic mechanical analysis. Tensile strengths of nonchain‐extended and chain‐extended polyureas showed a linear dependence on the urea hard segment content. PIB‐based polyureas prepared with NH2‐PIB‐NH2 of Mn = 2500 g/mol, 4,4′‐methylendbis(cyclohexylisocyantate), and 1,6‐diaminohexane containing 45% hard segment exhibited 19.5 MPa tensile strength which rose to 23 MPa upon annealing at 150 °C for 12 h. With increasing hard segment content, elongation at break decreased from ~ 450% to a plateau of 110%. The hydrolytic and oxidative stability of PIB‐based polyureas were unprecedented. Although commercial “oxidatively resistant” thermoplastic polyurethanes degraded severely upon exposure to boiling water or concentrated nitric acid, the experimental polyureas survived without much degradation in properties. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The design, synthesis, characterization, and structure–property behavior of polyureas containing novel soft segments of mixed polyisobutylene (PIB)/poly(tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO) chains and conventional hard segments is presented. Modest amounts (12%) of PTMO in the soft PIB phase significantly increase both the tensile strength and elongation of the polyureas. These polyureas exhibit not only oxidative/hydrolytic stabilities far superior to Bionate® and Elast‐Eon® considered the most oxidatively stable polyurethanes on the market but also display mechanical properties (29 MPa tensile strength and 200% elongation) approaching those of conventional thermoplastic polyurethanes. The surfaces of these polyureas are covered/protected by PIB segments, which will lead to excellent biocompatibility. Our results demonstrate that the PTMO segments facilitate stress transfer from the continuous mixed soft phase to the dispersed hard phase, which strengthens and flexibilizes PIB‐based polyureas and thus significantly improves elastomeric properties without compromising oxidative and hydrolytic stability. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copper(I) catalyzed azide‐alkyne 1,3‐Huisgen cycloaddition reaction afforded the synthesis of triazole‐containing polyesters and segmented block copolyesters at moderate temperatures. Triazole‐containing homopolyesters exhibited significantly increased (~40 °C) glass transition temperatures (Tg) relative to high temperature, melt synthesis of polyesters with analogous structures. Quantitative synthesis of azido‐terminated poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) allowed for the preparation of segmented polyesters, which exhibited increased solubility and mechanical ductility relative to triazole‐containing homopolyesters. Differential scanning calorimetry demonstrated a soft segment (SS) Tg near ?60 °C for the segmented polyesters, consistent with microphase separation. Tensile testing revealed Young's moduli ranging from 7 to 133 MPa as a function of hard segment (HS) content, and stress at break values approached 10 MPa for 50 wt % HS segmented click polyesters. Dynamic mechanical analysis demonstrated an increased rubbery plateau modulus with increased HS content, and the Tg's of both the SS and HS did not vary with composition, confirming microphase separation. Atomic force microscopy also indicated microphase separated and semicrystalline morphologies for the segmented click polyesters. This is the first report detailing the preparation of segmented copolyesters using click chemistry for the formation of ductile membranes with excellent thermomechanical response. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of PCL/MDI/BDO segmented polyurethanes have been synthesized by two-step method in solution. The hard segment content ranges from 10% to 48% by weight, and the molecular weight of PCL diols is 1500. Hard segment spherulites have been observed in compression molded specimens of all of the samples except the one of the lowest hard segment content. The difficulty in sphernlite formation was explained as only in a small temperature range, the microphase separation rate may be faster than the crystallization rate and all these processes are very slow due to the hydrogen bonding between hard and soft segments and the interactions between hard segments themselves. PCL soft segments of molecular weight 1500 is still crystallizable and may form different crystalline superstructures.  相似文献

