The 7Be approach in estimating the erosion rates is based on the assumption that the deposition of 7Be fallout associated with the erosive event is spatially uniform. The objective of the present work was to verify this assumption by assessing the influence of heavy rainfalls on the 7Be spatial distribution in Seibersdorf soils, Austria. Incremental and bulk soil depth profiles were collected from a flat site, undisturbed for the last 9 months prior sampling and with no evidence of erosion or deposition after the occurrence of heavy rains (>30 mm day?1). The mean value of the 7Be areal activities (Bq m?2) measured at 10 different points from the selected area was 312 Bq m?2. This value corresponded to a total rainfall of 295 mm within the last 5 months prior sampling, considering that the highest mass activity of 7Be at soil surface will decay below the minimum detectable activity after 5 months’ time. The resulted coefficient of variation had a value of 19 % showing acceptable spatial variability of 7Be fallout connected with individual storm events on a local scale.  相似文献

The atmospheric deposition fluxes of 7Be, 210Pb and 210Po at Xiamen were measured. The samples were collected from March 2004 to April 2005 and the sampling period was one month. The 7Be and 210Pb activity were measured using HPGe γ-spectrometer after concentration using Fe(OH)3 co-precipitation method. The 210Po was counted with an α-spectrometer after the sample was digested and spontaneous plated onto a silver planchet. At Xiamen, the atmospheric deposition fluxes of 7Be varied between 0.11 and 2.93 Bq·m−2·d−1 and the average was 1.64 Bq·m−2·d−1; 210Pb fluxes varied between 0.04 and 0.85 Bq·m−2·d−1, and the average was 0.51 Bq·m−2·d−1; 210Po fluxes varied between 0.002 and 0.133 Bq·m−2·d−1, and the average was 0.061 Bq·m−2·d−1. There were positive correlations between the deposition fluxes of 7Be, 210Pb or 210Po and the amount of precipitation. The residence time of aerosols varied between 6.0 and 54.0 days with a mean of 27.1 days, which were calculated by 210Po/210Pb fluxes ratios.  相似文献

137Cs was measured in soil samples collected in Korea from 2006 to 2008 using a low-level background gamma-ray spectrometer that was designed and developed by KRISS (Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science). The objectives of this study are to evaluate the newly developed low-level background gamma-ray spectrometer and, consequently, to provide information on the horizontal and vertical distribution of 137Cs in Korean soil. 137Cs concentrations in surface soil varied from 12.8 ± 0.9 to 108 ± 4 Bq kg?1, and the vertical profiles of 137Cs from the Nari basin in Ulleung Island in the East Sea/Sea of Japan and Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, Jeju Island, showed a higher concentration in the surface layer that gradually decreased with depth. On the other hand, the 137Cs concentration in soil samples collected from Bukhan Mountain National Park in Seoul showed a subsurface maximum and decreased with depth. The 137Cs inventories in the soil column were calculated to be 1,830–4,360 Bq m?2 with a mean of 2,770 Bq m?2, which was the same order of magnitude as the global fallout inventories in the mid-latitude region of the Northern Hemisphere.  相似文献

The temporal variation of the radon concentration, and the radon and thoron concentrations every 3 months for a year were measured using two types of devices in a landmark skyscraper, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Daiichi Building. In the measurement of temporal variation of the radon concentration using a pulse type ionization chamber, the average radon concentration was 21 ± 13 Bq m?3 (2–68 Bq m?3). The measured indoor radon concentration had a strong relationship with the operation of the mechanical ventilation system and the activities of the office workers. The radon concentration also increased together with temperature. Other environmental parameters, such as air pressure and relative humidity, were not related to the radon concentration. In the long-term measurements using a passive radon and thoron discriminative monitor, no seasonal variation was observed. The annual average concentrations of radon and thoron were 16 ± 8 and 16 ± 7 Bq m?3, respectively. There was also no relationship between the two concentrations. The annual average effective dose for office workers in this skyscraper was estimated to be 0.08 mSv y?1 for 2000 working hours per year. When considering the indoor radon exposure received from their residential dwellings using the annual mean radon concentration indoors in Japan (15.5 Bq m?3), the annual average effective dose was estimated to be 0.37 mSv y?1. Atmospheric fallout of7Be was measured over a 2 year period (January 1995–January 1997) at Damascus city (33 No, 727 m above sea level). The annual total deposition of7Be was found to be 420 and 634 Bq·m−2 for 1995 and 1996, respectively, reflecting a Mediterranean climate where two well recognized periods are dominant (wet and dry). The depositions in the wet periods were 303 Bq·m−2 and 517 Bq·m−2 for 1995 and 1996, respectively, while unexpected equal deposition rates in the two dry periods were found to be about 117 Bq·m−2. In addition, monthly deposition rate of7Be showed a maxima in February in 1995 and January for 1996. Moreover, a comparison has been set for our measurements and other data obtained at different locations in the world.  相似文献

