We present a projection scheme whose end‐of‐step velocity is locally pointwise divergence free, using a continuous ?1 approximation for the velocity in the momentum equation, a first‐order Crouzeix–Raviart approximation at the projection step, and a ?0 approximation for the pressure in both steps. The analysis of the scheme is done only for grids that guarantee the existence of a divergence free conforming ?1 interpolant for the velocity. Optimal estimates for the velocity error in L2‐ and H1‐norms are deduced. The numerical results demonstrate that these estimates should also hold on grids on which the continuous ?1 approximation for the velocity locks. Since the end‐of‐step velocity is locally solenoidal, the scheme is recommendable for problems requiring good mass conservation. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A perturbation solution of the fully developed flow through a pipe of circular cross-section, which rotates uniformly around an axis oriented perpendicularly to its own, is considered. The perturbation parameter is given by R = 2Ωa2/ν in terms of the angular velocity Ω, the pipe radius a and the kinematic viscosity ν of the fluid. The two coupled non-linear equations for the axial velocity ω and the streamfunction ? of the transverse (secondary) flow lead to an infinite system of linear equations. This system allows first the computation of a given order ?n, n ? 1, of the perturbation expansion ? = ∑ Rn?n in terms of ωn-1, the (n-1)-th order of the expansion ω = ∑ Rnωn, and of the lower orders ?1,…,?n ? 1. Then it permits the computation of ωn from ω0,…,ωn ? 1 and ?1,…,?;n. The computation starts from the Hagen–Poiseuille flow ω0, i.e. the perturbation is around this flow. The computations are performed analytically by computer, with the REDUCE and MAPLE systems. The essential elements for this are the appropriate co-ordinates: in the complex co-ordinates chosen the two-dimensional harmonic (Laplace, Δ) and biharmonic (Δ2) operators are ideally suited for (symbolic) quadratures. Symmetry considerations as well as analysis of the equations for ωn, ?n and of the boundary conditions lead to general (polynomial) formulae for these functions, with coeffcients to be determined. Their determination, order by order, implies, in complex co-ordinates, only (symbolic) differentiation and quadratures. The coefficients themselves are polynomials in the Reynolds number c of the (unperturbed) Hagen–Poiseuille flow. A two‐dimensional 19‐velocity (D2Q19) lattice Boltzmann model which satisfies the conservation laws governing the macroscopic and microscopic mass, momentum and energy with local equilibrium distribution order O(u4) rather than the usual O(u3) has been developed. This model is applied to simulate the reflection of shockwaves on the surface of a triangular obstacle. Good qualitative agreement between the numerical predictions and experimental measurements is obtained. As the model contains the higher‐order terms in the local equilibrium distribution, it performs much better in terms of numerical accuracy and stability than the earlier 13‐velocity models with the local equilibrium distribution accurate only up to the second order in the velocity u. A recently developed asymmetric implicit fifth‐order scheme with acoustic upwinding for the spatial discretization for the characteristic waves is applied to the fully compressible, viscous and non‐stationary Navier–Stokes equations for sub‐ and super‐sonic, mildly turbulent, channel flow (Reτ=360). For a Mach number of 0.1, results are presented for uniform (323, 643 and 1283) and non‐uniform (expanding wall‐normal, 323 and 643) grids and compared to the (incompressible) reference solution found in (J. Fluid. Mech. 1987; 177 :133–166). The results for uniform grids on 1283 and 643 nodes show high resemblance with the reference solution. Expanding grids are applied on 643‐ and 323‐node grids. The capability of the proposed technique to solve compressible flow is first demonstrated by increasing the Mach number to 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 for isentropic flow on the uniform 643‐grid. Next, the flow speed is increased to Ma=2. The results for the isothermal‐wall supersonic flows give very good agreement with known literature results. The velocity field, the temperature and their fluctuations are well resolved. This means that in all presented (sub‐ and super‐sonic) cases, the combination of acoustic upwinding and the asymmetric high‐order scheme provides sufficient high wave‐number damping and low wave‐number accuracy to give numerically stable and accurate results. Equations are derived describing the inertial motion of a bubble pair through a perfect liquid. The relative bubble motion is driven by an interactional force induced by the centre of mass motion. This force can be derived from a potential that is proportional tos n (n3) and that depends on the bubble pair orientation. The path of two bubbles passing each other is investigated. The angle of deflection of the relative velocity in a two-bubble encounter is calculated numerically as a function of the impact parameter, the relative velocityg and the ratio of the centre of mass velocity componentsc 2/c 1. The specific conditions necessary for two bubbles to collide are determined. Ifc 2/c 1>1 there is a region with irregular behaviour of the deflection angle. The collision cross-section is calculated and depends smoothly ong, approximately proportional tog –1, and has a weak dependence onc 2/c 1.  相似文献

