A new hybrid scheme is proposed, which combines the improved third‐order weighted essentially non‐oscillatory (WENO) scheme presented in this paper with a fourth‐order central scheme by a novel switch. Two major steps have been gone through for the construction of a high‐performance and stable hybrid scheme. Firstly, to enhance the WENO part of the hybrid scheme, a new reference smoothness indicator has been devised, which, combined with the nonlinear weighting procedure of WENO‐Z, can drive the third‐order WENO toward the optimal linear scheme faster. Secondly, to improve the hybridization with the central scheme, a hyperbolic tangent hybridization switch and its efficient polynomial counterpart are devised, with which we are able to fix the threshold value introduced by the hybridization. The new hybrid scheme is thus formulated, and a set of benchmark problems have been tested to verify the performance enhancement. Numerical results demonstrate that the new hybrid scheme achieves excellent performance in resolving complex flow features, even compared with the fifth‐order classical WENO scheme and WENO‐Z scheme. The local smoothness indicators play an important role in the performance of a weighted essentially nonoscillatory (WENO) scheme. Due to having only 2 points available on each substencil, the local smoothness indicators calculated by conventional methods make the third‐order WENO scheme too dissipative. In this paper, we propose a different method to calculate the indicators by using all the 3 points on the global stencil of the third‐order WENO scheme. The numerical results demonstrate that the WENO scheme with the new indicators has less dissipation and better resolution than the conventional third‐order WENO scheme of Jiang and Shu for both smooth and discontinuous solutions.  相似文献

Hybrid schemes are very efficient for complex compressible flow simulation. However, for most existing hybrid schemes in literature, empirical problem‐dependent parameters are always needed to detect shock waves and hence greatly decrease the robustness and accuracy of the hybrid scheme. In this paper, based on the nonlinear weights of the weighted essentially non‐oscillatory (WENO) scheme, a novel weighting switch function is proposed. This function approaches 1 with high‐order accuracy in smooth regions and 0 near discontinuities. Then, with the new weighting switch function, a seventh‐order hybrid compact‐reconstruction WENO scheme (HCCS) is developed. The new hybrid scheme uses the same stencil as the fifth‐order WENO scheme, and it has seventh‐order accuracy in smooth regions even at critical points. Numerical tests are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and robustness of both the switch function and HCCS. Comparisons also reveal that HCCS has lower dissipation and less computational cost than the seventh‐order WENO scheme. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

To address accuracy issues for direct numerical simulation, a hybrid scheme based on the weighted compact scheme (WCS) and weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) scheme is developed. The new hybrid method incorporates the advantages of both schemes. Time integration is performed using the fourth-order total variation diminishing Runge–Kutta method with a characteristic filter. The accuracy of the scheme is assessed using several benchmark problems. Results show that the proposed scheme produces a more accurate solution for problems involving shocks and discontinuities in comparison with the traditional shock-capturing methods.  相似文献

This paper describes a new numerical study of the flat plate shock/boundary‐layer interaction by using a weighted high‐resolution, total variation diminishing (TVD) scheme. The key difference of this study from former studies is that new secondary vortices in the separated region have been found for the first time, with increasing the impinging shock angle or the free‐stream Mach number. The blood flow model in arteries admits the steady state solutions, for which the flux gradient is nonzero, and is exactly balanced by the source term. In this paper, by means of hydrostatic reconstruction, we construct a high order discontinuous Galerkin method, which exactly preserves the dead‐man steady state, which is characterized by a discharge equal to zero (analogue to hydrostatic equilibrium). Moreover, the method maintains genuine high order of accuracy. Subsequently, we apply the key idea to finite volume weighted essentially non‐oscillatory schemes and obtain a well‐balanced finite volume weighted essentially non‐oscillatory scheme. Extensive numerical experiments are performed to verify the well‐balanced property, high order accuracy, as well as good resolution for smooth and discontinuous solutions.  相似文献

The calculation of the weight of each substencil is very important for a weighted essentially nonoscillatory (WENO) scheme to obtain high‐order accuracy in smooth regions and keep the essentially nonoscillatory property near discontinuities. The weighting function introduced in the WENO‐Z scheme provides a straightforward method to analyze the accuracy order in smooth regions. In this paper, we construct a new sixth‐order global smoothness indicator (GSI‐6) and a function about GSI‐6 and the local smoothness indicators (ISk) to calculate the weights. The analysis and numerical results show that, with the new weights, the scheme satisfies the sufficient condition for the fifth‐order convergence in smooth regions even at critical points. Meanwhile, it can also maintain low dissipation for discontinuous solutions due to relative large weights assigned to discontinuous substencils.  相似文献