The calibration factor of 0.029 ± 0.0002 track cm?2 per Bq d m?3 for radon concentration measurements was determined using CR-39 and RAD7 detectors. The 222Rn concentration varied from 2,225 to 9,950 and 12 to 1,002 Bq m?3 in soil and water, respectively. 7Be deposition fluxes and atmospheric concentrations were measured at Rokkasho Village, Aomori Prefecture, Japan, from 2000 to 2005. It was confirmed that the 7Be deposition fluxes were minimum in summer, and the fallout maximizes in winter. The atmospheric concentration of 7Be was especially low in summer, and high in the other three seasons. A positive correlation was observed between the amount of precipitation and 7Be deposition. Clear seasonal differences were evident among the ratios of 7Be deposition flux to precipitation amounts in the four seasons. The ratios were especially high in winter, higher than those in the other three seasons. 7Be deposition flux was estimated by a simple simulation model using atmospheric 7Be concentrations and local meteorological data. As a result, the estimated deposition value was relatively lower than the measured value in winter.  相似文献

Atmospheric tritium activity is measured regularly around Narora Atomic Power Station (NAPS) since gaseous waste, which contains tritium, is being released through a 145 m high stack at NAPS site. Atmospheric data collected during 2004–2008 shows a large variation of 3H concentration in air, fluctuating in the range of ≤0.2–91.6 Bq m?3. Significantly, higher tritium levels were measured in samples near the site boundary (1.6 km) of NAPS compared to off-site locations. The atmospheric dilution factor was found to be in the range of 1.1 × 10?7–7.3 × 10?7 s m?3. The scavenging ratio of NAPS site was found to be varying from 0.2 × 104 to 14.1 × 104 (Bq m?3 rain water per Bq m?3 air). The inhalation dose to a member of general public at different distances (1.6–30 km) from NAPS site was found to be ranged from 0.08–0.21 μSv year?1.  相似文献

The activity concentrations and absorbed gamma dose of primordial radionuclides 238U, 232Th and 40K were determined employing γ-ray spectrometry in 31 soil samples from the land area earmarked for house construction in Perambalur district and 14 rock samples from quarries that supply stones for the entire district. The soil samples registered relatively a higher mean value of 13.2 Bq kg?1 for 238U, 66 Bq kg?1 for 232Th and 340.3 Bq kg?1 for 40K as compared to mean values for rock samples (238U—8.0 Bq kg?1; 232Th—65.1 Bq kg?1; 40K—199.1 Bq kg?1). The mean absorbed gamma dose rate for soil (61.4 nGy h?1) marginally exceeded the prescribed limit of 55 nGy h?1 while, rocks registered the mean absorbed gamma dose rate of 10.4 nGy h?1. The mean radium equivalent activity was distinctly higher in soil (130.6 Bq kg?1) than in rock (20.0 Bq kg?1). However, these values were lower than the limit (370 Bq kg?1) set by OECD for building materials. It is evident from the data that the soil and rocks do not pose any radiological risk for house constructions in Perambalur district.  相似文献