This paper presents the electromagnetic wave propagation characteristics in plasma and the attenuation coefficients of the microwave in terms of the parameters he, v, w, L, wb. The φ800 mm high temperature shock tube has been used to produce a uniform plasma. In order to get the attenuation of the electromagnetic wave through the plasma behind a shock wave, the microwave transmission has been used to measure the relative change of the wave power. The working frequency is f = (2-35)GHz (ω=2πf, wave length A =15cm-8mm). The electron density in the plasma is ne = (3×10^10-1×10^14) cm^-3. The collision frequency v = (1×10^8-6×10^10) Hz. The thickness of the plasma layer L = (2-80)cm. The electron circular frequency ωb=eBo/me, magnetic flux density B0 = (0-0.84)T. The experimental results show that when the plasma layer is thick (such as L/λ≥10), the correlation between the attenuation coefficients of the electromagnetic waves and the parameters ne,v,ω, L determined from the measurements are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions of electromagnetic wave propagations in the uniform infinite plasma. When the plasma layer is thin (such as when both L and A are of the same order), the theoretical results are only in a qualitative agreement with the experimental observations in the present parameter range, but the formula of the electromagnetic wave propagation theory in an uniform infinite plasma can not be used for quantitative computations of the correlation between the attenuation coefficients and the parameters ne,v,ω, L. In fact, if ω<ωp, v^2<<ω^2, the power attenuations K of the electromagnetic waves obtained from the measurements in the thin-layer plasma are much smaller than those of the theoretical predictions. On the other hand, if ω>ωp, v^2<<ω^2 (just v≈f), the measurements are much larger than the theoretical results. Also, we have measured the electromagnetic wave power attenuation value under the magnetic field and without a magnetic field. The result indicates that the value measured under the magnetic field shows a distinct improvement.  相似文献

The HyFlux2 model has been developed to simulate severe inundation scenario due to dam break, flash flood and tsunami‐wave run‐up. The model solves the conservative form of the two‐dimensional shallow water equations using the finite volume method. The interface flux is computed by a Flux Vector Splitting method for shallow water equations based on a Godunov‐type approach. A second‐order scheme is applied to the water surface level and velocity, providing results with high accuracy and assuring the balance between fluxes and sources also for complex bathymetry and topography. Physical models are included to deal with bottom steps and shorelines. The second‐order scheme together with the shoreline‐tracking method and the implicit source term treatment makes the model well balanced in respect to mass and momentum conservation laws, providing reliable and robust results. The developed model is validated in this paper with a 2D numerical test case and with the Okushiri tsunami run up problem. It is shown that the HyFlux2 model is able to model inundation problems, with a satisfactory prediction of the major flow characteristics such as water depth, water velocity, flood extent, and flood‐wave arrival time. The analysis of laminar mixed convection in boundary layers adjacent to a vertical, continuously stretching sheet has been presented. The velocity and temperature of the sheet were assumed to vary in a power-law form, that is, u w (x)=Bx m and T w (x)−T =Ax n . In the presence of buoyancy force effects, similarity solutions were reported for the following two cases: (a) n=0 and m=0.5, which corresponds to an isothermal sheet moving with a velocity of the form u w =Bx 0.5 and (b) n=1 and m=1, which corresponds to a continuous, linearly stretching sheet with a linear surface temperature distribution, i.e. T w T =Ax. Formulation of the present problem shows that the heat transfer characteristics depends on four governing parameters, namely, the velocity exponent parameter m, the temperature exponent parameter n, the buoyancy force parameter G *, and Prandtl number of the fluid. Numerical solutions were generated from a finite difference method. Results for the local Nusselt number, the local friction coefficient, and temperature profiles are presented for different governing parameters. Effects of buoyancy force and Prandtl number on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are thoroughly examined. Received on 17 July 1997  相似文献