Accurate computations of two‐dimensional turbulent hypersonic shock–shock interactions that arise when single and dual shocks impinge on the bow shock in front of a cylinder are presented. The simulation methods used are a class of lower–upper symmetric‐Gauss–Seidel implicit anti‐diffusive weighted essentially non‐oscillatory (WENO) schemes for solving the compressible Navier–Stokes equations with Spalart–Allmaras one‐equation turbulence model. A numerical flux of WENO scheme with anti‐diffusive flux correction is adopted, which consists of first‐order and high‐order fluxes and allows for a more flexible choice of first‐order dissipative methods. Experimental flow fields of type IV shock–shock interactions with single and dual incident shocks by Wieting are computed. By using the WENO scheme with anti‐diffusive flux corrections, the present solution indicates that good accuracy is maintained and contact discontinuities are sharpened markedly as compared with the original WENO schemes on the same meshes. Computed surface pressure distribution and heat transfer rate are also compared with experimental data and other computational results and good agreement is found. Shock-capturing and broad-bandwidth scale resolutions are two main challenges of compressible turbulent flow simulation. To meet the rigorous requests, a novel fifth-order hybrid scheme based on a uniform hybrid framework is designed. With the help of a continuous weight operator, the new scheme combines an upwind compact scheme for smooth regions and a compact-reconstruction weighted essentially non-oscillatory scheme for discontinuous regions. Numerical analyses and canonical numerical tests confirm that the new scheme has high accuracy, spectral-like resolution property and shock-capturing capability. Besides, the new scheme shows high computational efficiency compared to the related shock-capturing schemes and hybrid ones.

We put forth a dynamic computing framework for scale‐selective adaptation of weighted essential nonoscillatory (WENO) schemes for the simulation of hyperbolic conservation laws exhibiting strong discontinuities. A multilevel wavelet‐based multiresolution procedure, embedded in a conservative finite volume formulation, is used for a twofold purpose. (i) a dynamic grid adaptation of the solution field for redistributing grid points optimally (in some sense) according to the underlying flow structures, and (ii) a dynamic minimization of the in built artificial dissipation of WENO schemes. Taking advantage of the structure detection properties of this multiresolution algorithm, the nonlinear weights of the conventional WENO implementation are selectively modified to ensure lower dissipation in smoother areas. This modification is implemented through a linear transition from the fifth‐order upwind stencil at the coarsest regions of the adaptive grid to a fully nonlinear fifth‐order WENO scheme at areas of high irregularity. Therefore, our computing algorithm consists of a dynamic grid adaptation strategy, a scale‐selective state reconstruction, a conservative flux calculation, and a total variation diminishing Runge‐Kutta scheme for time advancement. Results are presented for canonical examples drawn from the inviscid Burgers, shallow water, Euler, and magnetohydrodynamic equations. Our findings represent a novel direction for providing a scale‐selective dissipation process without a compromise on shock capturing behavior for conservation laws, which would be a strong contender for dynamic implicit large eddy simulation approaches.  相似文献

