We describe a new algorithm to compute the eigenvalues of singular Sturm-Liouville problems with separated self-adjoint boundary conditions for both the limit-circle nonoscillatory and oscillatory cases. Also described is a numerical code implementing this algorithm and how it compares with SLEIGN. The latter is the only effective general purpose software available for the computation of the eigenvalues of singular Sturm-Liouville problems.  相似文献

We study singular left-definite Sturm-Liouville problems with an indefinite weight function. The existence of eigenvalues is established based on the existence of eigenvalues of corresponding right-definite problems. Furthermore, for each singular left-definite problem with limit-circle non-oscillatory endpoints we construct a regular left-definite problem with the same eigenvalues and use it to obtain properties of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. Inequalities among eigenvalues recently established for regular left-definite problems are extended to the singular case.  相似文献

This paper describes the algorithms and theory behind a new code for vector Sturm-Liouville problems. A new spectral function is defined for vector Sturm-Liouville problems; this is an integer valued function of the eigenparameter which has discontinuities precisely at the eigenvalues. We describe numerical algorithms which may be used to compute the new spectral function, and its use as amiss-distance function in a new code which solves automatically a large class of regular and singular vector Sturm-Liouville problems. Vector Sturm-Liouville problems arise naturally in quantum mechanical applications. Usually they are singular. The advantages of the author's code lie in its ability to solve singular problems automatically, and in the fact that the user may specify the required eigenvalue by its index.  相似文献

This work is our first step to get multiresolution approximation of eigenelements of Sturm-Liouville problems within bounded domain of varied nature. The formula for obtaining elements of representation of Sturm-Liouville operator involving polynomial coefficients in wavelet basis of Daubechies family have been derived in a form which can be readily used for their computations by a simple computer program. Estimates of errors for both the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions are also presented here. The proposed wavelet-Galerkin scheme based on scale functions and wavelets of Daubechies family having three or four vanishing moments of their wavelets has been applied to get approximate eigenelements of regular and singular Sturm-Liouville problems within bounded domain and compared with the exact or approximate results whenever available. From our study it appears that the proposed method is efficient and rapidly convergent in comparison to other approximation schemes based on variational method in Haar basis or finite difference methods studied by Bujurke et al. Sampling theory has been used to compute with great accuracy the eigenvalues of regular and singular Sturm-Liouville problems of Bessel Type. We shall consider in this paper the case of general coupled real or complex self-adjoint boundary conditions. We study the eigenvalues of matrix problems involving Jacobi and cyclic Jacobi matrices as functions of certain entries. Of particular interest are the limits of the eigenvalues as these entries approach infinity. In this paper, using spectral differentiation matrix and an elimination treatment of boundary conditions, Sturm-Liouville problems (SLPs) are discretized into standard matrix eigenvalue problems. The eigenvalues of the original Sturm-Liouville operator are approximated by the eigenvalues of the corresponding Chebyshev differentiation matrix (CDM). This greatly improves the efficiency of the classical Chebyshev collocation method for SLPs, where a determinant or a generalized matrix eigenvalue problem has to be computed. Furthermore, the state-of-the-art spectral method, which incorporates the barycentric rational interpolation with a conformal map, is used to solve regular SLPs. A much more accurate mapped barycentric Chebyshev differentiation matrix (MBCDM) is obtained to approximate the Sturm-Liouville operator. Compared with many other existing methods, the MBCDM method achieves higher accuracy and efficiency, i.e., it produces fewer outliers. When a large number of eigenvalues need to be computed, the MBCDM method is very competitive. Hundreds of eigenvalues up to more than ten digits accuracy can be computed in several seconds on a personal computer.  相似文献

We study the finite spectrum of Sturm-Liouville problems with transmission conditions. For any positive integer n, we construct a class of regular Sturm-Liouville problems with transmission conditions, which have exactly n eigenvalues, and these n eigenvalues can be located anywhere in the complex plane in non-self-adjoint case and anywhere along the real line in the self-adjoint case.  相似文献