The stability of shock wave based on the definition of Landau and Lifschitz[1] is treated in this paper. This is tantamount to solving the problem of interaction of small disturbances with a shock wave. Small disturbances are introduced on both sides of a steady, non-dissipative, plane shock wave. Landau et al.[1] obtained the stability criterionM 1>1,M 2<1 for small disturbances which are travelling in the direction perpendicular to the shock wave. In the present paper, we assume that the small disturbances may be two dimensional, i.e. they may be propagating in the direction inclined to the shock wave. The conclusions obtained are: regardless of whether the incident wave and diverging wave are defined according to the direction of the phase velocity or the group velocity, the shock wave is unstable for some frequencies and longitudinal wave lengths of the disturbances, even if the conditionsM 1>1,M 2<1 are fulfilled. Then several experiments are proposed, and the problem of ways to define the incident wave and diverging wave is discussed. The meaning of this problem is illustrated. The same results can be obtained for the steady shock wave in a tube.  相似文献

 An numerical study of the flow and heat transfer characteristics associated with a heated, continuously stretching surface being cooled by a mixed convection flow has been carried out. The relevant heat transfer mechanisms are of interest in a wide variety of practical applications, such as hot rolling, continuous casting, extrusion, and drawing. The surface velocity of the continuously stretching sheet was assumed to vary according to a power-law form, that is, u w (x)=Cx p . Two conditions of surface heating were considered, a variable wall temperature (VWT) in the form T w (x)−T =Ax n and a variable surface heat flux (VHF) in the form q w (x)=Bx m . The governing differential equations are transformed by introducing proper nonsimilarity variables and solved numerically using a procedure based on finite difference approximations. Results for the local Nusselt number and the local friction coefficient are obtained for a wide range of governing parameters, such as the surface velocity parameter p, the wall temperature exponent n, the surface heat flux exponent m, the buoyancy force parameters (ξ for the VWT case and χ for the VHF case), and Prandtl number of the fluid. It is found that the local Nusselt number is increased with increasing the velocity exponent parameter p for the VWT case, while the opposite trend is observed for the VHF case. The local friction coefficient is increased for a decelerated stretching surface, while it is decreased for an accelerated stretching surface. Also, appreciable effects of the buoyancy force on the local Nusselt number and the local friction coefficient are observed for both VWT and VHF cases, as expected. Non-Newtonian fluid flow through porous media is of considerable interest in several fields, ranging from environmental sciences to chemical and petroleum engineering. In this article, we consider an infinite porous domain of uniform permeability k and porosity f{\phi} , saturated by a weakly compressible non-Newtonian fluid, and analyze the dynamics of the pressure variation generated within the domain by an instantaneous mass injection in its origin. The pressure is taken initially to be constant in the porous domain. The fluid is described by a rheological power-law model of given consistency index H and flow behavior index n; n, < 1 describes shear-thinning behavior, n > 1 shear-thickening behavior; for n = 1, the Newtonian case is recovered. The law of motion for the fluid is a modified Darcy’s law based on the effective viscosity μ ef , in turn a function of f, H, n{\phi, H, n} . Coupling the flow law with the mass balance equation yields the nonlinear partial differential equation governing the pressure field; an analytical solution is then derived as a function of a self-similar variable ηrt β (the exponent β being a suitable function of n), combining spatial coordinate r and time t. We revisit and expand the work in previous papers by providing a dimensionless general formulation and solution to the problem depending on a geometrical parameter d, valid for plane (d = 1), cylindrical (d = 2), and semi-spherical (d = 3) geometry. When a shear-thinning fluid is considered, the analytical solution exhibits traveling wave characteristics, in variance with Newtonian fluids; the front velocity is proportional to t (n-2)/2 in plane geometry, t (2n-3)/(3−n) in cylindrical geometry, and t (3n-4)/[2(2−n)] in semi-spherical geometry. To reflect the uncertainty inherent in the value of the problem parameters, we consider selected properties of fluid and matrix as independent random variables with an associated probability distribution. The influence of the uncertain parameters on the front position and the pressure field is investigated via a global sensitivity analysis evaluating the associated Sobol’ indices. The analysis reveals that compressibility coefficient and flow behavior index are the most influential variables affecting the front position; when the excess pressure is considered, compressibility and permeability coefficients contribute most to the total response variance. For both output variables the influence of the uncertainty in the porosity is decidedly lower.  相似文献