This work investigates high‐order central compact methods for simulating turbulent supersonic flows that include shock waves. Several different types of previously proposed characteristic filters, including total variation diminishing, monotone upstream‐centered scheme for conservation laws, and weighted essentially non‐oscillatory filters, are investigated in this study. Similar to the traditional shock capturing schemes, these filters can eliminate the numerical instability caused by large gradients in flow fields, but they also improve efficiency compared with classical shock‐capturing schemes. Adding the nonlinear dissipation part of a classical shock‐capturing scheme to a central scheme makes the method suitable for incorporation into any existing central‐based high‐order subsonic code. The amount of numerical dissipation to add is sensed by means of the artificial compression method switch. In order to improve the performance of the characteristic filters, we propose a hybrid approach to minimize the dissipation added by the characteristic filter. Through several numerical experiments (including a shock/density wave interaction, a shock/vortex interaction, and a shock/mixing layer interaction) we show that our hybrid approach works better than the original method, and can be used for future turbulent flow simulations that include shocks. Despite constant progress in the development of upwind schemes, some failings still remain. Quirk recently reported (Quirk JJ. A contribution to the great Riemann solver debate. International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids 1994; 18 : 555–574) that approximate Riemann solvers, which share the exact capture of contact discontinuities, generally suffer from such failings. One of these is the odd–even decoupling that occurs along planar shocks aligned with the mesh. First, a few results on some failings are given, namely the carbuncle phenomenon and the kinked Mach stem. Then, following Quirk's analysis of Roe's scheme, general criteria are derived to predict the odd–even decoupling. This analysis is applied to Roe's scheme (Roe PL, Approximate Riemann solvers, parameters vectors, and difference schemes, Journal of Computational Physics 1981; 43 : 357–372), the Equilibrium Flux Method (Pullin DI, Direct simulation methods for compressible inviscid ideal gas flow, Journal of Computational Physics 1980; 34 : 231–244), the Equilibrium Interface Method (Macrossan MN, Oliver. RI, A kinetic theory solution method for the Navier–Stokes equations, International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids 1993; 17 : 177–193) and the AUSM scheme (Liou MS, Steffen CJ, A new flux splitting scheme, Journal of Computational Physics 1993; 107 : 23–39). Strict stability is shown to be desirable to avoid most of these flaws. Finally, the link between marginal stability and accuracy on shear waves is established. The simple low‐dissipation advection upwind splitting method (SLAU) scheme is a parameter‐free, low‐dissipation upwind scheme that has been applied in a wide range of aerodynamic numerical simulations. In spite of its successful applications, the SLAU scheme could be showing shock instabilities on unstructured grids, as many other contact resolved upwind schemes. Therefore, a hybrid upwind flux scheme is devised for improving the shock stability of SLAU scheme, without compromising on accuracy and low Mach number performance. Numerical flux function of the hybrid scheme is written in a general form, in which only the scalar dissipation term is different from that of the SLAU scheme. The hybrid dissipation term is defined by using a differentiable multidimensional‐shock‐detection pressure weight function, and the dissipation term of SLAU scheme is combined with that of the Van Leer scheme. Furthermore, the hybrid dissipation term is only applied for the solution of momentum fluxes in numerical flux function. Based on the numerical test results, the hybrid scheme is deemed to be a successful improvement on the shock stability of SLAU scheme, without compromising on the efficiency and accuracy. An improved high‐order accurate WENO finite volume method based on unstructured grids for compressible multi‐fluids flow is proposed in this paper. The third‐order accuracy WENO finite volume method based on triangle cell is used to discretize the governing equations. To have higher order of accuracy, the P1 polynomial is reconstructed firstly. After that, the P2 polynomial is reconstructed from the combination of the P1. The reconstructed coefficients are calculated by analytical form of inverse matrix rather than the numerical inversion. This greatly improved the efficiency and the robustness. Four examples are presented to examine this algorithm. Numerical results show that there is no spurious oscillation of velocity and pressure across the interface and high‐order accurate result can be achieved. We present a new reference smoothness indicator for third‐order weighted essentially non‐oscillatory scheme to recover its design‐order convergence at critical points. This reference smoothness indicator, which involves both the candidate and global smoothness indicators in the weighted essentially non‐oscillatory framework, is devised according to a sufficient condition on the weights for third‐order convergence. The recovery of design‐order is verified by standard tests. Meanwhile, numerical results demonstrate that the present reference smoothness indicator produces sharper representation of the discontinuity owing to the combined effects of larger weight assignment to the discontinuous stencils and convergence rate recovery. This paper presents a family of High‐order finite volume schemes applicable on unstructured grids. The k‐exact reconstruction is performed on every control volume as the primary reconstruction. On a cell of interest, besides the primary reconstruction, additional candidate reconstruction polynomials are provided by means of very simple and efficient ‘secondary’ reconstructions. The weighted average procedure of the WENO scheme is then applied to the primary and secondary reconstructions to ensure the shock‐capturing capability of the scheme. This procedure combines the simplicity of the k‐exact reconstruction with the robustness of the WENO schemes and represents a systematic and unified way to construct High‐order accurate shock capturing schemes. To further improve the efficiency, an efficient problem‐independent shock detector is introduced. Several test cases are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and non‐oscillation property of the proposed schemes. The results show that the proposed schemes can predict the smooth solutions with uniformly High‐order accuracy and can capture the shock waves and contact discontinuities in high resolution. Numerical experiments with several variants of the original weighted essentially non‐oscillatory (WENO) schemes (J. Comput. Phys. 1996; 126 :202–228) including anti‐diffusive flux corrections, the mapped WENO scheme, and modified smoothness indicator are tested for the Euler equations. The TVD Runge–Kutta explicit time‐integrating scheme is adopted for unsteady flow computations and lower–upper symmetric‐Gauss–Seidel (LU‐SGS) implicit method is employed for the computation of steady‐state solutions. A numerical flux of the variant WENO scheme in flux limiter form is presented, which consists of first‐order and high‐order fluxes and allows for a more flexible choice of low‐order schemes. Computations of unsteady oblique shock wave diffraction over a wedge and steady transonic flows over NACA 0012 and RAE 2822 airfoils are presented to test and compare the methods. Various aspects of the variant WENO methods including contact discontinuity sharpening and steady‐state convergence rate are examined. By using the WENO scheme with anti‐diffusive flux corrections, the present solutions indicate that good convergence rate can be achieved and high‐order accuracy is maintained and contact discontinuities are sharpened markedly as compared with the original WENO schemes on the same meshes. For two‐phase flow models, upwind schemes are most often difficult do derive, and expensive to use. Centred schemes, on the other hand, are simple, but more dissipative. The recently proposed multi‐stage (MUSTA ) method is aimed at coming close to the accuracy of upwind schemes while retaining the simplicity of centred schemes. So far, the MUSTA approach has been shown to work well for the Euler equations of inviscid, compressible single‐phase flow. In this work, we explore the MUSTA scheme for a more complex system of equations: the drift‐flux model, which describes one‐dimensional two‐phase flow where the motions of the phases are strongly coupled. As the number of stages is increased, the results of the MUSTA scheme approach those of the Roe method. The good results of the MUSTA scheme are dependent on the use of a large‐enough local grid. Hence, the main benefit of the MUSTA scheme is its simplicity, rather than CPU ‐time savings. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