The seasonal variation of the 7Be activities in air and the size distribution of the 7Be aerosols were studied by using a continuous air sampler and a five stage cascade impactor. The mean monthly activity level of 7Be at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) site varied from 0.5 to 4.8 Bq·m−3 and revealed a seasonal variation, in which the 7Be activity levels were high in winter and low in summer. The mass size distribution showed a bi-modal distribution with a higher peak around 0.49 μm and a smaller peak between 3 μm and 7.2 μm. The activity median aerodynamic diameter (AMAD) decreased with increasing ambient 7Be concentrations. The mean residence times by using a mean growth rate of 0.004 μm·h−1 were estimated to be 2.5–6.4 days. The AMAD has an increasing tendency with higher relative humidity. It seemed that the high humidity condition facilitated the growth of the aerosol, resulting in increased deposition rates of the aerosols and the low 7Be content in the surface air. The AMAD of the 7Be aerosols increased with an increasing temperature, but the temperature dependency of AMAD should be explained with geological and meteorological conditions.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to determine 137Cs and 40K radioactivities in soil samples taken from the Babia Góra National Park (BPN) in south Poland. The cluster analysis (CA) and principal component analysis (PCA) were used to discuss the obtained data. 10 cm thick soil cores were collected from the BPN area. Each sample was divided into three sub-samples. The samples were dried, homogenized and packed in polyethylene containers. The radioactivities of 137Cs and 40K were measured by means of gamma spectrometry. It was found that 137Cs radioactivity in the whole 10 cm soil cores was in the range from 1,916 to 28,551 Bq m?2. The radioactivity of 40K varied from 1,642 to 25,654 Bq m?2. Using CA it was possible to diverse the soils taking into account soil types. By use of the PCA method, it was chosen three factors which are appropriate to characterize researched parameters.  相似文献

The activity concentration of primordial radionuclides 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K in soil samples of Thirthahalli taluk were measured systematically by using a low background HPGe detector coupled to 16 K MCA. The measured activity concentration of 226Ra lies between 5.1?±?0.2 and 79.5?±?1.7 Bq kg?1with an average activity of 25.99 Bq kg?1, 232Th ranges from 5.1?±?0.3 to 95.3?±?2.2 Bq kg?1with an average activity of 33.60 Bq kg?1and that of 40K varies from 18.3?±?1.5 to 833.4?±?17.5 Bq kg?1with an average activity of 175.52 Bq kg?1. Higher concentration of these radionuclides were found in the soil samples where the regional geology is granites. The consequential gamma dose and the corresponding radiation hazard was also estimated and is found to be within the permissible limits. The possible radiological impact on the public was also determined and these results are presented in this paper.  相似文献

Inhalation of radon, thoron and their decay products can cause a significant health hazard when present in enhanced levels in the indoor environment like a human dwelling. In the present work a set of indoor radon and thoron measurements was carried out using time-integrated passive twin cup dosimeters containing LR-115 Type II solid state nuclear track detectors in different houses of Khurja City in Bulandshahar district of U.P. in India, built of the same type of building materials. The radon gas concentration was found to vary from 9.18 to 23.19 Bq m?3 with an average value of 16.02 Bq m?3 (SD = 3.68) and the thoron gas concentration varied from 2.78 to 9.03 Bq m?3 with an average value of 5.36 Bq m?3 (SD = 1.58). The radon progeny concentration ranged from 0.99 to 2.51 mWL with an average value of 1.77 mWL (SD = 0.40) and the concentration of thoron progeny was found to vary from 0.30 to 0.98 mWL with an average value of 0.58 mWL (SD = 0.17). The annual effective dose varied from 0.27 to 0.67 mSv year?1 with an average value of 0.47 mSv year?1(SD = 0.10).  相似文献

We carried out time-series observations of 210Po and 210Pb radioactivity in the western North Pacific Ocean. The sinking fluxes of particulate organic carbon (POC) in the mesopelagic zone were estimated from 210Po radioactivity during several seasons in the subarctic and subtropical regions of the western North Pacific. The seasonal changes of POC fluxes at a depth of 400 m were larger in the subarctic region than in the subtropical region. The annual mean POC flux at a depth of 400 m was larger in the subarctic region (57 mgC m?2 day?1) than in the subtropical region (36 mgC m?2 day?1). The annual mean of the e-ratio (the ratio of POC flux to primary productivity) in the subarctic region (18 %) was about twice the e-ratio in the subtropical region (10 %). These results imply that the efficiency of the biological pump is larger in the subarctic region than in the subtropical region of the western North Pacific.  相似文献