The flow structure and isotherms of hard disk drives (HDD) are investigated using a finite element method (FEM). The governing equations are based on the three‐dimensional axisymmetric Navier–Stokes partial differential equations (PDEs) with Galerkin FE formulation. Co‐rotating models are selected that include the non‐ventilated configuration within an enclosure. With various operating conditions for the disk system, the following important parameters are considered: disk number (n), rotational speed (Ro), and wall temperature. The flow structure changes rapidly when the rotational Reynolds number (Reϕ) is increased. The flow has a greater tendency to flow radially outwards and the swirling velocity tends to be more vertically orientated, especially for high Reϕ values. The isotherms only have small varying regions near the rotating axis, forming outward arcs near the wall and inward arcs near the end gap of the disk. Different from the case without the enclosure, the vorticities exist along the outer disk ends. Both the swirling velocity and isotherms indicate nearly symmetrical characteristics, as expected. A higher temperature gradient occurs near the right outer disk ends, which implies the characteristic of higher heat flux. In this paper, the temporal development of small disturbances in a pressure‐driven fluid flow through a channel filled with a saturated porous medium is investigated. The Brinkman flow model is employed in order to obtain the basic flow velocity distribution. Under normal mode assumption, the linearized governing equations for disturbances yield a fourth‐order eigenvalue problem, which reduces to the well‐known Orr–Sommerfeld equation in some limiting cases solved numerically by a spectral collocation technique with expansions in Chebyshev polynomials. The critical Reynolds number Rec, the critical wave number αc, and the critical wave speed cc are obtained for a wide range of the porous medium shape factor parameter S. This paper presents two‐dimensional and unsteady RANS computations of time dependent, periodic, turbulent flow around a square block. Two turbulence models are used: the Launder–Sharma low‐Reynolds number k–ε model and a non‐linear extension sensitive to the anisotropy of turbulence. The Reynolds number based on the free stream velocity and obstacle side is Re=2.2×104. The present numerical results have been obtained using a finite volume code that solves the governing equations in a vertical plane, located at the lateral mid‐point of the channel. The pressure field is obtained with the SIMPLE algorithm. A bounded version of the third‐order QUICK scheme is used for the convective terms. Comparisons of the numerical results with the experimental data indicate that a preliminary steady solution of the governing equations using the linear k–ε does not lead to correct flow field predictions in the wake region downstream of the square cylinder. Consequently, the time derivatives of dependent variables are included in the transport equations and are discretized using the second‐order Crank–Nicolson scheme. The unsteady computations using the linear and non‐linear k–ε models significantly improve the velocity field predictions. However, the linear k–ε shows a number of predictive deficiencies, even in unsteady flow computations, especially in the prediction of the turbulence field. The introduction of a non‐linear k–ε model brings the two‐dimensional unsteady predictions of the time‐averaged velocity and turbulence fields and also the predicted values of the global parameters such as the Strouhal number and the drag coefficient to close agreement with the data. We present in this paper various iterative methods for the solution of large linear and non‐linear systems resulting from the discretization of the generalized Stokes problem. A second‐order (O(h2)) P2‐P1 mixed finite element is used for the approximation of the velocity and the pressure. Solution strategies based on conjugate gradient‐like methods, the Uzawa's and Arrow–Hurwicz's methods are presented. Schur complement methods are also explored in the context of a hierarchical decomposition of the velocity field. The ever present preconditioning problem is also addressed. M = 2.25 shock‐wave/turbulent‐boundary‐layer interactions over a compression ramp for several angles (8, 13 and 18°) at Reynolds‐number Re=7 × 103 were simulated with three low‐Reynolds second‐moment closures and a linear low‐Reynolds standard k–ε model. A detailed assessment of the turbulence closures by comparison with both mean‐flow and turbulent experimental quantities is presented. The Reynolds‐stress model which is wall‐topology free and which uses an optimized redistribution closure, is in good agreement with experimental data both for wall‐pressure and mean‐velocity profiles. Detailed analysis of three components of the Reynolds‐stress tensor (comparison with measurements and transport‐equation budgets) provides a critical evaluation of full Reynolds‐stress models for the separated supersonic compression ramp. The discrepancy observed in the shock‐wave foot region, between computations and measurements for the Reynolds‐stresses profiles, could be explained by considering the experimental shock‐wave oscillation and directions for future modelling work are indicated. A unified perturbation theory is developed here for calculating solitary waves of all heights by series expansion of base flow variables in powers of a small base parameter to eighteenth order for the one-parameter family of solutions in exact form, with all the coefficients determined in rational numbers. Comparative studies are pursued to investigate the effects due to changes of base parameters on (i) the accuracy of the theoretically predicted wave properties and (ii) the rate of convergence of perturbation expansion. Two important results are found by comparisons