The effects of the dynamic polymerization method and temperature on the molecular aggregation structure and the mechanical and melting properties of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) were successfully clarified. TPUs were prepared from poly (ethylene adipate) glycol (Mn = 2074), 4,4′‐diphenylmethane diisocyanate and 1,4‐butanediol by the one‐shot (OS) and the prepolymer (PP) methods in bulk at dynamic polymerization temperatures ranging from 140 to 230 °C. Glass‐transition temperatures (Tgs) of the soft segment and melting points (Tms) of the hard segment domains of OS‐TPUs increased and decreased, respectively, with increasing polymerization temperatures, but those of PP‐TPUs were almost independent of the polymerization temperature. Tgs of the soft segment and Tms of the hard segment domains of these TPUs polymerized above 190 °C were almost the same regardless of the polymerization method. Solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) analyses of OS‐ and PP‐TPUs showed that the relative proton content of fast decay components, which corresponds to the hard segment domains, in these TPUs decreased with increasing polymerization temperatures. These results clearly show that the degree of microphase separation becomes weaker with increasing polymerization temperatures. The temperature dependence of dynamic storage modulus and loss tangent of OS‐TPUs coincided with those of PP‐TPUs at polymerization temperature above 190 °C. The apparent shear viscosity for OS‐ and PP‐TPUs polymerized above 190 °C approached a Newtonian behavior at low shear rates regardless of the polymerization method. These results indicate that TPUs polymerized at higher temperatures form almost the same molecular aggregation structures irrespective of the dynamic polymerization method. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Shape memory thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs), based on amorphous soft segment from the reaction of hexamethylene diisocyanate and 1,2‐butane diol, and the crystalline hard segment from 4,4′‐methylenediphenyl diisocyanate and 1,6‐hexanediol, were modified by hydrophilic segments, diol‐terminated poly(ethylene oxide) or dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA). Differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical testing, tensile testing, and the measurement of shape memory effect, water swell, and water vapor permeability were carried out to examine these TPUs. The hydrophilic segment increased the hysterisis in shape memory effect by reducing the crystallinity of the hard segment. The neutralized DMPA unit enhanced the sensitivity of the thermoresponsive water vapor permeability (WVP) by amplifying the increase of WVP at the temperature range above the glass transition temperature. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The degree of phase separation in several moisture‐cured poly(urethane urea)s (PUUs) was studied by FTIR spectroscopy, wide angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), and temperature‐modulated differential scanning calorimetry (TMDSC). This latter technique was shown to be particularly useful in analysing the degree of phase separation in PUU polymers. Both phase mixing and phase segregation coexisted in the PUUs and the degree of phase separation increased as the urea hard segment (HS) content in the PUU increased. The maximum solubility of urea HSs into the polyol soft segments (SSs) was achieved for 50 wt % urea HS content in diol‐based PUUs, whereas for triol‐based PUUs the highest solubility between HS and SS was reached for lower urea HS amount. Finally, the higher the urea HS content the higher the extent of phase separation in the PUU. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 45: 3034–3045, 2007  相似文献

Novel polyurethanes consisting of polyisobutylene (PIB)/poly(tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO) or PIB/poly(hexamethylene carbonate) (PC) soft co‐segments in combination with 4,4′‐methylene‐bis(cyclohexyl isocyanate)/1,6‐hexanediol, 1,4‐butanediol, or 1,6‐hexamethylene diamine hard segments exhibit excellent mechanical properties (upto 31 MPa tensile strength with 700% elongation) together with unprecedented oxidative/hydrolytic stability. A structural model of the morphology of these polyurethanes was developed that reflects this combination of properties. The key new elements of our model are H bridges between the PTMO and PC type soft and urethane hard segments, which compatibilize the soft and hard domains, and the presence of large quantities of chemically resistant PIB soft segments that protect the other oxidatively/hydrolytically vulnerable constituents. A variety of FTIR, DSC, SAXS, AFM, and DMTA experiments strongly support the proposed morphological model. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 6180–6190, 2009  相似文献

Thermodynamic incompatibility between the hard and soft segments in thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) leads to a two-phase microstructure, which is usually demonstrated by the characterizations of fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The effect of thermal-oxidative aging durations (up to 300 days) and temperatures (40, 50, 55, 70°C) on the microstructure of TPUs were investigated by FTIR, DSC, specific surface energy and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) in this work. The TPUs were synthesized by 4,4′-methylenediphenyl diisocyanate and 1,4-butanediol as hard segments and poly(tetramethylene glycol) as soft segments. The result demonstrates that the degree of the phase separation value in virgin TPUs is about 0.332. The specific surface energies of hard and soft segments are 56.9 and 35.7 mJ/cm2, respectively. Furthermore, the degree of microphase separation and damping property achieved by the aid of the Gauss method and DMA, respectively, of the TPUs show an obvious decrease during the durations. Moreover, the change of glass transition temperature T g of the TPUs was also investigated by the DMA. The result indicates that the T g of the TPUs is almost unchanged with the aging temperatures and durations.  相似文献

Naturally occurring oleic and undecylenic acids were used as raw materials for the synthesis of novel polyurethanes (PUs). The application of environmentally friendly thiol‐ene additions to 10‐undecenoate and oleate derivatives was studied with the goal of obtaining renewable diols. The resulting monomers were then polymerized with 4,4′‐methylenebis (phenylisocyanate), in N,N‐dimethylformamide solution using tin (II) 2‐ethylhexanoate as catalyst, to produce the corresponding thermoplastic PUs (TPUs). Also, ultrasound irradiation has been tested to improve the synthesis of PU. Under these conditions, TPUs were obtained in high yields (80–99%) with weight‐average molecular weights in the 36–83 kDa range. The chemical structures of PUs were assessed by FTIR and NMR spectroscopy. The thermal and mechanical properties of the synthesized TPUs have been studied and they showed a clear dependence on the structure of the parent diol. MTT test was carried out to asses the potential cytotoxicity of the prepared PUs, indicating no cytotoxic response. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献
