Let k and d be fixed integers, 0kd, and let be a collection of sets in If every countable subfamily of has a starshaped intersection, then is (nonempty and) starshaped as well. Moreover, if every countable subfamily of has as its intersection a starshaped set whose kernel is at least k-dimensional, then the kernel of is at least k-dimensional, too. Finally, dual statements hold for unions of sets.Received: 3 April 2004  相似文献

In this paper we consider the magnetic Couette-Taylor problem, that is, a conducting fluid between two infinite rotating cylinders, subject to a magnetic field parallel to the rotation axis. This configuration admits an equilibrium solution of the form It is shown that this equilibrium is Ljapounov stable under small perturbations in where provided that the parameters a, b, , are small. The methods of proof are a combination of an energy method, based on Bloch space analysis and small data techniques.Received: February 5, 2003; revised: September 29, 2003Dedicated to Prof. H. We study the application, , where is the supremum of positive s such that the problem admits a solution. Where B 1 is the unit ball in We show that is a decreasing function, with where is the unique solution of the problem . We also give the explicit solutions of the problem , when and show that . We show that the problem doesnt admit a solution. In the end, we give a numerical approximation of , when .  相似文献

In this note we prove the uniqueness of U in a group G with a spherical split-BN-pair of rank ,i.e., if G has such a BN-pair with a nilpotent normal subgroup of B, and , then and is a normal subgroup of G. Here is the corresponding group of Lie-type and the subgroup of generated by all root-subgroups corresponding to positive roots. Received: 19 May 2003  相似文献

Let X be a smooth complex projective variety and let be a smooth submanifold of dimension , which is the zero locus of a section of an ample vector bundle of rank on X. Let H be an ample line bundle on X, whose restriction HZ to Z is generated by global sections. Triplets as above are classified under the assumption that is a polarized manifold of sectional genus 2. This can be regarded as a step towards the classification of ample vector bundles of corank one and curve genus two. Received: 6 June 2003  相似文献

The solutions of the equation in , where are investigated, Bessel potentials of higher order are defined, and recurrence relations between these solutions and these Bessel potentials are obtained. It is also proved that these solutions and the solutions of , under certain conditions, are identical. Received: 6 November 2002  相似文献

Let be the Hecke algebra of the symmetric group over a field K of characteristic and a primitive -th root of one in K. We show that an -module is projective if and only if its restrictions to any -parabolic subalgebra of is projective. Moreover, we give a new construction of blocks of -parabolic subalgebras, in terms of skew group algebras over local commutative algebras. Received: 30 June 2003  相似文献

Let be a C*-algebra and X a Hilbert C* -module. If is a projection, let be the p-sphere of X. For φ a state of with support p in and consider the modular vector state φx of given by The spheres provide fibrations
and
These fibrations enable us to examine the homotopy type of the sets of modular vector states, and relate it to the homotopy type of unitary groups and spaces of projections. We regard modular vector states as generalizations of pure states to the context of Hilbert C*-modules, and the above fibrations as generalizations of the projective fibration of a Hilbert space.  相似文献

For a set of integers , we define a q-ary -cycle to be an assignment of the symbols 1 through q to the integers modulo q n so that every word appears on some translate of . This definition generalizes that of de Bruijn cycles, and opens up a multitude of questions. We address the existence of such cycles, discuss reduced cycles (ones in which the all-zeroes string need not appear), and provide general bounds on the shortest sequence which contains all words on some translate of . We also prove a variant on recent results concerning decompositions of complete graphs into cycles and employ it to resolve the case of completely.AMS Subject Classification: 94A55, 05C70.  相似文献

Let be a group of affine transformations of the Euclidean plane . Two topological discs D, are called congruent by dissection with respect to if D can be dissected into a finite number of subdiscs that can be rearranged by maps from to a dissection of E. Our main result says in particular that admits congruence by dissection of any circular disc C with any square S if and only if contains a contractive map and all orbits , , are dense in . In this case any two discs D and E are congruent by dissection with respect to and every disc D is congruent by dissection with n copies of D for every n ≥ 2. Moreover, we give estimates on minimal numbers of pieces that are needed to realize congruences by dissection. Dedicated to Irmtraud Stephani on the occasion of her 70th birthday  相似文献

Let be a continuous semimartingale and let be a continuous function of bounded variation. Setting and suppose that a continuous function is given such that F is C1,2 on and F is on . Then the following change-of-variable formula holds: where is the local time of X at the curve b given by and refers to the integration with respect to . A version of the same formula derived for an Itô diffusion X under weaker conditions on F has found applications in free-boundary problems of optimal stopping.  相似文献

When G is a finite nonabelian group, we associate the common-divisor graph (G) with G by letting nontrivial degrees in cd(G) be the vertices and making distinct vertices adjacent if they have a common nontrivial divisor. A set of vertices for this graph is said to be strongly connective for cd(G) if there is some prime which divides every member of and every vertex outside of is adjacent to some member of When G has a nonabelian solvable quotient, we show that if (G) is connected and has a diameter of at most 2, then indeed cd(G) has a strongly connective subset.Received: 7 July 2004; revised: 5 October 2004  相似文献

Let G be a finite group, a normal subgroup, p a prime, a finite splitting field of characteristic p for G and We prove that is a splitting field for N, using the action of the Galois group of the field extension on the irreducible representations of N. As is a splitting field for the symmetric group Sn we get as a corollary that is a splitting field for the alternating group An. Received: 31 July 2003  相似文献

To every egglike inversive plane there is associated a family of involutions of the point set of such that circles of are the fixed point sets of the involutions in . Korchmaros and Olanda characterized a family of involutions on a set of size n2 + 1to be for an egglike inversive plane of order n by four conditions. In this paper, we give an alternative proof where the Galois space PG(3,n) in which is embedded is built up directly by using concepts and results on finite linear spaces.  相似文献

It is well known that a permutation group of degree can be generated by elements. In this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of the probability of generating a permutation group of degree n with elements. In particular we prove that if n is large enough and elements generate a permutation group G of degree n modulo G G 2, then almost certainly these elements generate G itself. We study a variational problem arising from a generalization of an economic model introduced by Rochet and Choné in [5]. In this model a monopolist proposes a set Y of products with price list . Each rational consumer chooses which product to buy by solving a personal minimum problem, taking into account his/her tastes and economic possibilities. The monopolist looks for the optimal price list which minimizes costs, hence maximizes the profit. This leads to a minimum problem for functionals (the “pessimistic cost expectation”) and (the “optimistic cost expectation”), which are in turn defined through two nested variational problems. We prove that the minimum of exists and coincides with the infimum of . We also provide a variational approximation of by smooth functionals defined in finite dimensional Euclidean spaces.Received: 2 March 2004, Accepted: 19 October 2004, Published online: 22 December 2004Mathematics Subject Classification (2000): 49J45, 91B  相似文献
