Using numerical calculations, we compare the transition probabilities of many spins in random magnetic fields, subject to either frequent projective measurements, frequent phase modulations, or a mix of modulations and measurements. For various distribution functions, we find the transition probability under frequent modulations is suppressed most if the pulse delay is short and the evolution time is larger than a critical value. Furthermore, decay freezing occurs only under frequent modulations as the pulse delay approaches zero. In the large pulse-delay region, however, the transition probabilities under frequent modulations are highest among the three control methods.  相似文献

Surface diffusion of interacting adsorbates is here analyzed within the context of two fundamental phenomena of quantum dynamics, namely the quantum Zeno effect and the anti-Zeno effect. The physical implications of these effects are introduced here in a rather simple and general manner within the framework of non-selective measurements and for two (surface) temperature regimes: high and very low (including zero temperature). The quantum intermediate scattering function describing the adsorbate diffusion process is then evaluated for flat surfaces, since it is fully analytical in this case. Finally, a generalization to corrugated surfaces is also discussed. In this regard, it is found that, considering a Markovian framework and high surface temperatures, the anti-Zeno effect has already been observed, though not recognized as such.  相似文献

Frequent projective measurements performed on a bipartite joint pure state system will result in the quantum Zeno effect on the subsystem of interest. The implications of the Copenhagen Variant of the Modal Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics are studied in the context of the quantum theory of measurement. Two formulations of this interpretation are discussed. Both of them imply specifications of the notion of measurement which go beyond the minimal calibration condition of a measurement. The weaker one implies some algebraic and topological constrains on the measurement coupling, whereas the stronger formulation of the same interpretation implies that measurements are necessarily of the first kind.  相似文献

In this Letter, we investigate the occurrence of the Zeno and anti-Zeno effects for quantum Brownian motion. We single out the parameters of both the system and the reservoir governing the crossover between Zeno and anti-Zeno dynamics. We demonstrate that, for high reservoir temperatures, the short time behavior of environment induced decoherence is ultimately responsible for the occurrence of either the Zeno or the anti-Zeno effect. Finally, we suggest a way to manipulate the decay rate of the system and to observe a controlled continuous passage from decay suppression to decay acceleration using engineered reservoirs in the trapped ion context.  相似文献

In quantum physics, a measurement is represented by a projection on some closed subspace of a Hilbert space. We study algebras of operators that abstract from the algebra of projections on closed subspaces of a Hilbert space. The properties of such operators are justified on epistemological grounds. Quantum measurements play a crucial role in quantum mechanics since they perturb, unavoidably and irreversibly, the state of the measured quantum system. More extremely, the constant observation of a quantum system can even freeze its dynamics to a subspace, effectively truncating the Hilbert space of the system. It represents the quantum version of the famous flying arrow Zeno paradox, and is called quantum Zeno dynamics. In general, it can be obtained by applying frequent consecutive quantum measurements that are equally spaced in time. Here, we introduce time disorder in the measurement sequence, and analytically investigate how this temporal stochasticity may affect the confinement probability of the system in the subspace. As main result, we then exploit how different dissipative and coherent Zeno protocols can be generalized to this stochastic scenario. Finally, our analytical predictions are numerically tested on a paradigmatic spin chain where we find a trade‐off between a probabilistic scheme with high fidelity (compared to perfect subspace dynamics) and a deterministic one with a slightly lower fidelity, moving further steps towards new schemes of Zeno‐based control for future quantum technologies.  相似文献

Starting from the assumption that rod cells are sensitive to single photons, we propose a method to verify the existence of a quantum superposition in the retina, observing the Rabi oscillations in the quantum interaction of a coherent laser light with the rod cells. The computer simulation shows that the oscillations visibility is a robust parameter, so that it would be possible to observe the fringes also in presence of strong decoherence. The feasibility of the experiment is ensured by the new MEA (microelectrode array) technology, that allows to record the transretinal voltage change of a single retinal segment.  相似文献

Bell and Zeno     
Bell's inequalities and related inequalities of Wigner, Clauser–Horne–Shimony–Holt, Accardi–Fedullo, Gudder–Zanghi, Herbert–Peres, Khrennikov, others, are shown to be contained within a general operator trigonometry developed by this author starting in 1967. These inequalities are improved here to useful quantum spin correlation identities. Secondly, the Zeno problems from quantum measurement theory are traced from early work by this author starting in 1974, to the present. We have proposed the mathematical formulations of quantum Zeno and anti-Zeno effects at non-zero temperature on vibrational population transfer and dissociation of a diatomic system. The proposed formulation has been tested for diatomic systems HBr+ and HI using time-dependent Fourier grid Hamiltonian method. The effect of temperature on the dynamics is incorporated through the population distribution at different vibrational states following Boltzmann distribution formula. It has been found that with increase in temperature Zeno effect increases and anti-Zeno effect decreases in case of survival probability on ground vibrational state. In case of dissociation, with increase in temperature Zeno effect increases while anti-Zeno effect remains almost same.  相似文献

Consecutive nonlinear optical interactions consisting of two coupled parametric processes, namely, the nondegenerate spontaneous parametric down-conversion and up-conversion, are analyzed. The vacuum state of the input light is considered to be an unstable state decaying into a reservoir of down-converted modes, with one of the modes generated being continuously measured using the up-conversion process. Mean photon numbers at interacting frequencies are studied. Special attention is paid to the case where the nonlinear coupling coefficient for the up-conversion process is much larger than that for the nondegenerate spontaneous parametric down-conversion. It is shown that in this case the result of such consecutive interactions can be interpreted from the viewpoint of the quantum Zeno effect.  相似文献

Quantum Zeno Dynamics restricts the evolution of a system in a tailorable subspace of the Hilbert space by repeated measurements of a proper observable. This restricted dynamics can be counterintuitive and lead to the generation of interesting nonclassical states. We describe an experiment implementing the Zeno dynamics in an atomic Rydberg level manifold, and we propose an implementation in the cavity quantum electrodynamics context. In order to obtain sum rules and spectral representations the Hermiticity property , A = A, of observables is used.