between the theoretical predictions based on a set of parameters separately adopted for expansion in turn. First, the accuracy and the convergence of the perturbation expansions, appraised versus the exact solution provided by an earlier paper [1] as the standard reference, are found to depend, quite sensitively, on changes in base parameter. The resulting variations in the solution are physically displayed in various wave properties with differences found dependent on which property (e.g. the wave amplitude, speed, its profile, excess mass, momentum, and energy), on what range in value of the base, and on the rank of the order n in the expansion being addressed. Secondly, regarding convergence, the present perturbation series is found definitely asymptotic in nature, with the relative error δ(n) (the relative mean-square difference between successive orders n of wave elevations) reaching a minimum, δ m , at a specific order, n=n m , both depending on the base adopted, e.g. n m , α =11-12 based on parameter α (wave amplitude), n m , β =15 on β (amplitude-speed square ratio), and n m , =17 on ( wave number squared). The asymptotic range is brought to completion by the highest order of n=18 reached in this work. Two‐level low‐order finite element approximations are considered for the inhomogeneous Stokes equations. The elements introduced are attractive because of their simplicity and computational efficiency. In this paper, the stability of a Q1(h)–Q1(2h) approximation is analysed for general geometries. Using the macroelement technique, we prove the stability condition for both two‐ and three‐dimensional problems. As a result, optimal rates of convergence are found for the velocity and pressure approximations. Numerical results for three test problems are presented. We observe that for the computed examples, the accuracy of the two‐level bilinear approximation is compared favourably with some standard finite elements. In this paper, we present a new family of direct arbitrary–Lagrangian–Eulerian (ALE) finite volume schemes for the solution of hyperbolic balance laws on unstructured meshes in multiple space dimensions. The scheme is designed to be high‐order accurate both in space and time, and the mesh motion, which provides the new mesh configuration at the next time step, is taken into account in the final finite volume scheme that is based directly on a space‐time conservation formulation of the governing PDE system. To improve the computational efficiency of the algorithm, high order of accuracy in space is achieved using the a posteriori MOOD limiting strategy that allows the reconstruction procedure to be carried out with only one reconstruction stencil for any order of accuracy. We rely on an element‐local space‐time Galerkin finite element predictor on moving curved meshes to obtain a high‐order accurate one‐step time discretization, while the mesh velocity is computed by means of a suitable nodal solver algorithm that might also be supplemented with a local rezoning procedure to improve the mesh quality. Next, the old mesh configuration at time level tn is connected to the new one at tn + 1 by straight edges, hence providing unstructured space‐time control volumes, on the boundary of which the numerical flux has to be integrated. Here, we adopt a quadrature‐free integration, in which the space‐time boundaries of the control volumes are split into simplex sub‐elements that yield constant space‐time normal vectors and Jacobian matrices. In this way, the integrals over the simplex sub‐elements can be evaluated once and for all analytically during a preprocessing step. We apply the new high‐order direct ALE algorithm to the Euler equations of compressible gas dynamics (also referred to as hydrodynamics equations) as well as to the magnetohydrodynamics equations and we solve a set of classical test problems in two and three space dimensions. Numerical convergence rates are provided up to fifth order of accuracy in 2D and 3D for both hyperbolic systems considered in this paper. Finally, the efficiency of the new method is measured and carefully compared against the original formulation of the algorithm that makes use of a WENO reconstruction technique and Gaussian quadrature formulae for the flux integration: depending on the test problem, the new class of very efficient direct ALE schemes proposed in this paper can run up to ≈12 times faster in the 3D case. We present a nodal Godunov method for Lagrangian shock hydrodynamics. The method is designed to operate on three‐dimensional unstructured grids composed of tetrahedral cells. A node‐centered finite element formulation avoids mesh stiffness, and an approximate Riemann solver in the fluid reference frame ensures a stable, upwind formulation. This choice leads to a non‐zero mass flux between control volumes, even though the mesh moves at the fluid velocity, but eliminates volume errors that arise due to the difference between the fluid velocity and the contact wave speed. A monotone piecewise linear reconstruction of primitive variables is used to compute interface unknowns and recover second‐order accuracy. The scheme has been tested on a variety of standard test problems and exhibits first‐order accuracy on shock problems and second‐order accuracy on smooth flows using meshes of up to O(106) tetrahedra.