Radionuclide concentrations in wharf roaches inhabiting coastal areas of Honshu, Japan, were investigated in October 2011 and June 2012. Relative high concentrations of 110mAg (2.1–127 Bq kg-wet?1), 134Cs (2.6–61 Bq kg-wet?1), and 137Cs (3.5–92 Bq kg-wet?1) were detected in specimens from the eastern Honshu areas. Significantly lower 137Cs concentrations (0.7–1.6 Bq kg-wet?1) were detected in specimens from western and northern Honshu. The decay-corrected 137Cs concentration was significantly inversely correlated with the distance from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant. Thus, wharf roach may serve as a good bioindicator for monitoring radioactive contamination of its habitats.  相似文献

In situ gamma-ray measurements were taken at eight locations in the Gran Sasso National Laboratory (Italy). Count rates for gamma radiation within the energy range of 7–2,734 keV varied from 8 to 60 γ s?1. The arithmetic mean was 49 γ s?1 for measurements taken without a collimator. The average gamma flux inside the Lab was 0.25 γ cm?2 s?1. The sedimentary rocks surrounding the Lab are characterized by low activity concentrations of uranium and thorium, equal to 1.7 and 1.4 Bq kg?1, respectively.  相似文献

Impact of the TEPCO Fukushima-Daiichi NPP accident, FNPP1, to the North Pacific Ocean occurred through two pathways, namely direct release and atmospheric deposition to wide ocean surface. We collected more than 100 seawater samples in the North Pacific Ocean in April and May 2011 by seven commercial ships as VOS. Since the sample volume was 2 l each, we measured radiocaesium activity at Ogoya Underground Facility to obtain reliable activity. 137Cs was detected at all stations and 134Cs was detected at most of the stations in the North Pacific Ocean. The 137Cs activity ranged from around 1 to 1,000 Bq m?3 with activity ratios of 134Cs/137Cs close to 1 which is a signature of radiocaesium originated from the FNPP1 accident. At east of the International Date Line north of 40°N in the Pacific Ocean in April 2011, the 134Cs activity ranged from 2 to 12 Bq m?3.  相似文献

The distributions of cadmium and lead in marine sediments, surrounding soil, stones, and atmospheric particulate matter were determined at different locations in Split, Croatia. The determination of cadmium and lead was performed by flame atomic absorption spectrometry whereas atmospheric particulate matter samples were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma–optical emission spectrometry. Cadmium concentrations in the stones and soil were between 0.2 to 0.6 µg g?1 and 0.2 to 0.9 µg g?1. The concentration in the atmospheric particulate matter were <0.2 µg m?2 d?1(detection limit) to 1.4 µg m?2 d?1. Lead concentrations in marine sediments, stones, soil, and atmospheric particulate matter ranged from 31.2 to 144.4 µg g?1, 9.3 to 29.4 µg g?1, 11.3 to 66.1 µg g?1, and 0.5 to 241.4 µg m?2 d?1, respectively. The relationship between determined parameters was established using principal component analysis and the results are in agreement with the assumption that anthropogenic sources play important roles for lead and cadmium distribution.  相似文献

A high-volume air sampler and a high-resolution gamma-ray spectrometer have been used to measure the activity of 7Be in near-surface atmospheric aerosols at sampling frequency of 3 days week for 1 year from August 2009 to July 2010 at Beijing in the mid-latitude region of East Asia monsoon. The measurements indicate that the average concentration of 7Be was 8.39 ± 0.49 mBq m?3, which was significantly higher than values reported for other cities in the East Asia monsoon region and in the world during the same period. The maximum and minimum of the weekly means of 7Be concentration were observed in September and May, respectively. The 7Be concentrations varied in accordance with the monsoon phases. Low but frequent wet precipitation may have caused lower 7Be observed in July when southeasterly was prevailing. Higher seasonal mean of 7Be concentrations in autumn could be attributed to the abnormal atmospheric circulation in autumn 2009.  相似文献

Submarine groundwater discharge is the fresh groundwater discharge to sea that impacts the coastal regions. Radon (222Rn) isotope has been used to quantify SGD in coleroon river estuary, India. Continuous 222Rn analyses were attempted for 10 days in groundwater and pore water samples at three different locations. 222Rn in groundwater ranges between 35.0 and 222.0 Bq m?3 and in pore water between 14.0 and 150.0 Bq m?3 irrespective of locations. The radon mass balance estimated total SGD rate ranges between 2.37 and 7.47 m days?1. The SGD increases with distance from coast, influenced by tides and hydrological features.  相似文献
