Replacing invertibility with quasi-invertibility in Bass' first stable range condition we discover a new class of rings, the QB-rings. These constitute a considerable enlargement of the class of rings with stable rank one (B-rings) and include examples like End
(V), the ring of endomorphisms of a vector space V over some field
, and

), the ring of all row- and column-finite matrices over
. We show that the category of QB-rings is stable under the formation of corners, ideals, and quotients, as well as matrices and direct limits. We also give necessary and sufficient conditions for an extension of QB-rings to be a QB-ring, and show that extensions of B-rings often lead to QB-rings. Specializing to the category of exchange rings we characterize the subset of exchange QB-rings as those in which every von Neumann regular element extends to a maximal regular element, i.e., a quasi-invertible element. Finally we show that the C*-algebras that are QB-rings are exactly the extremally rich C*-algebras studied by L. G. Brown and the second author. 相似文献

We prove that a commutative Bezout ring is an Hermitian ring if and only if it is a Bezout ring of stable rank 2. It is shown that a noncommutative Bezout ring of stable rank 1 is an Hermitian ring. This implies that a noncommutative semilocal Bezout ring is an Hermitian ring. We prove that the Bezout domain of stable rank 1 with two-element group of units is a ring of elementary divisors if and only if it is a duo-domain. 相似文献

In this paper, we show that if rings A and B are (s, 2)-rings, then so is the ring of a Morita Context([[A^S,≤]],[[B^S,≤]],[[M^S,≤]],[[N^S,≤]],ψ^S,Ф^S)of generalized power series. We study the polynomial equations vanishing on tensors of a given rank. By means of polarization we reduce them to elements $A$ of the group algebra ${\mathbb {Q}}[S_n\times S_n]$ and describe explicit linear equations on the coefficients of $A$ to vanish on tensors of a given rank. Further, we reduce the study to the Schur ring over the group $S_n\times S_n$ that arises from the diagonal conjugacy action of $S_n$ . More closely, we consider elements of ${\mathbb {Q}}[S_n\times S_n]$ vanishing on tensors of rank $n-1$ and describe them in terms of triples of Young diagrams, their irreducible characters, and nonvanishing of their Kronecker coefficients. Also, we construct a family of elements in ${\mathbb {Q}}[S_n\times S_n]$ vanishing on tensors of rank $n-1$ and illustrate our approach by a sharp lower bound on the border rank of an explicitly produced tensor. Finally, we apply this construction to prove a lower bound $5n^2/4$ on the border rank of the matrix multiplication tensor (being, of course, weaker than the best known one $(2-\epsilon )\cdot n^2$ , due to Landsberg, Ottaviani). 相似文献
